Came for dangerous berserker energy.
Stayed for the quiet intimacy, trauma healing and hand-holding.
Not what I expected…but not mad about it.
What worked for me
(aka: where it delivered)
This was soft monster romance done right. It leans hard into “soft only for her" and that’s exactly where it works. Kovren is feared by everyone, fully convinced he’s dangerous and then immediately folds into gentleness, restraint and care with her specifically...so yeah, I was invested. The whole “I’m not safe” vs “I don’t want to hurt you” vs “I want you anyway” tension absolutely carried.
The intimacy in this book is quiet but LOUD. It shows in the way he reacts to her touch, how his whole body settles when she holds his hand and that constant restraint like he’s holding himself back every second. It’s not even about spice, it’s about contact actually meaning something. And when those moments hit, they really land.
Both Kovren and Maren are carrying guilt and a deep sense of failure, shaped by the belief that they weren’t enough and someone died because of it. That shared trauma adds real depth to their connection and makes their bond feel intentional rather than just convenient.
Everything ties back to choice versus obligation, healing versus violence and being seen versus being feared. Even the ending reinforces that shift from “I’m bound to you” to “I choose you” and I really respect how consistently the book commits to that theme.
Where it lost me
(aka: where I needed more)
Plot takes a backseat
This is where it lost some of its impact. We have berserker rage, the Bride Market and the old oath conflict, yet there’s barely any action, minimal external stakes and only one battle that’s over quickly. Even the final confrontation is resolved through conversation and emotional closure which fits the theme but isn’t very satisfying if you’re expecting tension or a stronger payoff.
The premise vs execution mismatch
Based on the title and setup, I expected more time spent in the Bride Market, more tension around the “bought” aspect and stronger world-building overall. Instead the market shows up late and ends up feeling more like paperwork and scheduling than an actual setting. It came across more as a plot device than a fully developed part of the story.
Pacing felt slow despite the short length
This was short and it still felt like it dragged in parts. That’s mainly because it’s very conversation-heavy, introspective and focused on quiet moments. It works emotionally but it doesn’t always create strong narrative momentum.
Conflict resolution felt too easy
The big emotional and external conflict is wrapped up with “your oath is fulfilled,” and the rage just…releases. It fits the theme but from a reader perspective it lacks tension and feels a bit too neat.
Fast timeline (we’re talking DAYS)
Everything happens in about five business days. And while the magical bond and life-or-death situation help justify that speed, it still feels a little rushed when you step back and think about it. Overall, the story is strongest in its emotional beats, not so much in its plot development.
Final Thoughts
This is very much a “more heart than plot,” “vibes over stakes”, emotional healing disguised as monster romance kind of book. When it leans into softness, connection and quiet intimacy, it works. But the plot doesn’t feel as developed as the emotional core.

Read this as a fun palette cleanser. I chose it on Kindle Unlimited because I liked the cover. LOL Yep. Hi. I’m April and I judge a book by its cover. Flying blind I know nothing of the “Monsters’ Bride Market” series. Looking at the other covers, I likely won’t read another so this was enough for me.
Long story short, a healer saves a berserker and they fall in love. He’s taken aback because everyone fears him. He was nearly fatally wounded and she healed him. She wasn’t afraid of him, wasn’t afraid to touch him. He doesn’t understand this.
I love a strong, practical FMC. Our MMC… he was just sweet and gentle. I mean, until he went berzerker and wanted to kill kill kill, but other than THAT… their gentle intimacy and togetherness… the little things that ARE the big things. That was SO profound! The little gestures like hand holding… it speaks of intent. It just about undid me.
The only thing I truly didn’t understand was the whole .. “bride market” aspect because when they went to the city to BECOME bonded… why was she then auctioned? I didn’t understand that at all. I’m sure that’s in another book so I’ll never know but regardless, it’s a HEA (which I needed) so I was totally there for it.
It seemed they were each there to serve a purpose in each other’s lives… but the conflict he was facing which required her felt a little too neatly packaged. I felt like that should have been… more… So, regardless of that, I still thoroughly enjoyed it and it did 100% pass my vibe check for a quick, easy, read with a HEA.

These 2 individuals were on a trajectory of 8yrs, an odyssey, to find themselves at just the right time, in a forest, a ditch, where d3ath patiently waits to swoop in on a tall, hugeee soldier, a 9ft Bogatyr, deeply wounded.🗡️☠️🪦☠️
Good thing that headstrong, brave, realistically minded Maven, a healer, doesn't hesitate to help this man.🌿🪡🧵🩸🤲🏻🩸🫙🌿 She's a fair, strong woman. I liked her. She does the right thing and doesn't hesitate for one second in her decisions. Very assertive and outspoken. But not in an annoying way.😁 And in helping this broken protector, a simple act is now sealed with blood. It will create a bond that neither one will understand or how far it will take them.🌠🪐🌠🪐

Some sadness. Kovren, a man, who has always been careful with himself, meets a woman who accepts him as is and shows him to let go. Breathe, big man. It's okay. He gets chosen. How sweet! There's medium spice.💋🔥💋 I think I learned more about Kovren, his feelings, than Maren's. That isn't a bad thing. There's Mother Sanque and Rodvek tied to their story. Although I initially had to Google what a bogatyr actually was, Kovren quickly proves he’s far more than a glorified knight-errant. He’s nine feet of raw muscle, barely restraining a feral, berserker edge. And yet, when Maren first finds him, he’s not fearsome, he’s broken, bleeding out in a roadside ditch, clinging to life. Maren knows she should walk away. But she’s a healer to her core, and leaving someone to suffer isn’t in her nature. Saving Kovren, however, comes at a cost. As she stitches him back together, she unknowingly forges a bond, one that can only be severed when Kovren repays the life she’s given him. Over the course of their journey, he reveals himself to be far more than a berserker barely held in check—he’s not just fiercely protective, but touch starved and vulnerable as well, which makes him more relatable. One of my favorites in the series thus far🌟🔥💖
There was something about this story that spoke to me. Maren, a wandering healer who does whatever she can to help whoever needs help. She has a past that haunts her and drives her forward at the same time. When she finds Korven wounded from a battle her better instincts get pushed to the side and she does what's er it takes to save his life. Korven a Bogatyr ( all is could picture was Viking Berserker) and I don't think that description is far off. Build and oath bound to protect those that can not help themselves. He has been hunting a brother in arms for almost a decade. He lost himself to his Berserker rage and has become something else. Korven feels grief and guilt and has been trying to find a way to release his brother from the rages grip. Nothing has helped until he opens his eyes and sees Maren before him. No fear just acceptance and then he feels the bond that has sprung between them form her healing. Together they navigate their new relationship and try to find a way to help him free his friend from their depths of his rage. These characters are so beautifully written the story and the chemistry between them is strong. Their feeling go beyond love to something more. Short but addictive slightly different so hang on you won’t put it down until the last page has been turned. Maren a healer is so depleted from being used by others from her past when she finds a bezerker dying in a ditch her healer’s heart won’t allow her to walk away so of course she climbs into the ditch with him and heals him. Kovren a bezerker finds himself dying in a ditch wondering what he could have done to avoid being in the position he finds himself in but the moment the tiny human climbs in and begins to heal him something in him shifts. The magnetic pull is there for the both of them but so is the healing for the two of them both had has issues from their past and Maren shows us she is strong despite the situation she found herself in and Kovren we know is strong as all get out but we get to see his soft side but his that overprotectiveness we are going to find in all our guys but where are they headed and will it lead them to their very own happiness?

I loved everything about this story. It was different from other Monster's Bride Market books. She finds him bleeding badly, in a ditch. In danger of dying but despite the fear of knowing what he is, she is driven by her calling to help, and heal the sick, and hurt. No matter who or what they are. Maren ends up cutting herself on his broken rib, and her blood mingled with his. It awakens an oath, and he is now responsible for her life. As they travel together he begins to notice that the Berserker inside of him, is somehow becoming calmer. Kovren tells her about what injured him, and how he's been hunting him for 8 years. I loved how tender, and determined Maren is, and when they go to the Brides Market, and put their hands on the oath stone, and they feel the bond build, and solidify. Beautiful HEA ending. Trish. A

I so enjoyed this story. The flow of it from the very beginning was amazing. Maren- the female- a healer. When she came upon Kovren she did not hesitate she just did. And when the bond formed she just accepted. He on the other hand worried! This is not an instant love or really even a slow burn. But a love that comes from acceptance and understanding. She gave him what others had not. She was not afraid nor intimidated by him. He is a beast of a man with a beast within. They walked and talked and solved the questions and issues they had by reaching out to others.
I could not put it down. The feeling that came from them taking each step in their journey you felt too. The short epilogue at the end gives you a little inside look at what thier life will be like - which looks wonderful.

Another great book!
This is the second book I’ve read by this author and she did not disappoint! I love how much depth she puts in her stories and characters, especially considering how short they are! She’s able to portray so much in fewer and to the point words and it’s quickly making her writing some of my favorite. I’m not big on emotional stories but this one was awesome and perfectly evened out. It was emotional but on a very real level that doesn’t leave you stuck in sadness. All of the characters were great and intelligent. I also love how she doesn’t make all of the women stuck or desperate. Struggles happen in the storyline the way life happens unfairly sometimes, and everything is still ultimately the fmc’s choice and they’re not written to play helpless. I highly recommend this book and am looking forward to the next!

Good Read
This was a very nice read and somewhat emotional for me especially the dynamic between the two Bogatyr “brothers”. I’ve had personal experience with a close family military member who held the body of his dying best friend during war. It is a heartbreaking experience that will never be forgotten by the ones who have to go through that. Lia Frost handled that in her story with grace and honor. The only fault I found in the story was the continuity issue with the size difference between Korean and Maren (love the name by the way). I dubbed Maren “The Incredible Shrinking and Growing Woman”. Her size seemed to be all over the place. Other than that this was a very well written story.

This is the latest book in the Monsters' Bride Market series and in this one, we are introduced to Maren and Korven. Before I read this book, I had no idea what a Bogatyr was (if you're interested, it's a warrior from Slavic folklore. Essentially, a Knight, but eastern European). Like all the other books in this series, this too was a novella length story. It was short enough for me to finish it in one sitting, but long enough that it had enough meat to the story. The tenderness shared between the two MCs really shone through the entirety of the book. There also was a good balance between story and spice. Overall, another good read from this series.

So many of my favorite tropes in one book. This is getting a full five Stars from me. I loved it. First there's the size difference between Maren and Kovren a giant Bogatyr. Nine feet of it to be exact. Then there's the touch Starved aspect of it Kovren is definitely not used to people not being completely terrified around him. Followed by the literal giant is a sweetheart/Kind at heart trope. Then there is the classic touch her and perish. Korven is definitely the protective sort. This scratched so many itches at once for me. I absolutely loved it.

Bought by the Bogatyr is part of the multiauthor series Monsters' Bride Market this one by Lia Frost. This is such a sweet and unique story, a burned out healer and a Bogatyr the epitome of opposites but make the most sweetest couple. I really enjoyed how their romance played out slow but sure, tender and intense...perfect! I love reading multiauthor series the different styles of writing and I've found I like most stories but usually have a dud or two but this series is AMAZING one great story after another!

Bought By the Bogatyr is part of the Monster Bride’s Market series. Maren is a healer with three rules for when she is walking the roads. Three rules that she keeps track of, till she doesn’t someone needs her help and she can’t seem to pass it by. I loved this story! The storyline was different than a lot of others and it made it perfect, the characters were written beautifully and authentic. I loved this five-star read, grab it and the rest of the series and enjoy the escape.

One of the Best in the Series
I really enjoyed this book and both of the characters. The MFC is strong willed in the best way and the MMC is so careful around her. He’s massive and is used to scaring everyone he comes across, but our FC doesn’t scare easily and has no problem walking into a ditch and saving his life. A magical bond forms between them that changes both of them for the better. I’m a sucker for an overprotective, touch-starved giant MMC and this book delivers it.
I really enjoyed this book and both of the characters. The MFC is strong willed in the best way and the MMC is so careful around her. He’s massive and is used to scaring everyone he comes across, but our FC doesn’t scare easily and has no problem walking into a ditch and saving his life. A magical bond forms between them that changes both of them for the better. I’m a sucker for an overprotective, touch-starved giant MMC and this book delivers it.

I really loved this novella. It had a great storyline, and one of the best things about it was that it didn’t feel rushed at all, which can sometimes happen with shorter reads. The pacing worked well, and I really enjoyed Maren and Kovren’s story. Their journey kept me engaged from start to finish, and I found myself really invested in them. A very enjoyable read overall.

This story is unique in that it doesn't begin in the Bride Market but rather the beginning is a life saved and an oath spoken. Together Maren who is a healer and Korven a Bogatyr traverse small villages searching for Korven's brother. The oath blooms into a bond that is sweet and scary. The two make an unlikely pair but it works and their happily-ever-after is worth the read.

I really loved this story. It was well-written and well-edited, which is important, to me! I loved everything about this story, from how they met, until how the conflict was resolved. Maren's attitude about life was refreshing, no fainting flower, here! The world building was very interesting. I recommend this story to lovers of monster romance! I've enjoyed this author's work several times, never a disappointment!
