Alpha's Ruin: A Dark Omegaverse Romance with Rival Alphas

Rate this book
I killed an alpha with a whisper and a look.
Now every pack in North America wants me dead—or collared.

I’ve been hiding what I am since I was a Luna. Goddess-marked. Forbidden. The last of my kind.
Our power can bring alphas to their knees, which is exactly why Lunas are hunted, caged, or bred until there’s nothing left of us.

For five years, I kept my wolf silent. I stayed invisible.

Until Alpha Rowan tried to force me into his son’s bed.

My power snapped—and I ran.

Three months on the road brings me to Havenwood, one stop from freedom. One meal before Arizona.
That’s when Silas Veylor finds me.

Rogue alpha. Leader of the Nocturne Pack—a traveling pack of wolves who live outside the law. His wolf is fractured, split from the twin brother he was never meant to survive without. Silas smells the mate bond before I can escape, and for the first time, running isn’t enough.

Then my first heat ignites.

Instinct takes over. I bolt into the woods under cover of darkness—straight into the path of Malachi Veylor.

Alpha heir. Leader of the Blackthorn Pack, the original pack of Havenwood. Controlled. Lethal. He doesn’t hesitate. The bite he gives me doesn’t just claim me.

It breaks everything.

One bond. Two rival brothers.
A single wolf split between them—never meant to coexist.

The Wolf Council is closing in, and Luca Holt—the beta who’s protected me since we were children—is demanding answers I’m terrified to give.

I thought survival meant running.

Now I’m learning it means choosing who I’m willing to burn the world for.

Alpha’s Ruin is the first book in a dark, slow-burn omegaverse werewolf romance series featuring a powerful Luna, rival alpha twins with a fractured wolf, forbidden bonds, and pack politics that will decide who survives—and who claims her.

So, this book ended up being more confusing than it should've been. I enjoyed the book in the beginning, but as I kept reading, there were things that didn't make sense to me. From the actions the characters do to the continuity of the story.

This review does have spoilers! You are warned...

The characters, because some of the actions mentioned seemed confusing, as if a character would do something, but the next action seemed near impossible or had no proper transition for it to make sense. For instance, near the end of the book, when Neaveh and Malachi finally meet, it mentions that Neaveh's back is against a tree and Malachi is leaning a hand against it while being in front of her.

Her back hits the tree hard enough that the bark groans. My hand lands beside her head, fingers pressing into the wood to keep them from finding her skin.

But two pages later, he moves so that her back is against the tree instead of his.

The rough bark of the tree scrapes my back as I spin her, pressing her against it.

Another part, near the beginning, we are back in Nevaeh (Naevehs?) POV after Silas and her meet, where Silas is speaking with Malachi. I had assumed that they were all outside since the chapter prior, Malachi’s POV, they met up outside, Silas somehow being Yao King of the Rock, crouching on a boulder (? Where the heck did that come from??). But back in Neavehs POV, the following chapter, throughout her internal monologuing, it never mentions where she is before we are finally told she was in the car. No proper transition. No real understanding of space or setting. Just suddenly, oh, she is in the car and she was watching the brothers through the window the entire time. I honestly thought she was hiding in a bush not far from the brothers watching them, but, nope!

It was things like this that made the story confusing and had me rereading certain parts making me believe I missed something (or was going crazy).

Continuity, because at one point (the biggest thing that bothered me), when Silas and Malachi meet to discuss what to do about Neaveh (I have no idea how to pronounce that name), Malachi mentions that binding to her will destroy her because of their split wolves.

“We can’t,” I growl again. “You know what happens when the split pulls too hard. Our wolf isn’t whole, Silas. He’s fractured between us, two halves of one soul. If we claim her, if we tie her to this—” I slam a hand against my chest. “—she’ll feel it. The split. It’ll destroy her from the inside out. You know when a mate completes the bond with a split wolf it will drive her mad.”

But later in the story, during Malachi's POV again, he internally monologues that it was Silas who mentioned it.

Silas’s warning echoes in the back of my mind, the memory of our last fight cutting through the haze. If we claim her, it’ll destroy her from the inside out.

You can’t be sad or angry about not having her, rejecting the idea of bonding when you made the restrictions yourself, not your brother! I caught this imediately and it stuck with me throughout the rest of the book.

Then there is the ending when Malachi and Neaveh finally meet (they have never officially met at this point since the one time they were close, she was in the car and he was outside near the woods talking to Silas), after she ran away from Silas while in heat, Malachi and Neaveh just go straight into sex. No preamble, ignoring her words to stay away, the first time they officially meet in the middle of the woods, at night. And somehow he knows her name. Maybe Silas mentions it in the beginning when we watch from Neaveh's POV from inside the car, but it all seemed wrong. How could you go from rejecting the idea of a mate (from both Malachi and Neaveh), to then having sex on the forest floor and half-bonding??

And for some reason, I felt that the half-bond was not as strong as the starting bond that Silas and Neaveh had when she ran away. I figured, on a more deeper level, that a half-bond would've had a stronger effect the further away she went than one with no proper bond. But what do I know?

And then poor Luca. He was just there, not giving anything to the very slim plot line of the book. Only two chapters were from his POV when I thought there would've been way more, considering he seems to be a big part of Neaveh's life.

Overall, the story felt too rushed. There was no real connection to the characters; everyone felt flat. I was really hoping for more.

This was a very quick read. The book started off really strong, but then fell flat towards the end. Felt a bit rushed. I really enjoyed the twin duo dynamic, and look forward to seeing where that goes. Ends on a cliffhanger.

Neaveh is on the run. Away from her best friend Luca and the Ashbourne Pack. Because she killed their Alpha. Being a Luna is like a death sentence for her even though she was marked by the Goddess and Luna's are nearly extinct.
Silas and Malachi Veylor two Alpha brothers with one wolf split between them.
Silas leader of the Nocturne Pack runs into her at a dinner and knows she is his mate and takes her home to his Rogue pack.
Malachi leader of the Blackthorne Pack smells her as his mate as well when he meets up with Silas.
This story is suspenseful, lots of emotions, survival for all 3 of them, a bond that is pulling them towards each other. The council is closing in. There is no more running for Neaveh but she tries anyway. Fear drives her. And Luca is closing in on her as well. He wants her also.
It's exciting, steamy, also heartbreaking that they have to go through all the pain and fighting the bond that is known as dangerous. But is it really as dangerous as they fear? Can they share the bond? The council is keeping things pretty hush hush. So questions keep swirling around.
I highly recommend this book. It's an excellent read. The plot is unique. The characters are great.
This is my first book by Ravenna and I am looking forward to reading more of her books. And I am anxiously waiting for book 2. I need to know what happens next.
Happy reading to all you Dark Omegaverse lovers.

🖤 Dark Omegaverse Werewolf Romance 🐺

Review: Ravenna Cross starts a trilogy about Neaveh, a powerful Luna werewolf, and the men who would do anything for her. When Neaveh loses control and kills a powerful pack leader, she must run far away from the pack that wants to claim her. The Wolf Council is searching for the Luna so they can capture and possibly kill her.

When she stops in Havenwood, her scent gets the attention of twin rival alphas: Malachi and Silas Veylor (who share a split wolf spirit). This book mentions violence and danger. It takes some dark twists and turns while revealing the extent Malachi and Silas will endure in order to claim the intriguing Luna they both vow to protect.

Unlike some reviewers, I never give a synopsis of the book or reveal spoilers when I do a review, so this is my opinion on the merits of this book and the author’s talent and skill at bringing the story to life.

It appeals to readers who like dark, spicy books with a strong storyline and characters, heart-clenching moments, and ends with an emotional cliffhanger! I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Despite this book being so short I was bored out of my brain. Halfway through and I just want to throttle the FMC. Her wolf is so powerful yet shes so meek and quiet and constantly arguing with her own wolf. I understand the alpha's being worried about a bond as they are sharing a wolf but I feel like shes just being stubborn for a story line.

There was also so many small but annoying errors(?!) I kept picking up on.
For example the leather jacket. She was wearing it when she arrived at Silas pack as the ex girlfriend gripped the collar and said "this is his. He let you wear it. He must have felt sorry for you" but then when she wakes up in his bedroom and looks around she mentions the jacket on the back of the chair like shes never seen it before. Errrrrrm love you must have put it there 🤦🏼‍♀️

Its only little things but there was a lot of them

Alpha’s Ruin pulled me in from the very first chapter. The world of Havenwood is dark, intense, and addictive, with strong werewolf lore and plenty of tension. The characters are well written, especially the alpha, whose inner struggle and emotional depth make the story even more compelling.
The romance is slow-burn with just the right amount of angst, danger, and chemistry. I loved the mix of action, pack politics, and emotional moments—it kept the pages turning nonstop. The writing flows smoothly and the ending left me desperate for the next book.
If you enjoy paranormal romance with powerful alphas, strong characters, and a darker edge, this is a must-read. Can’t wait to continue the series!.

Ok I have to get this off my chest. Is it Neaveh or Neveah? Because it was spelled both ways in the book. I have a feeling it's the Neaveh but seeing as how I saw it spelled the second way more than a couple times...that bugged me.

Beyond that though.

I REALLY enjoyed this!

Neaveh lives in a wolf-pack community (although they don't actually shift) and she's not exactly favored by the leadership. When she realizes she's more than she thought and will be hunted down, she takes off! She realizes she's drawn to a neighboring pack leader (much to her dismay) who takes her in while she figures out her strength and where she belongs.

I LOVE that we have two pack leaders - who are brothers - who share the same wolf "soul" and are drawn to her! And the ending! Talk about leaving me hanging! Can't wait for book 2!

'Alpha’s Ruin is a dark, slow-burn omegaverse werewolf romance featuring a powerful Luna, rival alpha twins with a fractured wolf, forbidden bonds, pack politics, and a story that unfolds across multiple books. It does end on a cliffhanger, Books 2 and 3 coming soon.'

The characters drove the storyline and they were very compelling and complex and perfectly steamy together. Plot was intriguing and intense and well paced. World building was excellent and solidly drawn. Look forward to more from this world. Enjoyed immensely and highly recommend.

Book 1 of Havenwood Werewolves

This was such a great start to the series. This book is fast-paced, action-packed, and full of heat. I had the best time reading this book and didn't put it down till I finished it. Now I'm so eager for the next book in the series left on this cliffhanger with so many questions I'm looking forward to having answered. Ravenna Cross is an excellent storyteller. I loved the unique twists to this wolf shifter omegaverse.
With an exciting world and amazing characters, this book was easy to read and devour in one sitting.

This book was intense. Neavah was such a strong character in this book. She ran for five years until she runs into Malakai and Silas. Twin wolves that hate each other, but find that they’re both her fated mates. I loved how this pulled you and kept you turning the pages. Some wild twists and turns in this one. This was danger and chaos. And since to boot. I really loved this one a lot. I hope to read more from this author.

Plot holes!

I normally never put bad reviews but I had to stop at 38% because there were so many plot holes. *Spoilers: but in book 1 she spent 2 days with Silas, so how was he talking about all the time they spent together or how she was taking about movies they stayed up all night watching when she was literally ignoring him the whole time and spent 2 nights there! Then she left giving a whole speech to Nikki and Silas but in this book Nikki says that she left without saying a word. I feel like we are missing huge chunks from the book!
