He found me during the best time of my life.
Okay, it wasn’t exactly the best time of my life. I was on the side of the road, a flat tire on my truck, but I digress…

He was the man I never saw coming.
Which explains why I aimed my pepper spray at him when he approached. Honestly, a girl can never be too careful, especially when her daughter’s involved. Still…

He was everywhere in my new hometown.
No, he wasn’t a stalker. Just my knight in denim-clad armor, full of Southern charm and rugged good looks…he even called me ma’am.

And, when it mattered most, Cameron Brown was there on the worst day of my life. But will my pain bring back the trauma of his past?

What an exceptional, emotional debut from K.H. Oakes.
My god, when I started reading this story, I definitely did not expect a sea of tears.

Although I'm not a big fan of sweet stories, this one is certainly not just that.
A story about second chances, struggle with loss and parenthood, and love that appears when we least expect it.

Rosalie, a newly licensed veterinarian, moves far away from her family with her young daughter, ready for a fresh start. On the way, she accidentally met Cam, a handsome stranger with helpful hands. I love their first meeting, a real meet-cute.

"Where the hell did I find a woman like you?"
"Where men find all the best women... on the side of the road."

Cameron is a single dad, widower, charmed by Rosalie at first sight.
When the unthinkable happens and Rosalie suffers an irreparable loss, Cam is there for her. He helps her with his experience, understanding and endless love.
And the secondary characters are great, full of support.
I like them all and can't wait for the next book!

What you can expect:
♡ small town
♡ single parents
♡ hurt/comfort
♡ friends to lovers
♡ slow burn
♡ found family
♡ healing after loss

Before you start reading, please check out the triggers.

*I voluntarily read and reviewed a free advance copy. Thank you to the author and The Author Agency. All opinions are my own and given freely.

"You are no one's burden, Rosalie Whittington. You are absolutely someone's privilege and honor."

Beyond the Pages is the debut book from K.H. Oakes and she came out swinging. Small town romance at its best! Rosalie has just graduated from vet school and is all set to move with her daughter Paige. They are leaving her family and everything they've ever known behind. But what Rosalie doesn't expect is to have a meet cute before she even arrives to her new home, all caused by a flat tire.

Cameron, meanwhile is the man that happens upon Rosalie and her flat tire. Their spark is immediate and their banter is on point. If this was just the meet cute, I couldn't wait to see where this story was going to take us. Because I was already smiling from ear to ear from just a small moment.

I loved the feel of this book right from the start. It had that wholesome, feel-good vibes that one looks for in a small town romance. From the supporting characters right on up to the swoony, single parent MCs, I was invested in not only their connection, but the potential relationship between their daughters. Cam and Rosie had this immediate banter and chemistry that was just so sweet and electrifying. That is, until the unthinkable happens and we get to see Cam in a whole new role. To provide comfort and support in Rosalie's time of grief and loss.

"You don't have to do that-don't diminish the magnitude of your loss to protect my feelings or anyone else's. I know what it's like to lose someone you love. Even if I didn't, I want more than anything to be your safe space, the person you rely on when you need someone to hear you, to hold you, to love you. I promise I'll always be that person without judgment."

From the giddiness of the beginning to the weightiness of the middle to end of the book, Oakes gave it all to us. One minute you're laughing and fanning yourself and the next minute tears are dripping from your eyes. The emotions are huge and will have you grasping at your heart. I loved the way Oakes intertwined some pretty special letters into her story, all while having a relationship grow between Rosalie and Cam, as well as between their daughters, Paige and Addie. It was pure and sweet with a side of steam. And it all came together seamlessly.

All I have to say is......Well, K.H. Oakes, you did the damn thing! You wrote your debut book that brought me to laughs, to tears and right back again. The banter and love these two single parents had for one another was just so heartwarming, even in the painful moments. But the love they had for each other and their daughters was proven time and time again. A story of friendship, of love, of loss, of grief, of trust and finding the happy moments in between will have you remembering this story long after you've finished.

If you're a fan of the small town romances of Laura Pavlov and Willow Aster, then this book is for you. And if you like:
Single ParentS
Small Town
Slow Burn
Friends to Lovers
Healing After Loss
Electric Banter
Horse Loving Daughters
Letters

.....then please give this book a go. It will have you laughing one minute and crying the next. All the emotions packed into one wonderfully written debut book. And now I can't wait for a certain BIL's story. ;)

If I could give this book a million stars, I would. This story is absolutely heart-healingly (I know this isn't a word but for this story it absolutely should be) beautiful. Rosalie is a single mom to a 7 year old daughter. She is moving to a new state to take on her dream job that she was able to achieve because of her mom and dad helping her raise her little girl and supporting her and cheering her own through college. Cameron is a widower and single father to a 7 year old daughter. They have a meet cute in her way into the town she is moving to and he is instantly hooked on her. After a tragedy in Rosalie's life he shows up for her and through the grief they find love.

This book resignated so much with me on a personal level and I devoured every word and honestly, found myself inside these pages and it helped me heal a little more through these words.

I hope you will take the time to grab this book and read Rosalie and Cameron's story because I can't recommend it enough.

Thank you so much to K.H. Oakes and The Author Agency for the gift of this ARC because it was an absolute joy to read it.

The meet cute: perfect.

The chemistry: undeniable.

The tension: thick.

The flirty banter: completely on point.

This is such a sweet small-town, single-parent romance. The setting feels warm and cozy, and the characters are incredibly easy to fall in love with.

Reading this while being six months out from my own loss hit a little harder than I expected, but it also made Rosalie’s journey feel even more meaningful to me. Her grief and the way she copes with it felt thoughtfully written and handled with a lot of care. The letters were such a beautiful touch and added another layer of emotion to the story.

Cameron was such a standout MMC for me. I love how bold and confident he is, while still having a lot of humility. He’s flirty, open with his feelings, and doesn’t hold much back which made his interactions with Rosalie so fun to read. Because of his own past, he’s able to truly understand her pain and help her move forward in a way that feels natural and supportive.

Rosalie and Cameron together are incredibly sweet. Their connection feels genuine, and I loved watching their relationship grow. While I did find myself wishing for a little more conflict within their relationship to amp things up a little, it was also refreshing to read a romance that didn’t rely on a dramatic third-act breakup. Instead, they consistently chose each other, which made their love feel even stronger.

Overall, this was such a heartfelt story filled with lovable characters and a cozy small-town atmosphere. Some of the side characters, especially Beck and Elodie definitely caught my attention, and I’d love to see more of their story in the future. And the epilogue was absolutely adorable.

What a sweet debut by KH Oakes! This is a debut novel by KH Oakes and I am already in love with the adorable town of Winhaven!

𝑪𝒉𝒂𝒓𝒂𝒄𝒕𝒆𝒓 𝑵𝒂𝒎𝒆𝒔: Cameron Brown & Rosalie Whittington with Paige and Addison
𝑺𝒆𝒕𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒈: Winhaven, Kentucky

While most of this story might make you think sweet love, easy low angst kinda low, it will also make you feel emotions that you never saw coming. Cameron and Rosalie meet on the side of the road and their story just gets more and more interesting from there. I loved the natural progression of the relationship between these two.

Rosalie and her daughter come to town looking to start fresh and with a brand new job. She has an instant connection with Cameron who is a single father after losing his wife This makes him the perfect person to comfort Rosalie when her world comes crashing down. There is a lot of hurt/comfort vibes in this one with heavy mention of grief. It is clear that the author put all of herself into the writing. These moments were raw and vulnerable and could only come from someone who has experienced it herself. Also, Paige and Addison were the cutest freakin kids, I enjoyed them so much.

From the very first meet-cute (pepper spray and all 😄), this story pulled me in and held on tight. What starts as a slightly chaotic roadside encounter blossoms into a deeply emotional, tender, and beautifully layered romance that completely stole my heart.

Rosalie and Cameron are the kind of couple that just fits.
Their chemistry is instant, their banter is playful and effortless, and their connection grows in a way that feels so natural you almost forget you’re reading and not just… watching two people fall in love in real time.

Cameron? Certified book boyfriend material.
He’s bold, confident, flirty, and full of that irresistible Southern charm, but what made me love him most was his emotional openness. He doesn’t hide how he feels, and because of his own past, he meets Rosalie’s pain with understanding, patience, and so much quiet strength. The way he shows up for her, especially when it matters most, was everything.

But what truly makes this story shine is how beautifully grief is portrayed.

Rosalie’s journey through loss is written with such care, tenderness, and authenticity. It doesn’t feel rushed or glossed over. Instead, it’s given space to breathe, to hurt, and to heal. The story doesn’t try to “fix” her grief. It honours it. It shows how it lingers in the quiet moments, how it reshapes you, and how moving forward doesn’t mean letting go.

And the letters… wow.
They added such a powerful emotional layer, almost like echoes of love that refuse to fade. Each one felt intimate and meaningful, deepening Rosalie’s journey and making her healing feel even more personal and real.

Reading this while being six months out from my own loss made it hit even harder. There’s something incredibly comforting about seeing grief represented in a way that feels honest but also hopeful. It reminded me that healing isn’t about forgetting, it’s about learning how to carry love forward.

The small-town setting adds this cozy, welcoming backdrop that makes everything feel even more intimate, and the side characters (Beck 👀 and Elodie!) definitely caught my attention. I would love to see more of their story.

I also really appreciated that this romance didn’t rely on unnecessary drama. No forced third-act breakup, no chaos for the sake of it. Instead, Rosalie and Cameron consistently choose each other, and that steady, intentional love made their relationship feel even more meaningful and strong.

And that epilogue? Pure sweetness. The kind that leaves you smiling long after you’ve turned the last page.

If you love:

Small-town romances with cozy vibes
Single-parent love stories
Emotionally open, supportive heroes
Stories that handle grief with care and authenticity

Then this one will absolutely find its way into your heart 📖💕

⭐⭐️⭐️⭐️✨
A heartfelt, healing, and beautifully written romance that reminds you love can grow even in the spaces touched by loss.

went into this thinking “cute small-town romance” and came out emotionally ATTACHED to these characters like they personally pay my bills 😭💛

Beyond the Pages is soft and swoony but also packs that quiet emotional punch that sneaks up on you and suddenly you’re sitting there like… why am I crying over a man in denim calling someone “ma’am”??!!

Rosalie?? Immediately loved her. Single mom, protective, a little guarded (as she should be because HELLO pepper spray introduction 😂), just trying to build something steady for her and her daughter. There’s this strength in her that isn’t loud, it’s just… constant. You can feel how much she carries and how carefully she moves through the world because of it.

And then Cameron Brown walks in like some kind of Southern fairytale but make it REAL.

This man. THIS MAN. Denim-clad, respectful, patient, steady… the kind of guy who doesn’t just show up once, he keeps showing up. Not in a flashy, over-the-top way, but in those small, meaningful moments that end up meaning everything. The “ma’am”? I folded. Gone. Done. Take my heart, sir.

What I loved most is how their relationship builds. It’s not rushed or overly dramatic. It’s these little threads of trust, kindness, and understanding weaving together until suddenly it’s something solid and unbreakable. And the way he is with her daughter?? I was MELTING. Fully melted puddle on the floor.

But don’t get it twisted, this isn’t just fluffy. There’s real pain here. Both of them are carrying things from their past, and when life hits Rosalie again in the worst way?? Cameron doesn’t run. He steps up. And you can feel the weight of that, especially knowing he has his own trauma that could’ve made him shut down instead.

The emotional moments hit HARD because they feel earned. Nothing is easy, but everything feels worth it.

And the small-town vibes?? Immaculate. That feeling of everyone knowing everyone, of roots being planted whether you meant to or not, of finding home in people rather than places… it wraps around the story like a warm hug.

Rosalie and Cameron together just WORK. They’re soft where the other is hurting, strong where the other is breaking, and the way they choose each other over and over again?? I can’t.

Five stars without hesitation. This one felt like coming home, like healing in slow motion, like love that doesn’t need to shout to be powerful.

I’m obsessed. I’m emotional. And I would absolutely let Cameron Brown fix my flat tire any day 😌🚗💛

From the very first meet-cute, I was hooked. Everything just clicked- the chemistry, the tension, the effortless, flirty back-and-forth. It’s the kind of romance that pulls you in quietly and then suddenly you’re completely invested. I found myself laughing out loud at things Paige said and I found my self tearing up because I’ve been in Rosalie’s shoes with the death of her mom.

At its heart, this is a tender small-town, single-parent love story wrapped in warmth and emotional depth. The setting feels like a place you could step into—cozy, familiar, and full of heart—and the characters? Impossible not to fall for.

Rosalie immediately stood out to me. She’s strong in that quiet, steady way—the kind of strength that doesn’t need to be loud to be powerful. She’s carrying grief, responsibility, and the weight of trying to build a stable life for her daughter, and every bit of that feels real and thoughtfully portrayed. Her journey hit especially deep, and the way her emotions were handled—with care and nuance—made it all the more impactful. The added touch of the letters brought such a beautiful layer of meaning to her story.

And then there’s Cameron.

Confident but grounded. Open-hearted but never overwhelming. He’s the kind of man who shows up—not just once, but consistently, in all the small ways that matter most. There’s something incredibly comforting about him. He listens, he understands, and he meets Rosalie exactly where she is. Watching him support her, while carrying his own past, made his character feel even more genuine and layered.

Together, Rosalie and Cameron just work. Their relationship builds naturally—no rush, no unnecessary drama—just trust, patience, and quiet moments that slowly turn into something unshakable. It’s refreshing to see a romance that doesn’t rely on forced conflict or a dramatic breakup, but instead focuses on choosing each other again and again.

The emotional moments land hard—not because they’re exaggerated, but because they’re earned. There’s real pain here, real healing, and ultimately, a sense of hope that lingers long after the final page.

This story feels like coming home. Like healing in slow, quiet steps. Like a love that doesn’t need grand gestures to prove its strength.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ without hesitation.

And yes… I would absolutely let Cameron handle my flat tire any day. 🚗💛

Rosalie, a single mom, takes a chance following the completion of veterinarian school and decides to move across the country to Winhaven, Kentucky for a new job opportunity. After a long and draining road trip, she gets a flat tire 15 miles away from her destination...and Southern hospitality makes its presence known in the shape of hot and hunky Cameron Brown. Cameron is walking green flag of a knight in shining armor, immediately attracted to the stranded newcomer on the side of the road. After assisting Rosalie, Camerson slips her his phone number in a totally slick fashion; and even though she attempts to avoid distractions as she adjusts to her new home and job, fate keeps throwing Rosalie and Cameron together. When their seven year-old daughters become immediate friends, it is obvious that Rosale and Cameron couldn't avoid each other even if they tried. Just as a relationship begins to bloom, Rosalie receives some devastating news from home, forcing the couple into grief management and navigation through heavily emotional situations.

My favorite things about this book: This book does not read like a debut novel. It reads like KH Oakes is a seasoned writer, and this is at least her third or fourth book. It lacks the awkward paragraph transitions or storyline gaps you sometimes see in a new writer - it's very obvious that someone is a reader and has been paying attention to the style of some of the greats!

I laughed out loud several times. Rosalie's daughter Paige is a sassy little thing and highly entertaining. I'm pretty sure one of my favorite lines is Cameron commenting on getting c*ckblocked by a pizza delivery. Speaking of Cameron - hello sir, welcome to the 2026 book boyfriend list. We need more Cameron's in this world - good looking, supportive, understanding, patient, communicative - clone this man and set those clones loose on the booksta community. I also appreciate the grief management; both Rosalie and Cameron are in different stages of grief throughout the book, and it truly highlights how the grief process may gradually subside, but it never really ends. And last but not least - the setup for the second Winhaven book is well underway! The tension between Cameron's brother-in-law Beck and Rosalie's boss Elodie is potent, the perfect setup for an enemies-to-lovers storyline.

This book is DAMN GOOD and I’m so grateful I received an ARC copy. At times I was so engrossed I forgot I had real world responsibilities - I could not put it down. Definitely check it out!

(I received an ARC for this book)

Trigger Warnings include:
This book deals with grief from loss, and it plays a large part in the characters’ journey.
parental loss (including an explanation of the incident on page, no graphic detail), past loss of spouse (death not on page), mention of cancer/death (death not on page)

This is absolutely going on my ‘favorites of 2026’ list, and I know without a doubt I’m going to carry it with me for years to come. This had the comfort I love and crave from my small town romances, and it also packed the emotional punch I love being tortured with in all the best ways. The author did such a beautiful job bringing these characters to life. There’s a meet cute, a fresh start, adorable little girls, found family, southern charm, plenty of reasons to laugh, and all the emotions! Everyone important to them is part of the book, because they’re important to their story. I loved every second I got to spend with every single character. No matter how heavy things felt, it was still comforting. Like when the characters needed or gave comfort, I felt it too. Which was good, because I needed it! I was all in with Cameron and Rosalie instantly. Cameron, Rosalie, and their girls are going to stay with me for a very long time. I am really hoping that I’m right about the next couple in this series…but honestly, I will be ecstatic no matter what’s to come because I am excited about being back in Winhaven!

My Favorite Quotes:
• “You’re not alone in this, I’ve got you.”
• “You are absolutely someone’s privilege and honor.”
• “I want to be that person. Let me be that person.”
• “That’s exactly how I want you saying my name when you come apart on my tongue.”
• “I’m more than capable of making my own main course.”
• “Oh, baby, you never have to beg.”

Beyond the Pages by K.H. Oakes is an incredibly impressive debut that is emotional, heartfelt, and packed with all the feels. This small-town romance follows Rosalie, a devoted veterinarian and single mom, and Cameron, a charming single-dad accountant, as they navigate the complexities of healing and falling head over heels in love.

Their journey begins with a classic flat-tire "meet cute"—complete with Rosalie aiming pepper spray at her future knight in denim-clad armor—and evolves into a beautiful slow-burn story that made my heart so happy. I was deeply moved by the way Rosalie and Cameron found comfort in one another.

Rosalie’s determined spirit and the vulnerability she shows following a heartbreaking loss are truly admirable, while Cameron’s role as her steady, dreamy constant made me absolutely melt. Because they are both navigating the emotional toll of their pasts, they understand each other in ways no one else can.

Watching them support each other through their darkest days while their seven-year-old daughters, Paige and Addie, formed their own sweet friendship added a layer of warmth that kept me smiling throughout. This book has everything a romance lover could want: rugged Southern charm, horses, flirty banter, and heartfelt journals that lead to a deeply satisfying happy-ever-after.

The journey these two take to find true happiness and move forward from grief is both tugging at the heartstrings and incredibly life-affirming. If you enjoy intimate conversations, love declarations, and a supportive hero who gives his partner exactly what she needs, you will love Rosalie and Cameron’s story. I am already looking forward to seeing what K.H. Oakes writes next.

Beyond The Pages is a beautiful romance story that played out like a Hallmark movie in my mind!

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advance copy. Thank you to the author and The Author Agency. All opinions are my own and given freely.

This story starts with a fun meet cute as Rosalie arrives in town with her daughter in tow. A new grad, now fully licensed vet, she's left her family and home state to start her new career. What she's not expecting is to meet someone and feel such a strong connection so soon. And when the unimaginable happens, he's there for her every step of the way. Even if it brings up trauma from his past.

This romance story is heavy on sweet, and light on conflict. Their connection happens quick and is just easy from the get go. It focuses on not just their love story but being a parent. How you walk through those feelings, and time... while also navigating loss and grief-which is a predominant focus of the story. Cameron and Rosalie were great characters, if a bit too perfect. But you can't deny that they are just two kind souls meant to cross paths. I also liked how the author introduced us to such supportive side characters as well. I am particularly interested in Beck now-he's got jokes and is broody- just my type!

Overall, such a good debut. I especially loved the heartwarming epilogue. And teared up with the author's end note. I look forward to reading more from her in the future!

This story touches on subjects that could be triggering for some. The author has kindly listed them at the end of the book.

Beyond the Pages, written by K.H. Oaks, is book one in the Winhaven series. This is my first book by K.H. Oakes, and I look forward to reading many more. This is a sweet and swoon-worthy, small-town, single-parent romance. I believe this is her debut novel.

The story features Rosalie and Cameron. Rosalie is a single mom to a spunky daughter who has accepted a job as a veterinarian in Winhaven, Kentucky. She packs up her kiddo and moves her entire life to a small town. Only to blow a tire before getting there. When a handsome stranger stops to help, it is just the beginning of a beautiful friendship.

Whew Cameron. This man. I love a man who is present and puts in the work. He is reliable and consistent. He knows the small things matter the most. Oh, and when he threw down the “Ma’am,” I about lost it. Living here in the south, I hear it all the time, and it always makes my knees weak. He shows up for her when she needs him the most. Oh, did I also mention he is a single dad?

These two together are amazing. I loved watching their relationship just click and bloom. While this book is really upbeat and funny, there are moments that are heart-wrenching. Both Cameron and Rose must deal with grief and healing. K.H. Oaks, you had me in tears. The book is well written, and I would have never known this was her first book. Well done!!

Thanks to K.H. Oakes for gifting me an eARC of Beyond the Pages. I am leaving this review voluntarily. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Beyond the Pages by K.H. Oakes is such a stunning and emotional debut that truly took me by surprise in the best way. This story follows two single parents, both raising seven year olds, who are navigating their own journeys through grief and it was handled with so much care, depth, and authenticity.

What I loved most is how this book shows that grief doesn’t look the same for everyone. There’s no “right” way to heal, and this story beautifully captures that through both Rosalie and Cameron. Their connection starts with cautious moments and grows into a friendship and love that feels incredibly genuine and safe.

Cameron… whew. The contrast between his steady, dependable “accountant dad” side and the man he becomes behind closed doors? Let’s just say… I loved both versions. 😅 The spice was perfectly balanced, not overwhelming, but just enough to deepen their connection.

The way their families intertwine was so special. The foundation of love, support, and chosen family that builds around Rosalie is truly heartwarming and added so much depth to the story.

This book hit me on a personal level. I finished it on the anniversary of my father’s passing, and it just made the message resonate even more deeply. It’s the kind of story that reminds you that even in grief, you are not alone and that healing and love can exist side by side.

A beautiful, heartfelt, soul-healing romance with a perfect HEA. I will absolutely be reading more from this author.

First, I want to thank K.H. Oakes and The Author Agency for the gifted eARC in exchange for my honest and spoiler free review of Beyond The Pages, which is the first book in the Winhaven series.

My Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

My Thoughts:
K.H. Oakes is a brand new author to me so I jumped into Beyond The Pages without any sort of expectation and I’m so glad I did. This author made such a beautiful story about healing that made me invested in Rosalie and Cameron’s story.

What was really interesting in this story was that both of our main characters were single parents. Normally I only usually see one of the characters being a single mom or dad but the fact that this had both of them as single parents set a completely different tone to this story. Both characters had a lot of healing to do and I absolutely loved the way it played out. Seeing how Rosalie was starting out with a new job and a new home with her daughter and slowly gets acclimated to her new town and the very adorable little meet cute that she and Cameron had was definitely my favorite.

I feel like this book will bring a lot of comfort and hope to readers who may be in a similar situation as Rosalie and Cameron. It was such a feel good book that I was very honored to be able to read it. I am curious to see what happens as this series continues and can’t wait to return to Winhaven sometime soon.

“You are no one’s burden Rosalie Whittington. You are absolutely someone’s privilege and honor. Every part of you, the good and bad, mad or sad, and all the times in between, I’m asking you to let me be that someone” 😭

Thank you x a million to K.H. Oakes and The Author Agency for the chance to read this ARC. This review is all my own thoughts and feelings.

It’s taken me two days to properly formulate my thoughts to write this review. I went into Beyond the Pages blind, and I can honestly say this story did not go in the direction I thought it would. I started this book at 10pm, and when I finished the book it was almost 2am; and had me sliding into K.H’s DM’s at 2am to send all my babble because I couldn’t believe Beyond the Pages was her debut novel!

I devoured Rosalie and Cameron’s love story! When grief is written about, I need it to feel real and authentic in order for me to stay immersed in the story. Rosalie’s grief was messy, emotional, and life altering (as grief is), and reading how she and Cam worked through it together, wow. I loved that it wasn’t glossed over, and having Cameron’s family and their own grief mixed in really showed the depth in which he had put the work in to be where he was.
His understanding, advice, and explanations were incredible and Roaslie’s interactions with certain family members (no spoilers) had me crying. The kids were perfection; they were adorable, funny and never felt like a forced or forgotten part of the story. Their interactions and building towards their end game was nothing short of a beautiful, tragic, love story and I think that’s what makes it relatable.
My favourite part of the story was the letters (especially the last letter, iykyk); I thought I had them figured out, and I ended up crying when I realized.
Grab your tissues and settle in for Rosalie and Cam’s love story! They will live rent free in my mind for the foreseeable future!

A breathtaking debut that delivers pure romance magic from beginning to end.

In her first foray into romance with Beyond the Pages, K.H. Oakes could not have asked for a stronger, more captivating start. This story is, quite simply, 100% pure romance heaven.

From the very first chapter, you’re drawn into a world filled with warmth, emotion, and a connection that feels both genuine and deeply moving. The story centres on two single parents, each navigating life, love, and second chances—made even more special by their two utterly adorable seven-year-old daughters who bring light, charm, and a touch of innocence to every scene they’re in.

Oakes balances heartfelt emotion with beautifully tender moments that will absolutely have you reaching for the tissues. There’s a sincerity to the storytelling that makes every interaction feel meaningful, every glance loaded, and every step toward love incredibly rewarding.

And then there’s our hero—completely swoon-worthy in all the right ways. Kind, devoted, and emotionally grounded, he’s the kind of character that romance readers fall for instantly. Watching these two guarded hearts slowly open up is nothing short of magical.

One of the most refreshing elements? No third-act breakup. Instead, Oakes gives us a story that stays true to its emotional core, keeping you wrapped in its spell from start to finish without unnecessary drama—just beautifully built romance, trust, and connection.

Beyond the Pages is a stunning debut that proves K.H. Oakes is an author to watch. If this is just the beginning, we are in for something truly special.

This is the author's debut novel. It's a great emotional story. Cameron and Rosalie pulled me right into this one. Their meet cute perfection. This is a fantastic small town romance. Cameron and Rosalie's daughters are adorable. How they became BBFs right away melted my heart. Then this book takes you on a roller coaster of emotions. There is one part that ripped my heart out. I felt for Rosalie and Paige. You could feel the devastation coming off the pages. I'm not gonna like one part of this book towards the end I had to take a break. I lost my grandparents a few years ago so I would have been feeling everything Rosalie was feeling in that moment. I had to take a breather because it was such a deep personal connection to this book in that moment. Then I continued on and I'm so glad I did because the words Cameron said to Rosalie after resonated with me so deeply. It made me pause and think that I do that every day myself without knowing it and it's keeping my grandparents still in the present. What Cameron said will forever stay with me. Then in the epilogue Cameron just steals my heart some more and making me cry at the same time. Best example of prime book boyfriend material. This is such a beautiful story with such heartfelt moments along with the more steamier ones. This author has definitely gained a reader.

Okay, I don’t even know where to start… but let’s start with K, you freaking did it. I’m so insanely happy for you. This book felt so perfectly you, filled with so much heart and humor.

From the very beginning, this story pulled me in with the cutest meet cute. I was giggling instantly. And Cameron’s “ma’am” had me rolling my eyes right along with Rosalie, but the way he kept using it just to push her buttons had me smiling every time.

“Remember, I believe in you.”

Beyond the Pages is a story of family, love, and grief, all woven together. It’s about navigating life after immense loss while still finding a way to move forward. Rosalie goes through so much while balancing change and showing up as a mom to Paige, and that part hit especially hard. Grief, especially losing a parent, is never easy, and you can truly feel how personal that journey is.

“You’re not alone in this, I’ve got you.”

And then there’s Cameron. Sweet, patient, and the ultimate golden retriever book boyfriend. He truly shows up for Rosalie in every way, and as a dad to Addison, he was everything.

This story is about choosing love and happiness even after heartbreak. I laughed, I cried, my chest ached, I felt it all. But what stood out the most was the love that carried through every page.

I also loved being introduced to the other characters. I’m already so excited and a little nervous for Beck’s book. I just know his story is going to hurt, and I need to know what happened with him and Elodie.

I hope you all pick up K’s debut and love it as much as I did.

K, I may not have known your mom, but knowing you, I know she would have been so proud of you for following your dreams. I love you my friend, and happy early birthday. I can’t wait to put this book on my shelf.

What to Expect:
Small Town
Single Mom & Single Dad
New to Town
Grief & Healing

Beyond the Pages might be K.H Oakes's debut, but the beautiful way Rosalie and Cameron's story plays out feels raw & real, but also warm & cozy at the same time. It was as if the author was meant to tell this story and did so in a wonderful way.

This book does deal with heavy subjects that could be considered triggering to some. The list is located in the back of the book for those who want to check.

After accepting a new job, Rosalie and her daughter are arriving to their new home when her truck tire goes flat. While she is changing out the tire, Cameron stops by and offers to help. What follows is a meet cute that gives way to a wonderful story about people supporting and finding comfort in each other. This rings especially true when Rosalie suffers a personal loss that upends her entire life, leaving her searching for a new normal.

This book might be light on conflict, but the story packs a heavy emotional punch that had me tearing up several times. The conversations around grief and healing were raw and real and I felt seen in these conversations. I especially loved how Cameron, who has had experience with this level of grief, helped be a support system to Rosalie. They may have had feelings originally before this event, but their time together and their shared experienced helped bond them and strengthen their feelings towards each other.

Overall this was a wonderful debut from KH, and I am excited to see where she will take the series next! There were some easter eggs dropped of some of the other characters that have me curious for more! Thank you so much to KH Oakes for the early copy of Beyond the Pages!

ARC REVIEW

"Remember, I believe in you."

"Honestly, who is this man, and how on earth did he come into my life at the exact moment I needed him?"

Beyond The Pages (The Winhaven Series Book 1)
By K.H. Oakes

Oh man where do I even start. I absolutely loved this book. The way Kels wrote this book, the way she wrote these characters navigating different types of grief, I've never felt more seen.

This is Rosalie & Cameron's story.

Rosalie is moving from Colorado to Winhaven, Kentucky. Her and her daughter getting a fresh new start. On the way her tire blows and in walks Cameron Brown with all his swagger and southern charm. With his yes mams and his beautiful smile a mile wide. I loved him from the very start.

Both of these characters have to navigate tremendous grief in different ways. Grief is not linear and looks different for everyone.

Cams unwavering love and support for Rosalie and her daughter throughout this whole book I cannot even deal with it. Hes just a gem of a human. And Rosalie knowing how to be there for him without him having to ask. Ughhh just so beautiful to read.

I cannot wait to see what you do next. It was a true honor to read your debut novel Kels. I am so excited to see what you do next in the series. So stoked for you! This book was incredible!

ARC REVIEW | ⭐️4.5 | 🌶️2

This book was such a beautiful surprise read for me. I’ve never read anything by KH Oakes, but now I’m so excited for what’s to come in this series.

This book had everything it was fun and flirty, and the banter right off the bat between Cameron and Rosalie was so enjoyable. Their meet-cute gave classic rom-com vibes.

But at its core, this book was such a beautiful expression of loss and grief. Rosalie’s loss felt so tangible, in the way Oakes wrote it you could feel it deep in your soul. Cameron’s understanding, shaped by his own experiences, was such a meaningful part of their love story. The way this book showcases the journey of grief and how, while no two people’s experiences are the same, there’s an undercurrent that anyone who has lost someone significant understands all too well. It was incredibly moving.

I also really loved that both Rosalie and Cameron were single parents. Seeing them and their girls come together as a blended family added so much warmth and joy amongst the more somber moments of the story.

I loved this book. It was heartbreaking and healing all at once, and I can’t wait to see what’s to come next.

I received an advance copy of this book for free and am leaving this review voluntarily.

I’m screaming for the release of this amazing debut novel! And what an amazing story it was! A couple of single parents finding their way to each other in the hills of horse country, Kentucky was perfection.

Rosalee finds a cinnamon roll Cameron in this small town and the love story truly begins. Cameron, a single dad himself, instantly knows this new girl in town could be what he’s been looking for. He’s so funny and thoughtful and doesn’t hold back letting Rosalee know he is interested.

This story was an emotional one with loss and grief but with that comes a growing love and connection between two broken people - one early in the journey of grief and the other more seasoned - and with the comes the cutest little girls that become best friends. I lived for the “family’ moments where their little family started to blend as their relationship grew. I truly loved feeling the emotions through the characters and watch them flourish and thrive while leaning on each other, and eventually mastering complimenting one another in their relationship.

I truly cannot wait to see what else she has in store for us in the future. I already have my eye on a couple of side characters that I need more of!

Wow, Beyond The Pages is my very first book by K.H. Oakes. I was not disappointed at all. The storyline alone makes this read worth it. Cameron Brown(MMC) and Rosalie Whittington(MFC) have both lost someone very special to them. Cameron helps Rosalie learn to live with, accept, and find ways to move forward after her loss. They have more in common than loss. They each have a 7yr little girl. Addison(Cameron) and Paige(Rosalie) who become fast friends and are super adorable while being very perceptive. The secondary characters are pretty cool too. I hope we have another book coming hopefully between a certain BIL and BF. The banter between the characters is over the top with lots of s*xy banter. I can’t say enough about how I was just blown away by this story. Cameron and Rosalie recognize something special in each other quickly and they fall hard for each other. I loved everything about Beyond The Pages. I love it when the title of the book has special ties to the storyline. As I’m writing my review the meaning of the title finally came to me. When you figure out the meaning of the title you’ll realize just how special this story is! I loved all the tropes in this story-small town, single mom, single dad, healing after hurt, slow burn, and friends to lovers.

Cameron and Rosalie felt like they were two people meant to find each other at the right time. Their interactions during the first few chapters were so playful and flirty as they kept popping up in the same places throughout town. They had their share of playful moments mixed with comfort and a love that felt effortless. There wasn't anything they wouldn't do for each other.

Rosalie was such a strong heroine. Starting a new job, in a new town with her daughter in tow and the rest of her family back home. Cameron treated her like she was something precious. I loved that both Cameron and Rosalie were single parents. Their girls were so cute and I especially enjoyed the chapter where the girls spent time with Rosalie alone.

I think a lot of people will connect with the healing after loss storyline. The author wrote it in a way that was handled with such care. This deeper storyline allowed the reader to see just how much Cameron and Rosalie needed each other.

The entire cast of characters were so likable. I of course have to mention Cameron's brother-in-law Beckett. Their conversations were hilarious as they shared their own set of banter.

I love discovering a new author, and this book pulled me in from the blurb alone. I connected with Rosalie immediately, and her family had me smiling from the very first chapter. Paige is such a joy, and the mother daughter bond is beautifully written.
The meet cute between Cameron and Rosalie was absolutely perfect—sweet, fun, and full of chemistry. The story also tackles some tougher themes, but they’re handled with care and sensitivity. I saw so much of myself in Rosalie as she faced her hardest moments, and those scenes felt incredibly real.
The dynamic between Rosalie and Cameron is electric (Cameron’s dirty mouth definitely adds to it!), and the friendship between Paige and Addison brings all the feels. I especially loved the scenes where all four characters come together later in the story.
I enjoyed every moment and honestly didn’t want it to end. I’m really hoping we get a Beck story next—because I definitely need that!
A wonderful debut. Can’t wait to read more from this author.

What a fantastic debut!
Read if you love:
-Small Town Romances
-Single Parent Romances (both the MMC and FMC are single parents in this one)
-The sweetest romance, full of chemistry
-Witty Banter
-Hurt/Comfort
-Healing after loss

This was the sweetest small town romance but it still packs an emotional punch! Cameron and Rosalie are both single parents and Rosalie is new in town, ready to start her career as a Veterinarian. Immediately we get an adorable meet cute and can feel the chemistry between the characters. From there the sweetest romance develops! But while this is a sweet romance with the swooniest moments it also incorporates single parenthood as both characters are single parents. There are also some heavier topics such as the loss of a parent which touches heavily on grief and what that can look like but it's done beautifully. I really enjoyed the authors writing and how she wove together a beautiful love story with some heavier topics in a way that felt both raw and thoughtful. I adored this one!

This was one of the most sweetest, amazing, wholesome, books I have ever read. This is book one in The Winhaven Series. This was such a beautiful book this is the debut book for K.H. Oakes, and I'm so grateful that I got to advance read this it was so amazing. I do love the characters Rosalie, Cameron, paige and Addie. I am a sucker for small town, single parents, those sappy wholesome romances.I loved how everything progressed naturally I felt like it was very good it wasn't rushed it wasn't forced it felt like things flowed naturally. I love the fact that I felt like Cameron was a very patient man he's just like the most amazing MMC that I've read he was genuine and loving and everything any person would want. Rosalie she was a very strong woman I felt like she just had one of the biggest hearts. There is one quote that absolutely loved when Cameron told Rosalie, " I promise I'll always be the person without judgment." That made me ball tears like nobody's business. Overall, this an amazing book. I absolutely loved it so much I'm excited to see how this series continues.
