Annie never went looking for trouble.
She never ran from it, either.

So when trouble came knocking on her trailer door that night, threatening her best friend, she did what Annie does best. She handled it. Permanently.

Now Tara is missing, and Annie is the only one stubborn enough—and reckless enough—to go after her. Following a trail of cryptic clues scattered across Texas, Annie’s search leads her straight to the person she swore she’d never face Johnny Timmons.

Her first love.
Her biggest regret.
The only man who ever got close enough to hurt her.

Her messy past with Johnny can wait. Tara can’t. Backed into a corner, Annie has no choice but to let Johnny help her. Whether they can survive each other long enough to find Tara… that’s the real question.

Witty, wild, and loyal to a fault, Annie will cross counties, break laws, and revisit every bad decision she’s ever made if it means finding her best friend. But the closer she gets, the more she realizes you don’t just walk away from the past.

Because some secrets refuse to stay buried.

What would you do for a friend?

This book has become a top favorite of mine. I binged it in 24 hours and will never stop recommending it to anyone.
I loved the story, the characters and especially the amazing sarcastic banter throughout. It had excitement, danger, secrets, betrayal, found family, sacrifice, friendships and love. It had me laughing out loud with all the sarcastic humor. It had me cheering on the badass FMC, Annie. It even had me crying at times.
This story is about childhood friends and love. Growing up in less than favorable conditions but always having the love of each other. Things you would do for your best friend and the love that got away.
This was an absolute amazing book. A true Chef’s kiss that I would absolutely love turned into a movie. It was that good!

Great freaking 2nd chance romance with a sprinkle of crazy.

I loved Annie and her brand of loyalty and crazy.

The freaking misunderstanding of all misinformation.

This was a no spice except kissing romance…it was definitely fade to black. So, no pearls need clutching. Loved it.

This was one of those reads I could not put down! Too Pretty For Prison is a second-chance romance with loyalty, heartbreak, healing, and just enough chaos and action throughout the book.

Our FMC (Annie) is on a hunt for her best friend (Tara) after some major events occur, involving unaliving and some secrets uncovered. Annie ends up tracking Tara to a city where she meets with her ex, the MMC (Johnny), and it’s a rollercoaster from there on and out.

This is a clean romance (no spice beyond kissing), but honestly? It didn't need more. The connection, growth, and emotional depth carried the story completely.

Second-chance romance ☑️
Childhood sweethearts ☑️
Feisty, strong FMC ☑️
Emotional healing ☑️
Banter ☑️
Clean romance ☑️

First few pages I was already fully invested and I flew through this book within 24hrs (that’s how good it was)! Solid 5 ⭐️ from me!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Too Pretty for Prison by Kelly Parker

This book was everything. From the very first page, the FMC gave me strong Ozark–level main character energy—spunky, spicy, fiercely independent, and shaped by tragedy and trauma, yet grounded in unwavering loyalty. She’s survived a rough upbringing, but she had the best of friends and the love of her life… until one day, without warning or explanation, he disappears.

Four years go by without a word between them.

Then everything unravels.

Her best friend is kidnapped, leaving behind breadcrumbs only she would recognize—and the only person who can help her follow them is the man who once broke her heart. What follows is an absolutely wild ride. This book had me laughing out loud one minute, then spiraling emotionally the next. The twists and turns are unpredictable, the tension is relentless, and the emotional payoff is chef’s kiss.

The relationship between the FMC and MMC is volatile, loyal, chaotic, and deeply passionate. Their banter is sharp and hilarious, their fights are explosive, and the emotional rollercoaster never lets up. It’s the kind of story you don’t want to end—even when it’s breaking your heart in small, weepy bursts.

This was a solid 5-star read for me, and honestly, I can’t wait to read it again. Too Pretty for Prison delivers everything an anxious heart and spiraling brain could want—humor, heat (non spicy), pain, love, and redemption. Kelly Parker is an exceptional writer who knows exactly how to script a story, plot characters with depth, and give readers everything they didn’t even know they needed.

Highly recommend.

Annie never goes looking for trouble.
But she never runs from it either.

This story moves. From the first page, there’s momentum. A missing best friend. A past she can’t outrun. A trail of clues pulling her back toward the one man who knows her best and hurt her worst.

Annie is fierce without being reckless for show. Loyal without being naive. She breaks rules, crosses lines, and makes decisions that feel messy and human. You don’t just root for her. You trust her.

And then there’s Johnny.

Kelly doesn’t overplay the romance. She doesn’t drown the story in longing or melodrama. Instead, she builds something real. History. Tension. The kind of connection that carries weight because it’s complicated. Their relationship feels lived in, not manufactured. You understand why they work. You understand why they don’t. That balance is rare.

The humor lands. The emotional punches land harder.

This isn’t a soft love story wrapped in danger. It’s a story about loyalty, regret, and what happens when the past refuses to stay buried. The pacing keeps you moving, but the emotional undercurrent gives it depth.

Annie is the kind of character you will want as a best friend. Johnny is the kind of love interest you will argue about and secretly adore.

Kelly wrote something bold here. It’s sharp, heartfelt, and grounded in character.

Highly recommend.

Whatever drug she put into the words in this book is, I’m hooked! This book had me sucked in from start to finish and I think I am in love with Annie and Johnny!

This book reminded me so much of the movie sweet home Alabama among a few others. Annie is a spitfire and isn’t afraid to put herself in harms way to protect those she loves! She loves with her whole heart and so fiercely that she doesn’t even think of herself or the consequences.

Her and Johnny both had such a rough up bringing that they had to choice but learn how to be fierce and take no crap from anybody.

This book had second chance romance, found family, touch her and die, romantic suspense, lots of banter. I need to read all of Kelly’s books! I’m def gonna need her entire backlist.

This book gives strong MaryAnn & Wanda vibes (Dixie chicks reference), and I’m here for it! Annie is a wild little spitfire who takes no crap from anyone and just tells it how it is. I love her carefree personality… but then you learn about her past & it’s heartbreaking. The love of her life walks away and doesn’t talk to her for four years. In those four years she goes through it all… and then suddenly she’s face to face with the man who broke her heart, trying to find her best friend who was kidnapped, and learns things aren’t always as they seem.
Four stars because I was left really wanting to know what happened to Tara while Annie was looking for her & Vanessa annoyed the ever loving crap out of me.

OMG!!! I read this book in less than 12 hours!!!! I could not stop laughing, crying, and gasping in surprise!!! This book had me on the edge of my seat at all times and made me so sad when I came to the end! I LOVED how outspoken and how unapologetically Annie was fully herself in every situation! I laughed so hard I was in tears with the interactions with Vanessa! This was so well written that I was able to feel and connect with not the just main characters but the side characters as well!
Fantastic read!!! Thank you!!!

Cute fun and clean

Went into this book thinking it would be just like the rest, filled with spicy scenes thru out the whole book. It was surprisingly clean. I loved that!
So Johnny left and it threw Annie into a tailspin. Tara got kidnapped after a murder gone wrong. Annie tries to fix everything on her own, as all badass FMCs do. Chaos and clarity happens, voila HEA.
This was a cute friends to enemies to lovers kinda book. Full of drama and witty banter. Purchased on a whim and I am so glad I did. This was such a fun read.

This book grabs you from the beginning and has you thoroughly entranced the whole time. The love that the two friends have for each other and then the love of the two high school sweethearts is all just so beautiful. This book shows you that family isn’t always blood and what loyalty truly is. It shows you how you can heal from trauma and that love isn’t always pretty. Kelly Parker has become one of my favorite authors!

I gave this 5 stars. It has everything I love an FMC who can carry her own and who is fun. This book has second chance romance, mystery, romance without the spice, and emotions are high. Annie is searching for her best friend who goes missing. I honestly couldn't put this book down it took me a min to get to it because I was reading other arcs. I'm so glad I was given this opportunity and I will be reading more of Kelly Parker's books. Pick this up and the cover is so pretty.

If I could give more than 5 stars, I would! This book had me hooked from the dedication and it kept getting better. The characters(Annie has my heart), the plot, the banter, everything comes together to make this incredible story. If you’re someone who would do anything for your best friend, and I mean anything, then this is a must read.

Absolutely loved this book! Annie is a hoot & I’m all for her type of FMC.
I mean who doesn’t love a second chance love story. It has twist and turns and ups and downs and everything in between to keep you entertained and not wanting to put the book down.
I literally read this in 1 day!

I’d love to get Tara’s story next.

Johnny and Annie were childhood sweethearts with their future planned—until Johnny vanished overnight. Days later, Annie’s best friend Tara disappears too, leaving Annie alone and spiralling.

When Annie uncovers clues about Tara’s disappearance, they lead her back to Johnny, now a police officer. As they work together, the search turns dangerous and long-buried secrets surface.

Will Annie survive long enough to find Tara—and discover if there’s still something left between her and Johnny? 💔✨

This book was packed with twists and turns—honestly, it nearly gave me whiplash. Johnny and Annie’s relationship is intense and volatile, yet deeply emotional and full of love. Johnny would do absolutely anything for Annie, and that devotion really stood out to me.

There’s no spice at all, but it didn’t bother me in the slightest. I thoroughly enjoyed the story from start to finish.
