After reading the first book, I was very hopeful that there was going to be some big steps forward in this one. The plot definitely moved forward, and continues to be compelling. But it does feel like Struble writing from the perspective of a teenage girl leaves behind his relatability to the main character that made the first one feel so personal.
I still enjoyed the book, and I will still read the third one. Middle books are difficult to write and this one felt like it struggled with where it wanted to go and what it wanted to put front and center.
This book has enough action, heart, intrigue, and humor to be a quick read even if had been a 800 page epic tome. It was hard to put down and it's even harder to wait for the next installment!
