This could have been a great novel if it stayed true to it's original premise, an alien pathogen hitting earth. So many complex, interesting plot lines could have kept us on edge of our seats. Instead author switched to lame roll your eyes nonsense trying to bring in "action". The Roman character and subplots were just awful and roll your eyes to the max come on man - can everyone be so dumb. Waste of a good concept with silly plots. Second half one star.
I got from terror to fear, and from fear to tears. Also, from love to the protagonist to hate for the treasonous second personage. What I didn't like completely was the final scene. I would like to make to smithereens the pseudo scientific private company which took the batton of the project to battle the xenophage using the know how of the previous scientists reduced to the protagonist and the only person who was resistant to the would-be extra terrestrial virus. All in all, thank you Mr. Falk.
Not a bad book, the story is a bit similar to the Andromeda Strain by Michael Crichton but for a less mature audience, this reads like a teenager book. By the end, I was rooting for the bad guy as the rest were just a bunch of goodie two shoe. The science in the book is laughable, but I do not see it as a deal breaker, the tension and group dynamics are what holds the story together.
Xenophage is an excellent sci-fi thriller about a microorganism, not from earth, that causes an uncontrollable outbreak in rural Alaska. The book is simply exceptional. The writing is first class, with great narrative quality, great characters, a great plot, great dialogue and an outstanding plot. 5/5 stars, highly recommended for any fans of sci-fi thrillers and thrillers in general!
This is a very plausible story of a "virus" that is brought to earth by a meteor. The character development is solid and the story moves at a very good pace. The questions of an intelligence within and behind the virus was a very interesting. This was good read. I will be looking for more works by the author. This did hit many of themes from the Andromeda Strain
Best sci-fi book, or any genre of book, I've read in quite awhile. Nice flow and truly impressive scientific detail that must have required a lot of research to make it as believable as possible. A little too much science-speak around the midway point of the book but overall a great read that I had a hard time putting down. First time I've read anything by Falk but I plan to seek out more of his books.
I’ve only dabbled in T.S. Falk but this was enjoyable and kept me enthralled until I finished. The summary pretty much tells you about the book. This was a nice change from my usual fare. Sorry, but there a few typos (Diame instead of Diane) but not overly glaring enough to take you out of the scene (as many can). I’ll definitely be looking into more Falk fiction.
Great stand alone novel. Well written, with a well developed story. Only a few times did I feel it fell off, which frankly is a rarity. For a stand alone, the character development was outstanding. Additionally the story reads quickly and you feel a need to find out what happens next.
I enjoyed this so much i immediately checked for a sequel when I had finished it. too bad there isn't I would have immediately bought it and contine reading. there were a couple sentences that were very awkward but nothing that ruined the book. Great characters that felt quite realistic. if you enjoyed the Andromeda Strain you will most definitely enjoy this one.
For the dilemma of this book posits Has horrifying ramifications. It is unlikely, but it could possibly happen, or at least something like this. We would hope that people would act in good faith in such a case, but we never know what a person's going to do under pressure. There Is a long history of people being traitors.
a decent, fast paced book, but with serious detail flaws
Let me get this out right away - how did the nerve gas/toxin only affect one person? I had a hard time getting past that point. Also, TS Falk, do your research about ranks in the military…an embarrassing gaff. Overall a decent book…but poorly executed.
A sci fi, medical, thriller with some terrific characters, a lot of anxiety, science, virus- bug-organism thing and some hateful bad guys. Everything you need in a story to draw you in and keep you plastered to your seat until the end. Very satisfying read.
Well worth reading. A fun ride. And yes people are that good and that evil.
Two tiny niggles. Americans don’t have flats. They have apartments. Army Ranks easy to look up. Don’t have Lt Commanders. That’s a Navy tank. Easy to fix these mistakes.
If you're a sci-fi enthusiastic this books for you. Captured me from page one. Hard to put down. Great scientific reference, storyline and outcome. A must read you won't regret.
As a scientist myself, I tend to either be amused or frustrated when the science is wrong. The science is spot on! And the story line is stay up late to finish. A great read!
Excellent start and character interactions but as it progressed I couldn't help but think of scenes from various Crichton movies as well as a plot device from Pandorum. Still, worth a quick read with an ever narrowing squint as you go.
This is a very interesting story that has some rather intriguing ideas. Imagine what a deadly organism from beyond the solar system would be like and what havoc it could cause.
Loved this book. Good science, complex plot, interesting characters, believable. Nice ending. I read a book a week, and this stands out to me…I’ll remember it.
