Simply put, Luty shows us how to turn hardware--pipes, washers, bolts, etc.--into a functioning 9mm submachine gun. The whole thing is downloadable for free (or used to be) from his website, which also includes plans for other guns.

I've never built one of these, and Luty claims he did time in prison for doing so, but it's valuable information nonetheless. The Second Amendment has nothing to do with hunting. Our country was founded on violent revolution against what was, at that time, the most powerful military force in the world...and the farmers had the same small arms the British soldiers did, even better ones in many cases. Can we say the same today? If--and I know a lot of people don't like to even entertain the notion that such an "if" is possible--but if we were ever to end up under the rule of an oppressive dictator, if we had a Hitler or a Pol Pot in charge of the American military industrial machine, someone who would as soon kill us as tolerate a protest, how on earth would we fight back? Pistols and shotguns and single-shot hunting rifles are useless against soldiers shooting rockets and riding in tanks. Putting full-auto firepower in the hands of everyman goes a little way toward evening the score.

After much hesitance and fear that a SWAT team might show up at my door, I finally found the courage to buy this book. Reading through it, I can see how it can be very useful in a post-apoc situation or revolution and how futile any attempt to ban guns would be (hence its mention in Linnetsburg: Birth upon the River Lune where I first heard about Luty's work). About a week after doing a speed read (or detailed skim - however you want to put it) of 'Expedient Homemade Firearms', an old friend and I were having friendly political debate about gun control and all I won the argument just by getting up and returning with the book in-hand.

I cannot vouch for the instructions' feasibility as I've never tried building this myself. After all, building a full-automatic gun is illegal in the US, and I don't have so much as a speeding ticket! But judging from the ones made (pictures/video of which you can be found on the internet), I don't have much reason to question the design.

At the very least, it's a good way to win any gun-control debate, assuming you're on the constitutional side of the argument.

The book is fairly straightforward for people who would be able to assemble Ikea furniture. I have pointed to this and identified that the design is basically the STEN gun that was one of the primary arms of British forces in WWII.

The response that I get from most people who are opposed to civilian ownership of guns is that it's too complicated. I wish that they had included instructions on making it semiautomatic, like they did for their 22LR book.

If you follow the designs perfectly, you will have a working firearm that it is illegal to own in my state, however since the barrel is not rifled, it will be significantly less accurate than a hipoint carbine.

Not only this is an amazing guide on how to create a firearm from pretty much your everyday utility materials(using a little bit of craftsmanship ofcourse), but also a great dive into firearm construction, how each part works and how to make those(with a lot of black and white pictures). On the inside, it's a commentary of how futile most of the anti-gun laws are, even if I know Luty most likely didn't intend it to be one(banning firearms manufacturing doesn't stop anyone from basically following this 80 page guide on how to create a working full-auto firearm). Personally, I only own a few pieces myself(Mossberg turkey shotgun, a .22 rifle for targets and 2 Taurus guns from https://gritrsports.com/taurus/ for carrying and practice at the range), so I doubt I'll ever need to know EXACTLY how to make this, but having this knowledge hidden somewhere inside your head probably doesn't hurt.

Just reading through the book and not following along, there are some parts that weren't really clear to me. If I were to try to build the machine and had parts in front of me it would probably make a heck of a lot more sense. Overall, the majority of the writing, steps, and instructions are very clear.

I think the whole point of the book comes across well and is extremely commendable.

Fascinating book, which is now seemingly impossible to buy online. Presumably one would need to download it from some torrent site to read it. I suspect I may soon be getting a visit from our federal law enforcement agencies, who may take a dim view on the possession of such literature. In any case the history of Luty is fascinating- well worth read. . I doubt that you could actually build a working submachine gun following these instructions, but that is not the point of the book. It is essentially a protest book which challenges Government control and oppression through gun legislation. It is fascinating that the book is in essence indirectly censored and can't be bought on line. The book itself would be great to actually put in my book collection but is otherwise of no specific merit.
If you are reading this sort of book, you are a straight bourbon drinker- preferably from your own still. Best enjoyed with the pork you spit roasted with the pig you shot with your AR.
