What if someone in your hometown wanted you gone—and would do anything to make it happen?
After twenty-five years in prison, Alex Hollins returns to Pinehurst, Virginia, hoping to rebuild the shattered remains of his life. But Pinehurst hasn’t forgotten his past, and not everyone is willing to let him start over.
A powerful local pastor sees Alex’s return as a threat to secrets buried long ago. As pressure mounts and suspicion begins to close in, Alex finds himself pushed to the margins of a town eager to believe the worst.
When a terrifying crime rocks the community, Alex becomes the easy target and the truth becomes far more dangerous than the lies protecting it.
Set against the isolation and silence of rural America, THE LEAST OF THESE is a dark psychological thriller about betrayal, fractured trust, and one man’s desperate fight for redemption.
I really enjoyed this one. The small‑town tension and “everyone’s watching you” vibe landed, and the dirty little streak of local corruption gave the whole story some extra bite. My one ongoing gripe with thrillers shows up again if you’re going to write about prison, they’re officers, not guards. Still, the atmosphere and character work made this a solid, moody read.
Thank you Author Price for an ARC copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
Wow! Where to start. I actually heard that this was this authors first book release and I was thoroughly impressed. I felt like the characters were very likable and made very realistic decisions. I liked the overall storyline and the interpersonal relationships that were sprinkled in. The redemption story of being out of jail and fighting the court of popular opinion was very interesting to me. This book definitely had me staying up late to finish it with a pace I felt grip me from the start. I like that the author left us with sequel potential! I thought it was great especially for a first novel and look forward to reading other works. Also I heard that the author could potentially be peer pressured into a book signing.
