To celebrate turning another year older, Taylor and her closest friends head to her uncle's casino... chasing thrills, luck, and one unforgettable night. But later that night when the doors lock behind them, the casino reveals its true purpose... an underground game where chance decides who lives and who dies.
Forced into a twisted version of roulette, Taylor is made to choose colors on the wheel, each sealing the fate of someone she loves. The house always wins, and the cost of losing is far more personal than she ever imagined.
A chilling slasher horror about fate, guilt, and the deadly weight of survival, this story proves that luck runs out, and not everyone makes it out alive.
This horror thriller keeps you on the edge wondering who was next. Taylor and her friends go to the casino for her birthday only to end up with a night of unwanted. decisions made. I really liked this story.
This is a horror story that backs you in a corner and doesn’t relent with the torment. Multiple POVs that pack a punch. If I clever get invited to a back room at the casino, I’m running in the opposite direction. A fantastic read
“Money does strange things to people. It's a parasite that burrows under your skin.”
Taylor is about to turn twenty-five, and what better place to celebrate than a casino, where the lights never dim and luck pretends it loves you. She invites her friends for a night meant for drinks, bad decisions, and the hopeful clink of coins turning into something more. The plan is simple. The outcome is not. Once the clock hits eleven, the games stop being about money, and survival becomes the real jackpot.
Sorensen stacks the table with a cast built on shared history, messy friendships, and lived-in experiences. Every character earns their seat. Even the ones you grit your teeth at. Especially the ones you grit your teeth at. There is one character in particular I would gladly push onto the roulette wheel and let fate have a long, thoughtful conversation with them. These people do not just exist on the page. They reach out, grab your nerves and emotions, and tug. Hard.
The emotional pull here runs deep. Trauma, grief, love, loyalty. All of it churns together like a deck of cards being aggressively shuffled. And yet, beneath the damage and fear, the story keeps circling back to one truth: strong bonds can keep you standing even when the floor feels rigged against you.
Atmosphere-wise, Wrong Choice slips its arm around horror and pulls it close. The descriptions are vivid and claustrophobic, like stepping into a room you know you should not be in but cannot stop yourself from entering. Sorensen has always been good at mind games, at sending readers down twisting paths, but this one is darker. Heavier. The kind of dark that lingers and waits until the lights are off.
The pacing is quick and clean, the transitions smooth enough that you barely notice time passing until you realize you have read the whole thing in one sitting. I did. This is a chilling, mind-bending story that will absolutely make me side-eye doors that disappear a little too neatly into casino walls from now on.
If you are looking for a psychological thriller that takes a dive into horror, Pre-Order Wrong Choice now on Amazon and be ready for its release on January 29, 2026. This is one you won't want to miss.
I would like to thank Jessica Lynn Sorensen for the opportunity to Alpha/Beta/ARC for Wrong Choice. As always, all opinions and reviews are of my own volition. I have not been promised any compensation, current or future, by the author or publisher for a fair and honest review.
A birthday trip to a casino should mean champagne, laughter, and reckless luck—not a locked-door nightmare where colors decide who lives and who dies.
This story grabs you by the throat from the first spin of the wheel and never lets go. What begins as a glamorous night of celebration twists into a brutal underground game where roulette becomes a weapon and survival comes at an unbearable personal cost. Watching Taylor be forced to choose colors—each one sealing the fate of someone she loves—is absolutely harrowing. Every choice feels heavier than the last, and the psychological torment is just as sharp as the slasher elements.
The tension is relentless. Friendships crack under pressure, secrets rot to the surface, and the realization that this game was never random hits like a gut punch. The villain’s long-planned cruelty adds an extra layer of dread, making every reveal feel intentional, personal, and deeply unsettling.
Dark, clever, and emotionally brutal, this is slasher horror done right—where luck is a lie, guilt is inescapable, and survival is never clean. If you love high-stakes horror with twisted games, moral impossible choices, and a finale that lingers long after the last page, this one is an absolute must-read.
🎰🩸 The house always wins… and not everyone makes it out alive.
this book kept me on my toes and I didn't want to put it down. birthday night gone crazy! wondering what and who was next was keeping me going. I dont know that I could do what Taylor had to do but glad it ended like it did. twisty and scary too! I knew you couldn't trust family lol
Wrong Choice by Jessica Lynn Sorensen Narrated by Abby Filsinger 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Wow! A birthday game of deadly proportions! This is an intense and thrilling horror story!!
Taylor is excited for her 25th birthday and invites some of her friends to her uncles casino to celebrate. The tension and horrors that ensue are crazy!! Will anyone make it out alive after this party?
I listened to the audio version and the narrator did a great job!! I couldn’t stop listening until the end! I had to know what happened!
As a birthday celebration, Taylor and her friends go to a casino with hopes of leaving with pockets full of money.
Instead they are invited to their own special version of roulette where Taylor has to make choices that affect her friends and a handful strangers.
Will they survive the night or will there be some casualties? This book is gripping, tense and makes your heart pound as you turn the pages. Jessica is always will be an automatic read for me.
Review ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The Wrong Choice by Jessica Lynn Sorensen
What can I even say without sounding slightly… concerning?
I absolutely inhaled this book. Not read. Not enjoyed. No—inhaled, like some feral little horror gremlin who hasn’t seen daylight in three days and just found its next victim. Zero self-control. None. Gone.
From the moment this thing started rolling, I was strapped in whether I liked it or not and lucky for me, I really, really did. It’s fast, messy, brutal in that “this is so wrong but also… keep going” kind of way. The kind of story that feels less like reading and more like watching a horror movie unfold behind your eyes while you sit there grinning like you probably shouldn’t.
You take a group of friends, throw them into a casino, add one deeply unhinged decision-maker, and suddenly it’s not a night out, it’s a psychological bloodbath with a side of “well, this escalated quickly.” It’s twisted. It’s uncomfortable. It’s exactly what you signed up for.
And look, I’m not going to turn into a spoiler-spewing menace, but let’s just say this book checks boxes like it’s ticking off a murder-themed grocery list: • Atmosphere? Thick enough to choke on. • Friend group? Questionable life choices included. • Disturbed family dynamics? Oh, absolutely. • Birthday party? Yeah… not the kind you post on Instagram. • Creative violence? Disturbingly inventive. • Mind games? Constant. Relentless. Personal.
Nothing happens “just because.” Every messed-up moment has a reason—warped, sure, but still a reason. And honestly? That somehow makes it worse… and better.
This is the kind of book that leaves you closing it with a smile you probably shouldn’t have. The kind where you sit there thinking, well that was fun, and then immediately question your own mental stability.
So yeah, if you’re one of those people (you know exactly who you are) who finds true crime oddly comforting, who can watch something like Terrifier alone in the dark and sleep like a baby after… congratulations. This is your kind of “cozy.”
Grab your blanket, your emotional support creature—cat, dog, snake, existential dread, whatever works and settle in. This ride doesn’t slow down, it doesn’t care about your feelings, and honestly? That’s kind of the appeal.
Four stars from me. Not because it didn’t hit—because it did—but because I’ve read horrors that crawled even deeper under my skin and refused to leave.
And one last thing? Maybe don’t mix money with life-altering decisions.
Life is a series of choices, and Jessica Lynn Sorensen proves that some consequences are darker than we can imagine. Wrong Choice isn't just a book; it’s a disturbing journey into a world where money strips away humanity. The atmosphere of the casino is fascinating and chilling—it takes so much more than just your cash. My Experience: I felt completely immersed in this story, almost as if I were part of the twisted game myself. It has a distinct "horror movie" energy that kept me glued to the pages. I read the entire thing in one sitting; the narrative is so sharp and direct that you simply can't look away. The Twist of Emotion: While the ending left me satisfied with the quality of the writing, it also left a bitter taste in my mouth. I honestly wanted a much darker fate for the villain! However, that’s the sign of a great author—Sorensen knows exactly how to make you feel every emotion, from fear to frustration. Final Thought: This story is a powerful reminder that while we all make mistakes, every choice is a lesson. If you want a book that is raw, real, and visually stunning in its darkness, this is it. Jessica Lynn Sorensen has earned a permanent, special place on my bookshelf.
One of new favorite authors really outdid herself here—to the point where I kept thinking, does she need a wellness check? (Affectionately. Mostly.) I had that thought more than once while reading, and I loved every second of it.
The opening hit me right in the chest. The sections about Sarah’s mother and her condition were tender, raw, and heartbreakingly intimate. It felt heavy in the quiet, emotional way that lingers with you… and then they walked into the casino and the book absolutely lost its mind.
From there, the story goes from zero to WHAT THE HELL in record time. I had multiple moments where I had to stop and just stare at the page, wondering how someone even dreams up twists like that. The turns were shocking, chaotic, and delightfully unhinged. I went from emotional, to stunned, to mildly disturbed—and yes, that is very much a compliment.
Bottom line: I can’t recommend this enough. It’s easily one of my new favorites from her. And for the record, I will not be attending any birthday trips to a casino with friends anytime soon. Absolutely not. 🎰😅
Let me just say that greed ain't (yes, ain't lol) no joke!! Mess around and obtain something more than money 🫣
Chileeeeeeee!! Taylor is the birthday girl in turning 21 and wants to go to the casino that her Uncle Ron works at with her friends, Sarah, Owen and Jace. Mira ended up being Jaces plus one. While everyone is supposedly having a good time, once the clock strikes 11pm, Uncle Ron invites the crew in for a 'special game.' And there, my friends, is where everything went left 👈🏽🫣
All that I could say was, 'Naw Man!! Don't do it. Don't go!!' Whatever happened to going out to dinner and getting started with the drinks?! Granted that at a casino the drinks will flow (and for free at that🧏🏽♀️🎉🩷) but if it isn't a slot machine, I don't want to play no special game. Not👏🏽tat👏🏽tall! Uncle Ron got me messed up 🙅🏽♀️😠
This book of lovely speaks from several POVs but it flowed through so nice! If you a good read where you want to see what fun and family drama is about, read this here. You won't regret it!
Who doesn’t love the thought of a night out at the casino with your pals celebrating a big birthday? Well. Our birthday girl, not so much. Turning 25 is a big one for most. No different for Taylor who gets her friends together to celebrate. She’s a quarter century old and things aren’t exactly going the way she thought. But tonight may bring some changes to her world. She’s been presented with a unique opportunity, and with a little luck, things may turn around. Unfortunately greed and some wrong choices may cost her more than she’s willing to gamble with.
This story had me hooked immediately. I also love the way Jessica is able to get you to have very strong feelings of empathy AND hate for nearly all of the characters. Including the villain. As always, a lot of her humor shines through in the writing.
5⭐ Review — Wrong Choice This was such an easy, fast-paced read that had me hooked from the start. What begins as a simple birthday party quickly turns into something much darker and more dangerous, and I couldn’t stop turning the pages to see what would happen next. The pacing was spot on—no slow moments, just constant tension and twists that kept me engaged the entire time. I also listened to the audiobook, and the narrator did an amazing job bringing the story to life, which made the experience even better. If you’re looking for a quick thriller that keeps you entertained and on edge, this is definitely one to pick up.
Jessica is one of my favorite authors. I have read everything she has written and plan to continue to do so because she is a consistently great writer! She has such original and intriguing ideas and can put them down on paper like no one else! She had a couple of books that were among my favorites last year and I think this one will be among my favorites this year!
This book is the perfect combination of suspense and gore. I could not put it down!
Woah. What a trip. “Wrong Choice” by Jessica Lynn Sorensen is an intense thriller horror that pulls you in fast and never lets go. Dark, brutal, and nerve-wracking, this story explores revenge, guilt, and the fight to survive. I will never look at a roulette game the same way again. The tension is relentless, the choices are horrifying, and I could not put it down.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ What does a girl do for her 25th birthday? She goes gambling with her closest friends, of course! But what she doesn't tell them is that there is an ulterior motive behind it. One that they will never forget! Another great book from Jessica!! She never disappoints! I'm excited for her next book!! Bring it on!!
Holy hell! What was that?! Such a good book, quick chapters, kept me engaged from the start. Chapter 10 is where it got wild and strange and disturbing and I couldn’t wait to read more, I finished it in one sitting. I loved the characters, I felt Taylor’s terror, and her pain. I really loved this book.
Well Damn! guess I will be questioning the plans for my birthday this weekend. So much for just wanting to have a good time and celebrate. Jessica does it again with Wrong Choice. Be careful because the choices you make could cost...everything.
What a roller coaster ride of fear and anxiety! Taylor goes to her birthday celebration at the casino, and they get stuck in an underground game they were not ready for. It’s a game of chance, deciding who lives and who dies.
I read this in one day, and absolutely loved it. Five stars!!!
A fun, gory, quick read but too descriptive for me, the repeated hyperboles and similes made me lose interest. This wasn't my taste but don't let that stop you, reading is so subjective - you might love it!
5 🌟 Review. Wrong Choice (ARC), by Jessica Lynn Sorensen.
Taylor chooses to spend her birthday with her friends at her Uncle's casino. She really needs the money and would love a big win! Her Uncle Ron gives her a thousand dollars to play with - which comes with a 'catch' - her boyfriend Liam is NOT invited that night. Taylor finds this weird but accepts the deal.
They all have a great time at the Casino, and late that night, Uncle Ron invites them out the back for a 'special' game. They quickly find, once trapped inside, that this is a game where colours choose who lives or dies. And how....
Taylor, the birthday girl, must select the colours which will then decide people's fates 😱.
She soon realises that this game is not random but has been planned by her Uncle for a long time.
Will anyone survive this sick and twisted game???
WOW!!!! I had a hard time putting this book down. This is my ninth book of Jessica's, and she consistently shows up with descriptive and chillingly good prose.
Friendships are put to the test and family truths from the past surface. I honestly felt like I was right there amongst this horror - hearing the screams of terror and even smelling the fear in the room. Taylor's guilt is palpable each time she is forced to choose a colour...
This book releases at the end of the month, go pre-order it now guys!!!!
Thanks Jessica, for yet another brilliant and jaw-dropping read 🥰
