Very well written, full of drama, society, family, friends, debts, intrigue and marriage. Good storyline and the characters are all well defined with both personal and emotional growth. Lady Joanna is friends with Lady Penelope who doesn't want to meet Evan, called the Duke of Ice. Evan's mother is pushing for him to find a bride and have his heirs. Joanna agrees to go on a date with Evan and they find they have a lot in common. But of coarse society has to disagree with them being together. Curl up and enjoy their tale and for them to find their happily ever after. Would strongly recommend to everyone.
I received this story and leave this unbiased, honest review.

2.5⭐️’s because honestly my expectations were low going into it.

Neither of these characters were interesting, and the best part of the book was the first 15 chapters before it became a smut fest.

A lot of this felt like a historical romance that I would read in a manwha, I swear I’ve read something with a similar hook, but why they SO HORNY? You’ve met this guy twice and you want to jump his bones.

Overall, it helped me get over the heartbreak of the previous book that I read but it did almost put me in a book slump. Don’t read this.

This is a fun story. Joanna is the daughter of a viscount, but their family has fallen on hardship due to her father being a terrible gambler. Joanna had one season a few years ago but has hardly been seen in society since. She is close friends with Lady Penelope. Penelope’s parents are desperate for Penelope to marry so accept any dates offered by eligible gentleman. Duke Evan is being hounded by his grandmother to seek a wife and she arranges a date with Lady Penelope - the first on a list of eligible ladies the grandmother has devised. Lady Penelope doesn’t want to meet the notorious Duke of Ice so begs Joanna to go in her stead, encouraging her to be so awful that it will end any potential attachment. Joanna reluctantly agrees. It is highly entertaining to read her be rude, inappropriate and unladylike but Evan is intrigued and amused by her lack of fear of him and wants to see her again. The duke falls first but resists as he has never wanted to marry. He is a control freak underpinned by fear - the genus of which we slowly learn about. Obviously it is a love story but it also demonstrates how cruel and destructive the gossip of society can be. We see the internal struggles of our main characters as they fight their pasts, shame, false impressions, duty, honour and love before they find their HEA.
Overall it’s an enjoyable read and starts in a wonderful way but it’s a bit of a roller coaster in the middle third, where at points I was losing interest, but keep reading as you get gems before the final third is fantastically paced and utterly keeps your interest.

I was generously gifted a copy this book from the author and freely offer this review.

An Enjoyable Read

I enjoyed this well-written story. Duke Evan's mother was pushing for him to marry. He needed to find a lady to pretend he was going to marry. Miss Joanna's father had serious gambling debts. Evan arranged to meet ladies in a tea-room to get to know them. However, when he was due to meet Lady Penelope, she persuaded her friend Joanna to take her place. Evan and Joanna quickly found they were compatible but society was unforgiving about their relationship. Her father's debts were now well-known and if she did not have dowry any more, who would marry her? Evan was determined to overcome the problems. Unexpected external factors were working against him and threatened to separate Evan and Joanna but, when the truth was revealed, all settled.
I enjoyed the story but was not sure about Regency ladies going on 'dates'. Evan's mother had lined up twelve ladies for him to meet on a date. Regency ladies were so protected that it seems it would be unusual for any of them to be allowed to go on dates.

A Possible Romance

A story that could have been a great romance story. The title on the cover and title inside the book are different. A few editing mistakes occur in the book. First, the referral to “date”. The term was not used until 1890 and the story was 1820-30. Courting or an outing would better serve the time period. The modern language bogged the story down. Once the HEA occurred for the beloved sister to be absent made no sense. I have enjoyed many of Ms. Vixen’s books- just not this one. I look forward to a better book next time.
I received an advanced copy for a fair review.

3.5⭐️ it’s been a long time since I’ve read a historical romance and I always enjoy them. This was a cute story full of love and intrigue. I loved Joanna and Evan’s relationship with started out as a secret identity and evolved into a beautiful love. Joanna meets the duke when her friend asks her to go in her place. She asks Joanna to make the Duke of ice not like her so he will not court her. It backfires on them and the Duke propositions Joanna with a scheme till the end of the season. Of course they end up falling in love. Lots of scandal and mystery becomes involved in the story. Found some errors in the writing but overall a good read.

It had great potential but unfortunately there was nothing romantic about this story. The Duke was totally unappealing being very domineering, selfish and corrupting. Joanna was much younger and I found some of it uncomfortable. I think this story had the most explicit sex of the stories I have read from this author and I think destroyed any romance. I really didn’t like the garden scene the night before the wedding. A horrible Duke and a stupid girl.

Good book with a great plot, excellent characters and enough curiosity created to keep turning the page. It had way too much graphic content for me, as all her books do. I don’t like that, but her writing is so good I put up with it.

This started off cute, but the duke's illness was not believable and after a bit this book just droned on and on. The longer it lasted, the few stars I gave it.

She wasn’t really a swapped bride

You should always keep the names correct in a story. Mrs Lucas became Mrs. Long and her daughter Mary became Jane instead.

Never to marry.

He was afraid of rain and loving and losing someone so he would never marry. Her family was broke due to her father’s gambling.
