GRITTY. RAW. A LITTLE EDGIER THAN THE AVERAGE HOCKEY ROM-COM
Dirk Boulder
Travis leaves the cloth he was using to wipe down the bar where it is. He can’t get out of here fast enough. I should have gone to the game with my friends. My non-blood-related brothers. Though speaking of brothers, I consider calling Hunter. I wish I could talk to him about this, but he’d blow a gasket. He’d storm in here, drag me to the truck, and lock me in that homemade prison he’s always threatened to build.
Kissing a man a lot my senior, my boss, and my best friend’s dad is not on Hunter Boulder’s life plan for me.
Some of you know her as Mock, others as S. Legend, or Miss S. She welcomes all names but will often go by Mock, a name given to her by her readers. Mock is an ambitious creative, weaving the most precious aspects of her soul into stories. She is an architect, building fascinating worlds, designed from inquiry, rooted in worldly wonderings. It’s an intuitive process where she is the scribe, the translator, the conduit. It helped that storytelling was the language spoken at home. One simply didn’t say, “We have an ant infestation,” in Mock’s family it was, “I was on my way to the living room, when a peculiar ant crossed my path. I looked to my right, a suspicious line of them marched toward the pantry. In that moment I knew; my kitchen was under siege.” The natural flow of conversation always took this form. And so. When Mock wrote her first novel, she didn’t plan it chapter by chapter, there was no outline, no “plotting” to speak of. But she didn’t “pants” it either, she didn’t make it up as she went along. She knew how the story felt, where it curved in places and hollowed in others; she knew the destination it rushed toward. Instead of orchestrating, she let the world inspire her, and held space for the words to come, trusting the characters knew what they were doing. All she had to do was tell a story, as she always had done; like breathing. This is her peace, her healing and solace: Gifts better shared. Mock’s works are the comfort you seek when you need to come home. Her unique writing style will take you, wayfaring reader, to unexpected destinations. She always says, “I’m not in the business of making up stories, I couldn’t if I tired. I’m lucky enough to get picked to share someone else’s story when I ask a question to the universe. Someone answers; I write it down.”
I don't want this series to end!! I am SO ridiculously attached to all of these crazy OTT character's but this was a great way to round out stories for the main cast. And yes I stayed up until 3am to finish this because once I started I just could not put this book down until I saw how everything ended.
Dirk and Trav's journey to get to their HEA is a long one, like years in the making, but it's so worth the wait. Dirk's pining for Trav really pulled me into this story and got me super invested in the outcome - I needed to see Dirk happy so badly. The way both Dirk and Trav know there's something electric between them but they refuse to act on it for years was so good for tension building. It was totally understandable why they didn't act on things sooner, but it was also like the ultimate edging the reader before we FINALLY get them together 😂
Trav's possessiveness was top tier, everything I love in a walking red flag, but Dirk staking his claim in return was so brilliant! I just love how these guys stalk around each other making sure no one comes near their man, yet they also manage to somehow keep their relationship secret for so long because the hockey boys are so self-absorbed and obsessed with their own partners, which was really funny.
Hunter is the ultimate brother-dad and I adored how he was so determined to take care of Dirk and give him everything he deserved, and all of the opportunities that Hunter thought Dirk should have available to him. Hunt cooking for Dirk, giving him chores and generally trying to keep him on the right path was just the sweetest, even when he was a tad overbearing, but the relationship between these two brothers was so full of love and it was great to see that Dirk had that kind of support. I cannot wait to get a story for Hunter and his little psycho though!
I just have the most fun reading this series, and now that all of the main character's have their books I want to do a full re-read and absorb all the craziness in one go - maybe I'm as insane as they are 😂
Favourite Scenes: Trav walking into the sharehouse to retrieve his man!!!
Dirk wrestling with Dash and calling him son 😂😂😂
Maxwell being unhinged and eating ribs....
Favourite Side Character: Maverick!!! I am slightly obsessed with these Elkington men and I need Mav and Bryce's story yesterday... although Maxwell is being his pushy self I assume and we're getting his book next but I do love to hate him so I'm looking forward to finding out what the fuck is wrong with Eddie 😂
Favourite Couple of The Series: Honestly I'm still torn between RhettLo and Sutterchuck!
***** I received an ARC of this book from Nisha's Books and Coffee, and this is my honest review
Oh wow. What a ride! This was THE PERFECT way to take a breath from the HR meltdown (iykyn 😉). 😍
This was the first of this series and this author I've read and absolutely loved it! What a great start to the year! Thank god for Insta recs. 🙏
"I want to be his pain and pleasure, his comfort and his nightmare."
This pretty much sums up the OTT characters and the Dom/sub dynamic between Trav and Dirk. Their relationship is INTENSE from start to finish. I fucking adored Trav's possessiveness and his scary as shit side too but really, he's just a teddy bear underneath it all. And Dirk is the most unsub sub I've ever read before - and LOVED him for it!
This story is just wild, even the warnings at the start had me chomping at the bit to get my teeth into this helluva read. S.Legend just wrote with such a passion, I could feel it viscerally. And I was totally hooked by the taboo of the 20 year age gap. Their banter (??? is it banter when 90%of it is growling? 🤔) was just so FUN to read (and yeah, hot as hell)! 🔥🔥🔥
And all the side characters were written brilliantly. There was the odd time that the story felt a little choppy and disjointed, where I felt the pace was lost a bit, but it picked itself up again, so not enough to lose a 🌟.
Ahhhh the piningggggg… so good, the look but don’t touch, the relive the pressure, the accidental touches, the you’re always on my mind, you’re mine… S Legend is a proper genius at this and they gave to us in spades in the book.
Trav and Dirk, daddy and brat, Best Friends Dad and Forbidden Employee cannot keep this pressure cooker that’s been steaming for years from exploding. They cannot - S Legend really edges the reader - it’s sublime.
Then comes the giving in, the forbidden, the hiding, the secret relationship, clandestine risky behaviour perfection.
For an S Legend book this one is surprisingly low angst, not lacking in big feels just no unnecessary drama- mostly cause Dirk is a grown up!
If you want something hot, with all the feels, a ton of kink, lots of found family, sweet and tender but rough and growly… ok fanning myself - read this!
Also loved seeing the whole crazy crew, Saka sting for Hunter and Riley’s story and Maverick and Bryce and Maxwell and Eddie ahhh I’m so glad there is so much to come.
Leave it to S Legend to have me salivating for THREE BOOKS after finishing this one. I can't even decide which I'm most excited for. I'll take all of them, in any order, please and thank you.
What to expect: -best friend's dad -possessive mcs -found family -he's MINE -"you only get the air I allow you to have" ;)
Dirk & Travis were everything I expected them to be and more. These two are HOT. They like what they like...and I like what they like LOL. Travis is the dominant alpha that S Legend writes so well & Dirk is the kind of man that's ONLY soft for his man. Travis and Dirk both wear masks to hide their pain and I loved watching those masks come off for each other. I can't believe we've already made it to book 5 of this series. How did we get here so fast!?!? MY HEART. I am READY for some spin offs though.
HUNTER. BABY. I LOVE YOU. MARRY ME. MAXWELL. YOU MAKE ME FERAL, BOO.
I totally love a best friend’s dad + boss/employee romance! 🍎 It has that little taste of forbidden fruit that’s just so tantalizing 😏
This book starts with one of the longest, most packed prologues ever, more than 10% of the story! At first, I thought, “Okay, this is a lot,” but honestly, it was necessary. It gives us all the background on Dirk and his brother, their messy brother-Dad/little brother relationship, Dash’s trauma, and everything that led to this point. I appreciated that so much, it sets the emotional tone perfectly.
But, in all honesty, I’m not a big fan of the whole pining trope or the endless “I want to be with you, but I can’t because [insert stupid reason here]” drama. Like… we all know you’re going to do it anyway! 😂 Just get it over with!
That said, I totally understood Travis’s hesitation, the man is his best friend’s dad, his boss AND 20 years his senior. But still, the tension dragged a bit too long even after they acknowledged their interest in each other, and referred to one another as “husbands” and getting jealous.
And Dirk keeping secrets from Hunter felt like prolonging the inevitable, and for a few chapters, I just wanted to shake him.
Did I love the book? Absolutely. 100%. No doubt. ❤️ Travis’s possessiveness had me kicking my feet and rolling in bed like a lovesick teenager.
One thing I didn’t expect was Maxwell dropping by for parental advice. I literally laughed out “Maxwell, Travis is not the best dad! Maybe go to Mercy instead?” 😂 But then it made sense. They’re actually a lot alike, and Mercy would probably punch Maxwell before giving him advice (and he’d be right to do so 😂😂😂😂).
What I love most about this series is how the author doesn’t just focus on the main couple, we still get glimpses of everyone else from past books, plus hints about who’s next 👀
I’m so excited for Maxwell’s book (he’s been through it, and I’m dying to see if he gets redemption). I’m also very curious about Maverick and Bryce. The Elkingtons are slowly invading the Meyer family, and Mercy won’t be happy about another Elkington chasing one of his brothers 😅 Rhett stole Logan by marrying him, and now is Theo’s favorite uncle, and little sweet Lorelai wants to marry him too!
I can’t with this family 😂
And Hunter… oh, Hunter. That man is in so much trouble with his potential love interest, and I cannot WAIT to watch it unfold.
All in all, this book was amazing, emotional, messy, passionate, and everything I love about this series.
This book was fabulous! From the drool worthy cover to the perfect epilogue. I loved everything about it.
S. Legend has delivered another 5 ⭐️ read! Forbidden Hockey is beautifully written, and the characters are relatable, endearing, and absolutely hilarious. I adore a book that makes me feel all the emotions, and this one definitely did that.
The pining and slow building frustration between Trav and Dirk had me on edge, it was intense! There were definitely moments where I was begging... “Please just do it already!” And then when it finally happened… Fck yes! The anticipation was so worth it!
Trav, the big bad biker with a criminal past? (Yes, please!) He tries his hardest to keep his distance from Dirk, who’s twenty years younger and his son’s best friend, but as the saying goes, the heart wants what it wants. And when Travis finally gives in… HOLY HOT!
This is a story of forbidden love, a major age gap, and that irresistible best friend’s dad trope. It’s not a sweet or simple love story, Trav and Dirk had to hide their relationship not only from Dash (Dirk’s best friend and Trav’s son) but also from Hunter, Dirk’s overprotective brother. The sneaking around and stolen moments were everything!
Their road to their HEA was hard fought, but it was so worth it. Excellent book!!
A MM forbidden romance where a hockey player falls for his bestie's dad with (~20yrs) Age-gap, lots of pining, Boss/Employee dynamics with close proximity, similar attract, obsession, crush & a love that survives! I had been excited for this since saw Travis & Dirk's glimpse in Dash's book 🤭. Loved 'em, savored my #ARC, it's a long book! Travis looks hot af 👌 on cover 🥵.
Dirk (24) is a hockey player for Vancouver's AHL team. D's a quiet, thoughtful, protector with short-temper. Can be bratty but likes to be a good boy 🤭. Hunter is his stern but caring Brother(-Dad). Travis (44) was a biker gang member, ex con, current restaurant owner, tries to be the best dad for Dash. Sucker for his loved ones but is strict, loving, dominating & with a 'darkness'.
The long prologue gave us all the context for Dirk & also how D+T met. All books are concurrent eh? The crushes & change in feelings started when they both were adults, got closer due to their shared care of Dash & longing grew working together in off season 🥺. It's cute how bashful D makes T growly 🤭.
When own morals (mainly T's 🤨) get in the way... The pining hurt, yet they couldn't stay away. Sexless marriage era's hilarious 😂. Loved when they finally gave in, but it was early - sus 🤨 & yay 🥰. *Stuff* does happen, but T+D are VERY 'all in' (maybe the most in this series 😍) despite the insecurities 🥺. I loved their chemistry, possessiveness, jealousy (works wonder lol), similarities 😉. How T takes control 🥵, primal play, marking kink & cockwarming - hot af 👌. The long distance rep had me, the want 😭❤️.
If you've read last book then will know Dash's chill while Hunter is overprotective 🙈. OMG lol. I kinda like how even in (long ass btw) secrecy, T+D were kinda obvious 😂. There's lil biker elements too, but will fear win or care? Elkingtons liked 'em 😂, I'm excited for their books! Cute ending, loved them!
Format: Audiobook Narrated by J.F. Harding and Zac Aleman/ Dean Winters
Tropes: 🏒 Age Gap 🏒 MM Hockey Romance 🏒 Forbidden Romance 🏒 Slow Burn
Love for honey bees
Non-Spoiler Audiobook Review 🎧 Forbidden Hockey is book 5 in the Heartbreak Hockey series and I have loved every single one. These characters hold a special place in my heart and I fell just as hard for Travis and Dirk, as I knew I would. They were absolutely perfect for each other. Told in duet narration, JF Harding and Declan Winters gave us an incredible performance. I giggled, swooned and fanned my face the entire time. Both narrators took us on this emotional yet frustrating journey, as if we were right there in the story with them. I ate up every second of this book.
The ‘Daddy vibe’ has quickly rocketed to the top of my list because hot damn man, this book was FIRE! 🥵 Travis and Dirk had a forbidden relationship, that was very raw and gritty. They were both jealous and possessive but loved with their entire being. Dirk had the purest soul, always wanting to please everyone he loved, which stemmed from his past. This put him in unstable situations mentally and emotionally. I wanted to hug him every time his mother was around. Plus, being in love with your best friend’s dad, that’s 20 years your senior, causes secrets and lies.
I loved everything about their story and relationship. Travis had the commanding and possessive daddy role down perfectly, giving Dirk the security, love and emotional support he needed. Dirk was an old soul and everything Travis wanted and needed to keep him grounded. We get a glimpse at some of our favorite characters, bringing back memories of past shenanigans. I know I say this every time, but this may be my favorite in the series 😉

Let me tell you, it packs a punch. Trav and Dirk holy infernal hell those men could tempt a saint and make a nun question her life choices. Trav. Travis. Trav. That man could send me to an early grave with just a single word and a raised brow. He’s hot as sin, filthy-mouthed, kind in that “I’ll burn the world for you and smile while doing it” kind of way, and dangerous enough to make Satan himself break a sweat. The man swings literally and emotionally and I, for one, would like to volunteer as his emotional support arsonist.
Trav might actually be my favourite man alive. (Yes, fictional. Yes, I’m aware. And yes, I’m still crying in the corner about him.) He’s a beast wrapped around a cinnamon roll centre like Lucifer if he journaled about his feelings and gave surprisingly good “hugs”. And by “hugs,” I mean a quick one-on-one team meeting location: bent over the boss’s desk. It’s called professional development.
These two are possessive as sin. Touch what’s theirs and you’ll lose a hand or an eye but honestly, do we need two eyes? Depth perception is overrated anyway. I’m just saying, I’d give it a go. Trav and Dirk are my infernal little comfort couple, and I am completely unwell about it. Like, send help or don’t, I’m kind of enjoying the chaos.
The tattoos. The ending. The epilogue. My unholy little heart can’t cope. That epilogue lit my soul on fire and I’m still smouldering, half-feral, and muttering “Trav and Dirk forever” like a cursed incantation.
🔥 Verdict: 10/10 would sell my soul to read it again.
Found family ✅ Best friends father ✅ Age gap ✅ Mine , all the hot growly possessiveness ✅ Burning hot sexual chemistry and sexy times🔥 🥵
OMG I have been dying in anticipation for this book
Book 5 -it’s finally here! 😍
Aww Dash and Dirk are cute besties.
Ugh Robin IYKYK
Hunter is a strict overprotective big brother/father figure. But loving, which thank god because their mother is an alcoholic hateful bitch 😭
I want Hunter to have his own love story.
At 18, Dirk fall hard for his besties Dad , Travis. There’s longing, wanting , jealously, possessiveness… and it’s definitely not one sided.
Arghh THE CHEMISTRY 😍
Present Day - Dirk is now 24, Travis 44.
Travis is ex biker gang , now owner of a restaurant
“You don’t get out of a biker family unless you’re dead. The shit I had to do to arrange the deal I have now… I’m lucky. I keep my promise, and they keep theirs to leave me and my son be.”
The age gap is holding Travis back from Dirk but they are also in some weird sexless possessive relationship.
“Please,” he breathes. “I can’t take the wanting anymore, Trav.” Neither can I.”
Sexy times. Hot 🔥 They are desperate for each other but want to figure things out slowly.
Hunter finds out about Dirk and Travis and demands Dirk end it because Travis is Dash’s dad and twenty years older plus his boss.
Hidden and forbidden relationship time. They can’t keep their hands off each other.
Oh god, there’s a younger Elkington and he’s obsessed with Bryce Meyer.
Back to Travis and Dirk.
“I’m in love with you, Travis,” I whisper, and it carries across the cool night air, breezing in from the window. “I love you so goddamn much, Dirk.”
What is with these Ellington’s, especially Maxwell who has appointed himself Travis’s bestie. By bestie, he means hanging out at the restaurant and hacking into Travis’s phone. Ps. Maxwell is still batshit crazy.
“You need to stop calling me bestie.” “Too soon?” “Way too fucking soon.”
Travis and Dirk are not as discrete as they think they are. There’s a kitchen bet running on them 🤣
Dash finally puts two and two together, it’s only been a year of Dirk and Travis . He starts planning their wedding 🤣
Hunter finds out and it’s a massive brawl between him and Travis. Safe to say, Hunter does not approve.
But everything gets resolved yay Totally worth the read.
Hunter has his own “psychotic blond squirrel” of a love interest , Riley. Riley’s the brattiest brat 🤣 i definitely want their book.
And that’s the problem with S.Legend/ Miss Mock herself . I completely devour her books in one sitting and it leaves me wanting the next book RIGHT NOW 🫶
Hunter and Riley Maverick and Bryce

Coming Soon

Wow that was so good! Dirk has intrigued me from the beginning of these books, he was mentioned but we never really got to know him, until Dash’s story where we saw more of him but he was still so mysterious. And lemme tell you, I love Dirk. He is sweet and funny, protective and kind, sassy and feisty. And he loves Trav so much. Dirk was raised by his older brother after their dad died and their mom became just a memory and a shell of who she was. They have some trauma from that, but Hunter (Dirk’s older brother) has done an amazing job raising him, even if he’s a bit too controlling. Trav is Dash’s dad, he runs a restaurant, is an ex con and ex motorcycle gang member but he loves hard and he loves big and fiercely. He is protective and possessive and such a caretaker for those who loves. When Dash was abducted, Trav and Dirk got close, they became friends, after Dash comes home, they continue to get close and be friends. There is pining and wanting and angst and trying to do the “right thing” because of a massive age gap. But these two were inevitable and destined and written in the stars. Just like the rest of these hockey guys. Dirk brought tears to my eyes, made me cry like a baby. My heart hurt for this boy that just wanted to be enough, to be chosen and loved and cherished, no matter what he did or said. And while there are struggles and growing pains in their relationship, Trav and Dirk are perfect for one another. These two embody soulmates and fate and a timeless love. Well done Miss Mock for writing such an amazing story with these gritty and amazing characters that can inspire so much emotion, so much love and happiness and laughter and heartache and keep bringing us back for more. This series has been everything to me, one of my favorite series ever and I am just so in love with not these books and these characters but the emotions and the sport of hockey. Fantastically written. The story is intriguing and interesting and the romance pulls you in and the sex is hot AF and steamy. This book has everything I could want and more with that dark gritty twist that runs through this series.
Dirk lives with his older and very protective brother Hunter. Their shitty mother is a pain in the a$$. Dirk loves his best friend’s father Travis Nolan, since he was aware of his attraction to men. Travis is an ex-con, an ex-biker club member, and he’s now owner of a restaurant. He has been taking care of his son Dash. His son has been brought through hell by his ex-wife’s boyfriend. Travis does everything to compensate for Dash’s hurt, even though his son is already in his twenties.
The attraction he feels for Dirk can’t ever be exposed, he knows Dirk is crazy about him. There’s an age gap of twenty years, and then there’s Travis’ past. It can never be anything!
Dirk and Dash assist Travis in running the restaurant, between their hockey games. The tension between Travis and Dirk is scorching. Dirk is desperate but Travis keeps him at arm’s length. A strange and secret relationship grows, it’s one of rawness, obsession, claiming, possessiveness, protection, and jealousy. Without officially being together, they are bonded, claiming the other as ‘his’ and ‘mine’, without the world to know. The tension between them is almost unbearable. They look, claim, but no f*cking touching. Until… gosh read yourself.
What I said is just a super small summary of what the story is about. I can’t tell more about it, only, that it is not all sunshine and roses, more the opposite. It’s a widely written narrative that spans over many, many years. It’s super emotional. The pining was raw and painful, and ditto with the yearning. I wanted to scream at times! All the things I didn’t write about are as captivating as the parts of their complicated raw relationship. All so amazingly written!! It was an unbelievably good and solid story, passionate AF!! Recommendation worthy!! This whole series is incredible, give it a try!
I don’t ever want this to stop. This world Mock created for us, after all these parts I feel like I am coming back home <3. reminiscing the past and learning the present and future.
Dirk and Trav are everything I knew they would be and so much more. The thing is as I am so invested in this world, I know little things that might happen or the characteristics but then always comes the biggest surprise which is only a sign of wonderful writing.
My favorite thing is when a man goes all soft for the one and only. I feel here we got two of them. Trav even though the top alpha male that he is, reciprocated the vulnerability. I feel the energy was freaking matching top notch, age gap and all - when they got real. When they got real… I was done for. The pinning, the secret touches, the looks across the room, the I need to stay away but I don’t want to. Boos, I wouldn’t stay away from you if I could. And I never could. Classic Mock <3.
Hunter - Riley? Excuse me. I know Maxwell and Eddie are next but Huntery baby booooooooo… I don’t think he knows what he’s in for. It’s going to be greatness!!!!

*I reviewed a complimentary copy of this book. All thoughts are my own.
This is a best friend’s dad to more sports romance, featuring Travis Nolan and Dirk Boulder, and is book five in the Heartbreak Hockey series.
Travis, an ex-con trying to be a better father, falls for Dirk, his son’s best friend and the one man he shouldn’t want. Caught between protecting his son and following his heart, their connection proves impossible to deny.
I absolutely loved this book, it was messy, intense, and full of heart. The forbidden pull between Travis and Dirk hooked me from the very beginning. The tension was perfect, with loads of mutual pining, flirting, denial, bossiness, dirty talk, and jealousy simmering until it finally exploded. Their love felt inevitable, and it made for a deeply satisfying, end to this series.
Things to expect in this book are: Book 5 in series MM sports romance Check CW Best friend’s dad Single dad Age gap (20 years) Bar owner x hockey player Hurt / comfort Ex con Mutual pining Loyalty vs Love Secret relationship Spicy times & dirty talk Dom vibes Sadist Rough play Biting & marking Breath play Humiliation & praise kink Cum play & o control C*ck warming Calls him pretty boy Found family HEA
This series keeps me on edge, let me tell you 🤭 the writing of this author truly is fantastic and it's so easy to fully dive into the stories of the characters and feel with them.
This book was a particularly fun one for me, since I live for a good age gap romance story, especially when it's a forbidden one. And dating your best friend’s twenty-year-older one kinda is spicy, isn't it? 🥵
Dirk is a hockey player. That's what he does, and he is amazing in it. He also works in a restaurant, like Travis. Travis also happens to be Dash's dad, which complicates things a lot for the two of them. Well that, and the fact that Dirk's brother Hunter, who raised him, has a problem with said age gap. (I love Hunter btw, he loves Dirk so much, despite kind of being a helicopter brother/dad).
These boys really know how to spice things up. But there was also real love, tenderness, a lot of patience and jelaousy, which made everything more intense.
Definetly one of my favorite couples out there now 🥰
Forbidden Hockey Heartbreak Hockey Book 3 S. Legend
Dirk & Travis ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🌶🌶🌶
Best friends dad Major jealousy Age gap “I can't stop thinking about you” “Can't stay away from you” Pining Possessive Found Family
Wow. This was great.
Also, this was the dedication…
“For those who look up at the stars and whisper, I just wanna be called pretty while he fucks me like a whore— is that too much to ask? This one’s for you.”
How was it not going to be incredible!
Years in the making. Their relationship took years to get to the point where either is now. Hard fought battle for sure.
Dirk has cared for Travis, his best friend Dash's dad, for years. Travis refused for years, tomato on anything because of the age gap (20 years).
The first bit of the book is showing all the pining years they both spend wanting but not having.
Once they have finally given in, we get to See them build their relationship.
There are also a ton of other side characters who have a substantial plot in the book as well. Many side quests lol
I honestly can't wait for their full stories.
Travis was everything. Dirk was everything. I truly think they were perfect for each other. So hot too.
Hunter, Dirk's brother, is everything. I honestly feel we need to protect him at all costs. I can't wait for his book
Sweet Dash. Oh, how I wish I could hug him. Can't wait for Dash and Stacey's books, too.
Dirk and Travis push and pull added to the delicious tension through jealousy and possessiveness and they two could light a room on fire lol.
“Tonight is the end of his life as a free man. Belonging to me means getting to know another side of me. The ex- biker. Ex-con. The animal.”
This was so well done So thorough with the two MMCs, but also all the side characters.
i actually really loved this! yeah a 20 year age gap is a lot, especially if your son is the same age, but it didn’t bother me all that much which maybe had something to do with the way i pictured them. the pining was delicious and i didn’t mind the spice (which has been an iffy subject for me in this series). the drama in this book wasn’t all that wild compared to the other books but i think that’s why i liked it, they were just navigating their relationship and how it fit into their pre-existing dynamics with other characters. the prologue being 76 pages was jarring at first but i wouldn’t change any of the info we got in it and i think it was an important part of understanding their dynamic as we then shift into the timeline of the other books.
Growly, possessive men? yes, please. Trav and Dirk were hot for each other from the beginning, and the heat just got better and better. The age gap was pretty significant and the forbidden aspect was pretty great. I liked the side characters too and seeing some old favorites from the other hockey series. Overall a great read :)

My heart broke for Dash but seeing how Travis & Dirk took care of him was so sweet. Now if you like slow burn, age gap, and hockey you definitely found your book. I love Dirk & Travis together they are so intense but sweet as well. Book was really good tho.
FIIIIIINNNNAAAALLLLLYYYYY! I’ve been waiting for Dirk and Travis for so long, even I had blue balls. They were definitely end game and finally getting it was everything. I love a good fuck it moment and Travis freaking delivered it👏🏽👏🏽it was delicious.
From start to finish, I’ve listened to this series on audible and every one of them was pure perfection and this one is no different. J.F. Harding is always a favorite; I never not pick a J.F. Harding. Declan Winters is new to me and he didn’t disappoint either. Loved every minute of it.
✨✨✨ Forbidden Hockey by S. Legend (@slegendauthor), is the 5th book in her Heartbreak Hockey series. ✨✨✨

I fell into the Heartbreak Hockey series through book 3 (Breakneck Hockey) and it completely sucked me into this world. I immediately went back to book one—and devoured it too and so i was happy to get my hands on Forbidden Hockey. And yes… I will absolutely be continuing every single book in this series.
Forbidden Hockey is Dirk’s story. He grew up with a brother who basically saved him—pulling him out from under a neglectful mother. Hockey with his best friend Dash was the only bright spot he had. And when Dash finally survived his own trauma, he moved in with his father Travis—ex-con, MC member, restaurant owner—and the man Dirk absolutely should not want.
The age gap is not “lightly” taboo. It spans years. And these two pine for each other long before they ever allow themselves to be anything more than friends.
I loved every part of this—the restraint Travis forces on himself to keep his distance, the rawness of their emotions, the inner war between being a father figure and a potential partner… and then when they finally let go and just choose each other? It’s an incredible and steamy masterpiece.
If you love: age gap and a forbidden love with a found family…then you need this in your life.
Amazing story. Completely worth reading.
Quotes:
You’re not going anywhere, pretty boy. You sit your ass in that booth like a good fucking boy, and start your begging now via text, or you don’t get to come tonight.
Update Dec 28th Narration: 🎙️🎙️🎙️🎙️🎙️
The narration of this story is absolutely incredible. J.F. Harding and Declan Winters truly brought Dirk and Travis to life. Travis’s deep, gravelly voice in particular gave me goosebumps—it was powerful, immersive, and added so much intensity to the experience. I was so happy to be able to enjoy this story a second time, especially with such outstanding narration.
I have loved this series so far and this book was no exception! I’ve been waiting for their book for awhile and it was so good. It’s been a hot minute since I read the other books of this series but I didn’t feel like I really needed to remember them outside of the one just prior (Friendzone Hockey). It took me awhile to remember some of the smaller details but overall I feel like remembering the broad strokes was enough. That being said, I would say that reading that one prior to this would be a good idea. Maybe not the others but definitely that one. The one thing that I didn’t really vibe with was the middle just seemed slow. Like it felt repetitive but not in the way where I felt like the characters were struggling with indecision. Besides that, I loved these two characters. I’ve definitely been looking forward to the two of them and I feel like I got what I wanted. I love this series. It’s got a darker but not like dark dark vibe (maybe gritty is the right word?) that’s such a nice break for my reading recently. I think these have a good balance between the edginess but still sweet. Like it’s not sweet but at the same time it is. If you aren’t into dark books but want something that isn’t just sweet sap, these are a great choice. Some have some darker elements so watch for that if you need!
Thank you, Mock & Nisha PR for my copy of Forbidden Hockey. The 5th book in the Heartbreak Hockey series, it can be a read as a standalone but don't! Chapter 1 starts after the events of Heartbreak Hockey. Forbidden Hockey, starts with a prologue from Dirks POV starting at 15 years old until 23... it is the first 19% of the book. This Age Gap MM Romance is dual POV. Forbidden Hockey is full of pining, heat & heart and ends with a HEA.
I have wanted Dirk & Travis story since they moved the dresser in Friendzone Hockey, IYKYK. Forbidden Hockey didn't disappoint. It shared some updates on beloved other characters & sprinkled in easter eggs for other characters/books especially more of the Elkington family.

JF Harding & Declan Winters bring Dirk & Travis alive with their narration. The pining possessiveness was palpable & when they finally gave in 🔥🥵🫠.
Audiobook update: I have now had the pleasure of listening to multiple audiobooks produced by Blue Nose Audio, including two full series, one of which is the Heartbreak Hockey series by S Legend. BNA's casting is always wonderful and this series has had a truly fantastic cast - I have been so excited to listen to each book. However, I think I have to say that the casting for Forbidden Hockey is just - immaculate. JF Harding and Declan Winters were just wonderful as Dirk and Travis and I could listen to hours more of them narrating stories in the Heartbreak Hockey universe! They brought out all the emotion, all the frustration and longing, and of course the spice was sooooo hot! So, yes, I strongly recommend this audiobook experience!
Throughout some of the other books in the Heartbreak Hockey series (especially Breakneck and Friendzone) we have caught intriguing glimpses of Dirk and his obvious crush on Travis, Dash's Dad. For your best enjoyment, it really is ideal to read Friendzone before reading this book (but why not just start from the beginning and read them all? so good!). Forbidden Hockey tells the story of something we readers have probably already guessed: Dirk and Travis truly belong together. The book begins with Dirk's backstory and establishes the relationship he has with his brother-dad Hunter (and the book ends with this important relationship too) and also his relationship with his BFF Dash. Through Dash, of course, Dirk is introduced to Dash's dad Travis and over time, they get to know one another as well. I love seeing the strong bonds of caring that are created between Dirk and Hunter, Dash and Travis, Dirk and Dash - and these last throughout their lives. Once Dirk is in his late teens, though, he starts to notice Travis not as Dash's dad, but as someone he'd like to be with...and for him, Travis is It. I love how bratty he is then, especially when Dash starts wearing these crop tops around Travis to tease him as well as showing Travis that he's attracted to older guys. However, despite some embers starting to glow between them once Dirk is in his 20s, their relationship is a very slow burn. Even when they aren't together-together, they are so possessive of one another and it's so hot to see this develop. Dirk just aches to be owned by Travis and Travis really, really want Dirk to belong to him! There are years of tension building up and once their barriers break down, oh boy! It's a conflagration! They take so long to get together and we are really able to see why they belong together - and Dirk and Travis come to see it as well. Not only do I love how they relate to one another, I love their heat, their caring for one another, and how each fulfills the needs of the other.
While I am sad this series is coming to an end, I have very much enjoyed getting to know all the main characters and side characters too. This is truly one of the very best found families out there. I love all the caring shown to one another by all MCs not only to their partners, but also to their friends/found family. *Tears* Luckily, we also get some hints that this is not the end of stories set in this universe, yay, and I cannot wait for more!
ps - can i just give a shoutout to that cover? SO HOT!!!!

It’s with a heavy heart I now retire Sutterchuck from the number one spot in my heart and in their place firmly sits two people I had no clue would ever be able to take that position. Okay, dramatics aside… Forbidden Hockey gave me everything and more.
When I first started getting hints for Dirk and Trav, I was surprised at how excited I was for them. If a book has anything to do with an age gap or a dad (other than a single dad) it’s usually not my cup of tea. Things like Dad’s Best Friend and Best Friends Dad have just never appealed to me personally. These two however were a combination of two tropes I usually tried to avoid and I found myself scraping the crumbs out of the previous book. I knew I would give it a shot no matter what seeing as the Heartbreak Hockey Universe is one of my favorite Sports Romance Series to date and the fact that I would probably read Mock’s grocery list. (She is just that talented guys) If you have ever read any of the previous books, which I highly suggest before starting this book, you would know that she loves to leave us hints about the upcoming couples. Little did I know the crumbs she left that had me going INSANE wouldn’t hold a candle to how phenomenal this book would actually be.
Dirk is kind of prickly when you first meet him. He loves his people and his people only. The main person being his best friend Dash. In Dash’s book you see another side of Dirk where he kind of comes off as a little jerky towards others he feels treat Dash wrong (we love overprotective codependent besties) He isn’t the most unlikable character in the series, but he definitely wasn’t one you would have been chomping at the bit for until the crumbs started to appear. When you finally learn why Dirk has such a guard up it’s truly heartbreaking. He deserves so much better than the lot he received in the parental department, shout out to his brother Hunter you sir have my heart. Seeing him communicate clearly, be mature, but also act his age was a welcome sight. I loved the fact he made his issues within his relationship dynamic known and never backed down when it was truly important. All he wanted was someone who would go to the same lengths for him and he wound up with someone who exceeded those expectations.
Travis, that absolute wild beast of a cinnamon roll man. Saving honey bee’s and devouring his man whole, what’s not to love? Trav tries so hard to deny the connection he feels with Dirk because of his morals. He is trying to keep his life turned around and on the right path. He wants nothing more than to be a good father, good boss, and a good man. That is exactly what he is though. When he finally caves and realizes that there is no one else for him other than Dirk it’s beautiful to see him embrace all sides of himself and start to see himself through Dirk’s eyes. As the man he has become not the man he used to be. Trav was such a deep character with so much growth and relatability. He struggled to see the good he had done and how he had changed over the years and how his relationship with Dirk wasn’t a matter of public opinion but a matter of the heart.
Together these two gave me everything I could have wanted. Communication, fighting for one another even when they are fighting each other, spice that was SPICY, and just so much love. I felt all the feels with these two. So while it hurts me to say goodbye to Casey and Sutter as my number one couple in the Heartbreak Hockey world, I’m okay, because couple number one deserves it all.
💛🏒We're bruised, reckless, and beautifully ruined for anyone else💛🏒
"Because my heart's too into you to understand that anyone else exists."
"That's right, pretty boy. This is what it's like to be owned by me. You get the air I let you have."
"Looks like you were only prolonging the inevitable, eh? We're inevitable."
"When are you gonna get it, Trav? You're it for me. Me and you, we're the end. So yeah, if you go to jail, it's a lifetime of conjugal visits for us."
"To hell with Prince Charming. Go for the wolf. He can see you better, hear you better, and eat you better."
"As long as you know that I'm it for you, baby. You don't have to f*** me, don't have to hold my hand I public, you don't even have to tell a soul. But cheat on me and I'll cut your dick off. Understood?"
"Only you can do that to me. Starve me enough to possess me."
What a phenomenal ending to this series. I know there will be more side projects, but this series was everything. This was probably my favorite book of the bunch, but I loved them all. This had some great troupes like forbidden love, age gap, best friend's dad, and a secret relationship. The spice in this was chef's kiss and so spicy 🔥🔥🔥🔥. I loved the flow of this book as there were multiple timelines that showed a great back story. This story had a mix of emotions and pining. My emotions were everywhere.
This story follows Dirk and Travis. We see them interact in all the other books, but now we get the full story and interactions. Dirk has pined and loved Travis since he was 18. Travis didn't see Dirk as a love interest until he was in his 20s. Dirk waited for this man, and boy, did it pay off. I loved seeing them fight their attraction and not act on it. They wanted each other so bad, but eventually, Travis gave in tenfold.
These two acted like an old married couple even though they weren't in a relationship but kinda were. Their connection and chemistry were off the charts 🥵🥵. The spicy times were hot af and spicin 🔥🔥🔥. The mouth on Travis had me 💦😏. I loved how possessive and protective Travis was of Dirk. I loved how focused and jealous/possessive Dirk was of Travis. Travis is definitely the bad boy alpha. I loved seeing him care for Dirk in his younger years and how good of a friendship they developed. Seeing their love transcend from friends to lovers was amazing. These two pined for years, and it paid off. While this didn't have Daddy kink, Travis gave Daddy vibes and would do anything to protect his boy.
I love the relationship Travis had with Dash. It makes me so sad that he thinks he's not a good father or he's just not a great person because of his past 😭😭. He's such a wonderful father and man. The relationship between Hunter and Dirk made me emotional. Hunter did so much to raise and protect Dirk. Yes, he was harsh, but his love was so fierce. I can't wait to get a book about Hunter. I loved the brotherhood and relationship between Dash and Dirk. Those two were thick as theives and so adorable together. The best friends relationship between Travis and Maxwell was too hilarious. I was laughing so much 🤣🤣.
Seeing the cameos of the other couples was great. The humor was fantastic as always 🤣🤣. One of my favorite things about this series is the found family. Their family keeps growing. I can't wait to see more of this world. This author is one of my favs, and she nailed this series. If you're looking for something that has humor, spice, emotional feels, lots of hockey boys, brats and possessive men, and found family, then this is the series for you! 💙💜💚🩷💛
