This was just okay. I liked the previous book I read from this author (Blood and Snow) a little bit better. I've been on a Christmas streak but I read the synopsis for this it sounded right up my alley so I decided to give it a whirl.

Yuri is the MMC and Inessa is the FMC. Inessa is set to marry Yuri's son (Dominic) in an arranged marriage. However, just days before the wedding Dominic and Inessa's father are attacked and killed. Yuri decides he will marry Inessa in his son's place despite her lack of cooperation.

I was frustrated with Yuri some throughout the book. He was supposed to be the Pahkan but the underlings in his family were always trying to tell him what to do and give him ultimatums. A rival business/mafia organization/Inessa's mother were viciously attacking Inessa's business and he was not proactive enough in combatting the attacks, imo.

This is a fast burn. The wedding night takes place at 28% in. A lot of hate-fucking going on in the beginning of the book. Inessa fights Yuri on everything but has major BBS for him so she never actually fights him on the spicy times - just everything else in their lives.

No OW/OM drama really. Yuri has a dead wife but it's not a major part of the book. Inessa was never romantically involved with his son, Dominic. No cheating.

I was excited to read this whern I read the blurb but so far I'm kind of disappointed. Some spoilers ... I think it's gross that he forced his son's fiance to marry him days after his son and her father were murdered under the guise of protecting her and her business. Yet all three of her warehouses were burned down, he didn't do much protecting. The sex scenes wouldn't have been so bad if the author had made it clear that the heroin and his son hadn't had sex. It also frustrates the hell out of me that she supposedly hates him that yet she has sex with him way too soon all these books start that way. I hate and despise him. Quotes, I hate him and disgusted by him but I yet melt against him it fills me with shame. I wish an author could come up with a strong heroin that didn't act like a cat in heat that can't control their body makes all the resistance seem uncredible. I wish an author would write something original a heroin with some morals and backbone would be nice. I it wasn't a bad read but it certainly could have been better.

It was definitely a professional execution which means no witnesses willing to come forward. It was not a random violence or deal gone wrong. This was a message written in blood. Inessa mom Viktoria, the monster had walk away from her life eleven years ago. And with Semyon gone she'll be swooping in like a vulture. Yuri informed her that the death of dad means his protection is gone and that leaves her vulnerable and her mom could come back and contest her father's will.
Semyon and Yuri had been business partners for years laundering money through Inessa design company . Not wanting to lose alliance plus her company still needed protection and he still needed legitimate business to process transactions he proposed that they get married to keep some of the partnership going. Inessa was disgusted with Yuri proposition and by that she would never marry him. But Yuri will do anything to get her down that aisle even if it's at gunpoint. The Kozlov family one of enemy was mobilizing calling in debts and consolidating resources immediately after Semyon death. His brother Dimitri who resented him inheriting the family empire since their father's death was also circling since his heir died. Now the marriage wasn't about honoring contracts anymore. It's business was about survival of his bloodline and empire.
He forced her down the aisle at gunpoint and as an act of rebellion she went in her blood soak gown. The two started their relationship with rebellion, possessiveness, power and control, defiance a constant push and pull which always leads up to a punishing fuck. The Kozlov family killed Dominic because of an arms deal that when bad. They've always wanted to do business with the Gravitch's which Yuri always denied. Inessa as become a target with Kozlov continously blowing up warehouses destroying her complete spring collection. He knows that the only way to get to Yuri is through Inessa. And Yuri will kill anyone who tries to her. Her mom is back in town and claims that she wants save her from her controlling husband who have isolated her from her business and friends and threaten to get the marriage annulled and secretly planning on a hostile takeover the company and all Semyon businesses.
She will lie and scheme pulling every stunt under sun to get what she wants without regards to her daughter. Inessa was already strong, fierce, smart, and fiery and Yuri will teach her how to stronger standing by her side and taking control of her life and raise as a true queen in his world just like he knew that she was. And while on this path she learnt to realized who have her best interest at heart and who she could trust. Their relationship went from a business arrangement and fell in love along the way. Will Yuri be able to defeat all his enemies? And will be able stop the bleeding and prevent an impending war? Will Inessa see her mother for who she really is? Will Yuri get rid of Viktoria once and for all? Will they get their HEA? Will Inessa get pregnant and Yuri get the heir that he want?

This is my first book from the author. While the story was good. The action was good. I really did love our MMC even tho he has his flaws. And did many mistakes. But the FMC I did not like at all. She took the stars away from this story. I would’ve given it 5 stars if it wasn’t for her. So they will be some SPOILERS here…..
when she spit in the MMC face was disgustingly mind, distasteful, and showed what she was about from the beginning. I lost respect for the character after that. She was extremely immature. She wasn’t seeing the bigger picture at all she just tantrums. Over and over. Kept saying she didn’t care if she died. They she rather be dead. SMH. Since the beginning she kept saying how she wanted to call her mom. Why?! She left years ago. Didn’t look for you at all but now that she can get money all of a sudden she is back. And you didn’t stop to think why? Very childish and immature. Then in 2 months she becomes a bada**. Like yea right. That wasn’t believable. No way! All of a sudden she was a leader. Strong when that was far from the truth. She was extremely childish, immature, weak, and disrespectful. I didn’t like at all. Which it would’ve been a better FMC so I could’ve really enjoyed this book

Suddenly Inessa finds herself no longer being in control of her business, her grief nor who she can trust. In fact, her mother decides to return after 11 years of no contact, and she wants to rekindle their relationship. But does she really? Why now?

This story is a real captivating one, that I just couldn’t put down. I read it in 2 days. I wasn’t sure how the book would end, since there were so many twists and turns. I won’t spoil it for you, but I will say Inessa suddenly becomes much older and wiser than her years on Earth.

I'm all for a sassy FMC but this was just beyond dumb.

1. So no love lost when her arranged marriage fiance dies since she didn't know him and it was going to save her stupid dress shop. So WTF is she angry that his dad steps in to take the son's place. She doesn't object to his age. She's just being rude + angry for literally no reason.

2. Plus, she complains to her bestie that she MUST marry the dad to keep her dress shop open. Clearly, this shop makes no money on its own. So why in the ever loving hell does she suddenly NOT want to get married at the last minute. It made no sense how she's like "I hate you" "I don't want to marry you" but she literally was just saying that was her only choice and she had to right before that.

3. No sparks. There is zero chemistry between these. I think you're supposed to believe that all of the bratty, childish "I hate you" statements are fueling the passion but they just aren't.

4. So the book is basically: "I hate you & I won't eat b/c I'm 10 yo and that's how I pout" to mind-blowing angry sex and then rinse and repeat for the entire book.

SKIP THIS BOOK.

Inessa is a young and ambitious fashion designer who has agreed to an arranged marriage her father has organised in order to take her fashion empire to the next level. She loses her father and fiancé the night before the wedding, right in front of her eyes, and the business she has put everything into suddenly comes under threat. Yuri offers his protection by honouring the partnership deal and marrying her in the place of his son. She is resistant to the idea initially and is married under duress, but there is a strong underlying attraction between them right from the start.

I enjoyed watching their relationship build, Inessa is somewhat naive to the ways of the criminal world her father operated in and grows into her role, Yuri is the perfect possessive but protective alpha. The story is well written, I liked the characters and thought they were developed nicely, and the plot kept me turning the pages and guessing at who was orchestrating everything.

I liked the MCs but it did felt like they started loving each other out of nowhere. One day she hated him and the next not so much ? But character-wise, I liked that the FMC wasn’t a pushover and had her own dreams and goals, regardless of her husband. And the fact that the MMC truly cared about the FMC happiness and wellbeing, even when they just started to know each other.

Plot wise it was interesting, but the timeline did felt kinda messy. Sometimes alluding to the fact that they’ve been married for weeks, and then not even a few sentences after that we’re told that they’ve been married for months?

A few inconsistencies that made the story less enjoyable, but overall it was a good story.

omgeeeee i couldn't put this one down. if you dont have time to just sit and couch rot then dont pick this one up because i did not move from my spot until i finished this book. inessa preparing for her marriage to Dominic finds that the day before her wedding both her fiancé and father are killed. Dominic's father needing the marriage between the two families forces inessa to marry him. she was appalled that he was even suggesting it. first off he was her now dead fiancés father and second he was twice her age. with no choice but to surrender they wed. she goes into it fighting everything but as time passes she finds herself feeling towards him and when people start conspiring against them they become stronger together. this book had me sucked in from the beginning and i look forward to the next one in the series.

I really enjoyed this book, the story had me on the edge of my seat at times, and anxious of what was going to happen next.
I disliked him and the start of the book but he grew on me, she annoyed me a little at the start, she hates him but her body still wants him, never could quite understand that, i was screaming at her to pull herself together and not have sex with him, but in the end it adds to the story.
The twists and turns were interesting and held my interest all the way through, and I loved how strong she was at the end.

I enjoyed this story about a Bratva Pakhan who forces the young woman who was to marry his murdered son to marry him.
Yuri Gravitch is 44, Inessa Mirova is 23. Her fiance and her father are murdered as the book begins. She is forced, at gunpoint, to marry Yuri for business purposes.
She initially hates him but they grow into a powerful couple.
I highly recommend this book.

Yuri and Inessa were interesting. I am all about age gap, ex's father tropes. This one was a bit odd because Yuri doesn't really deal with or address his sons death other than to say his son had spoken out of turn and made mistakes. For Yuri being the big bad head of the Bratva, Inessa's mom had him by the balls. That being said, the spice was good, we get a lot of tender moments, and a little bit of banter. Decent read.

Would I recommend this to a fiend? Yes
