Demon's Bane MC #1

Need: Demon's Bane MC

Rate this book
“I may be their princess, but the underworld isn’t for me.”
Jilyla ‘Allura’ Carnis is on the run. Marriage wasn’t her thing, especially not with the dullest prince in the underworld. Escaping was her only option, and somehow, she finds herself hanging around Demon’s Bane MC. The many willing bodies allow Allura’s needs to be met, provided her true identity remains hidden.
Because Demon’s Bane MC isn’t like the other biker gangs. Hunters of the supernatural run the club, and if they find out Allura is a succubus, they’d have her head.
Hiding among Demon’s Bane MC isn’t the only risk Allura is taking, as she soon becomes fixated on 22-year-old Michella O’Day, the president’s daughter who’s clueless about the paranormal.
“Senior year was supposed to be a smooth ride. Allura is ensuring it’s anything but.”
Michella has been sheltered all her life. Despite being an MC princess, her father and brother made it their mission to shield her from the harsher realities of life. Their overprotectiveness has resulted in her being a virgin, something she’s determined to remedy before she graduates. Luckily for her, Allura is keen to help her with that mission.
The trade-off? The entire foundation of her world being uprooted.

This book is messy, obsessive, and a little dangerous and that’s exactly why it works.

A succubus in hiding. A sheltered MC princess who has no idea what she’s walking into. And a connection that feels like it could ruin them both.

What I loved most is that this isn’t a clean, easy romance. There’s power imbalance, secrecy, and this constant feeling that everything could fall apart at any second. Allura isn’t soft or perfect, she’s driven by need, and you feel that in every interaction.

Michella, on the other hand, made my heart hurt a little. She’s so sheltered and determined to take control of her own life, even if she doesn’t fully understand the consequences but good for her!

It’s intense, emotional, and definitely memorable if you like darker sapphic paranormal stories.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this and it was something different for me as well 😊

Thank you to NetGalley for this ARC.

*Possible Spoilers*

Need is at the intersection between not bad but not good. Nevaeh Ryn’s demonic/supernatural world has the potential to be cool and complex. Unfortunately this book reads as porn with a hint of plot. The amount of genital-sucking is obscene. I’m all for sexual expression, but not interested in being transported to a funhouse for grownups.

I was very interested in Allura’s backstory. By all appearances she is a human stripper basking in her freedom and bombshell status. In actuality, she’s a runaway demon intent on evading forced marriage. The multitude of realms presented during her pov was fascinating. Her marriage is the solution to tensions between the Realm of Lust and the Realm of Wrath. I liked the basic respect she has for Michella. She made sure Michella was comfortable having sex for the first time.

I liked how Michella has standards. When a guy tries to mooch off her during a first date, she promptly humbles him. In that respect, her desperateness for freedom doesn’t blind her. However, I feel like she could aim higher than wanting to lose her v-card. I understand that sex is a big part of her life, being in a gang family (her brother did interrupt their dad getting a blowjob), I just wish she wanted something that’s less steeped in sexism. She’s getting her degree to help underprivileged kids, why was there like one sentence on that? Every person in her life is a sex-crazed fiend though, so I can see where her ideals come from.

I kind of shipped Michella and Allura by the end. There's the possibility of a friends to lovers/forbidden romance pipeline. Right now their situationship is just that, a situationship, but the genuine care Allura has for Michella could progress into more. They both understand what it’s like to have men decide what happens.

The world wasn’t developed enough. I was confused as to why the biker/supernatural hunter gang is hell-bent on offing vampires. The vampires beat up Michella’s brother, sure, but the gang is also swinging at the bloodsuckers. I know that this is a generations old drama, but there was nothing about who started the war and why. To my understanding, sequels are coming, but more development was needed for me to care.

This book wasn’t right for me, however, I have no doubt that for the right people, it’ll be a slay. If you’re interested in a demon/human/supernatural world crossover, with plenty of dick to spare, and a budding sapphic romance(?), this will fit the bill.

Thank you to NetGalley and the Victory Editing NetGalley Co-op for an ARC in exchange for my honest review. I will be posting this review on Goodreads and/or Tiktok and Instagram in early April.

I was given the opportunity to read this via NetGalley and Makin Groceries Media, we follow a succubus princess of lust who runs away from her arranged marriage to a become a exotic dancer / club girl. The club is run by a team of demon hunters whose daughter is off limits but all this does is drive them closer together.

This is a first in a series, I didn’t realise it was a novella so it’s a quick read. Unfortunately for me the plot is severely lacking and reads like a fanfic, writing wise it’s more porn than plot. I was expecting more so I was disappointed as the premise sounded good. Also any book that uses “Daddy” for one of the MC that much who is in her 20s is cringeworthy.

If you love a short story and a lot of spice that reads like a bad porno then this is for you!

Allura escapes Luxuria, an Underworld realm, when her father arranges a marriage to a prince she abhors. Choosing San Antonio, TX, as her hiding place, she becomes a club girl for Demon's Bane MC, a biker club of supernatural hunters. A succubus hiding in plain sight thanks to a witch's glamour, Allura strikes up a secret affair with Michella, the sheltered daughter of the MC president.

Need by Nevaeh Ryn is a quick read with a lot of spice and world-building. I don't want to give away spoilers, so I will keep this short and sweet.

I enjoyed the three POV characters-Allura, Michella, and Aaron, who is Michella's brother and Allura's op. I cannot wait to read the next installment to discover more about these characters.
