Surviving a fight with an immortal necromancer should have bought Garrett some peace, but when the Princess he thought was dead shows up on his doorstep, any chance of an easy time slips away. Together with the Klein Family, Garrett will have to navigate a danger far greater than any he has faced in the dream world.
To make matters worse, his father now knows he is alive and is bent on using Garrett for his own nefarious agenda. Backstabbing merchants, cutthroat gangs, and nobles willing to use any and every means to claw their way into power have all set their sights on the up and coming Klein Family to get what they want.
Garrett will have to use every ounce of his wits, creativity, power, and endurance to keep from being pulled under in the swirling maelstrom of political intrigue sweeping the city.
Don't miss Book 4 of a new Fantasy LitRPG Series by Seth Ring, bestselling author of Nova Terra and Battle Mage Farmer.
About the Mixing Lovecraftian elements with epic fantasy action, mystery, magic, intellectual maneuvering, guild building, and a grim fantasy world where monsters from nightmares are creeping into reality, waiting to devour the already disabled protagonist, this LitRPG/GameLit series is perfect for listeners who enjoy exploring rich worlds and complex characters.
Seth Ring is probably one of my top ten favorite authors. He knows how to craft an underdog hero story. Of his many different series this one just sucked me in for four straight books. I look forward to book five. I did find a few mistakes and will list them on Goodreads. You can find this story being written on Royalroad as well.
Outstanding continuation of the series. It’s a bit convoluted but linear. Author has done a great job with story and it’s edited well. Read it in series. Book one is slow but necessary to build the world.
The plot is this book is interesting, and for the most part, well executed. I've struggled with The Dream and when events are happening there vs The Waking several times. I assume if you die in the dream you die for real, but how do the Flower Gouls get there? Do you always spawn where you feel asleep? The adventurers get a door to Dreamers Rest bar and then they can exit there but it's that Garrett's power or because he claimed the Inn as his personal domain? Can he make doors for his other locations? The climax here definitely confused me about what events were purely in the physical world vs The Dream and unknown liminal spaces. So, good overall but I world have preferred a more structured / comprehensive description at the end.
I originally tried this series because I love Seth Ring's works. After the first chapter in the first book, I was hooked. I love that it takes a disabled man and makes him into a formidable, yet reluctant hero and uses what would be considered nefarious means to help him become powerful. Read the books in order. This series is very well written and thought provoking. I enjoyed the series and like how Mr. Ring brings it all together at the end of this last book. Though this book has a definite ending, there is still a "hint" that it could continue, similarly to Mr. Ring's Titan/ Terra Nova series (read that series if you haven't already).
This was a short arc wrapping up what was started in the last book. Kingdom intrigue, demons, and super powerful people clash as the princess becomes the queen. Fueled by betrayal, Garrett must face his father as worlds collide. I hope Mr. Ring is planning on continuing this series as there is still so much story to be told, but this could be an end of series novel as well. A well written take on a hero who is paralyzed and missing his right arm. Very enjoyable.
I couldn't stop turning the pages. The story just flowed. Garrett continues building his power, and the storyline progresses in a new avenue, I loved that Ryn was more involved. I felt the world building was starting to explore the wider world outside the city. I can't wait for the next book. Hopefully, we will see more of the wider world and the nightmares that await! It's probably one of my favourite series.
This is by far the best in the series so far. Both in terms of story and in writing. I've struggled with the past couple books because the writing had issues, and that the editing didn't catch them, but those issues were gone with this book. And the story was wonderful and gripping, the characters are growing and learning and I'm so excited to see where this goes.
Garret story getting better after each books. The story continue after garret win war of the ruler with algamoth. His personality changed which is quite different from his calm demeanor.
The 3rd chosen is different from my expectation but on thr positive side he had become one of the powerful man. Looking forward to the next read.
the only problem is that the audiobook is not out yet, so it’s taken me awhile to sit down and read this. It does feel more like they’re setting up things to be happening outside of the city now, whereas the first three books are definitely the insomnia city arc. It’ll be fun to see how things play out from this point, highly recommend
The continued saga of Garrick who has managed to overcome his physical disabilities and become a major player in the city. This series is full of interesting powers and great imagery. For readers who enjoy a fully imagined world.
I can't even begin to tell you folks that this is a really good book and a great series. It has so many elements in it, kings, queens, monsters, ghosts, the mystical, the intrigue.. Stuff that dreams are made of.. lol
High 3 star. Overall a fun read and was better than book 2 and on par with book 3. Biggest issue is the overlap between all of the Seth Ring books. These series often feel like I’m reading the exact same story with minor variations which has led me to pull back from his writing.
