Elliot Parker has one rule in his college stay small, stay quiet, and never cause trouble.
He always sits in the back row, always takes the extra tasks his classmates “accidentally” dump on him, and always says yes—even when his hands are shaking. In the group chat, he’s the one they rely on, the one they tease, the one who picks up all the slack because “you’re so good at it, Elliot.”
Logan Hayes has a different kind of reputation.
Everyone knows he used to get into fights. Everyone knows he’s scary when he’s angry. No one knows about the promise he made after a brutal high school brawl—that he would never use his fists again, no matter how badly someone deserved it.
When their professor assigns the final capstone project, Elliot is shocked to be paired with Logan, the “dangerous guy” everyone whispers about. Elliot expects trouble. Instead, he gets someone who quietly watches, quietly notices… and quietly refuses to look away when the “jokes” in the group chat go too far.
As late-night library sessions and emergency runs to the nurse’s office bring them closer, Logan sees how much Elliot has learned to shrink himself just to survive. Elliot sees that behind Logan’s scary reputation is someone terrified of becoming a monster again.
Between unfair workloads, subtle bullying, and a setup designed to make Logan snap on camera, the two of them are forced to ask what real strength looks - Is it taking all the hits in silence? - Is it throwing the first punch? - Or is it learning to say “no,” “that’s not okay,” and “please don’t get hurt for me”?
Kiss at the End of the Semester is a slow-burn, college-set boys love (MM) romance - no explicit sexual content - a protective “reformed fighter” who is clueless about his own jealousy - a gentle, anxious boy who finds his voice - library scenes, balcony escapes, and an end-of-term party with a planned exit strategy - a soft, careful first kiss under the winter sky - a guaranteed happy ending
If you like quiet courage, emotionally safe relationships, and BL stories where the most intimate thing is being truly seen and chosen, this novel is for you.
This truly was one of the longest slow burns, but finally getting to read their kiss was so worth it. Watching both main characters navigate through their own traumas and constantly dancing around how they really felt and then finally coming to their conclusion made it feel like I could finally let go of a breath I didn’t realize I was holding. There is a bit of repetition with the way the characters speak to each other and handle situations, making it feel a bit extra sometimes, but overall it was a pleasant read, with well written characters.
