To be honest, I really enjoyed this book. Now, I will say there’s a lot of moving parts so if you’re not paying attention, it probably won’t make sense to you and honestly if you want it to make sense, you gotta dig deeper, use context clues, and make inferences. There is a very very VERY large family dynamic or should I say dynamicS, that may cause some confusion if you’re reading too fast or if you’re just reading on the surface level. This installment of the KC Queen‘s book gives urban thriller more than anything. Yes there are some romantic aspects because it’s primarily about the MMC Amethyst and the FMC Yale and their whirlwind romance. However, most of the stuff that Amethyst is trying to solve on behalf of Yale and her protection is way bigger than the two of them. Things were set into place before Amethyst knew Yale, and before they fell in love. Amethyst was impulsive, selfish, and he wouldn’t know a smart move if it jumped him in a dark alley. He swore up and down that what he was doing was his attempt to protect Yale. I understood that he meant well however, he hardly ever listen to the advice given around him, which, in my opinion made things a lot more worse. By the time he actually started to listen it was damn near too late. Regardless, however he decided to moved there were always going to be bigger players behind the scenes. As stressful as it was, I really liked how every time I turned the page another bomb was being dropped. Although the end of the book left me with some questions, I enjoy Aubry J’s style of writing in a sense that if you’re nosy enough, you’re gonna come back for the next book to figure out what else is bound to unfold. It got to a point that Amethyst and Yale kind of fell to the back burner for me and I was more curious about how the other families were wrapped into this spiderweb of lies, schemes and deception. Can’t wait for the next installment! I hope/think (based on how the book ended) Corinthians and Four are up next. Hold on your edges, get your tissues and let the crash outs commence !
