Take Two

She can sell love to millions... Just not the one waiting for her back home.

Callie Price is very good at pretending her life is perfect on camera. As a fan-favourite contestant on a hit reality dating show, she knows how to flirt, cry on cue and survive producer drama. So when the show sends her back to her small hometown for a glossy “homecoming” episode, she tells herself it’s just another role.

Then she runs into Mae Morgan.

Mae is Callie’s first love – the girl she left behind and never quite got over. Now Mae owns the local bakery the producers insist on filming in, which means Callie is suddenly stuck working long days under bright studio lights, surrounded by sugar, small-town gossip and all the feelings she never resolved.

As filming ramps up, so do the awkward run-ins, lingering tension and sparks neither woman can ignore. The romance Callie is selling on screen starts to feel painfully fake compared to what keeps flaring between her and Mae. With producers pushing for drama and their past crashing into the present, both women have to keep playing their parts, or risk their hearts for something real.

A sapphic second-chance romantic comedy from internationally bestselling author Natasha West. 'Take Two' is funny, emotional and irresistibly romantic.

Callie is in a 'Bachelor' style TV show, and has made it to the final three. The next bits will be filmed in each of the women's home towns, which she's not thrilled about.

Once upon a time Mae Morgan was Callie's bestie, but that was a long time ago. (Twelve years.) But now Callie is back in town, and the producer, Neil, wants to film in her café.

Flashbacks to teen Mae and Callie, who hung out a lot. Callie is very popular with the boys, and jokes that Mae needs to get laid. Then they visit the neighboring town and a woman hits on Callie. They start seeing each other, and Mae does not handle it well.

Now they want to film more in Mae's shop, which isn't going well. Plus Callie wants to find a chance to talk it out with her. Sam, the bachelor, is not a a**hole, at least.

I could really do without the flashbacks. They seem completely unnecessary, barring something weird cropping up. Finished, about all you NEEDED was the last flashback.

Reality show finished, Callie looses, comes home to Mae and happily ever after.

Solid 3.5 or so out of 5.

second chances..

This was a cute story about second chances. How when upset and hurt you say things you later regret. Sometimes it takes years and a forced opportunity to get the chance to apologize. This is the case with Mae and Callie. Twelve years later Callie is home filming a reality show and of course part of it is set in Mae’s bakery. There’s still anger and resentment but also the love is still there.

The characters are well written, feisty, and funny. You know it’s a winner when you become immersed in the story.
