Haze is just tryin’ to keep her head above water, balancing clients, chaos, and a hustle that pays more in stress than stacks. She’s a home-based hairstylist with big dreams, bigger bills, and no time for men.
But when she stumbles on a dusty old lamp at a thrift store, thinking it’s just some cute vintage décor for her apartment, she accidentally unleashes a sexy, stubborn, savage genie by the name of Esco.
Esco has zero interest in serving anybody, especially not a woman like Haze who challenges him at every turn. But he pulls her into a world of dangerous magic, deadly secrets, and a bond neither of them asked for but might not survive without.
Jade Jones discovered her passion for creative writing in elementary school. Born in 1989, she began writing short stories and poetry as an outlet. Later on, as a teen, she led a troubled life which later resulted in her becoming a ward of the court. Jade fell in love with the art and used storytelling as a means of venting during her tumultuous times.
Aging out of the system two years later, she was thrust into the dismal world of homelessness. Desperate, and with limited income, Jade began dancing full time at the tender age of eighteen. It wasn't until Fall of 2008 when she finally caught her break after being accepted into Cleveland State University. There, Jade lived on campus and majored in Film and Television. Now, six years later, she flourishes from her childhood dream of becoming a bestselling author. Since then she has written the best-selling "Cameron" series.
Quite suitably, she uses her life's experiences to create captivating characters and story lines. Jade currently resides in Atlanta, Georgia. With no children, she spends her leisure shopping and traveling. She says that seeing new faces, meeting new people, and experiencing diverse cultures fuels her creativity. The stories are generated in her heart, the craft is practiced in her mind, and she expresses her passion through ink.
A genie, 3 wishes, and a wholllleeee lot of drama!
Whew… there is a LOT to unpack with this book—and I mean that in the best way possible.
This story comes with a whole slew of characters, multiple POVs, nonstop drama, and some truly wild moments. I’m not even gonna lie—I was this close to DNF’ing it 🤏🏾because a few scenes genuinely caught me off guard and turned my stomach a little bit. The trigger warnings did not prepare me the way I thought they would 😭
That said… I’m really glad I stuck it out.
Because buried under all that chaos is a really good story.
Think supernatural genie magic mixed with hood love and real-life messiness, and that’s exactly what you’re getting. The book is 70 chapters long, but honestly…Every chapter earns its place. Every character has something to say, something going on, and some form of drama that keeps the story moving.
The MFC, Haze, comes into possession of a lamp her mother buys from a thrift store only to discover that Esco is inside, ready to fulfill her every wish and desire. And baby… things spiral from there in the most entertaining way.
The spice is absolutely delectable (minus the scenes I mentioned earlier), and the drama is top-tier. This book does not let you get comfortable, and I kinda loved that about it.
By the end, I was fully invested. So invested that now I have to read book two because I’m nosy and emotionally attached. I need to know what happens next, and whether Esco and Haze get the happy ending I was rooting so hard for.
If you like messy, dramatic, supernatural romance that keeps you on your toes, this one is worth the ride….. buckle your seatbelt.
This book was urban, magical, comedy, and fantasy all wrapped into one and tied with a neat little bow. It’s the kind of story that pulls you straight into the culture—authentic, unapologetic, and full of moments that’ll have you clutching your pearls and then laughing right after. The plot twists? Whew. They’ll have you falling out, picking yourself back up, and turning the page like “okay, one more chapter.” Just when you think you know where it’s going, the story spins the block and surprises you all over again. If you love books packed with culture, humor, magic, and jaw-dropping moments that keep you hooked, this one is definitely a must-read. 💫📚
This is the first book by Jade Jones that I didn’t like. There were way too many unnecessary characters, and honestly, there wasn’t much of a plot. Even though Haze and Esco were into each other, I didn’t feel the romance at all. The story felt very all over the place, and because of that, I won’t be continuing with the second book.
On the other hand, her recent book *HEAVEN SENT ME A HERO* was truly amazing and beautifully written. I definitely recommend reading that one—it’s much better than this book. TRUST ME!!
Ms. Jones has done it again. I was drawn in from the beginning. It gave me the same intrigue as ‘Heaven Sent Me a Hood Hero’. The story had great characters and wasn’t overwhelming. I had to keep reading and couldn’t put it down. I loved Haze and Esco together, even his little nickname he game her. So many secrets and that mayor is trifling. And this ending… I can’t wait to see what comes next!
Omg this was such a good book . At first I didn't like how many characters I had to follow but so worth it. Unpopular opinion I didn't like haze . Yes she sent Esco away cause she was scared but the way he opened up to her about his parents and then she through it back in his face . Thats not love and I hate when ppl do that . But great read so many shocking moments.
(4/5) ⭐️ Haze was a solid FMC, Esco had me hooked, and the spice was VERY much giving 😌🔥. Too many POVs for my taste, but that ending was messy in the best way. I’ll definitely be back for part two.
Wow this story really took me by surprise. I love it thinking it was a whole story. Now I have to wait for part 2. I just hope that genie doesn’t work for that slimy mayor.
I was so excited to read this book just based on the title. It was not what I expected too much sneaking around too many people and their stories. I couldn't even finish the book.
Girllllllll this book made me loose a few pounds and pop a few eyelashes OFFFFF… Haze PMO real bad but that cliffhanger….girlllllll this book took me out!!
All I can say is one I’m mad at this cliff hanger!!!!!!!! Two from the moment I opened this book I was hooked because when I say the drama web is INSANE!!!!!!
