Help! I'm Being Eaten by a Bear!

From the creators of the national bestseller Don’t Trust Fish comes a gleefully absurd guide to bear encounters.

Bears are full of surprises. Luckily, the author of this picture book found out exactly what NOT to do when meeting a bear so that YOU can be totally prepared. For example, DO NOT make fun of the bear’s silly little ears and big hairy nose. And definitely DO NOT let the bear draw you a picture, even if he is a surprisingly good artist. Otherwise, you might end up on a wild adventure that could cost you your very favorite pair of pants…and win you an unexpected new friend.

Illustrated by National Book Award-winning creator Dan Santat (who may or may not secretly be a bear), this laugh-out-loud romp will delight readers of all ages.

Best book of 2026?!?!?

I laughed out loud repeatedly. Neil Sharpson and Dan Santat (the incredible duo who brought us Don't Trust Fish) have done it again. With bears. Silly, and smart, and informative, and laugh out loud funny - I think this is a charming book for slightly older kids (4/5+) and definitely one that parents, guardians, and baby sitters will enjoy reading.

I love Santat's drawing style, and he always pairs up with wonderful authors! A fun story packed with a lot of information about bears, in case you ever end up bumping into one.

Hey, kid... come here: I highly recommend this book if you and your family are planning to visit Alaska. Your parents will be thankful, and you might end up with a very furry friend! You're welcome!

"Don't Trust Fish" was the big winner of my elementary library's Mock Caldecott, and I am confident this will be another winner in terms of humor and the illustrations. Highly recommended for libraries where humorous picture books are popular.

After loving Don’t Trust Fish, I couldn’t wait for Neil Sharpson and Dan Santat’s next collaboration, and boy does it deliver! Hilarious hijinks, bold and funny illustrations, and one very memorable pair of fancy traveling pants. Now I need a pair of my own, preferably bear proof!

This humor just hits for me. Love the illustrations and the dramatic oversimplification of bear safety. So glad I read this pamphlet-slash- picture book in case I ever meet (or get eaten by) a bear!
