Detective Jacq doesn’t do messy. Not in her cases. Not in her life. And definitely not in her heart. Going undercover at an AA meeting was supposed to be find the predator, connect the dots, close the case. But then Lyssa walks in—magnetic, dangerous in ways Jacq can’t name, and impossible to ignore. The deeper Jacq digs, the tighter the trap becomes. Between lust and loyalty. Between secrets and survival. Between the woman she swore to protect and the one she can’t stop wanting. Someone in this town has blood on their hands. And Jacq’s about to discover just how far she’s willing to go to keep hers clean. Dark. Obsessive. Unforgiving.

Jacqueline, or better known as Jacq, is the lead detective on a case of missing bodies popping up all over town. All of the victims have the same thing in common. They all have records of CSA and they all attend the same AA meeting. They’re monsters hiding in plain site and Jacq is determined to find out who the killer is which leads to her going undercover and attending the same meeting the victims attended.
It’s here that Jacq meets Lyssa. Lyssa is beautiful and Jacq can’t help but watch her. But Lyssa is also the counselor of the meetings. She’s in charge.. which could also mean, she has access to the records of the people who have attended.
Jacq & Lyssa hit it off immediately and it’s basically love at first sight. But there are secrets they’re keeping from each other. Bodies are still showing up and Lyssa doesn’t know that the person she’s sleeping with is a detective. Now time is running out and Jacq doesn’t want to believe that the person she’s in love with, who makes her feel safe, may be the person who she’s hunting for.
For starters, thank you to the author, Nycole Dicredico for sending me the ARC! I’m so glad I got to read it. This book had so many twists and turns it literally kept me on the edge of my seat the whole way through. So many secrets, so many horrific stories. Jacq has skeletons of her own she’s tried to keep buried and let’s not forget a dog, named Mace, who has separation anxiety. When all the lies finally lead to the truth, can their love survive? Will they finally be able to live a life of peace? And is there someone else you least expect who’s helping? You’ll have to read to find out!!! This story is thrilling, dark, in some ways really sad, and the chemistry between Jacq & Lyssa is ELECTRIFYING!! It’s definitely a 4 star read for the plot alone, however, I will say that while it is plot heavy, it was also spice heavy. Every conversation between Jacq & Lyssa ended with them doing unspeakably naughty things to each other. Not that I mind at all. Really great story, highly recommend!
This is the best book I have read this year. I normally don't read books that touch the topic of CSAM and CSA. I know my triggers and the stuff that happened when I was a child. I also know how justice is often not served.
This book is a saphic love story and a story of healing.
Thank you for writing such a beautiful healing book.
I really liked the thriller plot in this book. the banter with Drake was a great addition to it as well. I could definitely picture Jacq as this badass cop not taking shit from anyone. Finding dead bodies everywhere and trying to find the culprit leads her to an undercover task where she meets Lyssa.
Just when you think you figure it out boom...nope. I only gave it a 4 because it felt spice heavy, which I am always for, in the middle. It seemed that anytime Jacq and Lyssa are together, all they do is... until about 70% in. I love spice but really looking for more plot there. Overall the book I would definitely recommend. Its a great read.
This book had me glued to it from page one! (Seriously I finished it in two sittings it’s that good)
The twists and turns this book takes you on will have sitting on the edge of your seat the whole time!
The FMC is Jacq, a detective that is currently working on a case of multiple bodies popping up that all have the same thing in common. They nasty… (seriously bad)
It’s Jacq’s job to figure out who is doing this and the only way to find out is going undercover to where all of these “victims” come from. AA meetings.
There she finds Lyssa, the AA Counselor, who she takes a liking too very quickly.
Now Jacq is fighting her love life and this criminal on the loose.
Is love worth it? Are dirty secrets worth sharing? Will Jacq and Lyssa survive the trauma they share?
I know… but there’s only one way for you too find out. Seriously read the book! (You won’t regret it)
Yes…. Yes I did finish this book in one setting. I did have to adult in between work and home but I couldn’t put it down. If you LOVE a dark sapphic thriller romance, then this is a must read for you! It has twists and turns, which every thriller book needs. It will have you guessing and then guessing again.
❤️🔥❤️🔥 - Plot. Overall the plot is top notch. You have everything you need from character and surrounding descriptions to twists and turns within themselves. I don’t want to give any details away. I do ask that you check your triggers! Please and thank you.
❤️🔥❤️🔥 - Characters. You have a yourself a strong, grumpy FMC. Her name is Jacq, she is a detective. Then you have Lyssa, your sunshine FMC. Their relationship and growth is what every love story should be.
❤️🔥 - Spice. The spice be spicing. If you don’t like a lot of spice than *sticks out tongue*. It fits perfect in this book. It shows you the dynamic of the relationship between Jacq and Lyssa. The spice helps connect the pieces in the plot as well.
DiCredico did a wonderful job handling sensitive topics, and did it in a way that kept you pulled in and interested in the plot. Her descriptives are juicy, and she has a knack for making you want more. Great job, DiCredico.
This story started and ended very strong. I liked the story they were following but I wish it had just a bit more of that than the extra spicy scenes. overall i did enjoy the book though
