Monsters' Bride Market

Bought by the Colossus

Rate this book
My touch is death. Everything turns to ash beneath my fingers. Everything... except my colossus.

Born of a dead mother and a necromancer’s spell, I am a walking plague. One brush of my skin withers flowers, rots flesh, and stops hearts. I am a weapon, used by a tyrant to find the mythical Golden Fleece.

And then I meet him. Aion. The Colossus.

A metallic monster of living bronze, fueled by death energy. He reaches to shatter my chains, and I wait for him to die. But he doesn't wither. He doesn't turn to dust. For the first time, a man touches me... and lives.

Now, to stay with him, I must enter the bride market.

This silent giant, a creature without a heartbeat, is the only one who can survive my curse. In his arms, I’m not a blight to be caged. I am a woman to be desired. He is the only one I can ever choose.

But the tyrant I betrayed will burn this world to reclaim his weapon. And in a city where my curse can't harm the man I desire, I might still be the one thing that destroys us all.

Welcome to the bride market! Monsters bid, you choose.

This is a spin-off series to Arranged Monster Mates. We’re back on Alia Terra with steamy stories told by your favorite paranormal romance Eva Brandt, Lia Frost, Cara Wylde, and Ava York.

There are stories that pull you in—and then there are stories that hold you captive. Bought by the Colossus does exactly that, wrapping you in something dark, haunting, and unexpectedly beautiful.

Medea’s life has never been her own.

Born from death and bound to a necromancer who uses her as a weapon, she exists as something feared, controlled, and utterly alone. Her touch destroys everything—flowers, flesh, life itself. She isn’t just dangerous… she’s been made into something the world can only cage and use.

And then she meets Aion.

A living bronze colossus. Silent. Powerful. Unbreakable.

The moment he touches her—and survives—everything changes.

That single moment carries so much weight. Because for the first time in her life, Medea isn’t a curse. She isn’t something to fear. In Aion’s presence, she gets to be wanted. And that shift—from weapon to woman—is where this story truly shines.

Their connection is intense, immediate, and deeply emotional.

Aion may not speak much, but his actions say everything. There’s something incredibly compelling about the way he chooses her without hesitation, without fear, without conditions. And Medea, after a lifetime of isolation and pain, slowly begins to believe she deserves that kind of devotion.

The world-building adds another layer of intrigue.

A land reshaped by “the Shift,” where monsters walk openly and society functions in strange, structured ways—like the bride market and the need for magical “weaves” to belong. It’s creative, immersive, and just different enough to keep you hooked without feeling overwhelming.

And the retelling element?

Brilliant.

This dark twist on the tale of Jason and the Golden Fleece takes something familiar and reshapes it into something far more emotional and complex. Jason is no hero here—he’s a threat, a force of control and destruction that looms over everything Medea is trying to escape.

The tension never really lets up.

There’s danger in every corner, urgency in every decision, and this constant underlying question: can something so fragile—something born from pain—actually survive in a world that wants to break it?

And yet… it does.

Because at its core, this story is about finding connection in the most impossible circumstances. About being seen, fully and without fear, by the one person who shouldn’t even exist—and loving anyway.

It’s dark. It’s emotional. It’s fast-paced. And yes… it will absolutely make you feel things.

If you love monster romance with depth, protective devotion, and a bond that feels both fragile and unbreakable, this is one you don’t want to miss.

Because sometimes the most dangerous touch…
is the one that finally brings you back to life.

Alia Terra a new earth that was created when there was the Shift. Now monsters walk the land.
Medea is a captive of Jason and he and his men have stopped at an inn. He warns her to not talk. She wears heavy gloves, cuffs around her wrists and cloaked head to toe. But she is a woman who is planning. At the inn she hears talk of the Blighted land where the dead walk. This may be her chance. She escapes and makes it to the Blighted land but Jason is hard on her heals. He finds her but when he starts his spell her hand hits the water and breaks his hold on her then she throws herself into the water.
Aion lives in Asphodelia. He and his three friends are coming back home from a harvesting. He feels something then comes to a full stop. Then he sees a female floating asphodel roots. The lake guides him to her. He realizes she is his mate.
Medea is surprised when he touches her and nothing happens to him. Unfortunately the city requires weaves within it's citizens. But Aion is made and has no weave. But a way is found to keep Medea here with him. A proxy husband that weaves her into the city, gives the proxy husband the illusion of being. She and Aion are together.
But will this keep Jason from trying to recapture her? Will she be safe? Will Aion be able to protect her and keep her as his?
A new take on the fable of Jason and the Golden Fleece. It is dark and dangerous but shows that love knows no bonds.

Bought by the Colossus is a Monsters’ Bride Market entry by author Eva Brandt, with the delicate threads of Greek mythology running through its engaging storyline.
We meet Medea, daughter of death and a necromancers magic whose touch turns life to dust.
She is a prisoner and weapon belonging to Jason of the Argonauts to be used in his quest for the golden fleece.
All she wants is to be free and when an opportunity presents itself that is what she becomes.
Giving herself up to a lake before Jason captures her it’s gentle waters bring her to the shores of Asphodelia, and Aion son of Charon who looks upon her face and sees his mate.
I absolutely loved this story whose writing was lyrical and poetic and brought Medea and Aion’s story to wonderful life. Aion, a Colossus who she can touch and not destroy.
Dramatic, heartfelt, passionate, romantic, and filled with characters who have been crafted to shape this captivating, and immersive read into the entertaining adventure it soon became. HEA.

Medea is the creation of a necromancer and a dead mother. All her life that necromancer, Jason, has used her as a weapon to further his own ambitions. When she finally makes her escape to the city of Asphodelia she meets Aion, The Colossus, the only man that a touch of her hand doesn't destroy. But in order to stay in the city she must enter the bride market. Unfortunately, Jason and his Argonauts, are still searching for the legendary Golden Fleece, and he will destroy anything or anyone stand in the way of his reclaiming his weapon and taking possession of the Golden Fleece.
Wow, I loved this book, Aion and Medea are brilliantly written characters. This is a steamy, happily ever after romance between mythological characters that is realistically portrayed and kept me riveted from the beginning. Surprising twists in the plot made it impossible to put this book down. Fantastic book!

This was an enjoyable dark story to read but I would class it ashy like Medea's aftereffects of her touch. It's a romantic slant of the Jason and The Argonauts. Medea is a slave bound to the whims of her cruel master Jason who uses her as a weapon. During a stop at an inn Medea escapes to The Blighted Lands which Jason chases after her. Jason catches up to her at a lake. They fight and Medea jumps into the lake. Medea meets Aion our Colossus in Asphodelia as he rescues her from the lakeshore. Medea realizes he can touch her and Aion realizes she's his mate, but Aion can't keep her unless she goes through the Bride Market. What occurs is a well written story with likable characters I'd was rooting for. There're dangers, steamy chemistry and encounters, and angst in this enjoyable copy I'd received and volunteer to read and review.

This was another fascinating and engaging read, and while it can be read as a stand alone, the world building is much better by reading this series in order. This was a fun twist on the Jason and the Golden Fleece myth, only Jason is a baddie in this one. He's got Medea as a captive to do his will. She was born under unusual circumstances and her touch kills everything. Her loneliness was vivid. However, she wanted out and managed to escape. Meeting Aion, a Colossus, was a shock. He knew she was his mate and he was all in, with no fear. They had a wonderful connection that was filled with emotions. However, Jason was still pursuing her... Expect to get caught up in the drama, danger, angst, emotions and twists in this high stakes romance. I really enjoyed the reading ride and look forward to the next book. Good fun!

I received this book as an ARC copy for my honest review.

It was recommends by the author that 2 additional books in the series be read first. While they introduced characters, you can read this one as a stand alone. I do recommend “Bought by the Cerberus”. There is plenty of info in the prologue to catch you up as well. I liked the ‘evil’ Jason & the Argonauts premise as well as strong characters and the settings but found the story rushed. The FMC is a weapon that can cause rot; she’s being chased by a villain and is also entangled with a colossus…all in a tight 100ish pages. No spoilers I did find Aion’ the MMC anatomy and body descriptions a was a bit confusing. That being said, I still look forward to the next book in the series by EB.

This was such an amazing book. i loved the necromancer theme of it and how the Medea the FMC could literally with a touch, take the life force of anything.
Now Medea is a prisoner of Jason of the Argonauts. He uses Medea as a way to find the Golden fleece he and his men are after. Yet Medea is always plotting to get away from this monster of a man Jason.
During an escape Medea is found by Aion, Son of Charon floating in the river. He sees her and instantly knows she is his mate. The she realizes he touched her and lives and she knows the same.
This was an amazing story that i ate up and cant wait to read more from Eva Brandt. Thank you so much for this Advanced readers copy of this book.

Story Reimagined.
I am enjoying this series of stories with their roots in old myth given a twist and adapted to the bride auction premise. The author note and summary at the beginning was much appreciated and also made readers aware of some sensitive topic areas. Aion and Medea along with Jason had such an interesting story! This mythical plot set in a world ruled by the fates drew me in right from the beginnings. With closure for some characters came hints about Skaros and more to come. Looking forward to the next big reveal!

“Bought by the Colossus” by Eva Brandt

-A dark, emotional fantasy romance with a unique twist on myth, where danger and devotion intertwine. I received a free copy and am voluntarily sharing my honest thoughts.

Medea’s tragic power and painful past contrast beautifully with Aion’s steady, protective presence. The world-building is immersive, with monsters, magic, and high stakes that keep the story gripping.

Angsty, tender, and deeply moving, this is a captivating read with heart and intensity.

This was a good finial installment for this group of friends. They have all had major challenges with finding their brides since they can only get certain ones. Aion was created by his father in the image of his son. This makes him stand apart from the others in his land. But he is still grateful when he finds his bride. It just comes with a price. He will pay it and she will do anything to get him back. Thank goodness for fate or I should say the Moirae these two may not have made it. I mean literally wouldn’t have without Medea’s powers this tale would have a different ending.

Medea's touch rots flesh and turns bodies into ashes. She is kept in a cage and used by Jason, a necromancer who happens to be her father. Everything changes for her when she flees and meets Aion, a bronze colossus. Finally, she can touch someone who won't turn into ashes. But Jason finds her and is determined to use her to destroy the world. Will their love survive? This is a fast-paced read that will make you cry.

Too Much A Like 3.5 stars

Eva is a awesome storyteller and I love this series.
Maybe ive read too many " metal" monster themes. 😊
A awe... and sweet story. For me it was lukewarm. I know sorry. I just didnt get the connect between characters this time.
Very big monster. A small woman. A chance to touch and not fear the consequences. The big... a disguised teddy bear lol💜
All in all a decent story. Just do not read it! Experience it for yourself

Bought by the Colossus part of the multiauthor series Monsters' Bride Market this one by Eva Brandt. Ms. Brandt weaves a delicate thread of Greek mythology throughout the story, I just ate it up! Medea a daughter of death has a necromancers magic whose touch turns life to dust and Aion a Colossus who Medea can touch and not destroy. It's a heartfelt, passionate and romantic story with the sweetest and most perfect HEA.

Deadly Touch Meets Metal
Medea’s touch kills, just as her creator designed. But Aion is a colossus, alive because of death magic - Medea’s touch poses no ill effect on him. These two are perfect for each other, but challenges stand in their way. I really enjoyed this re-imagining of the myth of Jason and the Golden Fleece - it’s appropriately heavy, and the losses feel real, but it’s redeeming as well. A marvellous read.

Everything Medea touched died, so she lived a lonely life until she met Aion and found her touch didn't affect him. Aion, a Colossus, is made of metal and unaffected by Medea's touch. These two go through a lot to get their happily ever after, but it makes it that much sweeter. Medea and Aion's story, Bought by the Colossus, is a great addition to the multi-author Monsters' Bride Market series. I look forward to reading the rest of the books. Jeez, Not Jason!

Wow! What a way to view an enjoyable childhood book favorite in an entirely different light! I loved Jason and the Argonauts but this version, not so much. I was terrified for the poor death touched female and sad that the Colossus was made and didn’t have rights. And then what came after was horrible. But I was happy to see Aion and Meara getting their HEA. This is one of the most entertaining series I’ve followed.

I really loved this story! I loved the retelling of the story of Jason and the Argonauts, it was so clever and well done. I loved the way everything about Medea's life was so dark and difficult, and her relationship with Aion was just so impossible, and yet somehow the author was able to make everything work and give us a happy ending! It was all so brilliant!

I did not read the first two before this one as I stumbled across this. It was a tad bit confusing, but overall, really easy to follow. I absolutely fell in love with these two. What an amazing world. I loved the uniqueness of this. The characters were awesome, and the description was so cool. Loved the storyline and depth. I can’t wait to go back and read the first two.

The author crafted stories that seem almost impossible: a colossus and a woman whose hands carry death. Their journeys to find their own happily ever after are both captivating and inspiring. It wasn't an easy path, but they forged their own destiny with love, determination and courage.

Everyone has someone who is their perfect match. But whether they can find each other is the question. Aion's ability to withstand her curse and her willingness to stand at the bride market makes for an escape. However, its only when they surrender to their needs that the truth comes out.

Great

I did not look at the story as the semblance of the original Jason and the Argonauts I looked at it as the bride death touched with a death touch who fell in love with the Colossus and gave him her heart as well as one of his own

I’ve been reading this series from book one, and have really been enjoying it! I fell in love with Aion from his other appearances in previous books and was so happy to see that he was getting his own story.
Medea was born from a necromancer spell, therefore everything she touches, dies. She has been used as a weapon her entire life until she is able to flee and meets Aion. I loved there story so much, it was just as sweet as Aion is. It’s a fast paced story and I finished it in one day.
Highly recommend this entire series!

Another compelling one-sitting read! I am all-in for this series, ESPECIALLY anything involving Asphodelia. Having met the Colossus in previous books I was excited for him to find his mate. I was not expecting it to become a new twist on Medea's story and I really enjoyed how the mythology was woven into the context of the Alia Terra universe as well as the death-touched bride market. Now I'm on pins and needles waiting to hear more about Skaros.

This felt like the shortest of the series so far. Extremely quick read, I read this in one sitting. There wasn't much added for the other characters or world. I would've liked more of the FMC and MMC growing together. You definitely will have had to read the previous books for this to make sense. Stoked for the next one!
