About the author

Anne Elaine Schraff grew up in Cleveland, Ohio. She received both her bachelor's and master's degrees from California State University at Northridge and taught high school for ten years.

Anne paid her way through college by writing short stories for magazines. Since college she has written hundreds of stories and over eighty books including historical fiction, biographies, science books, and her favorite, fictional books for young people. She is published as both Anne Schraff and Anne E. Schraff.

Her background, which she describes as "multicultural, lower middle-class neighborhood, including African Americans, Mexican Americans, Arab Americans, and Filipino Americans," is her greatest inspiration when writing.

Ketika ibunya menjalin hubungan dengan seorang pria setelah ayahnya meninggal, Shane merasa cemburu. Namun bukan hanya kecemburuan itu yang membuatnya berbuat 'aneh' seperti mengorek masa lalu pria tersebut. Shane, sebagai anak laki-laki, merasa bertanggung jawab atas seluruh keluarganya. Dan pria bernama Bud tersebut tidak seperti pria lain. Bud terlihat palsu dan Shane bisa melihatnya. Pertanyaannya adalah, kenapa ibunya tidak bisa melihat hal tersebut?

Bud memang tampak manis di depan ibu dan saudara perempuannya, Kim. Tapi Shane melihat sesuatu yang tersembunyi dibalik kebaikannya. Semakin lama Shane semakin gerah dan tidak tahan untuk berdiam diri melihat ibunya makin terlihat lengket dengan Bud. Apalagi setelah Shane mendengar berita miring tentang Bud.

Shane menyelidiki masa lalu Bud, dan terbongkarlah yang selama ini Bud sembunyikan. Dia hanya menginginkan harta dari wanita yang dikencaninya. Berbagai cara Bud lakukan untuk mendekati wanita-wanita kaya tersebut, dan jika Bud sudah bosan, setelah menikah dan mendapatkan harta mereka, Bud tidak segan-segan membunuh wanita tersebut.

Shane harus menghentikan pernikahan ibunya dengan Bud. Tapi ketika Shane pulang ke rumah, mereka sudah on the way ke Vegas. Shane semakin giat mengumpulkan barang bukti untuk menjatuhkan Bud dengan harapan setelah ibunya tahu siapa sebenarnya pria yang dinikahinya itu, ibunya akan membatalkan pernikahan mereka.

Sepulangnya mereka dari Vegas, Shane mengkonfrontasi Bud dan ketika Bud mencoba bermanis lidah, polisi datang dan menangkapnya. Sekutu Bud di masa lalu, telah membongkar rahasianya ke polisi, dan pernikahan Bud dengan ibunya di-ba-tal-kan.

Cerita yang simple, tapi cerita misteri ini membuat penasaran ingin terus membalik halamannya dan gak mo berenti sebelum selesai.

This book is about greed and deception. It illustrates the importance of family. Plus, it highlights the dangers of love. Shane' lives his life and loves one of his classmates. His family wants him to have her. While another family wants money and will do anything to get it. Even to kill love ones.

The main character is Shane, who is a fourteen year old boy. Burnette is the antagonist. He kills his wife to get life insurance money. He wants to receive the maximum amount of money from his wife’s insurance.

Set in a middle-class town in New York suburb. Book is a mystery about one happy family. They love spending time together. They make everyone around them happy. Another family dislikes each other.

Ages that should read this book 14-17. I like this book a lot because it makes me understand the power of money. Many people want to live a wealthy lifestyle and are willing to kill to have it. I think the author did very good job in writing this story, I would not change anything in this story. If you are interested in finding out if it is a happy or unhappy ending, I suggest you read this book.

This is a book written for teens. I read it because it was one of the newer books in the school's LMC. This is the first time reading this author. For me the book was a very easy read. I read it in less than 30 minutes. The storyline was good. The main character was a teenager who had lost his father (a fighter pilot) a few years earlier. Now his mother was dated someone that he didn't like. The character, Shane, starts 'checking up' on the man that he doesn't trust.

The book would be a good read for teens.
