I was waiting (probably not very patiently) for a new book by Donna Jay. Knowing that one of the main topics would be our body imagine and struggles with weight I was totally excited to read it. And I didn’t get disappointed.
Lorna and Rachel have met online and hit it off right away. They both share a deep desire for some kinky play. For Rachel it’s actually the first time she acts on her desires and wow their first meeting definitely won’t leave you cold. Their chemistry is amazing. While Rachel is on the curvier side, she is totally comfortable in her own skin and just so sweet. Lorna on the other hand struggles with her weight too but doesn’t feel comfortable at all in her own body.
The first time they meet Rachel isn’t allowed to see Lorna. Even if Rachel gives in this isn’t easy for her. She wants nothing more than to help Lorna being ok with whom she is but can’t. This totally tugged on my heart. I literally lost it when Lorna was ready and revealed herself to Rachel for the first time. My heart broke for her and her own insecurities. The way Donna described Lorna‘s pain and the things she has to deal daily in her life, broke my heart. Tears fell down my cheeks and I had so many thoughts racing through my head. While I always struggled with my weight too, I was fortunate that I never had to deal with thoughtless and mean people (or not as much at least). I‘m definitely not as self-confident as Rachel and assume if I would ever had to deal with such people, I would have ended being just as insecure as Lorna.
This brings me to Rachel and how she sees things. I believe we all can learn from her. I just loved her for things like „this isn’t on you, it’s the other persons problem“. She is definitely the best thing that has ever happened to Lorna. Together they are the most perfect team. Then as insecure as Lorna is about herself, she is a lion when it comes to defend Rachel. It made my heart swell. Aside from supporting each other, they also have lots of fun. I just loved their trips together and their banter. 😊
I could go on and on how perfect they are and how much I loved this story. But as always I will say read for yourself. I’m sure you will learn a lot about body image and maybe also about prejudice. I definitely learned a lot and can’t thank Donna enough for gifting us with this story. You just feel on every page how much of her own heart she put into it. I was in awe of her and her writing before, but after this story I‘m even more. I‘m actually looking for the right word but struggle to find one that is adequate. Maybe astonished would be a good one. The way she puts her feelings on paper (or on our e readers) is just incredible. The way she makes us aware of things. Maybe even calls us out of things we never thought about. The way she surprises us.
And before anyone thinks it’s all about serious topics and there isn’t much fun. Believe me that’s not at all how it is. Everyone who knows Donna’s books knows that she has an amazing humour. I actually adore it. I was laughing out loud so many times because of jokes I was wondering how she even came up with it. LOL
And have I already mentioned that after reading this book, I want to visit NZ as soon as possible? That’s another thing I love so much about Donna‘s books. How she always takes us on a trip to different places in her beautiful country. 😍 Of course these are all my feelings, but I just love all of this and again I’m in awe. 😍
Last but not least I wanna mention the most important message this book presented to me. It’s about being kind. Kindness is actually one of the most important values for me and I think this book shows how important it is. Kindness is a gift everyone can afford to give and you never know one kind word can make someone’s entire day. 💖

Rachel was looking for a relationship where her deepest desires could be full filled.Lorna had body image issues. She has been criticized a lot by folks on every side of her family.
This story is very compelling. It tells two different sides of the coin. It points out how we should never judge. You really don’t know what someone is going through, whether it be medical or private battle. Being a woman in society today can be very difficult. Everything is based on appearance, not your heart, mind or intelligence.
This story really helps you look at life from a
different perspective. Weight is a sensitive issue. Both characters help you to understand how life can be difficult. How insensitive we can be towards one another.
Lorna and Rachel relationship was beautiful Rachel accepted and loved Lorna for who she was. She made it her misson to learn to listen to her and to try to understand her struggles.
This story is a breath of fresh air. Donna Jay has out done herself with this new book. I highly recommend this book. 5 stars ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I’m so excited to see Donna’s new story go live. I think every reader will be able to relate to her latest book, in one way or another. It’s about Lorna learning to love her reflection, with a little help from her love interest, Rachel. The secondary characters in the story will also keep you entertained with their antics.
As usual, Donna takes her characters on a road trip to some interesting sites on her island home, New Zealand. Every time I read a Donna Jay story it makes me want to book a flight to her amazing country.
She writes sexy times that are steamy and the kink adds just the right amount of heat. Of course, there is a bit of angst, but in the end she gives Rachel and Lorna a happily ever after filled with a few little surprises!
If you’ve read Donna’s work before I know you’ll enjoy this one. If you haven’t, give her a chance to make you squirm, laugh and even take pause to think about the story. Pick it up because it’s another good one at a good price.

Another wonderful easy read by Donna Jay. By easy, I mean it just flows. The book got me involved from the start and just pulled me along. I have had body issues in the past. And this book handled those insecurities that come with feeling bad about yourself. Rachel and Lorna have a good connection from the start. Rachel is very confident and secure. She tries to help Lorna anyway she can. But Lorna has shut herself off for several years and is scared to let someone in. I just found this to be a very interesting book. As always I got to learn more about the beautiful New Zealand. There are some steamy romantic scenes. And some wonderful humor. I highly recommend Reflections. I did receive an ARC but these are my views.

First—thank you for tackling the sensitive topic of body image. I don’t think I’ve read another book that addresses it so powerfully, if at all. The bonus for readers is that her characters are strong women. Sexy women. Confident women, and yet, not afraid to show a vulnerable side.
You know that a story is good if you can imagine yourself thinking or saying the same things you read in the dialogue between characters. The chemistry between Lorna and Rachel is evident from the beginning to the end. And yes, I have a favourite between the two. Ah-ah, nope not telling.
And when a story surprises you—well that’s like unwrapping a present you didn’t expect to get. I have to admit, I was surprised more than once. Nope, no spoilers here.
Despite the serious topic, no worries, you will be entertained by Donna Jay’s humour throughout, and I’d love to give a few examples, but I think you’ll enjoy them more on your own as you get to know the characters. And never fear, there be lots of steamy time to be found within.
I swear, the more I read about New Zealand in her books, the more I want to live there. Be sure to do a little look-up on the places in this story. I so want to see the glowworm caves and Woodlyn Park and who wouldn’t want to toss a gumboot, just sayin’.
Check out Reflections to give your heart and emotions an honest and enjoyable adventure in love, desire, trust, and even at times feelings of hopelessness. But above all—love and hope. You want a story that will give you all the ‘feels’? You got it.

Rachel Buchanan has confidence in herself that many of us would dream. Working in a plus size clothing store she knows how to make women feel great about themselves. The only thing missing in her life is someone to have fun with and not necessarily a relationship. Lorna Thompson shies away from any social activities as she is fed up with the body shaming, she attracts whenever she does go out. She is, however, extremely confident in the bedroom and has signed on to a dating site to see who comes her way. The two women meet on the dating site and from then on it seems that each has received what they have been wanting. As long as Rachel keeps the blindfold on.
Just to let you know firstly that I am a Donna Jay fan. This book brings to life a few things that I think a lot of people have experienced through body shaming and having to deal with strangers making assumptions about their looks. If you are a regular reader of Donna Jay’s novels, then you know that she often has BDSM scenes in them and does in this one too. What I thought was brilliant is the way that she uses these scenes to turn stereotypes on their heads. Being a Dominant doesn’t necessarily equal confidence. The characters were so relatable and real. When Lorna and Rachel are together the pages ignite and the dynamics between them are wonderful.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this novel. Yes, its steamy and hot but it also brings out issues that are happening every day and people are having to deal with them in any way they can. Hopefully everyone can find a match like Rachel and Lorna have done.

About teaspoons and dessert spoons.
This book beautifully brings out the attention to our society's fixation on the body, and especially body measurements. However, it is anything but pretty.
Personally, I know what it's like to constantly get upset about people and their educated opinions.
As the partner of a woman struggling with her weight due to illness, I can understand the need for the MCs in this book to constantly defend one another.
Feeling good in your own body leads to self-love and that is by no means a given to everyone.
Lorna, one of the MC’s, can tell you a thing or two about that.
That's why she hides at the beginning of the book.
She needs an open, warm woman free from prejudice who takes her as she is.
I don't want to say in detail who is struggling with which problem, otherwise there would be too many spoilers.
Rachel is definitely the right person for Lorna.
She is warm-hearted and open and absolutely self-confident in her entire demeanor.
However, both have a long way to go.
Elements of BDSM are again and thank goodness;) a part of this beautiful Donna Jay book.

Wow, DJ went hard on the BDSM on this one, and it's pretty good. The setup surprise caught me off-guard, as intended, and played well throughout the book. Self-worth is the theme. Some aspects were repeated once too many times, but overall, it read true. I wish the "vanilla" sex scenes were as detailed as the kinky scenes, but there's probably a message there too. There were several secondary characters, but they were mostly there to annoy the couple and thus strengthen their bond.
As always, DJ provides a close look at normal people living normal lives in the land of the big white cloud. It's a happy place.

Rachel works in a plus-size department store, happily and genuinely making people feel good about themselves. She is a curvy person at peace with her body. Lorna is someone who is so uncomfortable with her own body that she won’t look at herself in the mirror. Craving love and companionship, Lorna decided to try an online dating app in hopes of finding someone who would be interested in a no-strings-attached relationship (with a plan that would protect her privacy.)
Rachel and Lorna had an immediate attraction and great chemistry from the beginning. However, some difficulties began when Lorna’s BDSM setup, although sexually compatible, still wouldn’t permit Rachel to see her. These roadblocks flared up at times, causing issues in the relationship. Even though Rachel loved, accepted and supported her, Lorna had dealt with so much criticism and rude comments from people for so long that it still remained a struggle preventing her from overcoming her anxieties. It was a very touching moment when Lorna finally did allow Rachel to see her. It was a beautiful point in this story how two characters who were beautiful and kind people displayed how kindness matters when love is real.
I want to add the praise that a constant in Donna Jay books is her humor. Another constant is her obvious love of New Zealand. Each book gives us a glimpse of the unique landscape. Among other things, we were introduced to the Waitomo Glowworm Caves! Wouldn’t I love to see that!
Lastly, without spoiling anything I want to comment that this was a very, very unique story containing a twist that will leave you with a lasting impression.

Rachel and Lorna meet online and initially enter into a no-strings BDSM sexual relationship. Lorna, the domme, insists that Rachel wear a blindfold during their play. As their non-sexual connection deepens, Rachel learns that Lorna is sensitive about her weight. Rachel, a plus-sized woman, by contrast, is perfectly comfortable with who she is. The twist in the plot comes at about the 20% mark and it caught me by surprise in a good way. There's a slight twist in the final pages, which is also a bit clever. Other than that, I really had a hard time getting through the book. I wanted the ARC because I was interested to read a Sapphic romance that explored issues of body positivity and self-image in contrast to the usual beautiful and "toned" main characters that populate most books. But I just couldn't stay engaged in most of the book as the author took me through the story of this relationship, with one small argument and a short separation but mostly smooth sailing. Plus, I didn't find Lorna all that likeable and wondered why Rachel was so enamored of her.

Body positivity
Not your usual romance subject, Jay writes a book that shows that body insecurity doesn’t apply only to people deemed overweight and that being happy in your own skin doesn’t necessarily means you must be a certain size. And it’s a Donna Jay book so light BDSM is present so if that’s not your thing be aware. 4.5 stars.

I really liked how Donna approached this story. It's not just overweight people who strugle with weight and idiots who feel like they can openly comment on your appearence. Even the most subtle comment can cut deep and make you insecure for a long time, thats why I sympathized with Lorna so much. I have been "slender" my whole life and dealth with my fare share of people who think it's totaly fine and not offensive and hurtfull to comment on the way I look.
I liked both main characters and how they dealth with their problems and learned to love each other and their bodies.
However I am not a fan of BDSM no matter how light it is so that part of the book did not work for me so much. I will probably sound vanilla, but I prefer lovemaking in my books over dom/sub dynamic.
But overall this is a great story full of hardships and love that will put a smile on your face :)

This is added to my "so good" shelf. Donna Jay somehow manages to write about sensitive and potentially triggering topics with such heart and kindness. Yes, this starts right off with a bit of kink but goes so much deeper on the issue of body image - differing for both women. Body image is something a lot of people struggle with (differently to each person) yet is rarely taken on in stories. I really liked how realistically the situations were taken. I don't want to give away spoilers.
Highly recommend. Donna Jay is an author who keeps wowing me with each book release.

Things I liked:
- The concept is super relatable and handled a sensitive subject with care
- The plot twist was exactly what I was hoping for
- The story is sweet and the HEA at the end is nice
Things I didn’t:
- I like a slow burn, this isn’t that
- The writing and characters didn’t fit my personal preferences even though it would definitely appeal to other people (that’s just a personal preference)
- Lots of fluff from early on, I felt like the entire second half of the book was an epilogue. It was a very self-indulgent read and would probably be very healing for the right reader
- The spicy scenes were not spicy enough for me! I wanted more from each scene, the beginning and the concept was always great but they stopped too soon. Also the fluffy internal monologue brought me out of the facade

I enjoyed the unexpected in this book! My wife thought this would be a good book for me in relation to my own body image issues and confidence. Turned out she was right and this made me think outside the box. Great story, wonderful characters and very powerful sex scenes.

I’ve come to see quite a pattern in Donna Jay’s work. Dom meets sub, they fall in love, wind up moving in together and/or getting engaged. It’s fast become a very generic pattern that usually, I can deal with.
But unfortunately, Reflections failed to hit the mark. Aside from a few editorial issues, I found it painful to read the way the characters were written, particularly Rachel. As a larger woman myself, Rachel’s body positivity was a breath of fresh air except that for every step forward, there was a step back. Rachel was back and forth - one minute confident, the next hurt by a comment. For me, there was too much back and forth. Plus it seemed like every chance she got, Donna found a way to use words like big, large, etc. going so far at point as to describe Rachel as bigger than life. It stopped being a part of Rachel’s character after the third or fourth time the reader just had to be reminded of Rachel’s size. Maybe I’m sensitive but frankly, it was distracting to have Rachel’s weight (not to mention Lorna’s issues with hers) constantly referred to.
I’m loathed to leave this kind of review, but I also wanted to be honest. This book could have been more but unfortunately it fell short. By the end, I couldn’t wait for it to be over which is a shame, as I have genuinely enjoyed the other works I have so far read and I intend to finish all of Donna’s books. I don’t know what I expected when I started Reflections but it certainly wasn’t feeling deflated by the end.

Body Positivity
This book started out strong drawing you into the tension and dynamics of the MC's, who have weight body issues, as they meet in person for the first time to engage in a hot BDSM scene with only one woman allowed to see and touch the other woman.
Rachel and Lorna met on an online hookup site but spent two months getting to know each other before their first hookup so when they do meet it is with a great deal of knowledge and growing trust.
After the first quarter of this story, it develops into more or less of a combination journal and daily travel log as we learn of Lorna's battle with devastating weight loss and Rachel's positive attitude toward her curvy plus size. Still their's a beautiful ongoing love story with a HEA.
There are lighthearted laugh out loud moments intermixed with the ongoing challenges and sometimes tedious plotting in this interesting and informative story. The rude attitudes and comments of others and how Lorna and Rachel help each other handle these make up quite a bit of the story. And along the way, we meet their family and friends, learn of their work, and enjoy some of the sights and wildlife of New Zealand.
If you like all of that, you'll enjoy this book otherwise, like me you'll wish you read and comprehended the reviews better.

Fantastic story about self acceptance and finding love

What started out as a pair of woman seeking casual, kinky pleasure ended up turning into an enlightening tale about their struggles with two different weight extremes, and how they learned to live and love. The typical insults, assumptions, and bullying had been thrown at both MCs, which caused some harmful effects to their psyches, and even forced one to be reclusive. The catalyst of their later close relationship continued to build trust between them, and made each question whether to go from casual to a committed relationship.
Throughout the story, the challenges they faced associated with their bodies had revealed things to each other neither had considered about the other's size. It was really good to get the two different perspectives because most people have probably had one or the other weight issue. If not, then a lucky reader learned about the hardships involved with both situations.
I highly recommend it.

A wonderful book from a talented author, not many could tackle the main subject here with the tact and humour that is injected into this book. It is an unusual romance story that centres on the very often taboo subject of body size,
predominantly about body image issues and how both MC's learn to deal with other peoples comments and insults as well as learning self acceptance but all wrapped up in an adorable romance. As always with Donna Jay there is an element of kink and spice which is evident in the opening chapter but this is far from what the book is all about. Rachel and Lorna each have their own issues and make their own mistakes along the way but together they find a way through. This story takes you on a journey with them as well as imparting some amazing facts about New Zealand.

I really enjoyed this book. The premise drew me in from the start and I was very keen to read it. The plot twist was unexpected but perfect.
I loved the beginning, that it dove right into their first in-person meeting and had me gripped from the start. The story is well-written and the characters drew me in. I love both Lorna and Rachel and their character growth throughout the story.
This book made me feel, think, smile, and certainly appreciate that there are so many different perspectives out there and they are valid.
This book will have you in your feelings and rooting for the characters, and hopefully, growing with them. There's just the right amount of depth, romance and steam for me.

Rachel and Lorna's relationship has many facets but is initially dominated by issues of body image and poor feelings of self-worth. The associated reluctance for open communication threatens to derail the couple on more than one occasion. The relationship slowly deepens as the couple learns to communicate and with support and encouragement from key individuals in the supporting cast.
Beyond the developing relationship between the main characters the story arc highlights the harsh realities of living with a complex chronic medical condition and how that can complicate life with a romantic partner. In racier moments the plot includes light BDSM to keep things interesting. Overall an enjoyable, thought provoking, read.

Adorable and Meaningful
I can't remember why I downloaded this and it had sat unread for a bit, maybe other covers grabbed me more on the kindle.
Well... they say don't judge a book by its cover and this was certainly one of those cases. The story centres around two women who are utterly adorable, complex and you can't fail to feel empathy for. They each have challenges and make mistakes but through it all, love develops.
The storyline is not at all what you're expecting from the outset and the way Donna builds it is nothing short of masterful.
Thoroughly recommended, a must read fit not just for your bookshelf but also to read right now before you forget!

Absolutely loved this book. It's a sensitive topic, body shaming is real, and many people don't realize how they may say something and "not mean it"still hurts. I loved Rachels confidence, which in turn gives me a bit more confidence. How Rachel stood by Lorna through all she was going through is true love. The story is wonderful and both characters are relatable in their own way. As with all of Donna's books there is steam, touch of humor and New Zealand -oh my- that maybe become a bucket list place to visit. Give it a read you will not be disappointed.

Rachel and Lorena met in unusual circumstances. Rachel is happy with how she looks and looks down on people when they questioned her about her size. Lorne finally learned that she lactose intolerant. My two children are also. Lorne is of the same mind as Rachel about weight questions or statements.Both of them are as guilty but both have taught each other to remember they were once that insensitive. Together they manage to teach, love and behave kinder to others. Very enlightened book. Enjoy!
