This book takes readers on an emotional rollercoaster, brimming with domestic intrigue, and you just know a dead body will turn up sooner or later!
Daisy Bailey seems to have the perfect life with her husband, Cole, until things go wrong, and Daisy makes a wrong decision. It is never a good sign when your first love shows up. Tom enters the picture with a determined goal: to win Daisy back. Tom is very persistent, almost obsessive, and it seems he will go above and beyond to get Daisy back. Daisy's sister, Sarah, gets caught in the middle. If Tom can't win over one sister, will he set his sights on the other?
The story unravels in multiple POVs from Daisy, Tom, and Sarah, which helps with full character development. As we turn pages, we learn about deep secrets and lies that surround each character. I found it challenging to connect with either Cole or Tom, but this may have been intentional, adding an intriguing layer to the plot. It left me puzzled about why Daisy felt the need to betray Cole, who was devoted and ready to fulfill her every dream. He even made a grand romantic gesture—but it still didn't satisfy her. Oh, naughty Daisy!
This was a slow-burning mystery that had a strong ending with suspenseful twists that started to slowly resurface. The ending is unpredictable and satisfying. It is scary how some individuals can be delusional when it comes to love obsession, and seeing how far one will go is alarming. This layer of reality made the story that much stronger.
This read is for anyone who enjoys reading about complex family dynamics, the dark side of obsession and delusion to the point that no life will be spared. There are some heartbreaking moments, but also lots of suspense to keep you reading. I am new to this author, and I am looking forward to reading more.
Thank you, @LoveBookTours, @BoldwoodBooks and @NetGalley, for the DRC copy. I am leaving this review voluntarily.
A big thank you to Love Book Tours and L.H. Stacey for the early release copy.
So… this one definitely pulled me out of my comfort zone. I went in wanting to give the psychological‑thriller vibe a proper chance, but I really struggled to connect with the characters — and not in the “they’re flawed but fascinating” way. More in the “I’m not sure I want to be in a room with any of you” way.
Daisy, especially, was tough for me. She cheats on her husband with an old flame, and while flawed characters can be fun, she’s written with a level of selfishness that made it hard to root for her. Cole literally builds her a new house — yes, without telling her, which is its own issue — but instead of communicating or coming clean, she uses it as another reason to avoid the truth. She says she wants to fix her marriage, but her actions don’t match that energy at all.
Cole isn’t innocent either. He’s hiding things, he’s unpredictable, and the secrecy makes him feel just as unreliable. And then there’s Tom, who is so obsessed with the life he and Daisy used to have that it crosses into uncomfortable territory. For someone who claims to love her, he’s not exactly showing it in a healthy way.
All that said, the pacing is genuinely strong — exactly what you want from a psychological thriller. Even though I didn’t click with the characters, the tension and momentum kept me turning the pages. It’s one of those books that you keep reading because you need to know how the mess unravels.
Overall, this was an alright read for me. I think readers who love messy characters, moral grey zones, and twisty domestic drama will get more out of it than I did. Sometimes it really does come down to personal taste, and this one just wasn’t quite my match.
The One Night Stand delivers exactly what the title promises—and then goes deeper than expected. What begins as a spur-of-the-moment hookup quickly turns into an emotional tangle of attraction, vulnerability, and consequences neither character fully anticipated.
L. H. Stacey does a great job capturing the tension that comes from blurred lines. The chemistry is immediate and believable, but what really stood out to me was how the story explores the aftermath of a one-night decision rather than treating it as a neat fantasy. The characters feel human in their hesitations, missteps, and emotional walls, which made their connection more compelling.
The pacing is smooth and engaging, with enough heat to satisfy romance readers while still leaving room for character growth and emotional stakes. If you enjoy romances where desire collides with real-life complications—and where feelings sneak up on the characters just as much as they do on the reader—this one is worth picking up.
A solid, enjoyable read that balances steam with heart.
3.5 Thank-you to Love Book Tours, Netgalley and the author for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. I really did struggle to rate this book as it was overall a good thriller and I do think that this is a really good thriller for those that are new to the thriller genre. This follows Daisy who goes away on a one-night stand with an ex, and then has a decision to make, go back to her ex or live the “perfect” life with her husband. This is definitely twisty and the last 20% of this book definitely packed a punch! This is only a short book at 280 pages so as a fast reader, I did read this within 36 hours! I would recommend it but as a well-read thriller girlie, it was a little too slow burn at the beginning but overall, I would recommend!
Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for a review!
I’m not a massive reader of thrillers but wanted to give it a go. I read it pretty quickly - it did keep me hooked but it was a bit chaotic in terms of writing. It felt like chapters jumped from time frame to time frame without really knowing what was happening and some information was repeated throughout the book. The characters did an awful lot of talking out loud to themselves which annoyed me for some reason. Definitely needs to come with a trigger warning for some aspects of it.
Overall it was a decent read, I was happy with how it ended and I think the author has done well - I genuinely didn’t like any of the characters!
Daisy Bailey has the perfect life and the perfect husband. She just doesn't know it. When an old flame comes back into her life, it seems like this reunion will have severe consequences. What first starts as harmless fun turns into a game of obsession and deception.
This book had me hooked from the very beginning. The characters are flawed, their secrets are dark and they come off as self-serving. The characters were morally ambiguous and their actions seemed to never have consequences, oh but they do. I love thrillers and this one was incredible. Thank you Netgalley and Boldwood Books for this eARC. All opinions are entirely my own.
