Robin Leclair has had enough of Earth. From obnoxiously in love roommates to misogynistic coworkers, everything seems to remind her of how lonely she is. But when she signs up for the Human-Extraterrestrial Liaisons Program on a whim, maybe it’s time for her luck to turn.
“You have matched with Phyllorak!”
Phyllorak’s life changed forever when the Andromeda Galaxy was destroyed. His homeworld? Gone. His species? Almost extinct save for the few other males on the mining planet that is both his haven and his prison. As the months tick by, his ruts grow more extreme, until he signs up for H.E.L.P. in the desperate hope of winning the affection of a human female.
After months of late-night messages (what exactly does helping with a rut entail?) and flirtatious exchanges (she teaches him how to write spicy texts), Robin is ready to take a leap of faith with a sweet bat-like alien she has never met. And Phyllorak is no less eager for a chance to woo the intriguing woman he has come to know.
Will Phyllorak’s ruts be too much for Robin? Or is an acrobatic love ritual exactly what she needs?
Why you’ll love this spicy alien The a seven-foot tall bat-like alien with wings, a tail, and an extra-long tongue. The dating app, instalove, and Mars Needs Women (with a childfree HEA). The Multiple explicit open-door scenes, including ruts, unique alien appendages, and long-distance play.
Planet WLN269 Needs Women is a new shared world series that imagines what it would be like if human women decided to leave behind one male loneliness epidemic to solve another on a planet in the Andromeda Galaxy. All stories feature low-stakes alien-human romance stories, lots of steam, and a guaranteed Happily Ever After.
E.K. is an author of science fiction and fantasy romance. She loves writing about weird aliens and polyamorous relationships. When not writing she spends her time at Renaissance Faires, playing DND with her friends, and cuddling her husband and cats.
Phyllorak was such a precious baby and needed all the love and snuggles. He was insecure and tended towards assuming that Robin would want to leave. Robin was lonely and felt safe and cared for after connecting with him. She was sweet with him, a true black cat in nature.
Spice: 4/5
Triggers: mentions of misogynistic human men, and discussion of trying to conceive (FMC and MMC do not want children, but FMC talks with a friend who does want children), mentions of mass death from bioweapon (past, vague), mentions of capitalist issues
This is a monster romance/Romantasci romance that is spicy. Make sure you know what that means before reading the story
This was the first story I read in the shared world universe of Planet WLN269, and it has absolutely set the bar so high for the rest of the stories going forward.
It is so damn cute and romantic. OMG! I didn’t know I could love a bat-man so much and now I want one *insert crying face* Phyllorak is the MMC and the bat-man in question.
Robin is the human female who has a male dominated job back on earth as an HVAC technician. She’s having a hard time with people at her job taking her seriously. She also just seems lonely in general.
Thankfully, Phyllorak is also lonely as he’s like the only of his kind left, at least on Planet WLN269. They have a lot to connect with each other on.
The pacing of the story is like a medium-fast. Nothing felt too rushed and the writing was very engaging. I felt locked in to read this story in one sitting. Robin and Phyllorak are lovable characters that you want so badly to boink that when they do. You don’t want them to stop.
It is of course a HEA, but there’s no kids, which actually I think helps make the story hella romantic. I mean, besides all the stuff Phyllorak says and does that’s just so swoon worthy. They have a mating ceremony and it’s so damn cute and hot.
Be warned there is flight boinking and again, I need a bat-man in my life.
Such a great story to start my space adventure to Planet WLN269

Simply phenomenal. Please give me ten more just like this!
I was a little hesitant heading in because bats aren’t exactly known for their attractiveness. I now proudly and shamelessly screech from the rooftops that I am in love with alien bats! This one in particular.
Robin is a woman in her mid 30s, works in STEM and has the most adorable tuxedo cat. She’s resilient and passionate but also lonely. Phyllorak is the most charming of males. His echolocation talent comes in handy as a mining engineer which is super cool. He’s a tall, hunky cinnamon roll who can be gentle and also effortlessly throw you around. Such a winning combination. Ooft. The spice is it delicious AND it somehow kept getting better! Special peen features, flavour, rutting cycles AND creative positions. Glorp Yeah!
This didn’t feel like your typical novella because depth of connection was comparable to a full length novel. I loved every moment and the writing just transported me into a world which I never wanted to leave. It’s so refreshing to have a childfree happily ever after too. I had a perpetual smile plastered on my face from page one and I will be talking about this book to anyone who will listen (or can’t escape).
Be brave, get your bat on.
“In the silence between our echoes, I hear only you.”
Shout out to the wonderful EK Darnell and the planet WLN269 team for the ARC. My thoughts are exuberant but entirely genuine, your book lit me up from the inside. Thank you from your newest fan. .
I loved Robin and Phyllorak from “Going Batty For You” by E.K. Darnell. Darnell brought both main characters to life with so much personality, and they were easy to connect with. I enjoyed watching these lonely souls find each other across the universe and fall in love. There are some adorable miscommunications. Phyllorak is such an adorable cinnamon roll of a gentle (bat) man, until he goes feral and everything gets spicy! I read this sweet-and-spicy dopamine dump novella in one sitting and am looking forward to more in this shared universe and more from E.K.!
1 Shy, nervous bat alien 1 Woman branching out 1(+++) Rut cycles
Phyllorak is just so sweet and nervous, it was precious! So careful to not push her (maybe to her....dismay sometimes 🤭) and so concerned about her feelings.
Love reading about MCs in their mid-late 30s in a romance. In this one they're trynna branch out, find partnership, and become better versions of themselves.
I'm making this sound deep - don't worry its PLENTY spicy 🌶🌶🌶🌶
MMC is struggling going through heat cycles without a mate....FMC is happy to help, whether close or from a distance 👀
GORGEOUS nighttime setting. Imagine sitting in the grass on a beautiful cloudless night while your bat alien boyfriend performs sky acrobatics to woo you. 🌌🌟🦇
Robin, a lonely a cat Mom in her 30's and Phyllorak, a lonely bat guy in his 30's, both sign up on the new alien dating app. They bond over their loneliness, and she also finds out what a rut is.
I enjoyed reading this so much! I loved how their long letters to each other ended up getting shorter then ended up teaching him how to sext! He is so shy and respectful to Robin and its so cute! He's like the perfect "Golden Retriever" boyfriend.
-My favorite part- The Night of Resonance.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Please note that my spice ratings are entirely based on my vibes and likely relate directly to my state of mind, my hormonal fluctuations and the movement of the planets. All vibes, no science.
* alien X human * nature main characters * dating app * animal companion (an adorable cat) * special features on him? ✅ including barbs on his bits during his rut, peppermint flavored ejaculate with analgesic properties and a prehensile tail with a vibrating triangular tip. I whole heartedly approve.
This is my entry point into the shared universe novella series of Planet WLN269, and what a fantastic launch it is! Robin, human HVAC tech and all around strong grown woman, has been disappointed and disgusted by human men too many times when she fills out a dating profile to match with an alien male. Phyllorak is just as lonely - his home world has been destroyed, and he’s got no one of his own.
These two have the most adorable courtship full of messaging exchanges (and she teaches him to sext) before they meet face to face. This led to some amazing exchanges …. “I would push you onto your back and put my snout between your legs. Respectfully.”
Even though it’s a novella, the relationship never felt rushed. I was ready for some explicit spice way before our main characters. They’re much more mature than me.
There’s rutting and sky spice and they have adult conversations about their futures and hopes and dreams and both the spice and the emotions are so very well done!
Thanks so much to EK Darnell and the Planet WLN 269 team for the review copy. I cannot wait to devour the next entry.
I really enjoyed the story of Robin and Phyllorak — it was gentle, thoughtful, and emotionally resonant in a way that quietly sneaks up on you.
I loved how the story explored the differences between the human female main character and the alien male lead. Even though their differences are physiological and cultural, those differences were treated with care, and it was satisfying to see them find genuine common ground and love despite them. The handling of loneliness was especially strong. Phyllorak is lonely after losing his species and home planet, while Robin feels deeply isolated on Earth — and that emotional parallel made their connection feel very real and relatable.
The sense of community in WLN269-42 really elevated the story. The side characters added warmth and depth, and the inclusion of an alien wedding ceremony was a lovely touch that shared the cultural needs of an alien species while reinforcing that theme of belonging. Going Batty For You really worked for me because it leans into emotional connection, cultural exchange, and found community — especially when it acknowledges how universal loneliness can be.
This is for readers who enjoy gentle alien romance, thoughtful world-building, themes of loneliness and belonging, and stories where love grows through understanding rather than sameness.
I received this and other books as part of an ARC.
However, this is such an adorable short story! Robin and Phyllorak make such a cute couple, Phyllorak is so sweet and thoughtful, ready and open for love, honest and truly communicative, so there's really no problems arising from miscommunication or no communication at all. Robin is looking for a romantic and honest connection, she wants someone to share her life, love, and her everything with and hopes that Phyllorak will be that someone.
There's also Robin's cat, Aryanna, which just adds to the cuteness of the whole thing and texting/sexting! Which I really didn't think would be as immersive and fun to read as it actually was.
It's a short story filled with cute moments and even sweeter words shared between these leads, enough to make your heart melt and spicy scenes enough to make your panties damp. It's a light HEA that made me want to squeal with how adorable it was and also squeal for other things.
I was in a terrible mood last week, and this book really brightened up my evening. It's a feel-good short romance with a great steam-to-swoon ratio. Phyllorak is my favourite type of alien. He is the type of guy who is afraid that if he makes a wrong move, he will lose everything, but still, he is so sincere and so sweet. It's lovely to see his personality develop, even though the story is quite short. And Robin is a perfectly relatable female character. She's been through her fair share of bad earth dates and is almost ready to give up on love when she finds him. She's a bit scared, reasonably so, of the new life in space, but still she takes the risk. They really work together, bringing out the good in each other. The world is interesting, and the whole premise of an interplanetary dating app is delightful. Ah, and I really liked the childfree spin on the Mars Needs Women trope. All in all, this novella brought some fresh energy into my life. I really recommend it!!
Omgggg. Phyllorak!!! I love him so much. Sweet baby angel, protect our batty alien boothang at all costs. He signed up for the dating app for companionship after losing his entire family, friends and planet. Yes maybe also to help with his rut, but that wasn’t his main priority. He really just wanted connection and a companion and I adore that about him. The FMC Robin is awesome and I applaud how brave she was to just pick up to a new planet with her cat. Very sweet, spicy, all the feels. A great start in my Planet WLN269 ARC journey.
Tropes, TW, etc -Standalone novella, under 100 pages, in a shared world with other books in the series. -Spicy and sweet -Alien dating app -Human woman x male bat alien -Cinnamon roll MMC -Consent king, open communication -Size difference -Instalust/love -Knotting and ruts -She teaches him how to $ext -Minty, numbing gluckgluck -Flying spicy time -Childfree HEA -Explicit spice
I would like to start by thanking E.K. Darnell and the Planet WLN269 Arc team for allowing me the chance to read this ARC. All of the thoughts and opinions shared are my own!
Let me start by saying I hate bats. Like the thought of a bat coming near me makes me want to cry and never leave the house. Phyllorak though??? I would let him as close to me as possible, I'd let him fly me around with those gorgeous wings and take me to pound town in his rut.... Too much??? Probably but I love him that much. He's just a lonely guy who deserves the world.
They started out with the sweetest long messages getting to know each other and taking the time to talk and understand their situations. Cheeky little bat man does learn to sext though, and is instantly better at it than most men on earth if we're being honest.
If you want a cinnamon roll mmc who just wants to make a female happy, and has the most amazing ruts. Then this book is absolutely for you. Spicey and cute all the way through!
Robin is tired of her disastrous relationships with men decides to go on an Alien dating app something that is new to her. Planet WLN269 has 50,000 men to 1,000 women so it’s looking for women, the alien males are desperate for mates.
🪐She is matched with Phyllorak and like Phyllorak she’s looking for companionship and doesn’t want to be alone especially after the relationships she’s being having lately.
🪐 I love the way they were getting to know each other with Phyllorak explaining to Robin what going into rut means when she didn’t understand what it meant and when he goes into rut he the things he does to her 🥵🥵 and how he becomes obsessed and possessive of her. The euphoria she felt after being with him.
🪐Both Robin and Phyllorak were eager to find deeper connection and they found that with one another, they don’t have to be alone anymore. She’s the most beautiful creature he has laid eyes on and he is the most attractive male she has ever come across💕
This is one of the books I absolutely had to get my hands on from this series. I love the weird aliens and a bat is just yummy. Robin is a HVAC technician and she is not afraid of the work but her coworkers aren’t very friendly. So signing up with H.E.L.P. and going to a different planet for ninety days isn’t a big deal for her. She has a great pre-relationship going with her chats with Phyllorak. For being a big and tall man he is a complete gentleman and always self aware of others and his surroundings. Plus his baby swimmers are minty fresh lol. Loved this. He is in need of someone to help him with his ever increasing difficulty with his ruts. So finding Robin turns out to be the perfect match for him. His crew and friends make her feel so welcome. Which is a one eighty from her own experience on earth. Loved them and loved how this story felt like a full length read.
This was a cozy, chaotic little gem and exactly what I want from the Planet WLN269 series.
I am fully batty for Phyllorak. Robin is over Earth life and signs up for the Human-Extraterrestrial Liaisons Program hoping for something better. Enter Phyllorak, a bat-like alien who is massive, winged, deeply lonely, and genuinely sweet. Their connection builds through several months of messaging, including some very funny and very spicy lessons in how to send flirtatious texts, which made the jump to meeting in person feel natural for an instalove setup.
Phyllorak is an absolute consent king, and while his ruts are a major part of the story, he really wanted companionship first. The spice is explicit and plentiful, with unique alien anatomy, flying scenes, and long-distance play. I can't wait to read more from this series!
Going Batty For You by E.K. Darnell is a super cute and wholesome Bat-like Alien x Human woman romance. I loved this story so much. I really liked both of the main characters, Robin and Phyllorak. Especially Phyllorak. Every earth woman needs a Phyllorak in her life! Sweet and timid, yet possessive and obsessive only towards his mate, loves cats, AND listens to her when she talks and doesn’t forget anything she says! What else could a girl want?
This was my first read by E.K. Darnell, but it won’t be my last. I really enjoyed her writing style. I think that she did a really good job with Going Batty For You. It was a perfect addition to the WLN269 shared world series.
I definitely recommend Going Batty For You, along with all of the other books included in the Planet WLN269 Needs Women shared world series.
Gosh what a cute alien romance! I love the Planet WLN269 Needs Women series. All of these alien men are such cuties.
Phyllorak is the cutest bat alien you'll ever meet, and I want to steal him for myself. The bat alien signed up for the H.E.L.P program to find a human mate, someone to help with ruts-yes, but also a true companion because he couldn't help but feel a little lonely given the state of everything in his life. When he matches with Robin, it's like his dreams come true.
Robin is single, with not an ounce of luck in the misogynistic world of dating and douchey coworkers. Living with her two friends, who are together-she basically lives for her cat. A cat lady to the core for her. Robin thinks signing up for H.E.L.P is crazy, but then she meets Phyllorak and her opinion changes. This bat alien is nothing like human men, respectful, sweet, and a little awkward, Phyllorak and Robin hit it off right away.
The spice is spicing, from ruts, to mint flavored excretions that also hold numbing properties 👀, this is a wild ride. I love how Robin seems to teach him a bit at first, but we do really see how Phyllorak takes charge during ruts.
"In the silence between our echoes, I only hear you."
Robin never felt like she belonged, so after another terrible date she signs up for the new dating app where human women could find love on another planet with an alien male.
Phyllorak is lonely, looking for someone to share is life with and believes Robin could be that one.
This is the first of a couple ARCS I received for the world of Planet WLN269, and I loved it. A cinnamon roll MMC who will do anything for his potential mate. If you're looking for something different, a quick read, and a male who will do anything to please his woman I definitely recommend reading this one when it comes out next month!
4.25 stars. This novella is dual POV, well written, and a sweet and steamy, mail order bride, sci fi romance between Robin, the female human HVAC worker lead, and Phyllorak, the male bat alien mine worker lead. I enjoyed Robin’s willingness to initiate engagement and take the risk of relocation. I enjoyed Phyllorak’s openness to difference and to companionship without more. I enjoyed Robin’s initiation of intimate engagement and the steamy intimate scenes. I enjoyed the secondary character support and the happily child free ending.
I received a complimentary copy from the author and this is my voluntary honest review.
Be still my heart, Phyllorak is the sweetest, most perfect Batlike alien ever. The way he was so invested in Robin basically from the first time they communicated with each other was so cute. I loved that he was very respectful of Robin but would follow her lead when she wanted him to be a little disrespectful. Willing to be the denominator for the right partner indeed haha. The misunderstanding about what cats are will never get old. The ways Phyllorak tried to ensure Robin would feel useful on the planet were so funny and a little misguided but so deeply adorable. The spice in this is very hot and the way Phyllorak wooed Robin was perfect. I really loved this read a lot.
Planet wln 269 needs women!! that is the name of this whole series! omg this is an epic spicy super cute novella!
on earth dating apps we get a “you up!?” At 2AM, on H.E.L.P we get a page long message!?
(That was adorable and sweet and if I got a partner as caring as Phyllorak? I too would leave Earth.)
Aliens need love, humans do too, so an INTERGALACTIC dating service IS just the thing?
(Robin will teach him everything… and learn from him what a rut entails….)
between the adorable sexting, and teaching about what a rut intails, this IS a steamy read that will have you going batty and wanting to read the whole series!
Going Batty is a sci-fi romance with childfree HEA. “Yes, Aliens had literally made contact with Earth before Robin had found a partner.” With the help of the Centralized United Network Transmission System, C.U.N.T.S. – Robin is matched with Phyllorak a humanoid bat looking for companionship and someone to help him through his cyclical ruts “Glorp yeah!” Join them on this reckless and thrilling intergalactic journey through awkward sexting (respectfully) & space travel.
Another 5 star read for me - i LOVE a fancy peen ;)
All aboard Planet WLN269, this book was brilliantly written, a quick read full of companionship, spice and a cinnamon roll batty alien MMC you don't want to miss. Phyllorak is swoon worthy, sweet and a perfect fit for Robin. The book is a wonderful blend of humor, spice and plot. If you're a fan of alien romance, size difference, knotting/ ruts, and explicit spice this book is for you.
I received this ARC in a shared world with multiple authors. Thank you for the opportunity to escape into your story!
Ugh, this was way toooo cute! Phyllorak and Robin are both so painfully awkward around each other while sorting our their feelings, and this was such a great starting book to this series!
If only all men were as attentive as Phyllorak was with Robin and Aryanna, who while not the cat he expected, he became a great cat dad all the same.
Yes if: Dating app but with aliens & cutie giant bat man
No if: Shitty human male coworkers on earth make you say ick
🦇 Miner x HVAC Tech 🐈⬛ In a rut 🦇 Dearest bird 🐈⬛ Sexting 🦇 The Clapper 🐈⬛ Wooing
The second story in the WLN269 series and I AM OBSESSED. This story was so sweet between Phyllorak, a bat-like alien, and Robin that I even teared up a bit. Both of them having friends, living with others, but still feeling that sense of loneliness and need to belong emotionally squeezed my heart. Once they found each other, *chef’s kiss*. And I’m a sucker for a consent-driven gentle giant who may or may not need help during his cyclical ruts but is fine with cuddling. I ate this up and it was SO FREAKING GOOD. If I could, 10 ⭐️s.
“In the silence between our echoes, I hear only you.”🥹 Phyllorak is such a big sweetie! I love him and just want to run my fingers in his fur! I loved that Robin got out of her rut to go help Phyllorak with his (hehehehe, see what I did there?). Everyone deserves to live their best life and I love that for Robin! Phyllorak is such a sweetie, and I ADORE that he calls her his little bird! AWWWW! So sweet, so tender.
Overall 4.25/5 stars
I was gifted a copy of this book by the author. All thoughts and opinions are my own. Thank you!
I received a copy of this book from the author and am voluntarily leaving this review. All opinions are my own.
I loved this book. Phyllorak is the sweetest. He is such an adorable cinnamon roll with like 75% of a clue about what is going on. Robin fits so well with him and I love her. She is so understanding and sweet and again they just work so well together. For this being a shorter novella EK really knows how to make me fall in love with characters FAST, from their first interaction I was like oh I love this couple.
I loved this novella!! It was super hot and spicy 🥵🥵 Robin is lonely on earth and is tired of ending up with douchie dudes from dating apps that don't care about her and are only interested in one thing. She decides to take a leap and use H.E.L.P. to see if she can find an Alien guy that is a better match. When she does she has no idea that she would meet a charming and sexy Chirophex (bat like alien being) after arriving at WLN269-42 she meets friends and experiences a hot steamy romance like none she's had before! This book was easily a 5⭐ 4🌶️
Robin is sick of earth males and decides to take a chance on the new alien dating app. She goes into it with low expectations and quickly finds Phyllorak.
Poor Phyllorak has lost it all and is just searching foe companionship. Which he finds in Robin and very respectfully if I do say so myself.
It was both cute and hot.i definitely had a good time.
