Two thousand years ago, King Triton witnessed the slaughter and total annihilation of his merchildren. He vowed then and there to never again father a child. Powerful and eternally youthful, Triton was no stranger to seduction. But his resolve was unwavering—until he met Nicole. Unable to resist the human woman, he found himself swept up in her arms. When he finally came to his senses, he abandoned her to return to his refuge in the sea.
Twenty years later, he comes face to face with his daughter. Triton is both thrilled and frightened to learn he's a father. Meeting the child he never knew fills a void in his life. But at the same time, he once again finds his heart at risk. Even more terrifying, he's forced to admit he's still in love with Nicole. Gathering his courage, he leaves the sea to seek her out. But the pain he caused is not easily forgotten. And mending broken hearts should be the least of his worries. The elements are in commotion, threatening the utter destruction of mankind. And much to the sea god's surprise, the human woman he loves may be the key to saving them all.
Holly Kelly is a wife, mother of six, author, editor, former English teacher, and daydreamer. Holly spent her childhood in a small town in Kansas reading, climbing trees, tumbling across her front yard, and swimming daily at the local pool where she spent her time pretending to be a mermaid.
When she was a young teen, she and her family moved to Texas (where she discovered how much she hated the heat), and then, during her senior year in high school, they moved to Utah. Despite living in the desert, Holly's fascination with the ocean grew. Before graduating from high school, she decided she wanted to be a marine biologist. This led to her attending college in Hawaii. She adored her time there swimming in the blue waters and studying the marine life, but missing her family had her returning to the mainland.
While attending college at BYU in Provo, Utah, she met and married karate teacher, James Kelly. Holly and James then welcomed six amazing children into their home. Between diaper changes and late-night feedings, Holly decided she wasn't tired enough. She began writing a novel, which she did between 3 and 6 AM every morning (before the kids woke up). Several years and four completed novels later, CTP Publishing offered her a contract to publish Rising, and the rest, they say, is history! Holly now has seven published novels, including the first book in a trilogy that released in September 2024. She also has several published short stories, all of which you can read on this website by clicking here.
Holly now spends her time writing young adult, paranormal books, freelance editing, and working on her master's degree in Creative Writing. Oh, and don't forget reading! She's always reading!
Avenging was so good! This series just keeps getting better and better and I absolutely love it!!
Okay, so this book is about King Triton and yes, I immediately fucking thought of The Little Mermaid. Heck, now I want to watch all of the movies!! Too bad I'm still at work. However, this book and character is not like the movie version- yet I still loved the shit out of this book.
Everyone who has been previously mentioned in books one and two is sort of here. IF they are alive and shit. Oh, and they are all teaming up because something big is coming. Obviously. Yet, all I really cared about was King Triton, Nicole, and Sara. King Triton wants the love of his life, Nicole, back. Which of course Nicole doesn't make anything easy for him. He walked away from her before so why shouldn't he do some damn groveling??
This book shoved so many twists and turns at me. I loved every second of hanging on the edge of my seat. The mermen are so god damn sexy and swoonworthy. I honestly can't wait to read the next book because I just want to know how this series is going to end.
Overall, this book and series is AMAZING. I loved everything about Triton and Nicole. I can't wait for some epic battle scenes in the next book. I pray that they are amazing.. I mean, if they are there. If not, I might be super sad.
I loved this book! The story of Triton and Nicole does not disappoint! It wasn't at all what I expected, IT WAS WAY BETTER! A must read! Can't wait for the next book!
I wish I could give this an unlimited number of stars. I LOVE THE SERIES. THIS IS AMAZING AND MIND BLOWING AND AGHHHH. I CAN'T WAIT FOR THE FOURTH BOOK TO COME OUT. I WANT TO KNOW WHAT WILL HAPPEN. WHY DID YOU DO THIS TO ME?!
This is one of my favorite book series. Avenging is the third book in the series and you really need to read the first two books before you read this one. The first book is actually free on Amazon right now! Yay!
Rising (The Rising Series Book 1) Descending (The Rising Series Book 2)
I know when I pick up one of these books I had better make sure I have time to read or I'm going to be frustrated when I have to put it down. It's so easy to get sucked into these books. There is constant action and forward progression, which I love. The mythology is woven right in seamlessly and I always feel that connection and interest in what I am reading. I also love the romance because I'm that kind of girl.
This book is focused on King Triton and believe me when I say he is nothing like the King Triton of The Little Mermaid. You can just look at the cover to know that. This book picks up right where the last book left off and all the characters in the previous books make an appearance in this book as well. They all have to work together to fight what's coming. Every book builds on the last and ooh boy, the next book is going to be big! Like, BIG, big. I can't wait!
One thing I always feel the need to mention is about the publisher, Clean Teen Publishing. They have this really cool rating system in place so you can see exactly what content you will find in each and every book they publish. "Because you deserve to know what you're reading." I think it's awesome. I was showing my husband when I started this book that there is a scan code at the beginning of the book. I just pulled out my phone and it took me right to the content rating page. He thought that was pretty cool. I do too. I wish every publisher did this. My thanks to Clean Teen Publishing for allowing me to read and review this book for them. ( I may or may not have begged them to let me review this book. . .)
You can read the full content disclosure for this book in the link above. There is some violence and paranormal creatures that are a bit disturbing. There are references to prior sexual involvement, but there is no sexual content other than kissing in this book.
There are too many series where the second and third book aren't nearly as interesting as the first. This isn't like that. I loved every book, and this one is my favorite so far. I knew once I picked up this book, I wouldn't be able to put it down, and I was right. What a ride! Holly's vivid imagination pulls together gods from a variety of sources and puts them all together in a unique way. If you haven't ever tried mermaid fiction, this is the series to read. I can't wait for the next book! Well done!
Another great story. I'm totally loving this series. I had never been interested in mermaid fiction until Holly Kelly's books. Looking forward to the next one.
This series has gone so much farther than just mercreatures. I love that we have this mythology and gods in the world as well. I enjoy how they all tie in together.
In this book we get a lot more into Sara's mother's story. We get to see what was causing the "craziness" that Sara spoke of in the first book. I was a bit shocked, to be honest! I'm glad that while we get more into Nicole's life in this book, we still have a lot of Xanthus and Sara, and Gretchen and Kyros too. I enjoy series where each book is about a certain set of characters, but we don't abandon the previous books' characters...they all end up weaving together to create this wonderful world and story.
I really like the way the author has taken some myths and legends and twisted them around to fit into her world and yet has kept the integrity of those myths and legends. I'm very eager to see how it all goes down in the 4th (and what I believe to be final?) book.
If you love Greek Mythology, mermaids, Gods and Goddesses, and epic battles of good vs. evil...you are going to love this series and especially this book!
Unlike the previous book I didn't know where this one was going. I thought it would have just been about them coming together after everything they went through with some problems along the way but I never thought it would be this intriguing and action packed!
At first I didn't like Nicole (if you saw my status updates you could confirm this) and I almost gave up on this book, but I didn't! Boy was I glad I finished this book!
Who would have thought that the simple love story that started in The Rising, #1 Rising would turn out to be the epic fantasy novel? I surely didn't. All the twists and turns, all the unsuspecting family ties? I was not prepared! Let me tell ya, I had to be scooping up my jaw a few times while reading this!
Now, as much as I would love to talk about the plot and all the cool things that happened (because Triton is so sexy and badass I just wanna squeeeee with joy), I can't because I want you guys to read it and be as surprised as I was with the direction in which the author took the story. I read some reviews and no one had spoilers so I had to read on and figure it out on my own.
But trust me it is so going to be worth it! Now if only book 4 was out already.... That cliff hanger left me in a tizzy!
Avenging is book #3 in the Rising Series and it's King Triton & Nicole Lamont's story which started many years ago. King Triton had met and fell in love with Nicole Lamont, a human. He left Nicole suddenly, went back to the sea and never returned, little knowing that he had left Nicole pregnant with their daughter, Sara. King Triton and Nicole have never stopped loving each other and he finally decides he wants a life with his love, Nicole. He leaves the sea in search and finds her. Needless to say he has a lot of groveling to do - she's still furious with him for leaving her so many years ago.
This is the best book so far-just blew my mind. There was so much action, intrigue, so many twists & turns and romance. Once you start reading this book, you won't want to put it down. Loved all the Greek Gods, Hawaiian Gods, finding unexpected family ties and of course all the sexy Mermen! I highly recommend this book and series-you'll fall in love with the Mermen!! I do recommend you read the books in order: The Rising-book #1 and Descending-book #2 - to acquaint you with all the fabulous characters that appear in the series! This book was a gift for an honest review.
4,5 PO prvých stranách som mala proste chuť zatvoriť knihu a nikdy sa k nej nevrátiť. Postavy to akosi všetko príliš rýchlo vyriešili. Až podozrivo rýchlo. Ale nakoniec som to vydržala a som rada. To, čo sa tam dialo potom, bolo proste... skvele vymyslené, to určite. Navyše to otvorilo dvere k ďalším príbehom. Zbožňujem, keď autor/ka dokáže využiť všetky známe legendy z mytológie a využiť ich vo svoj prospech. Toto domyslieť tu, toto domyslieť tam. Vzťahy medzi postavami boli akési príliš... jednoduché, ale dokážem autorke odpustiť aj to. Nejako divne to tam proste zapadalo. Vyzerá to dosť epicky.
What a great story, it had romance, adventure, intrigue, Greek Gods, Hawaiian God's and sexy mermen. My only complaint is the cliffhanger but I look forward to the next story. What a great ending. If you haven't read her other stories in the series check them out, but you can still read this one before. them. An interesting paranormal idea
Oh my gosh, I so loved this book. I get so swept up in the love story that I just can't stop reading. Tossing in sadly reality on how we are miss treating our earth is very heart warming because sadly most people don't get it and continue to hurt our earth. I am excited and can't wait for book four. Thank you........MUST READ
I quite enjoyed this book, the sneaky twists and turns make for a great plot. I love being able to read about a diverse range of creature and having the inclusion of a number of pantheons.
This was an excellent addition to the series and I'm looking very much forward to the next book.
OMG AVENGING is brilliant. I loved it... Holly Kellys imagination into this world of fantasy is amazing. All the new characters and the adventures they go on in this book is exciting. You are not going to want to miss this read....EPIC READ
Please tell me there is another book coming soon!!!! This was a excellent book and it can not end there. Do they get Nicoles father out? I need some answers. I recommend this book to everyone.
I think this has to be my favorite book of the whole series so far! I think I preferred having the story told from Sara and Gretchen before, but it was a nice change nonetheless to have it told from Nicole and Triton's. It's always a little weird to me to have a romance play out between the original character's parents but at the same time it was interesting to finally learn all the history. I love, love, LOVE Greek mythology and was very happy to see that there was even more in it in this book than the previous ones. It boggles my mind how Holly Kelly can connect the original story to the gods and the history that happened there. I love it!
What set this book apart for me was so much more coming together. It's a mystery to see how it all fits together, and the answers astounded me! I'm looking forward to the next book!
As the previous books, this was a very clean book. I am so grateful that I finally found another series that has a good story and characters without all the junk in it!
And here are some of my favorite quotes “Where did the beard come from?” Her voice scratched, and she could barely manage a whisper. He shook his head and cracked a smile that didn’t quite reach his eyes. “Of all the things you should be concerned about, facial hair is the most important? Huh?”
He was shocked at the sight in front of him. Within the midst of a lush, green forest, there was a wide expanse of sand, and two palm trees towering overhead. Four Dagonians stood stunned, and a fifth towered over a woman and her baby. With a sword in his hand, he seemed ready to battle. Triton suppressed a smile, making a mental note to remember to spend a little more time training on the finer details of translocation.
Gretchen’s appearance at the edge of the pond interrupted his words. She spotted Kyros and sprinted to him. He caught her in an embrace and swung her around before kissing her.
“The family tree keeps getting weirder and weirder. It’s more like a family banyan tree.” ~This reminds me of one of my favorite TV shows, Once Upon A Time
Epic! It deserves 1000 star review! Yes! Its that good. Triton, is honestly such a strong amazing character. He finally gets his wife back (Nicole) who turns out to be....A Goddess!!! Then we start to learn who Sara is, and Gretchen, and what a butthead Zeus is. We learn who the real King of the Gods is! This book to me, is the book that informs. you who is who and how they came about. Plus a certain god that is wrecking havoc finally gets whats coming! Thanks to a siphon and a certain sea God!!!
Wow! I knew that I was a fan of Sara for a reason. I thought that the last book in this series was adventure packed, but this one leaves that one looking tame in comparison. Just when you think you understand this world created by Holly Kelly, she throws in some major plot twists that shake everything up. I loved it!
Note: I was given a copy of this book by an acquaintance of the author. I’m pretty sure that’s not tainting my rating, since I loved this book, but I feel that I need to throw that out there for full disclosure.
haha, this book is the literary equivalent of fruit loops. Sweet and colourful, but with not much substance. Enjoyable like the first two, but not earth shattering.
This book released so many twists that I am....awestruck. The only way I know to review this book without giving anything away is to stay fairly technical, or just end it here. So, I will say, I found myself engrossed in the writing. Rarely does a book surprise me with its twists; this one did. The story held me captive and refused my freedom until the final word. And, I want the final installment!!!! There is action, danger, love, suspense, even death. I could not read fast enough to appease my brain! So much happens in this book that plummets everything together, and yet still fund a way to make me ask more questions. This is a great concept and you can tell that care and thought went into making this book. If you like books about mythology, gods, worlds coming to an end, then this series is for you. Well worth my time for the fantasy!
This is the 3rd Book of the Rising Series. I thought that this was the last book in the series but there's one more book coming out in April 2016. If my memory is a bit good the 4th book is going to be the final book of the Series. I love this books!!!! If anyone ask me which of the 3 books is my favorite I would not be able to answer that because I love each one of them. But to be completely honest I'm a bit sad with this book, and I'm going to tell you why.
