Diabolical

This was an absolutely diabolical thriller. Fast paced and wildly entertaining as many of his other books are. A must read 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

After discovering her fiancé cheating on her at their engagement party, Mya decides to leave alone. But before she can get far, she’s attacked by a masked assailant who cuts off her ring finger. In the lead-up to Valentine’s Day, two more women are attacked in the same way, and they’re all connected to the same man: Mya’s fiancé, Dean.
Who is targeting these women? And why?

Now… should I start with the positives or the negatives? 🤔
Let’s begin with the negatives, because there are a few.
First of all, every single character was unbearable. Not one of them had a redeeming quality. It’s hard to feel sympathy for people who’ve been attacked or murdered when they’re just… awful.
Then there’s the constant overuse of names in conversation. It reads like this:
“Dean, I don’t want to do it.”
“Mya, I think you should.”
“But I don’t want to, Dean.”
“You should try, Mya.”
It’s clunky, repetitive, and completely disrupts the flow of the story.
There’s also a sex scene between Mya and her neighbour that goes on for pages. I was cringing so hard I nearly melted into the sofa. The dialogue during it was especially painful, I was very close to DNFing at that point. The only reason I pushed through was because I was already near the end.
But the absolute worst, completely unforgivable moment? Mya refers to her vagina as her “best friend” and says her name is Pearl.
Jesus Christ, God, Satan, Buddha, Santa Claus, someone please remove that information from my brain. In the wise words of Christina Yang: “Somebody sedate me!”
Anyway… onto the positives.
The story itself was okay. Not amazing, but okay. There were plenty of twists, and it definitely kept me guessing. It’s designed to be read one chapter per day throughout February, but honestly, if I’d tried to pace it like that, I probably would have DNFed.
As always, though, these are just my opinions. If the premise sounds like your kind of thing, give it a go.

I was kicking myself for falling into the trap. This is my first book by the author. I will not be reading/listening to any of this author’s work at this juncture. Repetitive lines.

This was so poorly written, it felt juvenile. The plot was non existant, the characters were underdeveloped and the sex scenes were totally unecessary. Should have DNF it

I gave this five stars because for a quick indie thriller, it's really engaging and fun. I appreciate that it was on kindle unlimited with the audiobook included. I wasn't a fan of the sex scenes, but I didn't lower my rating based on that.

I had way more fun reading The Engagement Ring Killer than I expected. This book grabbed my attention quickly and kept me fully invested. The suspense kept the story moving at a great pace, and just when I thought I had things figured out… nope. Wrong. I love when a thriller humbles me like that.

What really surprised me though was the romance and smut element. I don’t usually pick up thrillers expecting spicy romance — honestly, I usually assume someone is just going to get murdered and emotionally traumatize me. But this book said, “Why not both?” and somehow made it work. The romance added emotional depth and made the danger feel way more intense. It gave the characters real stakes and vulnerability instead of them just running around trying not to die.

The romantic tension also helped balance out some of the darker parts of the story. It gave those “okay but wait… are they about to kiss or get murdered?” moments that kept me extremely entertained. I found myself equally invested in the relationship drama and the thriller plot, which is honestly not something I usually get from this genre.

This also feels like the perfect slightly chaotic Valentine’s Day read. If you want flowers, chocolates, romance… and also a reminder that dating can be terrifying in more ways than one… this book delivers. It’s like Cupid showed up but accidentally brought a knife instead of arrows.

Overall, this was a really entertaining read that pushed me a little outside my normal thriller comfort zone in the best way. It was suspenseful, spicy, dramatic, and just plain fun. Definitely recommend for readers who like their romance with a side of danger and their thrillers with a little extra heat.

Unhinged Characters, Wild Twists

I read The Engagement Ring Killer by Franklin Christopher alongside the author and fellow readers in an online Facebook group.

The story follows Mya and Dean. On the night of her engagement party, a shocking incident changes their future forever.

As Valentine’s Day approaches, more women become victims, and the suspense keeps building. You’re constantly questioning who is guilty and who can truly be trusted.

The secrets and lies keep you guessing, and the unhinged characters take the tension to another level.

Christopher has a way of pulling you into the story so deeply that you feel part of the mystery. His twists are genuinely surprising, just when you think you’ve figured it out, he flips everything.
A gripping thriller packed with suspense that keeps you hooked until the very end.

The Engagement Ring Killer by Franklin Christopher
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟(4.5 rounded up)

This is a thrilling and twisty psychological thriller. It had me thinking one thing, only to be completely wrong!! There’s good suspense and secrets!

The night of Mya’s engagement party turns out to be a disaster! She leaves the party early, only to be attacked outside and has her ring finger brutally cut off. There’s a killed on the loose cutting off the ring finger of multiple woman.
Will Mya be able to figure out who is doing this before it’s too late?

This book was put out as a chapter a day Valentine thriller, which sounds fun to do, but I gobbled it all up quickly!

**I recommend the exciting read!!**

The Engagement Ring Killer is an absolute whirlwind from page one. This book doesn’t just throw twists at you—it spins you around, flips the map upside down, and dares you to figure out which direction is even real anymore. I spent half the time questioning every glance, every offhand comment, every conveniently timed smile. Deliciously paranoid in the best way.

The short chapters make it incredibly bingeable. I kept telling myself “just one more,” and suddenly it’s midnight. The tension stays high, the suspicion never lets up, and the pacing is exactly what a twisty thriller like this needs.

If you love fast reads packed with U‑turns, red herrings, and that constant feeling that everyone is hiding something, this one is highly recommended.

So first of all this was one hell of an intro to Franklin Christopher's mind and his work. I know this was supposed to be a chapter a day but I had to finish it.... I'm not gonna say anything to spoil anything but that was a mind fuck. Absolutely fantastic, I was kept thinking the entire time and trying to piece together clues, the characters were so fantastically deceiving and it made this read worth every headache it gave when trying to figure this out. Thank you sir for the book hangover and now the itch to dive down the Rabbit hole to read the rest of your work. If I could give this more than 5 stars on here I would because honestly this was at least a 10 star read for me. My 2026 reading year has some tough competition now.

Amazing thriller!!!

Page turning and keeps you guessing from the first page. Just when I thought I had it all figured out, Franklin waved his little finger and snickered at me and said, no you do not. I don't know who or what to believe after devouring this book in under 2 hours!!!

Ive just finished The Engagement Ring Killer and I’m still trying to process what I’ve just read. This book grabbed me from page one, It’s dark, addictive, and full of twists that made me question every single character.

Franklin Christopher builds tension so well that you feel like you’re right there, piecing the clues together, but somehow you’re always one step behind, and when everything comes together at the end… let’s just say my jaw hit the floor

If this book is any indication to Franklin's writing then count me in! The twists and turns will have your head spinning in the best way. Better be careful who you mess over. The past doesn't always stay buried and secrets can be deadly. Who is hurting these women and will they get justice?

This was a fun read. This author does daily discussions which makes reading his new releases really fun. I liked the main plot and the twists. I didn’t love any of the characters so I didn’t mind when bad things happened to them. I didn’t like how the timeline didn’t flow clearly for me. I wasn’t sure sometimes if it had been hours, days or weeks. I also didn’t love the police chapters because they felt too unrealistic for me. Overall I love how Franklin gives us crazy twists and wild plots.

Pink diamond 💍

I loved reading this book. It had so many great twists and turns. Mya's relationships are crazy. Mya's mom is crazy as a fox but shrewd. Poor Dean didn't deserve everything he got. Franklin and Armando? Well, their storyline was crazy but so good. BUT the ending! Holy Shit it was fantastic. Franklin Christopher you are a sensational author!

A couple of things from the book description that actually aren’t:

1. The novel seemingly appears to be an ‘advent calendar’ that lasts the whole month of February: 28 chapters in 28 days. But the novel does not take place as one chapter equals one day. Being it wasn’t actually one day per chapter I saw no point in reading it as an ‘advent book’ even though I started it on February 3rd. I also ended the novel on February 19th.

2. The book description also gave this reader the impression that we are going to have a death per chapter, which is a death per day. That doesn’t happen, so I was disappointed. In fact, the first death does not happen until several chapters in, so my expectations were not met and the title wasn’t fully accurate for me. Even in the novel the news calls the villain ‘The Engagement Ring Chopper’ as the first victims were maimed, not killed.

There were also grammar errors and possible formatting issues on my kindle. Normally I won’t let this bother me, but the significant number of these issues took away some of my enjoyment of reading the novel. I even debated on DNFing the book. I decided to continue it since it is shorter and I am glad I did as I overall enjoyed it. I wanted to know what was going to ultimately happen.

The chapters were short which made this a quick read. It was fast paced and I was intrigued with the directions the novel went. There was also a character named Franklin and being that is the author’s name I was debating on if the author was including himself in the novel. There were twists throughout the novel that changed directions for me so many times. There was one open door sex scene. I was not expecting that and for me it wasn’t necessary.

Despite the issues mentioned, I would give the author another chance. It just seemed like he was in a hurry to get the book to readers when it could have used some more editing/proofreading/ advanced readers.

The Engagement Ring Killer receives a strong 3 stars from me.

When I tell you this was a wild ride.. I mean buckle the hell up because Lord have mercy on my ever loving soul. Just when you think you know exactly what’s going to happen... NOPE, Wrong again! Franklin Christopher has a way with writing that will have your brain twisted up like Spaghetti night at church. I have yet to read a FC book that disappointed and this was is no exception. Mya plans her own engagement party to her fiancé Dean but in true FC fashion Dean has no idea that he’s even engaged. Put on the spot Dean is backed into a corner and the pressure is too much to contain so naturally he finds the nearest empty room and cheats on Mya. Mya walks in and this is where the story jumps off. Mya flees the party and into the night she goes only to be met by a masked crazed killer and ends up 1 finger short. What ensues is a string of murders and all signs point back to Dean but the twist.... because of course it’s not a psychological thriller without the twists. It’s not Dean. Or is it? You will have to read this one to find out because I can’t really say anything more without giving it away. LOVE LOVE LOVE how these stories come together and turn you into a regular ole Sherlock Holmes.

This book was amazing full of twist and turns, like being on a roller coaster. This is the first book I have read from this author and I will be reading more of his books. I really hope there is a sequel or prequel to this book as it was that good. There were so many strong characters, which you can relate to each of them. I thought the killer/chopper of the main character Dean and then I thought it was Mya's long time friend Franklin but changed my mind a few chapters into the book. After the middle of the book, I totally decided the killer was the neighbor, which turned out to be half of the truth. I will not say more without giving it all away, so I recommend to jump into this book and go on a fun roller coaster ride and see if you can tell who the killer/chopper is right away. Now onto the second book in this series.

The twists in this one are wicked!

The twists and turns in this story keep you confused, shocked, rethinking your theories, and turning the pages for answers. When you think you have it figured out, guess again! By the time I reached the end, I was reeling!!!

Dean is your typical trust fund playboy. Mya is manipulating, selfish, and let's just say 'the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.'
In all my theories, the only part I got right was Dean! With Dean's brother, Mya, her mother, her best friend, and the neighbor... Boy did I have it wrong 🤦‍♀️
Mr. Franklin will definitely keep your mind spinning his creative writing skills. You will be needing those brain cells to keep up for sure 🧐

A Love Story with a Body Count: The Engagement Ring Killer Will Ruin Romance—in the Best Way

Franklin Christopher’s The Engagement Ring Killer is the kind of thriller that grabs you by the collar, flashes a diamond, and then leaves blood on your hands. This is not a cozy whodunit—it’s a sharp, breathless descent into obsession, betrayal, and the lethal side of “happily ever after.”

From the opening pages, Christopher weaponizes intimacy. Engagement rings—symbols of devotion and promise—become chilling calling cards, turning romance into a minefield. Each chapter tightens the noose, layering dread with momentum until you realize you’re reading faster not because you want answers, but because you’re afraid of what comes next.

The pacing is relentless. Twists don’t politely tap you on the shoulder; they kick the door down. Just when you think you’ve cracked the pattern, Christopher flips the script, revealing motives that feel disturbingly human and a villain whose logic is as seductive as it is terrifying. The prose is clean and cinematic, the tension calibrated to keep your pulse elevated, and the stakes painfully personal.

What truly elevates The Engagement Ring Killer is its emotional bite. Beneath the thrills is a ruthless examination of trust—how well we really know the people we plan to spend our lives with, and how love can blur into danger without warning. It’s unsettling because it feels plausible. It’s addictive because you can’t look away.

If you like your thrillers dark, fast, and unapologetically twisted, Franklin Christopher delivers a knockout. The Engagement Ring Killer doesn’t just shatter the illusion of romance—it sharpens it into a blade. Read it with the lights on. And maybe think twice the next time someone says, “I do.” 💍🔪

“The Engagement Ring Killer” by Franklin Christopher is a dark, fast-paced thriller that hooks you from the shocking opening scene and never lets go. After Mya’s engagement party turns into a brutal attack that costs her a finger, women across the city begin turning up mutilated and murdered as Valentine’s Day approaches. With a clever 28-day countdown structure and an atmosphere full of suspicion, every man in Mya’s life becomes a potential suspect. The short chapters and constant twists keep the tension high, making it a quick, unsettling read. Gritty, disturbing, and addictive, this is a solid pick for fans of intense psychological thrillers.

I’m being very generous in my rating as it was a 1 star book for me, but I believe every author works hard and I hate to give one star reviews. I think it’s the teacher in me… 😂🤪

I truly thought this book was satire at first because the writing reminded me of a poorly written YA. The lack of flow and clear character transitions in the first few chapters made it very difficult to enjoy or follow. I only finished it because we were reading it as a book club group and I didn’t want to be the one who DNF. And the 🌶️ … it was very sudden and graphic which is not my thing because I’m a mee maw these days.

What a Crappy, Poorly Written Book This Turned Out To Be!

OMG! Do NOT bother to get this book to read. 2-stars was generous!

The main characters are all (presumably) adults, but The Author characterizes them like spoiled 5th grade children.

And, worse — The Author makes no attempt at consistency throughout the story, jumps from one place to another, and presents such an unbelievable trail of events, the book literally doesn’t make any sense.

The only thing The Author did well, was in his description of a few sex scenes … they were the highlights of an otherwise horribly written tale.

This was the second Franklin Christopher book I have read. I now want to read everything that he has ever written. I absolutely love all the twists and turns in his books. He has so many that it makes it impossible to figure out what really happened in his books. I love that he waits to reveal the truth in the last chapter of the book. So he really keeps you guessing for the whole entire book. I also love how his brand new books he gives you bonus chapters. That you can download and read. I can’t wait to read my next Franklin Christopher book.
