Just wrapping up Book #2 and I"m already sad there's only one book left in this series. Ms. Eugeena is a joy to read and follow along on her sleuthing exploits. The author does a great job with the pacing and plot twists in this story. I was just as engaged with the subplot as the main plot, and satisfied with the endings shared for both. I am also loving the developing romance between Eugeena and Amos! It warms my heart to watch it unfold and I am invested in these characters! Looking forward to seeing where it leads and what happens in the next book.
The second book in the Eugeena Patterson Mystery, Moody opens with some familiar characters and plenty of new ones waiting to earn their spot in your life. From the opening Louise quickly becomes a favorite and you will root for her until the very last flick of your finger. Something is happening in the small town of Sugar Creek, SC. First Eugeena’ neighbor Mary is murdered (Book One; Deep Fried Trouble) then the son of her friend Louise is shot right next door to Eugeena’ house and if you know Eugeena Patterson like I do that is the first invitation for her to get involved. The next is it happened in Sugar Creek. Her investigative curiosity and the loving way in which she cares for people is what makes her mysteries so filling and it doesn’t hurt to have Mr. Amos Jones as your partner in crime. Eugeena and Amos made me smile watching the fuel that ignites their curious mind and heart. Thinking of their style and how they support the other’s plans displayed even more care for each other. As you begin your journey in Sugar Creek you will laugh and feel a sense of pride at these two, they are my favorite retired crime stoppers. This book and Deep Fried Trouble (Book 1) could both be read with or without the other, but I suggest you read them both not just to support the author, but they are really good quick mysteries. 5 bookmarks
Neighborhood Snoop Eugeena Patterson is at it again and she will not stop until she gets to the bottom of the situation and solve the crime with her side kick Amos. I am really enjoying this series.
Eugeena has quickly become one of my favorite characters. Getting ready to turn 60 and retired and she’s busier than ever. When her friend Louise is trying to recover from being attacked months ago and while in a nursing home her son William has stepped up to make decisions for his mother that turn out to be selfishly motivated. Great fun fast read.
This one was better than part one. My girl Eugeena be on it. Trying to solve crimes and keep her family intact. Our very own Murder She Wrote in a book.
Great mystery! Eugeena Patterson is a retired school teacher, blogger, widow, and grandmother. She has super snoop skills that lead to a life changing discovery. Her faithful sidekick Mr. Amos is not a gentleman-friend, he's just a friend, of which she adamantly tells everyone.
"What exactly are you up to, Mama? You're not snooping around are you?" (kindle p. 62)
This book has a great plot, good writing, and a cast of memorable characters. Definitely plan to read more of this series!
This was a great story about finding your daughter that you had to give up and then connecting with her. The author did a wonderful job on writing this book. Was hard to put down.
This was the second novel of Ms. Moody's Eugeena Patterson's Mystery reads. And again we find Miss Eugeena of Sugar Creek, South Carolina has taken on a new job from being over the Neighborhood Watch since now there was something new on the horizon...her best friend is now in a nursing home. But why had Louise been put into this place? Now what will happen as Miss Eugeena starts up her snooping once again? What will happen when Miss Eugeena finds someone in her best friends room and claims to be Louise's granddaughter? I loved how Miss Eugeena's neighbor [Amos Jones] who was a retired police detective was their to help her in the solving of this mystery as the story gets even more intensed after a murder has been committed in the neighborhood and then also friend. I loved seeing Ms Eugeena starting up her investigation through her curiosity that she has been known to do so very well. I will stop here because I don't want to give any more of this well written story away. I did find all of the characters well developed, defined, portrayed and believable helping to make this a very captivating and interesting read that will definitely keep your attention wondering what next is up with Miss Eugeena. Be ready for a good read that will cover elder abuse, racism, Alzheimer's disease, interracial dating and maybe even a budding relationship coming up.
Thank you Tyora Moody- Miss Eugeena is back, and still snooping around like a pro :-)
In Deep Fried Trouble, we learned that Miss Eugeena takes Neighborhood Watch to a whole new level. There she just about got killed solving her friend Mary's murder. Now she's got a new mystery to stick her nose into.
Her best friend Louise has been sent to live in a nursing home by her son William, leaving Miss Eugeena alone to do her snooping. What should have been a normal Sunday visit turns into a startling revelation about Louise's past from a mysterious young woman. With the help of her handsome neighbor (retired police detective Amos Jones), Miss Eugeena sets out to put the pieces of the puzzle together, including figuring out who committed a shocking murder in her own neighborhood.
This was an easy, pleasant read about an extremely likeable character. Miss Eugeena could be anybody's mother or grandmother; she's easy to sympathize with and to root for. I also felt for Mr. Amos- trying to keep a nosy woman like this from getting too deep into dangerous situations looks like a life's work!
I look forward to more Eugeena Patterson Mysteries in the future.
I enjoyed this. Didn't realize until I started reading that I'd read the first one a few months ago. So, it was nice to pick this up and know it'd be a good read.
I figured out the who early on, it was the why that took longer. Also, enjoyed the little, mystery within the mystery.
Eugeena Patterson is still on a mission to protect her neighborhood. Louise son William decides to put her into a nursing home. William made a decision to sale Louise house. William is shot at the house one night, but the police do not have a lead. Eugeena is on case with the help of Amos. Eugeena was able to discover several secrets while trying to figure out who killed William. Good read.
Miss Eugeena is as nosey as my mother, and that's going to get her in a world of trouble, as it did in the second installment. I just love these stories in this series.
Gotta love Eugeena and her mind. She will get a case solved better and faster than the police lol. I hope her and her Amos really give love a try. You're never too old.
EUGEENA PATTERSON is not happy about her next-door neighbor, Louise Hopkins, being sent to live in a nursing home by her estranged son William. Without her fellow neighborhood watch buddy, Sugar Creek isn’t the same anymore. In fact, life after retirement has become a whole new adventure of exploring social media and diabetic blogging. While she tries not to meddle into her adult children’s lives, Eugeena can’t help but dish out relationship advice. Eugeena’s own budding romance with Amos Jones has her emotions in upheaval. Is she really finding love again as she turns sixty? When a stranger reveals a stunning secret about Louise’ past, she was once in love and had a child with a black man, who was later killed for his involvement with her. Now Eugeena questions if the young woman Jocelyn’s claim that she’s Louise’s granddaughter is for real or if she is a con artist? Roping in Amos for help, Eugeena digs up a few skeletons from her elderly friend’s closet. When Eugeena stumbles upon a long-forgotten murder case, she realizes the layers of a long dormant secret still have the potential to be deadly.
Surely, that was my first thought because had book one not been as good, I would’ve never pick up book two.
Moody does an excellent job with the lead character Eugena who is seemingly now exploring a gift she abandoned in her early years. Sort of reminding me....you are never too old to do what you were put on earth to do.
The family dynamics that set the tone for a look back into the past, was remarkable. Especially, since the reality is that what black men were murdered over seems in this day to be the most prominent choice for those of prominence. Another book, another lesson.
Anyway, Moody does excellent in her weaving and untangling of the facts presented within the case in this book. I would definitely recommend this read to women of all ages but especially to those I’ve forty readers. You have to enjoy a good mystery to appreciate this book. I gave it ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️!
I'm so invested in this family I want a part three, like WRITE NOW Tyora! This book was good from beginning to end. Very fast paced and kept me flipping its pages. I want more from Eugeena, Amos, and even detective Wilkes. I loved that the author clearly listened to reviews and readers from part one. I'm so happy I didn't let the first book deter me (which was a good read, but not that much of a mystery) from picking up book two. The one and only con I can think of off the top of my head was with one character. I wish the readers had more detail as to what happened to the character Pat. She was obviously one of the many mysterys, so why not give her some more wrap up details and tell us what really did happen to her. Other than that, it was a beautifully written mystery novel that I thoroughly enjoyed.
The author is back with her witty, weird and wonderful, relatable characters and some new questionable characters. If you read Deep Fried Trouble, the arm-chair detective, Eugeena Patterson is pushed into another mystery when her neighbor, Louise Hopkins is placed in a nursing home by her self-centered son, William, but there are sudden revelations and an event that I didn’t see coming, which makes for a page-turning, jaw-dropping read with some extraordinary dialogue, expressive surroundings, the fusion of the past and the present, deep-rooted secrets, and lies, and scandalous revelations. The plot will keep you guessing to the very end, remaining us that what is done in the dark will eventually come to light. I am hoping that Eugeena and Amos will open a private investigation agency in the near future.
Eugeena Patterson‘s neighbour Louise is put into a nursing home by her son William. When William shows Louise‘s house to a potential buyer, he is shot. And moreover, all is not well in Louise‘s nursing home. Eugeena and attractive neighbour Amos are out to help Louise in more than one way.
I like the way Ms. Moody describes Eugeena: She’s not young and kind of a super hero, but a real woman nearing her sixtieth birthday. She’s still attractive, her feelings are not dead, and she’s got humor.
The story has enough twists and turns to keep me interested and enough humor to make me smile. It’s for readers who like clean cozies and don’t mind an occasional mention of belief in god or praying.
Well Miss Eugeena is at it again. Her investigations and just plain character, are so hilarious and highly entertaining. I have come to dearly love these cozy mysteries and am sad that there is only one left in this delightful series.
I would highly recommend this book and series to anyone who enjoys cozy mysteries.

When Eugeena's neighbor for many years is put in a nursing home and her son puts his mother's house on the market, Eugeena is shocked and saddened. There wasn't much wrong with Louise that a few months of rehab couldn't cure. Then William is shot in the empty house. No way can Eugeena ignore that! William wasn't much, but she had watched him grow up next to her own children. Retired detective and possibly Eugeena's beau Amos tags along for the ride, as gossip tells Eugeena almost everything she needs to know about the past.
This is my second book and it’s getting better and better with each story! That Eugeena is something else, for sure! And with Amos by her side, mostly to keep her out of trouble, you definitely have the recipe for “Oven Baked Secrets!” I love reading about mature characters and this is definitely that! It’s that story that pulls you in at the beginning and you’re all in and the next thing you know, it’s over!! Whew!
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and highly recommend it!! All I can say is, Kudos, Tyora!! 💜
Love, love, love these Eugeena Patterson adventures! But please have someone proofread for typos and grammatical errors in the Kindle version. It can be off putting and discouraging, and I’m sure retired teacher Ms. Eugeena wouldn’t appreciate that (smile). I’ll continue reading and hope to be able to recommend Ms. Moody’s books to my fellow retired educator sisters after I see the results of good proofreading in the next books in this series.
