When Romeo’s Dagger gets a taste of fame before Vintage Misery, Diego starts getting in his head about what that means for the two of them.

Then it’s Vintage Misery’s turn.

Oh, boy, I knew that this book was going to be a painful read, but I wasn’t prepared for just how painful it was going to be. First, Vintage Misery gets what every band dreams of—A deal with a major record label, and then it all goes downhill from there. It’s one bad decision after another for Diego as he isolates himself from his friends, gets fucked up on every substance he can afford, and throws himself into a relationship that goes nowhere and ends horribly. All so that he can forget about the summer he spent on tour with Ashton. Because in the end, fame and fortune could never fill the void Ashton left in Diego’s life.

I’m really nervous for book 3, especially after how this one ended, but I am excited to see more of Wes, Miles, and Nathan. Unlike Diego, they don’t let the fame and fortune go their heads, and they stay together in their shitty apartment in Chicago, even though they could absolutely afford to move somewhere better. Despite Diego’s shitty behaviour tanking their band’s image, and ruining a few of their performances, they continue to care about his dumb ass, and try to talk him into seeking help when his shitty behaviour and substance abuse problems finally bite him in the ass. But Diego being Diego, rejects them all and ends up downing a boatload of drugs in some stranger’s room after lamenting about Ashton. I am terrified for the third book in this series, but I know it will be great. And it will probably make me cry again, like this one did.

I have been waiting for this release and absolutely devoured it in ONE DAY. 💥💥💥 Quite easily one of the best reads I’ve read this year (and one of my favorite series!)

Oh, I knew this installment was going to hurt and really put Diego through the wringer. You really do get lost in the world of navigating fame, relationships, and sense of self. My heart breaks for Diego because he really does make himself is own worst enemy. And a part of me believes he’s the only one who can “save” himself—as much as I want Ashton or the boys from Vintage Misery to woosh in to help, Diego has to find it within himself the inner strength we all know he has (it’s just dormant right now). And the way this story is written is so raw that as a reader I know his struggles will be hard as f*ck to get over.

Please give this series a chance—it’s so underrated, but the story and characters pulls you in. This book is more Diego-centric, but you will see some familiar and new characters (I need more chaotic Miles energy, but Nathan moved up in my ranks!) I just love Diego and feel for him so much—and this story is SUCH a reminder that no matter what it WILL get better. Even if you feel alone and done, you aren’t 🥹

It took me a couple days after reading to fully formulate my thoughts about this beautiful book. It’s deep, it’s dark, it’s overwhelmingly real at times, and all of the difficult topics were handled so perfectly. To say that Diego needs a hug is an understatement, but I’d like to give him one anyway.
The sequel to a lighthearted and fun romantic read about bands on tour, this story explores how the dynamics between the members of Vintage Misery change with rapidly increasing fame- something that kept true to the band members’ personalities and allowed me to understand them all better. These characters are multidimensional and fun to read in a way that makes them feel like, as I have joked, “my close personal friends Vintage Misery.” Like a real band, this read will have you rooting for their success and maybe even picking a favorite.
I LOVE love this book. Keep the tissues nearby- you’re going to need them.

Painful painful painful

Diego is hurting bad and he makes mistakes and does bad things but he isn’t a bad guy. He’s hurt and haunted by what he could have done what he could have had. Haunted by the person he wishes he could be sharing everything with. Diego’s behaviors and choices really resonated with a younger part of me - the part of me that used to lash out when he was hurt. The part of me that wanted everyone to feel as shitty as I once did.

This hurt a lot and I really loved reading it. Thanks Ryan, looking forward to book 3.
