Ren (Unit 734) is a "Scrubber"—a digital janitor in the belly of a warship. His job is erase. He deletes love letters, birthday wishes, and desperate pleas from the data stream to keep the ship’s systems efficient. He is a ghost in the machine, stripping humanity out of the code to make room for weapon schematics.
But Ren has a secret. Buried deep in a hidden folder, he hoards fragments of the things he’s supposed to a line of poetry, a snippet of a song, a memory of a flower.
When the Subjugator arrives at the planet Veridia with orders to "sanitize" the surface, Ren discovers an anomaly that shatters his worldview. Down on the doomed planet, in the crosshairs of the orbital guns, a bio-engineered monster is tending a garden.
Caught between the crushing order of the Empire and the messy, vibrant chaos of life, Ren must make a choice. He can remain a perfect cog in the machine, or he can become the glitch that brings the whole system crashing down.
