This is an edge of your seat thriller that kept me glued from beginning to end. The story follows the life and journey of the books main character Lance. I felt that the mystery flowed well to the very end. I enjoyed it so much, that I now look forward to my next Lyle Howard book! I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good sci-fi, mystery crime thriller with highly developed characters.

Mr. Sandman by Lyle Howard is a very well put together thriller…It has an interesting plot, fast storytelling and masterfully created characters and surroundings…

Meet Lance Cutter…the main character. Lance was from out of a horrific experiment by a deranged scientist. His death is fakes at birth though, so Lance and his mother live a quiet, normal life. But what is normal for others is not so for Lance. He is faster, smarter and more agile than other children and when Lance and his mother go to Washington looking for answers things start turning deadly…

Barely escaping government agents, the plane they got on crashes into the icy Potomac river. For the second time in his life Lance is presumed dead and he start his life all over as an arson investigator in Florida…What was supposed to be a peaceful living, turns yet again in deadly when innocent people begin to spontaneously combust and Lance must use all of his extraordinary abilities to catch the killer…

This is a must read book. It is military style with a twist of suspense and adventure. It has kept me on the edge trying to find what will happen next with the main character. Great book, I am loving every chapter. The main character Lance is very unique and I cant wait to see what happens next with it.

A bouncy read

I liked the original plot, but it bounced around so much that I had a hard time remembering what the original plot was about.

Mr Howard certainly spins a different yarn. I enjoyed Terminal Justice but this book seemed a little, I don't know, childish?

A secret government research facility seems to be trying to produce superior soldier material through genetic experimentation. This results in one Lance Cutter who is a little stronger, faster and has keener senses than a normal human. Oh yeah, he also has weird red eyes. On the day of his birth the lab is destroyed and everyone is killed - except for baby Lance and his mother. She sets out to protect him from scrutiny and all is well until he is 17 years old. Lance's mother takes them to Washington to try and get answers about Lance's strange physiology. The trip results in tragedy and Lance apparently dies.

Ten years after that we find him working as a fire investigator in Florida. He investigates and solves a bizarre series of killings where people seem to have spontaneously combusted. Unfortunately the media took an interest and a photo of Lance in the paper brings him to the attention of covert government bodies again. And so the chase is on.

It was a totally bizarro story but entertaining nevertheless. What spoiled my enjoyment was the consistently corny dialogue. It just didn't ring true.

I enjoyed this story very much indeed. Just enough Sci-Fi to make it interesting, and intriguing as well.

A story about a man who is "different" from ordinary people, but more like ordinary people than not. He was the result of an experimental breeding program, in an attempt to make a "better," more advanced Soldier. Of course, we all know playing around with Nature is never a smart thing to do.

Very well written, with wonderful characters that you can easily relate to and enjoy, and best of all, this was a "stand alone" story. Of course, the author could, if he wanted, write more stories about this main character, but it isn't necessary. I was quite happy with the way it ended, personally. I think most readers will enjoy it quite nicely.

Couldn't finish this. started ok, but didn't get to the scifi part quick enough, too long in building the character & story of Lance. If I wanted to read the story of a talented Aaron investigator, I would have got a book on that. I wanted to read the book about the human/lizard hybrid. It took too long to get there.

Well I started this book in March and read 4 other books at the same time. Took a while to get into it. Story premise bounced around too many story lines in my opinion. It could have ended many times maybe taking some of the plot lines into book two or three.

Really good story

This book was a little off the beaten path but was really good. The story wasn't so off the cuff that it was unbelievable. It turned out to be a big hit with me.

If you like your science fiction to come with a crime drama plus a little genetic research, and a lot of spontaneously combusting pets, then Mr. Sandman, a novel by Lyle Howard is totally the right book for you.

This novel is about Lance Cutter. Born from a biological experiment, neither he nor his mother were meant to live. But they did live, until a tragic plane crash later in his life.

This novel reads like it is 2 separate stories, in 3 parts. The 1st 3rd parts would be about the genetic creation and government hunt for Lance Cutter.

The 2nd part is the meatiest part (and in my opinion the best part of the novel) in which Cutter is an arson investigator who is investigating the very unlikely incidents happening in which pets, and the people holding them, are spontaneously combating all over the place!

Other than when it comes in handy for him to see in the dark, the genetically altered part of Lance Cutter plays no part in the main plot of this story, but I was very much drawn into it.

Then the crime is solved, the bad guy is captured, and part 3 of the story starts. After all these years of being thought dead, the government finds Lance Cutter over one article in a newspaper once he solved his *exploding poodle problem.

In the 3rd act another player is introduced which took a turn I really didn't see coming. I would have loved to have seen that character introduced earlier, and to somehow be woven more into Cutter's adult life all along, instead of just poofing in during the climax.

I can only rate this 4 stars though. While I found the stories entertaining, the overuse of simile in the writing made the story itself almost laughable occasionally. I also feel like the 3 parts could have been much better tied together somehow. How did Cutter and his mother survive and escape the aftermath of his birthday explosion? If his mother knew enough to run and hide after his birth, why would she have gone back to the government looking for help to begin with? If the government knew so much about his special abilities why would they ever have considered him dead? They would have kept looking forever, or until they found a body, whatever came firs. Questions like those kept me from giving it better marks.

*There were no actual exploding poodles in the book...I made that part up.

I have to start out saying even if I had not gotten this to review I would of bought it because once I picked it up I could not put it down and am now following him as he is now on my list of favorite authors. Not only did I get this to review I went and bout his other book on Amazon Terminal Justice. I can not wait till the next book for Mr.Sandman comes out.He has eight more novels waiting for editing. Now on to the book I got to review.

Mr. Sandman by Lyle Howard is a very well put together thriller. It has an interesting plot, fast storytelling and masterfully created characters and surroundings. It is something that once you start reading you can't put it down.It is a military scifi type that works so well because you can think of any government trying to do this to get a safer get ahead in a war.

This has to be one of the most unique novels I have ever read. Where else can you read about government conspiracies and serial killers all in one book? Mr. Sandman of course.

This is a fast paced novel that spans almost 30 years and interjects two historical backdrops for setting. The first is the backdrop is the crash of Florida Air flight 90 that crashed into the icy Potomac River in 1982. The other is the infamous Hurricane Andrew which devastated south Florida in 1992.

This story revolves around a government experiment in which no survivors were intended. But when Lance Cutter and his mother survive, they go on the run.

Years later, Cutter emerges as an arson investigator in Broward County, Florida. A seemingly bizarre string of fiery deaths by what appears to be at first spontaneous combustion are not what they seem.

Cutter suspects that someone is creating a series of hot fires with intended human targets and he sets out to solve the mystery before other victims emerge. A game of cat and mouse emerges as Cutter utilizes his extraordinary gifts of supreme physical and mental prowess that he does not fully understand.

But as Cutter closes in on his killer, he finds himself once again prey as government agents close in on him for a final confrontation during a catastrophic hurricane in which there will be only one survivor.

The premise for this novel is unique and reminds of a good police procedural mixed with a Marvel Comics superhero atmosphere of which good and evil collide for supremacy. I have never quite read a novel like this before, but I thoroughly enjoyed it more than many of the books I have read in the recent past.

When I cant sleep at at night I love reading, any where from mystery and suspense just about anything. It’s like Frankenstein, but in an up to date kind of way. Almost glamorized in a way. I guess movies and tv shows have made the thought of running for your life and almost dying twice, glamorous or sexy.

The story follows the life and journey of the books main character Lance. I felt that the mystery flowed well to the very end. I enjoyed it so much, that I now look forward to my next Lyle Howard book! I’m thrilled .Barely escaping government agents, the plane they got on crashes into the icy Potomac river. For the second time in his life Lance is presumed dead and he start his life all over as an arson investigator in Florida…What was supposed to be a peaceful living, turns yet again in deadly when innocent people begin to spontaneously combust and Lance must use all of his extraordinary abilities to catch the killer.

It has literally kept me on pins and needles trying to find out what happens next. I normally do not read military style books but this one is a exception. It is full of suspense and although it is quite a large book and different things are constantly happening it all ties in perfectly. The main character of the story is really unique and cant wait to find out more about what he is going to do.

Who would have thought that Lance, a quite arson investigator in living in Florida was born out of a horrific military experiment gone wrong! He was presumed dead as an infant from an explosion, however, he had defied the odds, he and his mother tried to live a "normal" life. For some reason he was faster, smarter and more agile than other children. Lance and his mother go to Washington seeking answers for his abilities however they're greeted by government agents and deadly force. Lance is once again presumed to be dead when after escaping the plane they are traveling on crashes into Potomac river. Lance would have continued his quiet existence if it wasn't for a deranged killer causing people to "spontaneously combust" and the investigation thrusts him into front page news. It's these headlines that bring him face to face with the dangers (and trust) of his childhood.

I enjoyed reading this book although it did get slightly confusing at times while jumping around and juggling several plots however I could not put this book down once I started reading. I recommend for anyone who likes thrillers, conspiracy theories and/or sci-fi books.

Wow. I really did not like this. The bare bones of the story was interesting enough, but the dialogue was wooden, every single paragraph had a metaphor or a simile or even both, the descriptive language was interminable, the narrative voice was something like all person omniscient with "background" details given to every character no matter how inconsequential, etc., etc. (Come on, do you really need to tell us that random character number 212 introduced on page 401 of 420 is worried about her parents and "retarded" sister? What? ....... What?) I found myself skimming over everything but the awful dialogue just in effort to get the thing read and deleted off my device. Wish I could have enjoyed it like seemingly everyone else online, judging by the high rating on GR and on Amazon. Right now the thing I'm happiest about is that I didn't have to pay for it.

This was a well written book, that has many twists and turns. I didn't want to put the book down, because I had to know what happened next.

This book followed the life and trials of Lance Cutter, a man who has had to start life anew; twice.

You never quite know what direction the plot is going to take, but you can be sure that it is intriguing and will keep you on the edge of your seat.

It is a rather long book, so unless you have absolutely nothing to do, this is not going to be a book that you read in one afternoon, but it is a good book and one that I suggest reading, especially if you area fan of Sci-Fi, and Thrillers.

Very Enjoyahle Story

yThe result of genetic engineering, Lance has the ability to endure extreme enviroments with enhanced physical endurance. He and his mother had stayed hidden to avoid government agents from knowing they survived the disaster that ended the genetic experiments. He gets involved in solving murders and when the government agents hear of that they come after him. There are many exciting twists, turns and surprises to make this a very good thriller. I recommend it highly.

Mixed Feelings

"Thrilling" seems to have a different meaning nowadays. Maybe I confuse the idea with suspense. The basic premise was interesting. But having a Doctor creating a master race for the U. S. military, and coincidentally giving him the first name of Adolph seemed a bit over the top to me. The same was true of the names of other characters--a fat Black Sheriff named Abraham Lincoln, for example. Also, I don't need nearly every character die in order to be thrilled. I don't know if there will be a sequel. If there is, I don't know if I will read it.

This is a great thriller. Frankenstein is back and is an updated version. Running for his life and almost dying twice, he finally grows into an amazing man who lives a normal life. Until a deranged killer makes him step back into the spotlight. Then he is in a battle to survive.

I love this book. I thought it was well written and flowed well from topic to topic. It was definitely worth the read!

Interesting and a different plot!

At first, I had a really hard time getting into reading it. The layout isn't my favorite, and the spelling/grammar could use another check.

The story itself was interesting and not something I've read before! It constantly left me needing to keep reading so I wasn't left hanging!

The characters are relatable at times, and if you are to hate them then it comes through! I definitely suggest picking up this book!

Great read

I found this story to somewhat likely and very believable. I stayed up as long as I could and awoken dying to know what happen to Lance Cutter. I have not doubt in my mind regarding government conspiracy and secret experiments on mankind. To create super soldiers and a woman caught up in just wanting a child. Truly mind boggling the lengths the government would go through inn the name of science.

I normally don't read thriller gene of books. I have to say this book was more like a suspense/mystery to me. I was always kept on the edge of my seat. This book pulled me in from the very beginning. I couldn't put it down! I didn't even have bad dreams after I fell asleep after finishing it. Very good writer. I plan to read more of Lyle's work.

This is really a great thriller. It had me at the edge of my seat and I couldn't put down the book.

I really enjoyed Mr. Sandman by Lyle Howard. The ebook was very exciting, full of twists-and-turns throughout the entire story. There are very few novels that keep me in suspense and unsure of what the next page holds, but Mr. Sandman definitely ranks among the others on a short list.

A Bioengineering Nightmare

Part thriller, part science fiction, all outstanding! Mr. Howard has skillfully blended the two genres into a gripping novel. He draws on the current issues of genetic manipulation and governmental secrecy to craft a story guaranteed to keep you interested. I will be interested in reading more of Mr. Howard's work.
