Every kingdom sends its chosen. Not all of them return.
Once each year, the Longest Night falls. Champions from across the Ten Kingdoms enter the Veil. They go to claim the animal companions that will bind their power, define their fate, and secure their kingdom’s future. What happens inside the Veil is unknown. Those who survive emerge changed. Those who fail are never seen again.
Liam O’Brien was never meant to be one of them.
Bonded to a wild wyvern through a forbidden, unstable tether, Liam is hunted by kings, claimed by sorcerers, and pulled toward a ritual built on secrets and lies. As witches whisper forgotten truths and rival kingdoms maneuver for power, Liam is forced to question everything he has been taught about Champions, the Veil, and the sorcerers who claim to guard it.
Because the Longest Night is not a test of strength. It is a reckoning.
And the Veil does not choose at random.

The Longest Night: A Tale of the Sorcerer Who Guards the Veil is a beautifully imagined fantasy steeped in atmosphere, magic, and quiet tension. The author crafts a world that feels ancient and alive, full of hidden dangers and secrets resting just beneath the surface. From the moment the Veil is introduced, there’s a sense of wonder mixed with foreboding that carries through the entire story. The sorcerer at the heart of the tale is a compelling character—reserved, powerful, and layered with emotional depth. Watching his duty, loneliness, and loyalty unfold adds richness to the narrative. The supporting cast and the lore surrounding the Veil help build a world that feels immersive without being overwhelming. The pacing does ebb and flow; a few sections move a bit slowly, especially where the worldbuilding takes center stage. But the strong writing, vivid descriptions, and emotional beats make the journey worthwhile. By the end, the story lands with a sense of quiet satisfaction and lingering mystery. Overall, it’s a captivating read for anyone who enjoys dark fantasy, ancient magic, and character‑driven storytelling.

I seriously like the concept and the world building. There's something in this world- the rough weather, the politics, the bonding between a human boy named Liam and a dangerous beast or wyvern named Ruki and the brick-headed people who are trying to catch a bonded powerful beast. It really pulled me again and again to complete the read. What I felt the most bumping thing is the lack of editing or proofreading. There are few pesky mistakes of punctuation marks, missing letters etc. So I'd like to suggest the author to go through the book one last time. All in all, it's a great story. All the best to the author.
