Something Cursed by Belinda Campbell
This is the second book in the Something Wicked Duology.
I was lucky that I was reading the books immediately after each other so I got to stay in the world without a break. Thanks to Belinda for accepting me as an ARC reader and giving the option to read book 1 as well.
In the first book Daryl finds out she’s part of a magical family and there is a curse relating to her grandmother and great aunt. At the end of the book the immediate danger has been managed for now but there is still the curse to completely deal with. While she tries to figure out how to solve the curse and adjust to magic she goes back to “normal life” with school, a part-time job and missing her neighbour/friend/boyfriend? who has moved to America to be with family.
Daryl is feeling the pressure of the curse and managing her magic. She has found she slips between her real home and the shadow home that exists due to the curse. She is struggling at school as exams are coming up and with the need to solve the curse hanging over her, her focus has gone. At least she has made a friend at school Nina who also works at the local cafe with her.
Then one day she slips into the shadow home and the room that her great aunt occupies and has to admit to her it’s been a year she has been stuck there and that her great-aunt’s sister, her grandmother, has since passed away. This adds to her guilt and burden of solving the curse.
It’s not easy being a teenager, study for exams, being a social outcast and feeling the burden to solve a family curse while trying to learn how your magic works. How is she going to manage to do it all?
I enjoyed this duology, and the second book had twists that I was not expecting as the history of the characters who existed at the time of the curse being made were developed. It built the drama to the end and resolved the story well.

I absolutely loved the first book, but this second installment fell a little short for me. It’s still a solid read, but I found much of it repetitive — the recaps from book one felt like they took over the storyline at times.
That said, this is the second book in the duology, and it does work as a standalone, which is fantastic. It wraps up the series nicely, and fans of witchy reads will enjoy!
I’d definitely add it to your TBR.

I recieved an ARC of this book and what can I say except wow! It was a beautifully written ending to the Something Wicked Duology. All throughout this book it left me hungry for what came next and I couldn't wait to find out what happened. It wraps up all of the characters and their stories well and I am sad to know there wont be any more return trips to Hadley Manor. Overall definitely a 5 star read!
