Used for years by individuals, grief counselors, and support groups, Roses in December has helped readers understand the grieving process, support family members, give insight into sibling grief, and maintain their marriages during difficult times. This newly revised edition offers the same compassion and encouragement plus chapters on losing loved ones under special circumstances, such as suicide and AIDS. With deep empathy, Marilyn helps those who are grieving find Godâ s comfort. Having lost three sons, she knows the tremendous sorrows and struggles that come with the death of loved ones. Yet she shares how even in the winters of our lives God provides rosesâ special occasions, special people, and special memoriesâ to give us strength and draw close to Him.
I finished this book last year. Another GM gave me this book right after my sons accident. I'm so grateful she did. I think this is a very good read for parents who are going through grief. At the time it was one of the better books I had read on grieving. I like to read and learn about people who have grown from tragedy to triumph and she did this with her son Nathan. Grief is not something you just get over, it is something you live with but that is not necessary a bad thing. Grief can turn to joy and help many many others as she did in this book to those of us who have read it.
I believe this is the fourth book I've read on grief. My daughter passed away 2 months ago. This book got put in my hands at the right time. It has brought so much comfort to me. It was written by a mother who had lost three of her sons. Because of her loss, she was able to write words that were such a balm to my broken heart.
To anyone who has lost a loved one, I urge you to read this book. The advice and wisdom from this author helped me work through more grief from my grandfather’s death in a tender, understanding way. She also gives helpful tips on how to support those who are grieving the loss of a loved one.
The rose in December is about getting rid of grief and getting your December rose.A lady named Marilyn Heavilin trys to get rid of all her grief becasuse she lost three of her sons.First it was Jimmy he died of crib death at 7 weeks old.Less then a year later 10 day old Ethan died of Pheumonia.17 years later his twin brother Nathan was killed in a head on collision. The victim of a drunk driver. This is one of the best books I have read because I lost someone I loved.I heartly recommend this to all that have lost a love one in there life.
LOVED IT! I think everyone should read this book. Friends of grieving parents would learn a great deal like what we need from our friends. Great lessons on what we are going through. How we feel. What we need. AND what NOT to say.
I have bought this book several times for friends and family members who have lost children. A thoughtful approach to one of the most painful situations any parent can endure. Grieving goes on forever, but words from someone who has gone through it can help.
I haven't lost a child, but grief is a lot the same no matter the relationship when it involves someone you love very much. I found the parent take on losing a child very interesting. I would recommend this book to grieving families.
