Little Death was a fun, filthy, dark little introduction to the Queen of Makers series, and considering I went into this completely blind without having read Until Death, this novella definitely did its job I NEED to know what happens next.

Catriona is searching for answers about what happened to her mother, which leads her to a masquerade party at her family’s former estate, now owned by the mysterious Aiden O’Connor. She’s there hoping to retrieve her mother’s old cell phone, but instead she ends up meeting Aiden under some very interesting circumstances. One reckless bet later, Catriona loses, and for the rest of the night, she has to play by Aiden’s rules.

My biggest issue was honestly the setup. I had a hard time buying into Catriona sneaking into a home her family no longer owns to find an old cell phone that may or may not even still be there. That reasoning felt a little flimsy to me, and it kept me from completely buying into the beginning of the story.

But once we got past that? I was thoroughly entertained.

This is a short prequel novella, so don’t go into it expecting tons of character development, intricate world-building, or a deeply developed plot. This is primarily here to introduce Catriona and Aiden, establish their very dark and complicated dynamic, give us a LOT of spice, and leave us curious enough to continue their story. And it absolutely accomplished that for me.

And when I say spicy SPICY. Four chili peppers easily. This one gets dark too, with plenty of content and trigger warnings, so definitely check those before jumping in. Aiden is giving me dangerous, morally black, obsessive Irish-mafia energy, and considering I love a good Irish mafia romance, I’m very curious to find out exactly what this man is involved in.

The audiobook was the highlight for me. The duet-style multicast performance was fantastic. Eric Nolan, Kasi Hollowell, Corvin King, and Eboni Flowers brought so much personality and intensity to such a short story. I genuinely think the production and performances elevated my overall experience and kept me completely entertained from beginning to end.

At just under three hours, this was fast, steamy, dark, and incredibly easy to fly through. Was the setup completely believable to me? No. Did I have a great time anyway? Absolutely. And most importantly, the novella did exactly what a prequel should do: now I want Until Death.

If you have Until Death by Nicole Blanchard on your TBR, I HIGHLY recommend that you read Little Death FIRST! This is the prequel to Until Death and I feel like you get the full picture on the situation between Aiden and Catriona. I know most don't think a prequel is necessary but I feel like this has some vital information and sets the tone. Like I feel like I would have been confused about the why of things in Until Death if I did not read this one first.

This prequel had me invested on how this would play out from the start. The prequel starts off with Catriona arriving to an estate for a masquerade charity event. Only to find out the estate is one she used to live in and the house where her mom died. Her whole goal of coming to the event is to see if she can find clues to solve the death of her mother. In the process of doing so, she witnesses something that she shouldn't have. Which results in her being an Irish mafia mans pet for the night.

Like I said, I was hooked and invested from page one which made me so excited to roll right into Until Death.

It was fine but was more like a couple of chapters than an actual book. You barely get to know anything about the characters before the book is done which is frustrating. I'm unlikely to search out the rest of the series because this felt like a really egregious money grab. Why not just put the next two hundred pages in this book and be done with it? I know cliff hangers get people scrambling to get the next book but this was just annoying.

I would have given less stars to show how much this bothers me, but the writing wasn't bad, just the decision to tease out a book in little bite sized bits.

Catriona is looking for answers surrounding her mother's death and decides to crash a Masquerade ball!! However the only thing she has managed to do is catch the eye of Aiden O' Connor the obs3ssive, arrogant, and dangerous Irish Mafia man. And Aiden has decided to punish our little brat by giving her orgasms....yes you read that correctly.

I am suddenly feeling very bad and thinking this is way better than therapy. 🤭🤭

This novella is a very spicy prequel for the Queenmakers series!!!

Now this is an audio book review so let's dive in.....

I absolutely need more of this ear candy and more of Nicole's writing and I am excited for book 2.

Little Death is the kind of dark romance that makes it very clear from the beginning what you're getting into. This is a very spicy, very dark introduction to the Queenmakers series, with an obsessive anti-hero, Irish mafia vibes, violence, and a whole lot of chemistry.

The plot is definitely on the lighter side, but honestly, that isn't necessarily a bad thing here. This book knows exactly what it wants to deliver, and it delivers it unapologetically. If you're looking for a deeply plot-driven romance, this probably isn't the book for you. But if you're looking for dark, filthy, obsessive romance with plenty of spice, then Nicole Blanchard absolutely understood the assignment.

The chemistry between Catriona and Aiden is intense from the start. Aiden is arrogant, possessive, morally grey, and completely obsessed with her, while Catriona brings a sassy edge that makes their dynamic even more entertaining. Their relationship is messy, dangerous, and definitely not healthy but that's kind of the point.

The spice is easily one of the strongest elements of the book. The intimate scenes are frequent and explicit, but they also maintain the tension between the characters rather than feeling completely disconnected from their dynamic.

This was my first time listening to most of these narrators. I was already familiar with Corvin King, but Kasi Hollowell, Eric Nolan, and Eboni Flowers definitely held their own alongside him.

Kasi Hollowell did an amazing job bringing Catriona to life. She captured her grief, fear, vulnerability, sass, and passion beautifully, making the emotional side of her character really come through.

Eric Nolan was fantastic as Aiden. His dark, commanding delivery fits the obsessive mafia hero perfectly, and that Irish accent.

Eboni Flowers was wonderful as Yasmine, while Corvin King brought his usual strong presence to Eamon and the other male characters.

The multicast format worked particularly well for this story. Having different voices for the characters made the audiobook feel more immersive, and the performances added another layer to the already intense atmosphere.

Final Thoughts

Little Death is a dark, filthy, addictive introduction to the Queenmakers series. The plot is relatively light compared to the amount of spice, but for this particular book, I didn't necessarily see that as a negative.

The chemistry is hot, Aiden is completely unhinged about Catriona, and the audiobook narration takes the experience up another level. The Irish accents were definitely an added bonus.

If you're looking for dark mafia romance, obsessive heroes, morally grey characters, forced marriage, enemies-to-lovers tension, and a LOT of spice Little Death is worth checking out.

Just be prepared for the cliffhanger because apparently Nicole Blanchard decided we hadn't suffered enough.

This is the novel that opens the series Queenmakers, and I must say, it is a spicy one.

The FMC goes to the MMC’s party with a clear goal in mind, to retrieve her deceased mother’s cellphone. And why would her mother’s phone be in the MMC’s house? Because just a few months ago, it was her family house. Something happened, and now it belongs to him.

She sneaks into the party uninvited, makes her way upstairs to what used to be her mother’s room, and manages to retrieve the phone. But then she hears noises coming toward the room and has no choice but to hide.

From her hiding spot, she discovers that the MMC is not who she thought he was. He is a criminal, and she becomes the witness to a murder he commits.

When she believes it is finally safe to leave, she comes face to face with Aiden. Desperate to stay alive, she makes him a deal, a dice deal. If the roll is odd, he lets her go without questions. If it is even, she belongs to him to do with as he pleases until morning.

And of course, it is even. 😂

After that, you can probably imagine what happens next, and I must say, it was delicious. 🫦

The narration was done in duet-style multicast by Eric Nolan, Kasi Hollowell, Corvin King, and Eboni Flowers, and I absolutely loved it! The narration really brought the characters and tension to life.

And Aiden… This nasty Irish mafia MMC is EVERYTHING. Give me an Irish accent and a morally questionable man, and apparently I’m sold. Aiden was straight-up fire, and I already need more of him!

Katrina is looking for answers surrounding her mother’s death, while her father is drowning in debt—to the very people connected to the mafia…and Aiden.

There’s definitely more to this story than just the spice. Since this is a novella and prequel, we only get a taste of what’s coming, but it was more than enough to leave me wanting answers and NEEDING the next book ASAP.

This was a quick, spicy introduction to the series, and honestly? It did exactly what a prequel should do, it left me wanting MORE.

Now excuse me while I go impatiently wait for Until Death.

WOW. i was in the mood for a quick "hook me" read and this delivered. this is a fast paced, MF organized crime story. there's open door romance, masked men, guns in places guns shouldn't be and naturally, an obsessive lead.. but who is actually obsessed? heh.

catriona and aiden are our morally grey leads, one wanting to protect the family, the other has motives that are not quite clear.

my only true gripe about this book is our FMC. sometimes FMCs can be TOO stubborn and the "i can handle it" kind of attitude and i feel like that's what stopped this from being a solid 5 star from me. i was so annoyed by her quickly. we get it, you're going to save the world and no-one can tell you anything.. but at the same time, do you HAVE to be such a hot head and make clearly horrid decisions? she's really selfish and it kind of gave me the ick but did really really enjoy this story (and book 2). i didn't even realize the ending was about to happen and was caught off guard which made me devour book 2 in the same day naturally.

quick read, spice, banter, and the mob? meh, i'm sold.

I'm kinda confused on what punishment is in these type of books, cus how is giving pleasure to somebody with some foreplay is punishment, is just extending the time and not really punishing. A punishmdnt especially from Mafia men should be something that will make the person regret doing what they did, but for this books in a more twisted and enjoyable way that does not involve intercourse, cus EVERY Single punishment is sex and is just repetitive. All books put nice sex as a form of punishment and is confusing, and is just copying and pasting the same thing over and over for all book not just this one,and other authors too.

But othet than that this introduction is short and simple and kinda fun but a little confusing, but with enough hint that gives the morLe to read the book Until Death. Although is not necessary, but if somebody likes to know all parts and sides of the story is nice and useful.

The duet multicast performance was beyond extraordinary. Kasi Hollowell was sensational as sweet, kind, grieving, sassy Catriona. I could feel her grief, fear, uncertainty, terror, lust, passion and love through her voice. Eric Nolan was spectacular as arrogant, alpha, dark, obsessive, possessive Aiden. I loved his Irish accent and his sexy, sultry tone. Eboni Flowers was superb as Yasmine, Catriona’s friend. Corvin King was marvelous as Eamon and several other male characters. I highly recommend listening to this audiobook.

This was such a good little novella!

For such a short read, I was completely hooked. There was mystery, obsession, Irish mafia chaos and just enough going on in the background that I spent half the book building theories, and I am VERY pleased to say I called one of them 👀😂

I really enjoyed Catriona and Aiden, although I did spend the majority of the book thinking:
“Oh no, punishment? Please no…”
Immediately proceeds to run, fight and generally do everything possible to earn further punishment. 😏🤣
What can I say? His disciplinary methods were not exactly an effective deterrent.

I also really liked where the ending left the wider story. We get answers, but it opens the door to something much bigger and definitely made me curious enough to continue the series.
Such a fun, spicy little read and it did exactly what I wanted from a novella.

Aiden O'Connor is exactly the kind of dark romance antihero readers either love or fear, and honestly, I did both. His presence dominates every scene. The story walks a fine line between temptation and destruction and I loved it.

What truly made this audiobook exceptional was the duet style multicast performance by Eric Nolan, Kasi Hollowell, Corvin King, and Eboni Flowers. The cast delivered a captivating listening experience, giving each character a distinct voice and personality. I red toxic by Nicole and loved it!! So when I seen she had another book coming out that was Irish mafia I couldn’t not get my hands on this too!! What an amazing story the plot twist was amazing the storyline was perfect and my god the spice!!! All around amazing because who doesn’t love a blonde sexy Irish mafia man! I loved their chemistry and their banter it was everything. Catriona and her stubbornness killed me haha I think between her and Aiden they both didn’t know what they were getting into with each other it was so funny watching them go back and forth. Deep down they both knew their feelings that they didn’t wanna admit was there was more powerful then anything this was a great story and I’m so happy I could have red it early!!!

I was thrilled to listen to this as an audiobook and it did not disappoint. I liked the plot and it has a whole lot of spice which I think was done nicely in this. The narrators cast for this book were phenomenal. They did an excellent job at narrating this. I loved listening to Eric Nolan, Kasi Hollowell, Corvin King, and Eboni Flowers. They we're utterly perfect for the characters that they voiced. I could not get enough of this audio. The narrators really made this story what it is bringing out all the best in it. I would highly recommend grabbing a copy for yourself. It's a must listen hands down. Thank you to High Gravity Productions and the author for a copy of this. Of course she gets caught by a psych0path- because that’s how every dark romance meet cute happens? 🤪

Seriously so much dark romance spice. 🥵 I’m jumping immediately to “Until D3ath” 🏃‍♀️ 🙌

Some minor editing problems, but honestly, I don’t even care, this book was so 🔥🔥🔥🥰

I loved the audiobook it was amazing!! They did so good with it
Corvin King is my favorite and I was so happy to see him apart of this book
The story is so good and I am so ready to pick up the next book that is on my bookshelf.

I loved how she was strong in not letting him get to upper hand at times and I loved Aiden and how he tries to be a big bad man but he is a total soft teddy bear and is trying to hide it. I can't wait to see where they go in the next book with their relationship. I really hope she gives him a run for his money.
If you love a good "your mine" trope this is 100% for you.

It was a privilege to experience this audiobook. This narration is in a duet style. This novella serves as a prequel to the book Until Death. This book introduces FMC Catriona and MMC Aiden. The short story covers their initial meeting and the backstory of their characters. The audiobook was a great listen. It had a lot of spice. Thanks to the narrators, the story became much more engaging and lively.

I'm eager for everyone else to hear these audiobooks. This is a must-read for those who enjoy super spicy dark romance.

This novella sucked me in right away with the mystery of what actually happened to Catriona’s mother and the spice. Holy spice, the spice was spicy in this book. But that was a really fun introduction to this world in a super quick read or listen. It’s still dark with dubious consent and degradation by Aiden, who is morally black and arrogant, oh so arrogant. However, Catriona is a feisty FMC and I’m looking forward to seeing more of her story and how she handles herself.

Of course, this ends on a cliffhanger as the prequel to Until Death. Do check the trigger warnings because this book does have quite a few.
