All bets are off when a cruel prank and a case of mistaken identity throw a shy omega and a wounded alpha together under sexy circumstances
Linus
When my identical twin brother, Lucas, begged me to go to a job interview for him, I grudgingly agreed. Only it turned out not to be an interview at all, by brother tricked me into taking his place at one of his Dark Fantasies Club events. And the alpha I ended up with is definitely something straight out of a dream.
But it turns out my brother is involved in bigger things than pranks, and now Saint and I are stuck in the middle of real danger…and I’ve just gone into heat!
Saint
Dark Fantasies Club is supposed to be a way to practice control and keep the bad memories at bay. But when my play partner turns out to be a sweet, scared omega who needs my help standing up to his brother, I go into full-on protective alpha mode. Things get even worse when Linus’s brother turns out to be involved in genuine criminal activity.
Can I keep my omega safe, get him through a surprise heat, and protect us all from a criminal gang, or will the ghosts of my past mean I’m the one who needs a hero to take care of me?
His Plaything is a steamy, fast-paced omegaverse story that involves a good twin and an evil twin, overcoming past trauma, and a sting operation to bring down a criminal gang…all while juggling a life-changing heat!
First let’s start with please please please mind your triggers. While what happened isn’t real, the MC didn’t know. To him it was real. So his emotions, his complete fear, is on page. And while we as a reader know it’s not real it can be hard to read. And I must admit, while I’m usually ok with books like that, I need to be prepared before going in. So for anyone who has triggers this is me telling you they are there.
Beyond that it was a great book. I wanted more. I wanted to follow this couple beyond this moment. They were perfect together. I loved how they supported each other, talked with each other and protected each other. I love when the s in a Ds relationship took charge a few times and stood up for himself. And I love how one MC stood up for himself. But I needed more. I wanted to see them meet the family. I wanted to see how they integrated their lives together, I wanted more. That’s how good the writing and spice was. And I totally enjoyed the over the top characters and situation. If you are a person who needs the book to go by irl laws, this isn’t for you. I didn’t mind I was too wrapped up the MC’s and his brother.
I’m hoping for a book with Fenn next.

I'm in a quandary with the tale, the main characters were, shall we say, entertaining, and their experience was interesting, it was just the rest that kind of frustrated me. It started off great, the drama and then attraction was perfect, but once they were at the house it was just half sexy and a quarter odd and a quarter boring I'm afraid.
A fun, angsty story of a good twin and his unexpected alpha, complicated by the illegal activities of his bad twin. Lots of emotions, passion, and a beautiful forever love.
His Plaything is the fourth book in the ‘Omegas After Dark: Omega Auction’ series. It stars Linus, an omega twin, and Saint, an Alpha. This is told in first person from Linus and Saint’s pov.
I was worried that this book would be too dark for me because Linus had no idea about the kidnapping. He was stripped and paraded in front of a crowd of Alphas. He thought he’d be raped, tortured or trafficked. Considering the real current events of what’s happening in the country right now, the fact that Linus didn’t know it was real, would be traumatic for him. The people who have been kidnapped by ice, imprisoned in horrible conditions with no rights, abused, some dying, and not knowing what would happen to them, yeah, this story has triggers for anyone with empathy.
I don’t know if it was because the author didn’t lean into Linus’ trauma as much, or because Saint quickly perceived that something wasn’t right with Linus, which helped alleviate some of the darkness of Linus’ situation. Saint knowing how to deal with people suffering from trauma, helped him figure out why Linus wasn’t acting like the usual omegas who come to play at the club. I liked the way he gave Linus space, validation of his feelings, and helped to fix the ‘joke’ that Linus’ brother, Lucas, played on him. The owners of the club were informed, and they were shocked and apologized, but I felt that they should have apologized more deeply. It would’ve been nice to have read how they fixed the problem at the club.
The situation at the beach house was fun to read. Lucas was a piece of work, the total opposite of Linus. I liked how the author worked in some crime and light detective work. I liked Saint and Linus and thought they made a good couple.
There was one scene I didn’t think worked. At the beach house Saint and Linus had to take pictures of the cargo in the van, but there wasn’t enough light since it was night. They went back to the garage to get flashlights and ended up having sex first. They go back to the truck for pics and then go back to the house for something else. The sex scene could’ve been added after they took the pictures thereby deleting the walk back and forth to the garage twice. There wasn’t a reason to go to the garage to get a flashlight. The phone they use to take a picture has a flash. Also, there’s a ‘night-mode’ setting, at least on my phone, where the camera brightens up the image so there’s no reason to get a flashlight. It works incredibly well. So, the flashlight dilemma threw me out of the story, and I had a difficult time focusing on the story because the flashlight scene didn’t make sense to me.
His Plaything was entertaining. I’m glad the author didn’t lean to heavy into the kidnapping and trauma, because it’s far too close to what people are currently experiencing. I do wish the trauma and ‘trick’ had been more resolved than what it was in the book. I liked Saint and Linus as a couple. The flashlight and truck dilemma didn’t work for me. I give this book, 4 Stars.
I received an ARC from the author. This is my honest and unbiased opinion.
Here's MM Farmer's newst series, Omegas After Dark: Omega Auction, which is a spin-off from her Omega's After Dark series. This is "His Plaything."

Just when you think MM can't get any better (even though you think that every. single. time). She just does. Her books are never boring, they're never overly cliche, and they're somehow all unique and repetitive while all fulfilling the same theme.
Plus these two?! D: Both desperate for...something. They both battled their own securities while falling hopelessly in love (without realizing it...or without their brain realizing it; their hearts and souls definitely knew).
Not to mention all of the additional stress and danger.
All of while so much fluff and sweetness (and spice to HERE) to make your teeth ache, in the best of ways.
Trigger Warnings: evil twin, gang, violence, threats, trauma, ptsd, smuggling, and more.
This is another installment in the Omega after Dark auction series.
The books can be read in any order and arebasically stamd aloans. It's only the actual auction parts which is introduced in the first book and remains the same set up.
Linus is a very shy omega I really love him. Unfortunately he has an evil twin and this twin used him to plaay pranks on him all the time and this time takes it far too far: he arranges that Linus thinks he is pretending to attend a job interview but ends up in the Omega auction.
Luckily the alpha who buys Linus is one of the most amazing ones MM Farmer wrote so far.
I really love Saint, Saint is suffering from grief and guilt, a lot of guilt. He survived a tragedy when he was a child and still can't cope with the onslaught every year at the anniversary of the tragedy.
When it comes out that Lucian has up absolutely no idea and it's not willingly to be an auction off, Saint breaks the scene and both confront Lucas; unfortunately they also end up straight in a gang related action where Lucas shows us true colours.
Going into heat while trying to sort out a gang related acctivity is maybe not what they originally planned so this part of the book is also a bit funny. Constant heat waves while trying to sort out stolen merchandise, setting up a police stint and trying to insure the safe is actually one of the best parts I've read in a long while by the author,
I really enjoyed these characters Linus learns a lot about himself. He learned that he doesn't have to be a doormat. He learns that there are people who love him, who really support him, who bring out the best out of him.
Saint finally find somebody who accept him ,who helps him and support him in trying to finally come to terms with what happened 20 years ago and that his life can go on doesn't have to be guilt and grief stricken. You want to cheer for these two, you want to really hug them and it's a really good happy ever after .
I think I now want to go back to the normal Barrington world and get Fenn his own book he is an amazing alpha, dealing with Lucas was so much and he needs his own happy ever after in my opinion now.
1st person, past tense, dual PoV Linus Cahill (mid-twenties), omega (bubblegum), primary school teacher (first grade) Saint Boscoff (30), alpha (sandalwood), grief and trauma counselor
I love mistaken identity, and this was a really good (but also really awful) take on the trope. When the author describes one twin as good and the other as evil that is no exaggeration. It's sad how easy it is to normalize truly terrible behaviour from those we love and should love us. I really, really dislike Lucas for what he put Linus through and honestly hope there is no redemption story for him; sometimes it's just nice to have a villainous character to hate.
My heart absolutely broke for what poor Linus endured after showing up for what he thought was a job interview in his brother's stead. Saint, for all his own trauma, was so calm and comforting once he realized what was going on that it was easy to see why these two fit together so well.
There was a great balance of spicy times and story times. I loved seeing Linus come into his own in both facets. Saint's steady presence and support really helped him find his backbone and tap into that core of steel he had developed over the years.
Underneath all of the chaos with the criminal activity there is a sweet story of support and acceptance that went both ways. Feeling unworthy and being loved any way until you suddenly feel worthy. It was so swoony.
This author's omegaverse books are comfort reads for me when I'm not sure what to dive into next or I want something easy to enjoy while in the bath, etc. I love that I can bounce around her world without any issue (for instance this is the first of this series that I've read).

Things get even worse when Linus’s brother turns out to be involved in genuine criminal activity. The fourth book in the series & my favourite so far. I simply loved Saint & Linus, there’s a strong connection from the word go. Saint is so protective as well as caring – in fact toe curlingly gorgeous. Linus thought the auction was real & was terrified but it gave him the push needed to confront Lucas. Things get tense & dangerous when Lucas’ activities come to light plus both twins come into heat. A well written brilliant book which I read straight through. Strong characters & a fast paced story made me one very happy reader I voluntarily read and reviewed a special copy of this book; all thoughts and opinions are my own
A shy omega, Linus, is tricked into attending a Dark Fantasies Club event in his twin brother’s place and ends up paired with Saint, a protective alpha with a painful past. Their unexpected chemistry collides with real danger when Linus’s brother’s criminal ties surface—right as Linus goes into heat. Together, Linus and Saint must survive a criminal gang, a surprise heat, and their growing bond.
This book delivers a surprisingly heartfelt punch beneath all the heat and chaos. Linus and Saint’s connection is the standout here—gentle, instinctive, and protective on both sides. Linus may be shy, but he has a quiet strength that Saint recognises immediately, and Saint’s steady, grounding presence gives Linus the safety he’s never had. Lucas, on the other hand, is deliciously awful. His manipulation and selfishness make him an easy villain to root against, and his actions throw Linus and Saint into danger that feels genuinely high‑stakes. What I loved most was how fiercely Linus and Saint protect each other. It’s not just alpha instinct or omega vulnerability—it’s two wounded people choosing to stand together. Their bond grows fast, but it feels earned, tender, and exactly what each of them needs. This was an MM story with mature content set in the Omegaverse with MPREG.
I love when there’s action and danger in my omegaverse stories. It makes it so much more interesting and enjoyable.
I love it even more when the quiet omega comes into his power and becomes more confident and bold.
Linus and Saint were so good together despite their initial meet up. Talk about mistaken identity and giving your heart a jolt.
Linus thought he was doing an interview as a favor for his twin brother but ended up at a pretend auction. To say he was terrified is an understatement.
Can I just say what a POS his twin was? With a brother like that who needs enemies?! I wanted to get into the book and kick his behind for being such a jerk.
Loved how protective Saint was. He was such a green flag despite looking scary. He was the strength Linus needed to stand for himself and no longer be a pushover.
He just needed someone who would have his back and support him when he needed it most.
Linus and Saint story was whirlwind of emotions and situations, as not everything is what it seems, the stakes are higher than ever when certain things come to light and the magnitude of all is revealed. They both have insecurities, and a troubled past, they have doubts and are uncertain they deserve happiness, and to top it all they have to work on their communication to avoid misunderstandings and heartache. It had plenty of danger and adrenaline, as well as unexpected developments when all the factors weren’t taken into consideration. I liked how they both came stronger and a better version of themselves as the bond between them give them confidence and allows them to explore new things.
This series is one of my favorite types and it just keeps getting better. Linus and Saint are both such good characters and they have been hurt in different ways. I really felt bad for Linus and all that he was put through by his brother Lucas. This book starts with excitement and has a lot more adventures to it, all in between Saint and Linus going through his heat and those scenes (if you know what I mean). I am amazed by how many different types of situation that MM Farmer is able to think up to fit into the Bangers and Mash universe. I wonder when we will see Lucas, the bad twin again because he feels like he would be a great redemption story character.
"Lucas always had more fun than I did. Granted, I wasn’t sure I liked his sort of fun."
This is book 4 in MM Farmer's Omegas After Dark: Omega Auction series. I really enjoyed this one and it might be my favorite of the series. Merry did a great job with this one!
Linus' twin wasn't mischievous or a prankster he was downright evil!!! I wanted to punch him out myself. Lol. How the heck could a twin do that?!?
Hurt/comfort, betrayed by one's own brother, early heat, spur-of-the-moment police sting, the perfect decoy
Wow! It was really good! I love this author's Omegaverse books and this was excellent. The hurt/comfort and the development of the two main characters made the storyline intriguing with a precise combination of emotion, action and great sex scenes (when Linus learned about his kinky side it made me happy for him, he was sure he was vanilla. So cute!) Highly recommended!
His Plaything, Omegas After Dark: Omega Auctions book four is more of a romantic suspense story than I expected, although still full of the heat and heart readers expect from MM Farmer. Linus and Saint are a perfect pair, and I love the ways they each need the other to find their own confidence and recognize their own strength. Note, the start of the book is stressful, and there is on page PTSD, so keep that in mind. 4.5/5 rounded up.
I don’t know what I was expecting from this book! But wow! I got more than I thought! It was amazing! The addition of Linus thinking it was a real auction was quite thrilling, and I love how caring and worried Saint was the whole time!
Also love the bit of action with Lucas mischief and drama! So cool! And surprising!
I absolutely loved this story. There might be a few triggers in the beginning but this story was so good. I loved the story line and how it was so fast paced and full of surprises. There was a lot of action and yet there was still an extremely emotional bond.
I was very much not a fan of Linus' brother, Lucas. I know we're given the basic info of his deception in the blurb of the book, but interacting with him in the story just made me hate him even more. And Saint's perfect qualities were enhanced by how well he protected and cared for Linus during all the conflict and confrontation. While it's clear Caden & Hamish didn't themselves do anything wrong with their process, as they didn't know Lucas would be so diabolical to his brother, they definitely need a few more safety steps in their process to prevent the sheer terror that Linus went through with DFC, even if he was never truly in danger. I was happy to see how well Linus & Saint connected, as it was very clear their fate was with one another. I liked that there was vague mention of their fate being intertwined in another way, should they have not made their connection the night of the omega auction.
His Plaything was another great read with the Omegas After Dark series. I love that each story, while tense and occasionally stressful, brings together perfect matches between compatible Alphas and Omegas, even when they're not aware they have that additional kinky compatibility.
I received an authorized copy of this book and am volunteering my honest review.
