"An Intriguing Fact Based Description of Alligators"

Author Emma Child has developed a marvelous, factual animal series, reflecting many details about different animals of which often readers are not aware. This guide to alligators is a good lesson for kids and adults as alligators are found in many warm fresh waters of our country. China also has their own species much smaller than those found in the U.S. In this guide, the alligator sometimes speaks for himself, giving you a few clues to help you come up with the answer. A Fact: Alligators can survive without eating for 2-3 years. Wow! Did you know that? I didn't! Also, they are large, can weigh 800 lbs. and be 13 ft. long, and a few are even larger! Yet Chinese alligators are smaller weighing in at around 100 lbs. and 7 ft. long. Alligators move slowly on land, but are speedy swimmers, so make sure there are none around where you swim. They are not friendly, but not as aggressive as crocodiles. Besides, alligators like to live in goopy, soupy, yucky swamps, so you wouldn't like to swim there anyway. Enjoy reading all about alligators and add this guide to your Amazing Animal Kingdom Series. It's educational and also a fun read with actual photographs which can be enlarged on your Kindle by double tapping the photo. Enjoy! I did!

All you ever wanted to know about alligators in thirty pages, part of the nonfiction amazing animal adventures. The author begins by talking about the physical characteristics. Those amazing jaws have up to 80 teeth at one time, which wear out pretty quickly. Chaud describes what alligators eat, how they hunt, and who hunts them. She discusses how they reproduce, what their families are like, and their dinosaur ancestors. She does not fail to explain the differences between alligators and crocodiles. Nice summary of fun facts at the end of the book. One especially nice feature in this kindle edition is the double tapping to enlarge the interesting photos.

This book will appeal to students in the early elementary grades who are budding scientists interested in reptiles. Good starting point for a science project. Readers should take a look at other books in this series by this author..

I think this book was pretty informative and Emma Child gets you excited about learning. I would give this book 5 stars, but I am only going to give it 4. It is very hard to find books about dinosaurs, sharks, alligators, and crocodiles, without at some point in the book, there being mention of evolution. I read the shark book by Emma Child and was very excited that there was no evolution mentioned in the book. All was going well until I was 64% into this book. Then there it is.

Because of the mention of evolution, and because I know it's not true, I will only give this book 4 stars. I would automatically give this book a 5 star review if evolution was taken out of the book altogether.

Emma Child has done an amazing service the whole Alligator species. She has delved deep to introduce you to the Alligator. This book was written for children, but I know a few adults who should read it. I live in Central Florida and there are lots of Alligators around where I live, which is he middle of the Ocala National Forest. We have tons of lakes and lots of swamps, which are where the gators live.
The pictures in this book are incredible. I am so glad I was not the photographer.
The facts in this book are not only interesting but educational.
I got my copy of the book from the author in exchange for my honest review

This book reveals some really great facts about gators and includes some great pictures... though some of the pics are small and a couple could be better quality you still get the idea that the text is trying to convey.
The facts are presented in an enthusiastic manner which helps the reader to get into it - and the book opens with some fun facts on the oldest living gator in the world - pretty cool. It even goes so far as to explain so major differences between crocodiles and alligators - educational and fun!

Reading Emma Child's animal book series is always a delight. Each book concentrates on one animal and there's always facts one doesn't know. She does a large amount of research obviously.

These facts are always presented in a breezy style aimed at the young ones and accompanied bya large number of photos.

Kids are sure to love this alligator book)they, along with distant cousins the dinosaurs, seem to fascinate children, both young and old. Like me.

Fun Facts About Alligators

This is a great book for kids. It has a lot of fun Facts presented in simple, easy to understand, bite sized chunks. Human bite sized, not alligator bite sized.

"Poke Sallet Annie, Gators Got Your Grannie."

Well, the gators MAY have gotten Annie's Grandma, but it's more likely some of her family cut her up and fed her to the gators. As this author points out, alligators are not typically as aggressive as their cousins - the crocodiles. Which is a good thing for those of us who live or visit in Florida, Louisiana, or southern Georgia, because alligators are plentiful and could cause a lot of damage.

Having seen many, many alligators in my day, I wondered if I would learn anything new from this book. I should have had more confidence in Ms. Child, since I've read all of her books and learned from every one of them. Her research is as outstanding as her ability to communicate information in a lively and entertaining way.

And there could be no more fascinating subject than these weird creatures who bring the Jurassic Age into the 21st century. How incredible that the numbers of male and female babies is determined by the temperature of the nest and that an animal without gills can stay underwater for up to two hours and that they can make so many different sounds. That must account for some of the scary noises that are reported in Southeastern swamps.

However, I must take exception to this author's claim that the American alligator grows up to 14 feet. In a state park on the eastern shore of the Okefenokie Swamp, I once saw a gator sunning itself on the banks of the swamp next to the visitors' center. He was so enormous that I thought at first that it must be a statue, then that the window I was looking through must be a magnifying glass. The park employees swore that he was 22 feet long and I believed them. Even if I hadn't, I wouldn't have been tempted to get a tape measure and see for myself!

All the books in this series are excellent, but this one is a knock-out.
