When Bryn’s loyalty to her own people is tested, the decision she makes will change the course of her life forever…

Truth be told, Bryn isn’t really sure where her loyalties lie. Of one thing she’s sure, though, is that her fraternal twin sister, Jolie, who also happens to be the Queen of the Underworld, should be her sworn enemy. But after spending months with Jolie, Bryn can’t deny the fact that she genuinely cares for her sister, much though she shouldn’t. If it weren’t maddening enough that her relationship with Jolie is anything but black and white, then there’s Sinjin.

Cool, calm and calculated, Sinjin Sinclair is everything Bryn imagines she should find reprehensible in a man. First of all, he’s a master vampire and all vampires, in Bryn’s mind, are nothing more than bloodsucking parasites. Secondly, his unflagging cockiness when paired with his boyish charm is enough to irritate any sensible woman. Mostly, though, it’s Sinjin’s unapologetic sexuality that Bryn finds extremely off-putting…and, well, somewhat entertaining and possibly even exhilarating...

After Bryn purposely botches her leader’s attack on Jolie, Bryn finds herself returned to her old life, a life she thought she’d wanted. But the old adage, “be careful what you wish for because you might get it,” will take on new meaning once she finds herself playing hostage to her own people.

I’m a huge fan of anything paranormal and I always have been. I get super excited whenever they have those Twilight Zone Marathon days and anything ghost or vampire related will always attract my attention.

My interests are varied but aside from writing, I’m most excited about traveling. I’m extremely fortunate to have been able to live in England and Scotland, both places really having a profound effect on my books.

Thanks for checking out my books and I hope you enjoy them! Happy Haunting!

I typically don't write reviews, I need to feel strongly one way or the other about a book to do it–so here we go:
This book bums me out for so many reasons. I loved the Jolie and Dulcie series, I thought they had great character development, good worldbuilding, fun storylines, and reliable humor. This series has none of those qualities. Bryn continues to tell us (not show us) how she is one of the best fighters from her side, which I would assume requires some amount of intelligence and mental strength. In book one, I could have planned better escape attempts. For someone who is supposedly well-versed on her enemy, she sure acted as if she didn't know what was going on. A female main character that throws her hands on her hips with attitude, needs constant rescuing, and is super insecure does not make for an interesting heroine. She reminds us over and over that she is super confident, but I've never seen it.
In book two, she swears she will never do or say something and five minutes later is easily persuaded to do or say exactly what she just swore against. I'm not going to comment on the disturbing things that happened to her while she was at Luce's compound, but it made me pretty uneasy at the end when only two days after rescuing her, Sinjin proposed his cliff-hanger solution. How about we give a girl a chance to recover from something that I'm sure would be pretty traumatic to get past, don't you think?
This leads me to Sinjin. I LOVED his character from the Jolie series, but there is no development in these past two books. His scenes rely solely on his smirks and sarcasm, which is all well and good until there is nothing that progresses with him and he starts to lose some of his depth.
These books are one melodramatic scene after the other linked by awkward sexual tension. There is no real plot, everything that was so great about the author's work in previous works is totally lost for me here. I hate to say this, but I liked her writing before she got published. Now all of the stories are too short, too trite, and have too much time spent recapping previous books.
Sadly, I will not be finishing this series.

I loved the Jolie Series, and was looking forward to reading the Sinjin series, but in reality it is a short incomplete story (in fact both book 1 and book 2) left me feeling lacking. I wished they would have been as good as the Jolie series. I wanted to like these, but honestly I can't recommend them.. they leave you longing for more, than they do in satisfying your desire for the story to continue. I agree with the rest of the reviewers, you don't let a woman get ganged raped and then pretend a day or so later she has sexual stirrings for a man.. It takes much longer to get over something like that! Let alone when that is your first sexual experience! I was very disappointed in this series. I know that the author has it in her to write a better story than this. I hope she continues the Jolie series with the same integrity that those books were written in. The Jolie series is the first series I've bought all the Kindle books to, and now I will shy away from any of her other books for fear they will be written in the same fashion as the Sinjin series was. :(

I did not want to finish this book. But once in the reading challenge it always counts as a book read. The main character in this books is raped for weeks. For weeks. She goes from a powerful warrior to being locked up and raped by many men. No thanks. This was not for me. Sinjin and her sister are a big disappoint in this book , after everything she gave up for them. I really just have no words for how disappointed I am in the way this story developed. So Many options. I will not continue this series, absolutely ruined.

CAUTION!! THIS REVIEW MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS! IF YOU DON’T WANT TO READ ANY SPOILERS PLEASE STOP READING NOW! IF YOU DO WANT TO READ SPOILERS CONTINUE ON! I WON’T ALWAYS HAVE SPOILERS THOUGH!!

H.P. Mallory has woven another great story. I know that I said in my “I am currently reading….” post that I wasn’t a fan of Bryn but I might actually be mistaken. In this story I have fallen in love with the character even more than I did in the first book. This book takes place where the first one left off with. Which was at Jolie’s wedding to Rand and Luce telling Bryn that they are going to attack.

This book is fast-paced and the rest of it takes place three weeks after the wedding and something totally cute happening for Jolie. After Bryn gets back to Montana, and with her tribe, what she did with Jolie really upset Luce so much that he took away her status and put her into a class that she would have never thought was possible for her to ever become something that…low for her.

All I have to say is that I feel bad for Bryn and that no one should have to go through with that. But then again Sinjin being the total gentleman he is at the end of the book is quite possibly one of the main reasons why he is my second best male character from Mallory’s Jolie/Bryn series. The first one would have to be Rand. Then for my best female character’s its Jolie and then Bryn. I will have to give this book a five stars. Sure I didn’t like what happened to Bryn but after talking it over with my mom I know that stuff like that happens and I believe that H.P. Mallory is just building up the character.

HP has done it again, I will say this book has a lot more grit than her other books and there are some subjects that are tough to bare, but I believe reading about it brings awareness to the issue even if it is PR.

I love this series and I am so glad she has spun the series off into this and I am really just wanting to dig deep into Sinjin.

I love this series and I am so glad I finally finished the book. I should have finished it a lot sooner.

LOVE LOVE LOVE this series.

Where to start... First I love Mallory's style of writing with all of her series this one included. I feel a little dissatisfied with the length of this book as well as the cliff hanger ending. Some of the subject matter in the book was not so much fun to read about either. I don't want to say too much for those who have not read the book yet. I really like Sinjin as a character so I will continue to read the next book in the series in the hopes that it will get better.

DOES THIS SERIES CONTINUE?!?!?
I finished this book in one day. Other than it being short, it was intriguing and there was so much emotion between Bryn and Sinjin that I couldn't stop reading it. To say the least I loved it! When I finished the book I started to panic, thinking it was the last book in that series. And I'm still not totally convinced that it isn't. If you have any clue of the continuance of the series, please let me know ASAP!!

Should come with a trigger warning

While the narrative was as the rest of the Jolie/Bryn series, I can't get over the fact that rape was described in detail. As a victim of DV, this honestly repulsed me and I couldn't even finish the book. Had I known, I would not have read it at all. She really dropped the ball. Describing, in detail, a woman being raped is just savage...it's not erotic or desirable.

I could spend all my time with Sinjin

I If you like book one, you will love book 2. This series is a little darker than the previous but the characters can handle it. It's like watching adults become people for the first time. To find your heart you have to get past the yucky stuff

God loved it

H.P. Has done it again! I can't wait till the next book in this series. It's nice to get an update on Jolie and Rand. To see how much Bryn has grown from the single minded unemotional person to some one who is much more human. I hope she is able to over come what has happened to her and that Sinjin gets the justice that is so needed.

Too short. I understand the desire to have a series, but the books are too short and seem incomplete.

Bryn has returned to her camp with Luce. She knows she will be punished for helping Jolie. Bryn expects it. She just has no idea how far Luce will take her punishment.

When Bryn learns Luce's plans for her, she is outraged. Unfortunately, there's no escape. Bryn is demoted from her duties and labeled a breeder, a fate that seems worse than death. Is this her life now?

Wow! THE SCENT by author H.P. Mallory changed my opinion about the BRYN and SINJIN series. It takes off right after the events of the first book, SINJIN. THE SCENT follows Bryn's capture by Luce. Bryn finally sees Luce for the evil spawn that he is. Could her punishment be any worse? Being the strong, resilient woman that Bryn is, it isn't hard to see why she's a survivor. THE SCENT is a dark, but compelling read. I can only hope things are looking up for Bryn in the next book.

I think that Mallory presents us with another book that's entangled with intrigue and magic. It's a good series and I like the story, love the plot line, but I'm not sure why the series would need a 3rd? I haven't yet read The Gentleman, but I feel almost as though it could have possibly been one big novel. great story!! Just maybe drawn out a bit.

Tears

This book was emotional. I admit, I cried towards the end in the bathroom scene. All the things Bryn went through was heartbreaking. I anxiously await the butt kicking that will take place in the future!!

Brilliant

This is a brilliant book and continues the antics of Sinjin. However it does deal with the sensitive subject of rape. Not in a graphic way but this may be upsetting to some readers.

Not as good as the first book and even though it's a spin-off from the Jolie books it's got nothing on them but I still enjoyed it.

*This book was provided by the author/publisher for an honest review.

Ohhhhh Book 2 is just as high tension as book 1, but the ending killed me and I scoured the internet to see when the next one is coming out. NOTHING. Just a little about a spinoff!!! Tell me! Tell ME!! TELLL MEEEEE!!! OK, enough whining...

Recap. Bryn is still a semi-prisoner, held by her fraternal twin sister, Jolie, the Queen of the Underworld. If you read book 1, you know that they were separated at birth and the two fractions kept them apart!! Now the struggle begins. DOES BRYN FALL IN LOVE WITH SEXXXY SINJIN!!!

Ummmm you will have to find out... I will tell you there is a crazy twist that really shocked me but showed me that HP Mallory is very versatile in her writing style! INDEED. The twist leads Bryn hurt and broken but by who's hands!! Oh, what a writing web the word smith weaves!! Read on my bookies read on!!

I really need book 2, It can't end like it did. It just can't. I need something. ANYTHING. I am tipping my Nerd Girl hat to you HP but come on throw the next book in my hat!! PLEASE!

Well this book was not like the others the author has written previously. This was more serious and as much as I appreciated the intensity of this book, I was a bit put off by the topic. I know horrible things such as this book discussed are real and I thought the author handled the topic ingeniously. I'm just not fond of reading about someone getting raped...repeatedly. Yes, it was tasteful and I definitely sympathized with the character. But again, not loving that portion of the book.

Now on to something I did love. Sinjin! Who cannot love Sinjin? The author has a way of creeping Mr. Sexy Sinjin into your girly parts and having him stay there. He is a great character and I'm fiercely curious if Brynn can take down his defenses and melt his heart. What could be more sexier than a loving devoted vampire who wants only you? I look forward to seeing if she conquers him.

Strange.

While I enjoyed the first book, Sinjin, this one left me .... Confused. I read other reviews of this book and found myself confused on the complaints regarding what happened to Bryn.

My biggest struggles with this book was the holes. Every time it felt like more plot was about to be exposed (other than the obvious of the fight between good and evil) it disappeared completely. There are hints where there could be layers but they are quickly ignored, glazed over, or obviously put to the side to encourage the purchase of the next novella (these are not long enough for me to consider a book).

I do love the series so far but it's not one I would recommend to others unless they were looking for a filler series o read in between some of the authors others.

Much better than book one 3.5 stars

I liked this one much better but it feels like half a book! Honestly, was she rushed and on a deadline? Because that's exactly what it feels like. Like she left it right in the middle of a sentence. But for half a book it wasn't bad. Well written and this one was much faster paced than the last book. If like me you weren't crazy about book one but want to know if it's worth getting this one, then yes it is. It's short though and I'm not sure ite worth the price, for half a book. When she finishes the next one they should really be combined and I really hope she doesn't do this again.

Title: "the Scent", book #2 in the "Bryn & Sinjin" series
Written by: H.P. Mallory
Format: ebook via Samsung 4 NOOK (Barnes & Noble); approximately 150 pages, electronically.
Began: 03.21.15
Completed (entire story): 03.23.15
My overall rating: 5 stars!

My remarks:

I will begin by saying I am hopelessly, shamelessly, ridiculously head-over-heels in fictional love with Sinjin, the charismatic and UBER hunky vampire! I have adored him since the first "Jolie" book, though I have equally lustful - I mean! LOVING feelings for Rand as well....

Sinjin has been my favorite vampire in H.P.’s books for some time. I am so thrilled that there is a series devoted to him. I loved the first book and this second one is even better. I love seeing how Bryn has matured as a person and a character. I am fascinated by these new sides of Sinjin and cannot wait to see where things go from here. But I must say that I am concerned about Luce and his powers.
