Víctor Terán provides us with a comprehensive guide to the importance of this type of activity.
Originally created for military purposes, it has now become part of everyday life. One thing is certain: its myriad facets and practical applications are underestimated. This book first explains who the target audiences are (ranging from military personnel and martial artists to athletes and fitness enthusiasts, with a focus on women and children) and the fundamental aspects of perfect training. At the core of it all is combined training of the body, mind and nutrition. This book covers everything from the type of training and the importance of recovery to the most targeted techniques for athletes and the essential survival skills for everyone. It teaches us that good combat technique is increasingly important in everyday life, from the fundamental need to defend oneself in an emergency to the ability to react in stressful situations, and from quick responses to navigation. This extends to the invaluable mindset and mental resilience that enables us to respond quickly and calmly, even in high-pressure situations. Ultimately, the benefits are numerous, both physical and psychological, and include the development of teamwork and communication skills, as well as the cultivation of respect, discipline, and self-control.
Three topics caught my attention in particular: self-defense for women, wilderness training, and children's martial arts programs. These topics are covered in depth. Overall, I found it to be a really interesting read. Regardless of whether you choose to practice this activity, I believe it offers significant insights for our physical and mental well-being. Highly recommended!
A significant quote: “The ability to overcome fear, manage stress, and stay committed to long-term goals is vital for success. Therefore, conditioning programs must also incorporate mental training strategies, such as visualization and mindfulness practices, to bolster psychological readiness alongside physical preparation.”
