Men of Talon Mountain #8

Avenger of Talon Mountain

I find evidence a nurse died protecting, encrypted files, surveillance photos… and a reason for someone powerful to hunt me down.

I think calling the FBI is the right move.
It almost gets me killed.

Marc Wells is the one who drags me out of a parking-garage ambush, his body shielding mine, his voice steady even as bullets hit steel. He tells me the the man trying to erase me is a federal agent with enough authority to bury the evidence… and me with it.

Now Marc and I are hiding in the Alaskan wilderness, forced into tight quarters where the air feels too hot, too charged, every brush of his hands a promise he won’t put into words. He’s disciplined and controlled until I push back, until the danger closes in, until our restraint snaps in ways I can’t pretend to forget.

We’re running for our lives.
We’re crossing lines we can’t uncross.
And the deeper we go, the harder it is to tell where the danger ends…
and where Marc begins.

Because he’s not just my protector.

He’s the man who makes me feel alive while the world tries to kill me.

Book 8 still has us searching for answers and running from danger. Sela has discovered information that has put a target in her back and Marc is determined to protect her. Their feelings complicate things but some times love is worth the risk. This action packed book is full of steamy scenes and nonstop danger. This 8th installment is an excellent read and addition to this series. Due to the relationships and character development these books are best read in order. As always Delta James brings a great balance of suspense, danger and intimate love scenes that keep you enthralled and waiting for the next book in the series.

Marc and Adela are thrown together when she finds evidence Emma Blackwater left in her hospital locker. The Marshall is still out there trafficking victims and now they are one step closer to identifying him. This is book 8 in the Men of Talon Mountain series, they are best read in order for enjoyment and understanding of the relationships between all of the characters. This one started a bit slow for me, but then got going and became one fantastic scene after the other. Either on the run or heated sex in the bedroom, made it a 4⭐️ read for me. Great characters are what drive this series. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Who knew that doing the right thing would send you running and fearing for your life? This is the situation that Sela finds herself in. Fortunately for her Marc, her rescuer arrives in time to stop the assassination. What happens next is a continuation of the backstory that this series is based on. It is very fast paced as the attempt to bring down the trafficking network picks up. Time is of the essence as the team work to bring down the person who is running the trafficking ring. As the team unravel who is the head of the organization, they soon find, that the evil goes even deep than they first through. And thru it all, the attraction that Marc and Sela feel for each other will not be denied. Stopping the trafficking ring is important, but not as important as what these two feel for each other.

3.75stars—AVENGER OF TALON MOUNTAIN is the eighth instalment in Delta James’ contemporary, adult MEN OF TALON MOUNTAIN romantic suspense series set Talon Mountain, Alaska. This is RN Sela Mitchell, and former Army CID Sheriff’s Deputy Marc Wells. AVENGER OF TALON MOUNTAIN can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines, is revealed where necessary but I recommend reading the series in order as there is an ongoing premise throughout.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Sela and Marc) AVENGER OF TALON MOUNTAIN follows in the wake of the attempted murder of our story line heroine. Sela Mitchell’s first day on the job at Palmer Regional Hospital ends with a shoot out in the parking garage. Earlier in the day, Sela discovered an encrypted USB stick, and within hours of reporting, she had become a target of some very powerful people. Sheriff’s Deputy Marc Wells recognizes the evidence Sela discovered, and in an effort to protect our story line heroine, our couple find themselves on the run in the Alaskan Wilderness. Unable to trust anyone in the FBI or the DOJ, Marc and his friends call in a favor, a favor that once again places a target on our story line couple.

The world building focuses on the search for the truth; the uneven distribution of power in government offices, and the people with too much power and control.

The relationship between Sela and Marc begins as protection. Sela has unknowingly caught the attention of someone in power, and with it, has been targeted for what she had found. Marc is determined to protect the woman with whom he will fall in love but battles between head and heart, knowing that to cross the line, may be the end of his career. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top , sexually graphic language and text.

There is a large ensemble cast of colorful, familiar and energetic secondary and supporting characters many of whom we met in the previous story lines.

AVENGER OF TALON MOUNTAIN is a fast paced story of betrayal and vengeance, power and control, secrets and lies. government corruption, friendships and love. The premise is edgy and dramatic; the characters are determined and dynamic; the romance is seductive and impassioned.

Once again Delta James does not disappoint! Another great read in the Men of Talon Mountain Series.

This is Marc and Sela's story.

As Sela starts a new job at Palmer Regional ER dept, she discovers an important USB device hidden in her locker. The information is critical in bringing down the Human Trafficking ring that has eluded the FBI and other depts for years.

Emma Blackthorne died due to compiling the data on the USB. So what do you do with information that needs to go to the sheriffs office. You ring the hot line to declare what you have found……..only to find you are a target for an assassination attempt hours later.

This begins the story of Marc and Sela. As Marc responds to the call of shots fired at the parking garage at the hospital. He finds Sela crouched low behind her vehicle…..waiting for help, whilst focusing on staying alive.

Marc, the Deputy of Whitewater Junction and friend of Rhys, the husband of murdered nurse Emma Blackwater.

He finds that Sela has Emma's evidence and of course calls Rhys!

And so the investigating begins.

A fast paced story as the honest law enforcement guys try and take down one of FBI's leaders who can make people and evidence disappear. there are too many corrupt officers within the network it is hard to know who to trust!

The threat on Sela's life is real and Marc takes it upon himself to go into hiding with Sela to keep her safe.

I love how these hardened ex military men fall for the new lady in their lives.

Marc finds a connection to Sela and yes some nice heated page reading for us to all enjoy in typical Delta fashion.

Plenty of drama, running and hiding in the Alaskan wilderness as Marc is determined to keep Sela safe.

Do they catch their target? How many recruited hit men do they have to eliminate before they even get close?

Using Sela as bait to help build a case against Haywood is not on Marc's to do list, but Sela is determined to help with the case.

With developing feelings between Sela and Marc, they work well together to get the bad guy!

Yeh, great story and a nice HFN for Sela and Marc as investigations continue in Book 9, Reckoning of Talon Mountain.

This is the eight book in this series of interconnected stories ,and although it can be read as a standalone, I would urge reading the series in sequence to obtain the most enjoyment.

Trauma nurse, Sela Mitchel, had recently been employed by Palmer Regional Hospital and had at last managed to secure a locker, a locker that no one wanted, a locker that had belonged to murdered trauma nurse Emma Blackwater. Whilst making sure that the locker was clean, Sela came across a USB secretly taped where probably no one had looked, Sela decided the best course of action was to telephone the FBI tip line, that was to be a mistake that would put a huge target on her back and her life in immense danger.

Ex army CID, and now a deputy sheriff at Whitewater Junction, Marc Wells was just leaving the court house when he heard on his radio of gun shots coming from the hospital car park, as he was close by, Marc took the call, it was a call the was possibly going to change his life forever, crouching calmly behind her shot up car was a nurse in scrubs, a nurse who needed rescuing.

Sela's story was related to Sherriff Rhys Blackwater, the husband of murdered Emma, and his handpicked team, a team that were investigating human trafficking, a team who's enemies were the very people who were suppose to protect them and have their backs, who could they trust ? how could they keep Sela safe ?

This story follows the skill and bravery of a small team as they come up against the might of the FBI and well trained teams of highly skilled, well equipped mercenaries.

This is a quick story, action packed, suspense filled, there is of course a romance between Sela and Marc but it took a while for me to feel any chemistry between them.

This one was SOOO good! (Yeah, I say that every time, but I really mean it.) While this may technically be a standalone, it will help if you've read Defender of Talon Mountain (Sheriff Rhys Blackwater & Harlow Kane's story) for a solid background/foundation. Sela is a nurse assigned Emma's locker, where she uncovers the hidden USB drive. When she calls it in to the FBI top line, that's where things go sideways. Marc happened to be nearby and was able to extract her from the situation. Nice, high stress meeting! From there this story is all motion, all the time. Between dodging attempted hits/captures, organizing with the task force, setting up meets with allies and finding a secure place to sleep (or try to), these two have allot of balls in the air. Knowing they only have one shot at their target before he starts erasing evidence, the heat is on to get it done quickly AND correctly.

This book had me hooked from the start. The chemistry between Marc and Sela was more understated, but definately present in their interactions and factored in their decision making (particularly Marc's). I was very pleased that previous characters joined back in the frey where appropriate - they all have a stake in bringing down The Marshall and his cronies. Will this be the time they finally get the head of the snake? Be prepared for a marathon read. I finished this in one setting because I kept having to find out what happened next. Can't wait for Reckoning of Talon Mountain, due out in late April 2026!

I was graciously gifted a copy of this book and voluntarily provided this review. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. Happy Reading Y'all 📚

A simply captivating read excitement and action filled with hazards and danger around various bends
After she found information detailing without a doubt that the FBI are involved in covering up information, she had taken it upon herself to report the information she knew to be fact and it had nearly cost her life.
Marc Wells had dragged her out of the parking garage and he is infuriated that the nurse had nearly lost her life because she had tried to be honest and report what she had discovered and then when she had been on the way out of the hospital she had nearly been shot up, it had only been his fast action that had actually saved her life.
Marc actually is able to discover that she is wanted dead by an FBI Agent that is extremely high up in in their seniority and he is determined that she ends up dead, however Marc explains that she has to hide out because it seems that the FBI Agent is trying to eradicate her as soon as possible.
Marc decides that the first thing she needs to do is to hide out in the Alaskan wilderness and it seems that hiding out in the Alaskan wilderness is not as easy as initially envisioned. As the danger continues to close in Marc knows that they have got to a safe location and then hopefully they can get her information out ther and the true culprit can be put behind bars.
This was an action filled read that I guarantee will keep readers riveted right from beginning to end.
I thoroughly enjoyed the book and look forward to reading any future publications; keep up all the wonderful writing.

A thrilling romantic suspense from the very first page to the last. Nurse Sela Mitchell has moved back to Alaska and is working at Palmer Regional Hospital. When she receives a locker for her personal items, she learns that the locker had belonged to a nurse, Emma, who recently died. When she finds a USB drive hidden in the locker, she views what is not restricted and believes it may be involved in Emma’s death. Calling the FBI office, she explains what she found and is told to wait and an agent will arrive to claim it. Sheriff’s Deputy Marc Wells arrives at the hospital in time to see Emma fall to the ground and is able to get her to safety. After learning what had happened, he takes her to the sheriff’s office. Marc is former Army CID and his friends work to gain information from the drive. They are aware that women are being trafficked in Alaska, but now believe that someone with a high level of clearance is involved. As he keeps her near to protect her, an attraction develops between them while they try to stay alive. When a woman is needed to assist in their plan to take down the suspect, Sela insists on being that woman. Marc objects, but she insists and he is impressed with her strength and desire for justice, for Emma. Knowing that someone called the Marshal is in charge, will they be able to find them, take them down and keep Sela safe? What a rush!!! Sela's character is really amazing. I get that being a trauma nurse makes her very good under pressure. Making split decisions in seconds to save lives. But the absolute bravery that she shows throughout the story is truly inspiring. I think whether he admits it or not, Marc fell for Sela the first moment he saw her. He definitely wasn't going to trust her safety to anyone but him. My heart hurt for Rhys. It seems like he is constantly being reminded and having to deal with the loss of his wife, Emma. It's well worth it to him, but has to be crushing! I'm glad that he has Harlow to help him. I loved how Marc from the beginning was able to open up for Sela, to really show his emotions and not go thru days and days of denying his feelings for her. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. Like all the Talon Mountain books this one is packed full of action, intrigue, and danger around every corner. Corruption at the highest levels and brave men and women who won't let anything stop them from getting justice for Emma and all the victims of "The Marshal". Plus lots of incredible heat between Sela and Marc. I highly recommend reading the entire series in order so you can better understand the dynamics of the entire story line. Excellent Book!!

Action, insta-love. Trauma nurse Sela Mitchell finds a carefully hidden USB stick in the locker she has just been assigned. The previous owner was a nurse who was murdered, Emma Blackwater, and nobody else had wanted the locker. Sela's attempt to find out what is on the memory device leads her to encrypted files that she can only tell contain photos and transaction records. Knowing that Emma was murdered during a trafficking investigation, Sela calls the FBI tip line. Now, she has a bullseye on her back.

Deputy Marc Wells has just completed testimony at the Palmer courthouse when a calls comes in for shots fired at the local hospital. He joins the local PD in answering the call due to his close proximity to the hospital. He finds a car with bullet holes in the windshield and a woman outside using it for cover. Taking her to Whitewater Junction for safety after she tells him about the evidence she found, starts the next chapter in bringing the traffickers, and the people protecting them, to justice.

I was given an advanced copy of this book by the author. My review is voluntary.

Action upon top of action as Deputy Marc Wells protects Sela Mitchell from the contractor killers that have been sent to eliminate her. She found Emma's hidden evidence on the traffickers making the mistake of calling the FBI. Within hours the first attempt was made on her life, where Marc found her taking her into custody staying one step ahead of the killers. Together with the help of the task force, some clean FBI, and DOJ they manage to take down some more of the trafficking ring, but they still have no idea who the Marshall was. This book had a slow burn between Marc and Sela mainly starting as close proximity and high adrenalin come down. Sela was a strong character that was not going to be left behind. She was going to follow this through to the end no matter what. She wanted Emma's evidence to count for something. Marc easily got attached to Sela, as a nurse she was not easily rattled remaining clam even during gun battles. This book was well written and interesting thus fast reading, highly recommend.

From Sela's locker assign to the meeting at the coffee shop, I did not expect the level of non stop action and suspense I experienced. I know Sela was a trauma nurse, but I felt like there was more to her that wasn't mentioned. Yes, she was strong and calm in the face of chaos. She also seemed to be very familiar with firearms and tactical skills. That was an unexpected skill set. At least I thought it was unexpected. I almost forgot the most obvious element of tracking. Why NO ONE thought of it was amazing.

Marc and Sela"s relationship also provided the romance and heat. It was a nice touch to include characters from earlier in the series. The trafficking group managed to stay one step ahead of the Talon Mountain group. So, we still don't know the identity of the Marshal, but another battle was won. I appreciated the epilogue. I was surprised by the epilogue, but still appreciated it.

A fast paced novel featuring Sela, a trauma nurse who found a USB of the murdered Emma Blackwater in her locker and she reported it to the FBI and Marc Wells, deputy of Whitewater Junction. Shortly after her call to the FBI there's an attempted assassination on her life. Marc being in the vicinity, came to her rescue and took her back to Stormwater. Rhys called the team in and they decided to keep her safe in a remote cabin in the mountains, but the same night they're attacked. Sela shot a man. The close encounter with death leads to a night of passion. Lines are crossed, but she's not deterred, he makes her feel safe. The tension radiated and more attacks followed. Resources are called in. Hayward ran, but Wells tracked him down. Very engaging storyline with a good fill of action and spice though the identity of the Marshall is still unknown.

Sela is the new trauma nurse in Palmer, Alaska. She was given the locker of a former nurse who was murdered. As she is cleaning the locker, she discovers a thumb drive that has encrypted data, as well as other information regarding trafficking. She does the logical thing by calling the FBI tip line. Unbeknownst to her, her information was passed to an FBI agent who is involved in the trafficking. Several hours later, there is an attempt on her life. Marc, a deputy, was in the parking garage when the shooting started and got Sela to safety.

They work together, along with the other members at Talon Mountain, to break apart the trafficking ring. There are numerous attempts on their loves, driven by the higher-level operatives. It’s a fast-paced, intense story that is gripping and keeps the reader’s attention. I’m looking forward to the next book in this outstanding series. Sela Mitchell has recently transferred to Palmer Regional Hospital, cleaning out the locker she is issued she finds a flash drive with what looks like evidence the former occupant of the author had gathered about a criminal organization. After much internal debate she decides to call the FBI tip line and report her discovery. Marc Wells, sheriff's Deputy in Whitewater junction has just left the Palmer courthouse when the call goes out about an active shooter at the hospital parking garage. He will become her protector from men who want her dead but they both want more, and even on the run their feelings grow in a need they can't resist.
Exciting, suspenseful, and action packed read with complex and realistic characters on the run from a criminal organization with the power to eliminate any threat. A must-read book, I loved it!

Avenger of Talon Mountain is the eighth book in Delta James’ Men of Talon Mountain series. It is a romantic suspense novel that is filled sizzling chemistry, drama and nonstop action. It is written in third person from the perspective of both the hero, Sheriff Marc Wells and the heroine, Trauma Nurse Sela Mitchell.

The drama continues on Talon Mountain and James does an amazing job introducing new characters while continuing with a storyline that keeps readers coming back for more. I loved Marc and Sela together. Danger brought them together but their deep connection and need to right wrongs made them perfect for each other. Together, they work to take down another rung in the trafficking ring on Talon Mountain. Will they succeed? Or will they meet an untimely end? Read it and find out! Fantastic series addition. I can’t wait to read the next book in this series!

In a way this is a continuation of the series, but can be read as a standalone. There are past characters helping and new ones introduced.

I loved both Sela and Marc. She, being a trauma nurse, helps when the threat is real and she needed to keep a cool head and not panic like so many others would have. She takes direction well and because of that Marc has an easier time with protecting her. I loved that they are getting closer to finding out who The Marshal is. And that they are dedicated to that task and each other.

Marc being a deputy has been knee deep with helping Rhys, Harlow and Cara ..

I loved the heart beating suspense, there is steam to the eventual romance. The ending leaves you with a HFN/HEA for them.

Desperation
This intense series grabs hold and doesn’t let you go! It’s still amazing to hear/read stories about people who still care and want to do the right thing! Sela and Marc are two of those people. Sela has relocated because of a bad breakup only to throw herself into the fire. A new nursing position and the discovery of something horrendous. When she tries to do what is right she’s thrown into the crosshairs of The Marshall and her life becomes forfeit. Marc and Rhys along with their team step in just in time. Can they keep Sela safe while beating the bad guys at their own game? Well let’s just mention that back country Alaska is No Joke and the good guys can fight dirty too.

I’ve always respected nurses and this story feels real in Sela’s dedication to finding justice for trafficking victims and her commitment to doing the right thing when she is in a position to do so. Marc is first attracted to her calmness under fire (as an ER nurse it’s kind of a job requirement) but also her dedication to see the process through, despite the personal danger. Marc also is dedicated to finding who is running the trafficking operation and rooting out the rot from the FBI or wherever it goes. He values Sela’s bravery, even as he tries to protect her and keep her out of the line of fire. A LOT of action, twists, and turns. Gripping read!

Sela is a nurse who recently moved to get away from heartbreak and the pitying looks. She finds killer information in the locker she is assigned and realizes it did get someone killed. She does what is supposed to be the right thing and reports it to the FBI, but it is not the right thing. Marc, a deputy, saves her from an ambush and now they are both on the run from corrupt officials who will do anything to get rid of the evidence that Sela found. As she, Marc, and the task force work to get the right government officials and operatives on their side they find that they don't want to be alone anymore. Will they live to expose more of the dirty dealings in Alaska and elsewhere and to find their HEA? I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

When Sella finds a hidden USB drive in a locker allocated to her, she follows her first instinct to see or hear what is on it. The second instinct is to report this to the country's security office. Well in the country I live in, it is known that her second option would have failed miserably. Instead what she did was put a target on her back. When Marc heard the call out over the police radio, he was closest to the area and able to rush to her.
Delta James has ramped up her tension with this book, creating too many breaks to calm my heartrate, yet I'm still left with the crumbs while trying to trail The Marshall.

Fantastic series. Action packed from beginning to end. The case against the trafficking is building and with new evidence lures the prime suspect into the open. Selma is a trauma nurse at Palmer Regional Hospital. When she is assigned a locker, she discovers a flash drive hidden under the shelf liner. Which leads to vital information in a trafficking case that led to a murder three years before. Calling the FBI hotline put a target on her back an assassination attempt. Deputy Marc Wells is first on the scene and takes Sela to a secure location. Trouble follows them every step of the way. Marc will do everything to keep Sela alive. Love this series.

Avenger of Talon Mountain is the eigth book in the Men of Talon Mountain series by Delta James. This addition to the series is a quick but enticing read. This storyline is an agressive action packed justice driven rollercoaster ride full of murder, trafficking, corruption at highest level power hungry men willing to do anything to protect themselves. This books grabs you from first page to last as the story grabs the reader and can't be put down until finished. It is a story of how someone who does the right thing has to defend her actions. The scenes between Sela and Marc show great strength and resolve. The author weaves between suspense, justice and romance beautifully. There is a large cast of characters that give great weight to the book. Well done.

Sela finds evidence of the trafficking in Alaska and when she calls the FBI hotline, an assassin is sent to quiet her and make the evidence disappear. However, Sela is not as easy a target as they thought.
Marc answers a call regarding a shooting and when he arrives, he finds Sela, she may be a civilian, but she is calm and able to tell him important facts.
This is an action-packed, fast-moving, suspense romance. I was engrossed from start to finish, the characters are well developed, and the action is fast and furious. Each book in this series gets you closer to the head of the snake, I wonder who it is!

I extremely loved Sela and Marc's story. They keep together in the most unexpected way. It was suspenseful, a page turner, unpredictable, very edge of your seat kind of story, romantic, and for me it actually remind me through all of my emotions than a person can have. It was like watching the best movie with the most wonderful plot and characters you can ever have. The books are always better to me than the movies anyway. And in my opinion with this one unless they had it on something like Cinemax HBO, and Starz they would have to cut too much out of it and it would be it for a movie. I highly recommend this book for ages 18+. I will be reading more Delta James books.

The danger starts immediately and is still there at the end. The storyline is well throughout, with well developed characters that caused me to read the story in one sitting. I loved the instant attraction between Marc and Sela with the heat going from 🔥to🔥🔥🔥in a very short time. On one hand, I am anxious to discover who the Marshal is but that probably means the end to this series. I have enjoyed all the different couples who have come together and survived but not everyone made it out alive. Definitely worth reading.
