Rate this book
Amorie Grant expected to wake up with a hangover, not viral sensation status. But in the space of a single drunk post, her innermost thoughts on dating became the business of 2.3 million viewers.

Now the barista's safe, ordinary life has blown up - into something entirely out of her control. Until her video catches the attention of the magazine that inspired her to pursue journalism. Sitting in front of the Editor-in-Chief, Amorie knows it's time to make her dream come true, by pitching a brand-new dating Around the World in 80 Dates.

But, as Amorie embarks on a six-month interrailing adventure, newly contracted to write about her journey to finding 'the one', reality hits. She's never casually dated or, quite frankly, done anything alone. So, when Amorie meets fellow interrailer, Noah, she takes the ultimate gamble. By asking him not just to be Date #1, but her new travel partner meets dating guru.

Jasmine Burke is a Caribbean-British writer, marketer, and lifestyle content creator from London, who grew up with obsession with both reading and writing. She credits her love of books to her parents, who fed her passion from the age of three, in the hopes that Baby Encyclopaedias would stop her from asking so many questions about how the world works. She spent her primary school summer holidays hauled inside (when allowed), writing stories to read to her little sister. It’s fair to say that those stories have grown since then, and she is excited to share her latest one(s) with the world.

As a bisexual girlie( THIS BOOK WAS THE PERFECT ROM COM FOR ALL MY NEEDS!!!
Now I adored love Quarter crisis because! Who isn’t constantly trying to climb the ladder only to realise you’re crashing out.
But back to around the world in 80 dates! Delicious! Fun and you know what, again, I relate to a girlie who feels confused by life and just wants to rant.
Something that Jas is amazing at is making her character so lives in. Am’s sisters cracked me up but I loved their friendship and how they would call her out. Paige, you icon.
Now Noah… barrier boy!!! Gidding!!! I loved how throughout the dates, he was there. Forever present and you know what, I loved the different dates- I mean a lot of the men were awful x x x but it was such a fun idea. And I only found myself rooting for Noah and Amorie more!

After Amorie Grant accidentally goes viral for posting a video of her dating takes, she’s offered a deal she can’t refuse: a chance to write for a magazine about dating in your 20s. She sets off to date her way around Europe, 80 dates to be exact, only to meet another solo traveller, Noah, aka barrier boy aka aka date number 1 of 80. On their date, they connect and share their reasons for travelling: Amorie’s for her column and Noah’s to find the one. Following a treacherous cheap apartment, they share accommodation and decide to travel together and help one another achieve their dating related travel goals, but of course, lay down some rules so their trip goes smoothly and no one catches feelings…

This premise pulled me towards the book as well as the author Jasmine Burke, whose other book, Quarter Love Crisis, I enjoyed. The idea of a woman accidentally going viral, leading to her going on 80 dates while travelling Europe, is so intriguing and definitely sets you up for a fun read, which this was. This, as well as deciding to travel with your first date of eighty, sets up nicely for classic tropes like the forced proximity of there only being one bed. The cities explored throughout Amorie and Noah’s trip made this so much livelier and inspired me to visit them when I solo travel.

I loved the dates aspect; usually in a book, there are maybe 2-3 background love interests, but to have 80 of them was really interesting and moved the story along nicely. This allowed us to explore what dating is like at the moment and the horror stories it can bring. Amorie dates the narcissist, the partier and the old flame among so many others, but as the story goes, it’s usually the person in front of you who is the right one for you. I really liked the friendship built between Amorie and Noah. It made their dynamic a lot fresher and healthier, and their eventual relationship more natural. I loved how, throughout their friendship, Noah was never possessive of Amorie; he was truly her friend and would do anything for her at all times, including driving an hour to pick her up from a date and another hour back so she could get to the date she really wanted to go on. Amorie grew to do the same for Noah in time, even if her attempts weren’t as natural or immediate to Noah’s conflicts. One of my favourite aspects of Amorie’s character was her dynamic with her sisters and the exploration of how being a sister can make you who you are. I loved Noah’s loyalty and wish we peeled more away from his character. Their relationship was truly the star of the show and was my favourite part of the whole book.

***SPOILERS***
Throughout, I did start thinking we got away from the original premise of Amorie’s solo travelling, which she didn’t get to do since she met Noah on day one of her trip BUT this issue did resolve itself at the end of the book when Amorie decides to take time for herself and travel alone. This choice by her and in the writing made me enjoy the book even more.

This was a really fun read and so perfect for summer!! If you enjoy friends to lovers, slow burns, bisexual FMC and there only being one bed, you’ll love Around the World in 80 Dates ☼

"The more we've travelled together, the more I've found myself emoting through him. He smiles, I feel joy, he frowns and my chest dips too. That's not just friendship. That's something deeper. I think I've known that for a while. But I've also seen how easily I ruin good things in my life."

GENRE: Romance
RATING: 4.75/5
FORMAT: eBook ARC
Tropes: Traveling (Euro Summer), Friends to Lovers, Only one bed, Slow Burn

Review:
This was such a fun read! I have read Jasmine Burke's book earlier this year (Quarter Love Crisis) and I LOVED it. I was super excited to dive into Around the World in 80 Dates and it did not disappoint. I literally binge read the book in a day!

This was truly such a journey, where we follow Amorie and go on a trip with her through her dates after she meets Noah. They both insist on being friends and so we see their dynamic and keep wondering: Is this the moment they tell each other that they are more than friends?! This takes us on a journey that let's us get to know the characters, who they are and what they think. We get to read Amorie's POV only and yet, we can see and learn so much about Noah from her. I truly loved reading about Amorie, getting to know her and seeing her grow.

We also get to see the reality of the dating world, with some of Amorie's horror story and a lot of right person, wrong timing concept (which ultimately always turns out to be the wrong person because wouldn't the right person come in the right time?). And I really loved how the topic of Grief is addressed here. It made me tear up a bit, the way we remember the ones we've lost and how it changes a lot of the choices we make is shown through both of our characters here.

ANDD I think what I enjoyed a lot was seeing how different and yet so similar the author's writing was compared to Quarter Love Crisis. In a way, both books have the author's voice and the same way of delivering the themes but there is a balance between the plot and character development that brings the story out differently. I can't wait to read more by Jasmine Burke and explore more of her writing.

I was provided a free advance reader copy and I’m sharing my honest thoughts.

What do you do when your drunk, innermost thoughts on dating go viral? Well, you catch the attention of the one and only magazine that inspired your entire journalism career, obviously. And what else do you do? You pitch the idea of a brand-new dating column, sending yourself Around the World (Europe – budget people, budget) in 80 Dates over the course of six months. Of course, why wouldn’t you?
Other than the fact, your casual dating history leaves a lot to be desired, as in, lack thereof, and also, you’re not one for travelling or doing anything alone. I mean, what have you got to lose, right?

Day One: Brussels. Amorie bumps into Noah, a fellow interrailer. Date Number One. Off to a winning start. Well... not quite. Somehow, Noah becomes her new travel partner and dating guru. So, over the next few months, they travel the length and breadth of Europe, helping each other navigate their respective dating quests. Amorie needs to let go a little and open herself up to casual dating, whilst Noah needs to rein it in and try to find someone to settle down with. All with a few ground rules, of course. And absolutely no temptation getting in the way...
I mean, do I need to say anymore? It’s a romcom - two single adults, travelling together, we’re talking friends to lovers, forced proximity, maybe even a one bed situation, I’m sure you can work It out for yourself!

This was such a fun, laugh-out-loud, cute romance, reminiscent of Lizzie McGuire. And I have to admit, I caught onto the Lizzie vibes almost immediately, so when it was actually mentioned in the text too... hello, red Vespa?! Well done, Jasmine!
Amorie is such a relatable character. She is bubbly, warm and friendly, and you just know that if you were travelling alongside her, you'd have the best time. She was definitely the epitome of a character who grows throughout the story. You see her confidence build, her independence grows, and ultimately watch her figure out that she doesn't need to become someone else - she just needs to be herself.
Some of the less-than-fortunate dates she goes on... I think anyone who's encountered modern-day dating, and the apps can absolutely relate.
As for Noah. Oh Barrier Boy. He brought that golden retriever energy we all want and need in a romance. A man who shows up, and not just because he wants to get you between the sheets. We are here for it.
The friends-to-lovers slow-burn dynamic was spot on. You were kicking your feet all the way through. The chemistry built naturally, and watching their relationship shift from friendship into something more was exactly what I wanted from this.

Travelling around Europe, the chapter headings, all the side characters - it was all so immersive and, as I said, very Lizzie McGuire. You just felt like you were there with them. I had a great time reading this. The writing flowed, it was simple, light-hearted and, yes, somewhat predictable, but I've said this before: sometimes that's exactly what you need. It was just fun.

This is most definitely a summer romcom. You can sit and read this on the beach, by the pool, or even on the sofa sweating it out in a UK heatwave (like I did) and have a feel-good time. It didn't reinvent the romcom for me, but it delivered exactly what I wanted from it: a cute, easy, feel-good escape.

Thank you so much to Jasmine Burke & Quercus Books for sending me a copy in exchange for an honest review.

Fun early/mid 20s romance set in Europe

3.5 rounded up for Lizzie McGuire and Cheetah Girls references.

This was such a fun read! Interesting concept, nice writing style, European setting which I absolutely loved!
The characters felt like early to mid twenties, which I verified for this review - Amorie is 25, Noah 26. They really left like in their early 20s which I didn’t mind here and enjoyed, but it made me more sure that lately I prefer older characters - in their 30s or even 40s.

I’ve had Jasmine’s debut on my tbr ever since getting to know about it. These titles and covers really catch my eye. Around the world in 80 dates was enjoyable enough for me to keep Quarter Love Crisis on my TBR but there were one or two things I didn’t like/felt icky about.

The pacing was okay and the burn was slow but in a way it didn’t feel necessary for it to be that slow. While I can understand the initial friendzoning, I wanted to scream at both of them, Amorie and Noah, for clearly having more than friendly feelings for each other but insisting on being “just” friends instead of talking with each other properly. Amorie was really oblivious in all that. It didn’t sit right with me how they kept dating other people, at times it felt too close to cheating (there kinda was one clearly cheating situation 😭) and simply deceiving other people. With that said, I could understand such execution. It still bothered me, but considering their age and the casual type of dating they were doing (with other people, cause let’s not forget Amorie and Noah were not dating each other), it made sense.
It was still a fun and good read for me and I recommend it but I’m mentioning my “little frustrations” for other readers to be prepared. I think such approach to dating can cause some readers to not like the whole thing.

Thank you John Murray Press | Renegade Books for the ARC.

I need to catch up with Jasmine’s debut and I will be waiting for anything new by her!

Amorie goes viral after resurfacing her old social media platform, posting a video and forgetting to mute the audio which has her ranting about the difficulties of dating. She lands a deal with New Traveller to write series called Around The World In 80 Dates. So off she sets for a six month interailing trip around Europe, hoping to meet the one. As the arrives at the first destination she meets Noah, aka barrier boy, and they agree to travel together from there.

Amorie was so relatable. She gave the vibe of someone you could instantly be friends with. I was rooting for her earlier on and knew something good would happen as soon as Barrier Boy made his appearance. I loved the bisexuality representation, and loved seeing her growth throughout the book. I hated seeing her so heartbroken in the third act.

I loved Noah from the get go. His pure golden retriever energy was fantastic and his constant flirty banter was so entertaining to read. He showed up where he needed to and I definitely felt he was obsessed with her almost straight away.

I loved the the whole friends/not friends vibe between Noah and Amorie as the book progressed. At times I was literally kicking my feet wanting them to realise how perfect they were. The red vespa got me. As a lizzie maguire movie girly this was EVERYTHING, and I just wanted to shout at Amorie for going out with Nigel.

I wish we had a little longer with them at the end. It wrapped up so quickly and I was desperate to read more in the aftermath of that. I had sooooo much fun travelling round Europe with both of them, felt immersed in the settings and really just had a great time with this book. Jasmines writing style is so easy to read and makes you feel as if you’re part of the story immediately.

Highly recommend!

Well this was just exciting to read.

Amorie is tired of the dating world so when she gets drunk with friends and posts a video on social media she never expects it to go viral.

The video catches the eyes of a magazine that inspired her journalism and they offer her a deal she can’t refuse, Amorie will go around the world and date 80 people and write about it in a column.

Off on her travels Amorie meets a snag on her first stop and in swoops Noah, who ends up being date number one, barrier boy.

Date number one ends up becoming her travel partner, after a disastrous first day, they end up helping each other to achieve their travelling goals.

It’s been an absolute ball watching these two travel. Their dating disasters had me laughing so hard at times and cringing at others. They get along so well and it’s fun to see their friendship grow along the way.

I loved how much they helped each other, how much they brought out the best in each other and only wanted happiness even if that meant the other one hurt.

and my heart ached multiple times because I just wanted them, they were so cute, so adorable together and I just loved them.

I lived Amorie’s relationship with her sisters, they have that tight bond (even after that viral incident) that they’d literally do anything for each other, it was so beautiful to see.

I absolutely loved this authors writing style and the plot that was cooked up for these characters, it was absolutely brilliant. This was my first read from this author and going on how much I loved this one, I know it won’t be my last.

This was a super fun contemporary story of finding love and yourself. At the head of the story we have Amorie who is in a rut and after accidentally posting a rant on her IG, that goes viral, she finds herself inter railing across Europe trying to tackle the 2026 dating scene.

Amorie is an incredibly relatable character and I found it to be a joy following her through this story. Such a great narrator. I normally prefer to have a dual POV when it comes to my romance books but I really felt this story was more of a tale about Amorie learning to love life and do something for herself. A dual pov just wouldn't suit the story.

Noah, the very slow burn, love interest oozed charisma, kindness and honestly if I travelled Europe with him I would easily fall in love with him.

Jasmine Burke does an amazing job at writing the views and the atmosphere for the varying Europeans cities. Literally I am now looking at squeezing a city break this summer to Brussells.

My only criticism of this book is that I felt the ending and the love confession scene was way too short. You spend over 300 pages desperately wanting Amorie and Noah to reveal their feelings to each other and the pay off for your waiting is a very quick confession at the very end of the book. It just fell flat. I felt that the last 50 pages should had more emphasis of them getting together rather than tacking it on the end. It would have been a 5 star book if that had happened instead.

**********ARC Review*********

Overall thoughts:
This was such a fun, feel-good read and exactly what I want from a romcom! From the moment Amorie and Noah met, the chemistry between them was undeniable, and I found myself rooting for them straight away.

I won’t lie, I did have a feeling about how things were going to end quite early on, but that honestly didn’t take away from the story for me. I was so invested in their journey that I just wanted to see how everything unfolded.

Book overview:
The story follows Amorie after she posts an unexpected rant on social media about her disappointing life and lacklustre love life. When the video goes viral, it opens the door to the opportunity of a lifetime: travelling across Europe while writing for the magazine she’s always dreamed of working for.

Her assignment? Go on 80 dates in six months and document the experience. What she doesn’t expect is to meet Noah—the man who just might turn the whole journey into her greatest love story.

Considering this had one of my least favourite tropes, I was hooked from the first date.

I knew from the title this was going to be fun, messy, and emotional and I was right. Following Amorie on her solo travels around Europe on a quest to find love for herself and her readers was entertaining and in some cases made me grateful I don't have to go through that anymore. Fitness guy deserved what happened in my opinion 😒

Amorie was brave taking this big leap, even if she was doing it to snag a job at the place she has worshipped for so long. She saw an opportunity and went for it. I can appreciate the drive and the confidence. As much as this story is about finding love, I also appreciated that Amorie learned to love herself more. Amorie realised that she didn't have to settle. She raised her standards, was always herself, and grew more independent and open minded as the months went on.

I would recommend this to anyone looking for a romance filled with love and self-discovery. I am looking forward to reading more books by this author.

Thank you so much to Quercus Books for the early copy. All opinions are my own.

Amorie is a brave, honest character who decides to take a leap of faith and travel around Europe to chronicle her dating journey. Eighty dates in six months sounds totally exhausting and also incredibly exciting at the same time, and she leaps at the challenge. She just wasn't expecting to meet Noah. Or that he would impact her journey so much.
Noah is looking for love. Proper, serious, real love. He rescues Amorie from a train turnstile in Brussels and becomes her first date, but it's clear that their feelings run deeper.
I loved the way that these two characters opened up to each other, the chemistry between them and the way that they quickly became inseparable.
I almost didn't want to finish this book because I was enjoying the story (and the tour of Europe!) so much.
Loved it and I can't wait to read it again

This is my summer book of the year!!!

This was fun, exciting, charming, full of laughs but still managed to make me tear up.
I couldn't get enough of this story and wish it was longer!

Amorie and Noahs journey together is just a delight to read. Swoon worthy romance, hilarious dates, horror stories and new experiences.

The Lizzie McGuire referances has me laughing so much. Amorie feeling completely overwhelmed by the opportunity she has felt so realistic and the fear of traveling alone is so relatable.

This was an absolute joy to read and will be recommending it for whoever needs a beach read!

Heatwave approved!

Saw this book recommended by both Lizzie Huxley-Jones and Talia Hibbert, and I was immediately sold. I read this within 24 hours, because I was just having so much fun with it. It's the perfect summer romcom, following Amorie as she travels around Europe for the summer, going on 80 days to write a column about them for a travel magazine. What stood out to me the most was how recognizable all of the characters felt - it was super easy to keep track of everyone, even though there were a lot of small side characters. I was rooting for Amorie and Noah from the start, and I thought their romance was so lovely.

I absolutely loved Around the World in 80 Dates, the second book from Jasmine Burke. Jasmine is excellent at writing funny, relatable protagonists and long, lingering romantic build ups that are almost painful to read because you want them to be together so much! The change of settings kept everything feeling fresh and it felt at times like a wanderlust-inspiring travel novel as well as a romance. It is an absolutely perfect summer read and I can’t wait to read Jasmine’s next book!

Loved it. I loved Amorie and Noah. Their chemistry and friendship were such a delight. I loved the way that Amorie's dates weren't the sole focus of the story too, instead the plot weaved its ways in directions that kept me on my toes, which I love. It’s also refreshing to also see sex positivity where the heroine can still have sex with other people when the premise is about her dating widely. Too often the author makes them chicken out bc of the love interest. I also highly recommend the audiobook too. With two fantastic books under her belt, Jasmine Burke is now an auto-buy for me.
