When I started it, I thought I was going to have to throw this book at a wall. My English professor would've flayed Coble publicly for how she started this novel.

From the first paragraph: THE ticking of THE grandfather clock in THE hallway echoed in THE shrouded darkness of THE parlor... THE clatter of carriage wheels on THE fine plank streets outside THE open window thumped in time with THE beat of her heart... ***TOO MANY THE'S!!!!!*** It's offensively bad writing to do that!!

And then a page later, she wanted to be left alone to 'probe her mind'. WHAT the what!?

But luckily - luckily! - that was the end of that, and the rest of the story is really, really good. The history of the old forts, the skirmishes with the Indians, and the friendships of the wives living with their military husbands was real and moving.

Emmie was naïve, landed herself in a pickle, but she found favor with God and man as she tried to move out of her pain and grow, learning what true faith in the Creator is, and finding happiness with people who loved her.

Definitely a keeper!

MY REVIEW
Yes, another great book by Colleen. She writes about forgiveness and strength to go on with your life when it seems there is no future. When you make a promise, thinking you will never have to honor that promise, what happens when honoring it will change your plans for your future. What would you do?

Plains of Promise and Love

When God closes one door he will always open another and another. This was a really good read and if it wasn’t for my being under the weather I would not have put it down. This book was Beautifully written and took me back to the roots of my religion.

I read this book from the book titled Wyoming that had all four stories in one book.
The book was continued from the story of book one.
Difficult to read about all the struggles and hardships the characters went through.
I found it heartbreaking at times and even cried at times.
I enjoyed the different relationships some of the characters had.
I don’t quite understand why the men wanted such a life and better yet why the women would ever go along and seemed to be content with all the poor living conditions.

This book had a very slow start, but it got better as I read more. I was very upset by the death of Amelia which I thought resulted in Jake being very harsh by forcing Emma to keep her promise to Amelia before her death and marry him even though she was in love with Isaac. However, this book got better and ended happily as Jake released Emma from her promise, so she was free to marry Isaac . When Emma had her baby girl, she called her Amelia, which I thought was a nice touch

Great reading book so much history

So much enjoyed reading this book with all the historical facts about the forts and the Indians that were in the areas at that period of time. It was a harsh time in which to live yet the people survived and were stronger for doing so. Much heartache but blessings also in this period of time in the west. Very enjoyable read.

Emmie the sister of Ben has shown up at her old friend Sarah and Rand. She was 'married' to a man from home only to find out he had a wife and son already. She left home to come live with Sarah who need her help because she is expecting. Emmie is feeling abandoned until she meets a certain lieutenant but of course everything is not as easy as it should be.
