Book Nine in the series Pride & Prejudice & Potions.
Lydia wants some spending money, the chance to travel, and—more than anything—to see where things might go with George Wickham. Solving a murder is not part of the plan.
But when trouble follows Lydia and Wickham to a snug ski-town, complete with falling snow, crackling fires, and far too many secrets, their cozy getaway turns deadly. With a killer hiding behind friendly smiles and the resort cut off by winter storms, Lydia soon discovers that romance and homicide make poor travel companions.
As suspicion deepens and danger closes in, Lydia must decide how far she’s willing to go to protect the man she’s falling for… and whether trusting her abilities will cost her everything.
Because if confronting a killer is the only way to secure a future with George, Lydia is ready to brave the cold, the truth, and the secrets buried beneath the snow.
A charming cozy mystery filled with wintry vibes, gentle magic, sweet romance, and just enough danger to keep the cocoa hot.
Lydia is just out enjoying a nice date with none other than George Wickham, one of the musicians in the Grey Doors band, when they discover one of the band mates has been murdered. Unfortunately, George has a past that makes him an immediate suspect, he also happens to owe the deceased money, so that doesn't look great for him. On a whim, Lydia and George decide maybe getting out of town for a few days would be their best bet. But, leaving town only makes George look more guilty. Lydia is determined to prove George's innocence, and find the killer herself.
This story is quite the whirlwind romance! Neither Lydia or George quite expect the turn of events when they arrive in a cozy ski-town, only to have Darcy let them know what a terrible idea it was to run away. Darcy makes a bit of an outlandish suggestion, so that their sudden departure from Austen Heights doesn't look like the guilty fleeing town. Lydia is completely on board with this idea, and excited to be the first of her sisters to do this! While on their cozy getaway, yet another tragedy strikes, it seems the murderer may have followed them. Lydia is more determined than ever to clear Wickham's name.
I love learning each character's fae ability with each story, and Lydia's ability is seeing auras. This gives her a sense of someone's mood, or personality. She is able to use her gift to try and find the murderer in the story. Lydia is determined, and won't let anyone stop her from finding the true culprit. Lydia is also not worried about George's true nature, or any of the gossip that has surrounded him.
You will have to read this one to find out the murderer, and see how George and Lydia's story begins!
Also, I love that Lydia is gluten free, and that their is mention a couple of times of her eating gluten-free food. For those of us who cannot eat gluten, it is nice to see that represented in a book, and mentioned while the character is eating, which really reinforces the fact that at every single meal, we do have to eat/hope to find gluten-free options.
Some fav quotes: "He was like lightning cast against a cloudy sky. Butterflies fluttered in my stomach. It wasn't quite fair that he was so attractive and so talented."
"My future husband-though he didn't know it yet-showed up the next afternoon around three, and of course, Mom answered the door."
"The idea of eloping was so...so...stupid. Well, and super romantic. I kind of loved it."
"Eloping with a vampire rock star, trying not to get murdered or framed. being trapped in some tiny ski town. At least it was an adventure."
"I breathed in the scent of crackling fire and pine. Being snowed in at a cozy cabin with George Wickham should have been the dream of a lifetime."
Thank you so much to the author for a copy of this book!
Lydia has to risk her life and her family's reputation to try and clear Wickham's name and solve a murder. With suspects in the band, it's hard to trust anyone, but someone killed the band manager and is now threatening them too. Everyone thinks Wickham is the prime suspect with his troubled history, but Lydia is determined to prove he's being framed, and do whatever it takes even a spontaneous elopement as a distraction and cover. It's a cosy winter mystery, with a determined witch protecting her new rockstar husband.

I really wasn't sure how Lydia and Wickham's marriage was going to work in this version and was pleasantly surprised at how well it fit. Lydia's full speed ahead personality definitely made this book. whether she's planning out her life with her future husband (without his knowledge) or solving a murder mystery, she'll definitely be keeping him on his toes. Seeing Wickham's side of things in thr next installment will be quite interesting.
"My future husband—though he didn’t know it yet—showed up the next afternoon around three..." 💙
Another fun instalment in the Pride & Prejudice & Potions series and I really enjoyed getting to read Lydia and Wickham’s story. I liked seeing Lydia step into herself, particularly as the stakes rose and she had to trust both her instincts and her magic. The cozy mystery element was well balanced with the romance, keeping things engaging without ever feeling too heavy. Add in witches, vampires and gentle magic and it made for a very enjoyable, easy read that fits perfectly within the tone of the series. The marriage of convenience setup worked so well for their dynamic too, especially as feelings started to deepen alongside the mystery. This continues to be such a fun and comforting Austen-inspired world to revisit.

Another wonderful installment in the Pride and Prejudice and Potions series! Lydia’s story delivers a fast-paced blend of romance and murder mystery that kept me turning the pages.
I loved finally diving into the last Bennet sister’s story. Lydia was exactly how I imagined her- carefree, full of life, and impossible not to enjoy. It was also really interesting to see George Wickham in a new light; getting more of his backstory helped me better understand why he’s so often misunderstood.
The murder mystery kept the plot moving, and I had fun watching Lydia and Wickham’s relationship grow alongside it. At times the story felt a bit too fast, jumping quickly from one moment to the next without much of a pause, but that didn’t take away from the overall fun of the read.
And that ending… it definitely leaves off on a bit of a cliffhanger, and I am absolutely here for it! So excited to jump into the next book!
Lydia is such an interesting character to read about! Her relationship with Wickham and the decisions that it seems that he pressures her to make in the original book are really not my favorite. This story shows a nicer side of Wickham but I still definitely see him subtly pressuring Lydia to do things she likely wouldn’t choose for herself. He is a better man than in the original story but I still wouldn’t classify him as a “good” person. It so interesting to read this authors take on his character and Lydia’s story! I liked the setting of the winter lodge. It set up for a cozy adventure and some interesting plot devices. Thank you to the author for giving me an advance copy of the book to review!
I received this book as an advanced reader copy and want to thank the author for allowing me to stay on this arc team. So I’ve been reading most of the Pride, Prejudice and Potions books and I absolutely adore how they stay true to the original character but give them a modern day twist and honestly a deeper character development. Lydia honestly was my least favorite Bennet sister in the original writing because she’s childish and idealistic. In this novel they write her as an adult working through a college degree when the opportunity strikes to meet the man she’s always liked from afar. When Lydia and George start dating of course that’s when tragedy strikes and someone they know was murdered. After trying to figure out what was going on Lydia receives a threatening note so her and George decide to leave town. The murder was then solved and they were free to return but while they were away something changed in their relationship.
loved reading about Lydia and her whirlwind romance and marriage George Wickham. I always thought Lydia was very young and carefree and just fun all around. I feel like her personality resembles that of Mrs. Bennet the most compared to the other sisters. Lydia's relationship with Wickham developing while solving a murder mystery in a cozy inn was fun. I liked seeing hints of each of their personalities and seeing how they meshed together. Also seeing how George was misunderstood and understanding his point of view better. They make a great pair, her being carefree and fun while he was more careful guarded and protective of her. It was so sweet! Can't wait to learn more on Wickham and Lydia's relationship in the next book.
I love how Rebecca captured the excitement and head over heels feeling to spend a lot of time and stuck with the person you like most - surreal and magical in its own way, even if it shortlived and turns into nightmare instead. It's beautiful to see Lydia's character in depth, how unique her magical ability is, how far she will protect George and unfolding the mystery on her own, while we get to enjoy the cute romance brewing and some of George's story on the background. Set in the festive and snowy vibes, it's nice cozy read with a sprinkle of mystery and tense. thank you for the ARC opportunity.
This book has a great mix of romance and flirting with suspense and drama, all wrapped in a cozy mystery. It can be read anytime, but pair it with snowfall and a hot chocolate to match the wintery vibes.
I appreciated getting more of Lydia's side with this story. She's often perceived as the shallow, flirty Bennett, and it was nice to hear her side of things.
Thanks to the author for the early copy! All opinions are my own.
I liked the twist on how Lydia and Wickham eloped. It fit in the story well. The mystery in the book was sad once the whole story came out in the end. I did enjoy seeing Lydia and Wickham's relationship grow through the book even with all the drama. I look forward to seeing Wickham's story next.
Next to Mrs Bennet, Lydia was probably my second least favourite of the Bennet family. This book though showed me a side of her I really really liked. Someone you‘d like to have on your side as a friend. A wonderful redemption arc so to speak.
And again, the mystery…when you‘re thinking you got it solved and yet again it‘s not who you it was.
The final Bennet sister gets her chance to shine in this whirlwind cozy romance featuring a marriage of convenience and a murder mystery.
Lydia Bennet has a plan to make George Wickham her husband. It's still in its early phases, but she has faith that it's going to work. After weeks of guitar lessons with Wickham, Lydia has finally scored herself a date with the elusive rock star. The date goes amazingly well until the two find a body and Wickham is brought under suspicion. After a serious of unfortunate events, Lydia and Wickham find themselves fleeing from Austen Heights in the hopes of escaping the killer. When the murderer follows them to the ski resort, Lydia and Wickham must do everything in their power to solve the case before the killer successfully traps either of them alone.
I was surprised to find this has been my favorite book in the series thus far! I always thought that Lydia was a bit of a brat, but I came to really enjoy her character. I was super interested to see how Lydia and Wickham's romance would go down in this one, and I must say, I am one hundred percent sold on it!
I tend to always start talking about the MC's fae powers first, so I guess I'll discuss that now. Lydia has the ability to sees people's auras, which allows her to learn a bit about a person's personality as well as their current mood and emotions. I think this is a fitting ability for Lydia because she is such a people person, and she can actually analyze people's auras to help her navigate her way through conversations with people. An ability like hers would be completely wasted on me, because I am so bad at reading people and reacting in the proper manner.
As the prequel novella laid out, Wickham is a vampire. This gives him a few unique abilities, such as heightened strength. It mostly carries negative effects that causes him to need to eat rare meat constantly and limit his time in the sun. I was intrigued to see how vampires worked in this world close and personal, but they honestly seem pretty chill. Hopefully, we'll learn even more about this species in "Wickham's Story."
The murder mystery in this one has got to be my favorite yet! I was genuinely worried for Wickham and Lydia's lives because the killer was directly targeting people related to Wickham's band. Once they discover that the killer followed them to the ski resort, I was seriously convinced that one of them was going to get seriously hurt. Not killed, obviously, but this one pulled at my heartstrings because I really wanted Lydia and Wickham to have the chance to be happy together. The snowed in trope was utilized in this one too, which had me even more anxious because they were trapped with the killer!
This one features a huge event in the "Pride and Prejudice" story line, being the elopement of Lydia Bennet and George Wickham. I was interested to see how this would be done in a modern setting, and I feel that Yockey did a great job with this story element. It may not have made one hundred percent logical sense, but Lydia is enamored by Wickham and she is such a go-getter that it worked for me. Also, Lydia and Wickham care for each other so deeply, even if their marriage is sort of a sham.
I'm super excited that Wickham's story is next, because it is essentially a continuation of the events that happened in this one. I am really looking forward to seeing how Lydia and Wickham work through their new marriage, though I am quite concerned if they have to witness another murder already. These poor newlyweds.
Overall, I ate up "Lydia's Story" and found myself not wanting to put it down. The suspense in this book was done perfectly; I actually feared that something awful was going to happen to our protagonists before this book was through. The beginning of Lydia and Wickham's story was so romantic, and I'm so excited to see how part two plays out in the next installment!
Thank you Rebecca for allowing me the chance to read an advanced copy of Lydia's Story. The seemingly calculative yet reckless youngest sister has always fascinated me when she away with Mr. Wickham, and I LOOVE how Rebecca worked this story into her own! I was excited to read Rebecca's take on her story, and can't wait to read Wickham's story next!
genre: Cozy paranormal romance rating: 5🌟 NO SPICE but I wish there was because it would have most likely been a 6🌟 read
📖abt the book: *Pride & Prejudice retelling *Supernatural beings & enchantment *Fae-witch x fae-...🩸 *Murder mystery *Insta-attraction *Eloping
🏍️my thoughts: WHAT A GREAT FREAKING WAY TO START THE YEAR.
This is probably my favorite of the three P&P&P stories that Rebecca wrote, and definitely up there amongst the other eight stories so far! I loved how Lydia's personality was captured with how she pursued Wickham, no matter the consequences. And Wickham! I thought he was a skeevy character in the original story, but I love that he leans more so on the good guy but can make bad choices bit. I'm really interested in how his story (I guess both of their continued story) will go down!
What I really love about this series is that even though all of them are mysteries, you're still guessing throughout the book. Some of the shmurderers are easier to guess than others, the one in Lydia's story was both shocking yet not, if that makes sense 🙂↕️
Though I wish Darcy had a more physical and active role to their elopement, as he did in the original story, I LOVED how it was mentioned about his focus on the Bennet family, and one Bennet sister specifically (;
Join me in falling in love with Austen Heights and the Pride & Prejudice & Potions series that only has three books left!!

This was such a fun and cozy installment in the Pride & Prejudice & Potions series, and Lydia's story completely won me over. She's no longer just the impulsive, shallow Bennet sister-instead, she's vibrant, determined, and surprisingly perceptive, especially with her magical ability to see auras. That gift adds an engaging layer to both the romance and the mystery, and watching her trust her instincts as the stakes rise was incredibly satisfying.
The wintery lodge setting created the perfect atmosphere for a whirlwind romance mixed with danger. Lydia and George Wickham's relationship develops quickly, but it fits her all-in personality, and the tension of a murder investigation keeps things moving at a fast pace. I loved seeing Wickham portrayed with more depth-still flawed and complicated, but far more human and understandable than in the original Austen story.
The mystery kept me guessing, the romance was sweet and dramatic, and Lydia's growth felt like a true redemption arc. Cozy, magical, and full of twists, this book made me genuinely excited to continue on to Wickham's story next.
Lydia’s Story is a cozy marriage of convenience fantasy romance with murder mystery, magic and enchanting winter vibes. This story was fast paced, exciting and just so fun to read! It is book nine in an interconnected standalone series inspired by Jane Austen. The romance was very sweet, and I loved seeing the natural development of Lydia and Wickham’s relationship as they put on their detective hats to solve a small town murder together. The only thing that left me confused is why Lydia mentions that she “can’t have gluten.” As a Celiac girlie who can totally relate to needing to eat gluten free, I really wanted to know! I am hoping that answer will be revealed in the next book. Lydia’s Story was the perfect amount of sweet romance mixed with cozy mystery, witchy magic and wintry vibes. I love the Pride and Prejudice and Potions series so much and can’t wait to read the next installment! It is definitely a series I see myself rereading!
Thanks so much Rebecca Yockey for a copy of this ARC!
Lydia can see aura’s and has fallen for George Wickham’s forest green. On their first date they discover the body of the band manager Alex Adler. Can they solve the murder and clear Wickham's name to live their happily ever after or will they be the next victims?
A light and fun New Year’s mystery. A wonderful exploration on Jane Austen’s character of Lydia Bennett. Page turning twists till the end with a high body count! More interaction between Darcy and Wickham in this one as well and I can’t wait for the next installment to see Wickham’s Story.
I enjoyed this rendition of Lydia‘s story. She’s still self centered and obsessed with Wickham, but a little more mature than the Regency era Lydia. When Wickham’s band manager is murdered and the Bennett bakery set on fire, Lydia and Wickham go on the run until they can figure out who to blame. Of course, that makes them both very suspicious. I thought this was an entertaining quick read, another great addition to this intriguing series. But to get Lydia‘s happily ever after you do need to read Wickham’s story.
I really enjoyed Lydia’s story, from the flirting with the rock star (wickham) to them eloping with a murder or two to solve in the middle. Lydia buts her own life at risk and her families reputation to do everything she can to prove Wickham’s innocence and solve the murders that are piling up. I am curious as to where the relationship between Lydia and Wickham will go and will it survive another murder. A well written story with the right amount of mystery, intrigue and of course magic.
I received this advanced copy from author and this is my honest review.
For Lydia, there’s no such thing as a bad day or settling for things not being the way she wants. She takes advantage of every opportunity within her reach.
When she wants something, the chances already feel real. That’s how it was with Wickham. She sensed something in the air and bet high, believing everything would conspire in favor of what her heart desired.
Although this book jumps right into Lydia pursuing Wickham and doesn't slow down, I really enjoyed watching them get to know each other. They balance each other out and she does a good job of getting him out of his shell. The mystery aspect was interesting, but I really want to know more about Wickham's history. I cannot wait to learn about it in his book!
I really do just have the funnest and most quaint time with these novels!
I loved how Rebecca portrayed the “scandal” of Lydia running off with Wickham! So clever and very fun! Lydia is a fire cracker and I love that her personality shines through in this book! I look forward to reading Wickham’s story next!
Absolutely loved this book. Lydia and Wickham are so cute together. This whole series has been so fun to read. Its cozy and sweet. I just love how Lydia does her own thing. Wickham seems to have a troubled past. Highly recommend
This book has all the elements of suspense, mystery, and romance that will keep your turning the pages to find out what happens next. I loved that Wickham was a rockstar and that Lydia’s dream came true!
A review copy of this book was sent to me by the author. All of the above opinions are my own.
I enjoyed Lydia and Wickams story. I liked how it was diffrent from the previous books and more of a whirlwind ignore the red flags kind of romance. But it fit them so well. Along with the murder mystery and characters from previous stories.
Can't wait for the next one.
Thank you to the author for the ARC all opinions are my own.
