The Draft Day Secret
One night lead to a secret that changes everything.
Six years ago, I spent an unforgettable night with cocky first-round draft pick Ryan McKenzie. By morning, he was gone—off to his NHL dreams while I was left with a positive pregnancy test and a broken heart.
Now he's back in Boston, traded to the Blazers, and standing in my rink where I work. Where our son—his son—practices. The same son who worships his favorite player without knowing it's his father.
I should tell Ryan to leave. Instead, I'm watching him teach our boy to skate backward. Letting him read bedtime stories. Pretending my heart doesn't race every time he looks at me like he never stopped searching.
The rules were co-parent politely, keep the media away from Chase, don't fall in love again.
But Ryan McKenzie never did follow the rules.
And when he's sitting on my living room floor building Legos with our son, promising he's here to stay, I start to wonder if maybe second chances are worth the risk.
Even if the first one nearly broke me.

I normally wouldn’t pick a hockey related romance but this book was an easy read and so heartwarming. It was refreshing to see a powerful single mom do what was best for her and her son. I laughed, cried and kicked my feet through this !!

Plot errors made good story an annoying read
The story was good. However the timeline, actually there was no timeline. Examples: He just got there on a two year contract. They had been dating for two weeks as was stated over and over again but his teammate brings up him being traded next year because he only has a year left on his contract. Example 2:She's baking for Christmas, he has her sit down to take a break and while they are sitting he says tomorrow is 31 December. Then they fall asleep on the couch wake up and go to their bed and it's back before christmas again. The story just kept bouncing around. Then there was the errors. It says he woke up to an empty bed and a note that just said 'Good luck in Detroit.' Left by her after she saw a text from a female. But through out the rest of the book it kept say he left her. It's like the author changed her mind on who she wanted to do the leaving but then didn't change it in the rest of the book. She brought up lawyers when she was leaving after they meet again, but she tells her friend later he mentioned lawyers. She has his team captain Brad and wife chance meeting them when they are out to lunch but later saying it's the first time they met. Thats just two of plot errors through the whole book, there were many more. It turned a good story into an annoying and confusing read. This could be a good book with some fixes.

I will be reading this again
I laughed and mostly near the end I just smiled. When a story is good and makes you feel good the only thing you can do is smile. Some families have that type of love where it’s messy but love surrounds them. Others wish or hope for a family full of love because there was so negative or abusive. This was a great story I can see myself coming back to read it again.

Cute story - just a little messy
Over all I enjoyed the story. Read finished it on my flight home. Just slightly bothered with the inconsistencies with the timeline, background characters and continued reuse of certain phrases just paragraphs apart. Definitely and editing issues and less the author. Definitely a huge fan of chase though. Reminds me of my nephew. Such a smart/fun kid.

The Draft Day Secret
I enjoyed this book teaches a major lesson about jumping to conclusions before you know the facts. I loved the main characters and could really picture both sets of parents trying to take over things. Really worth reading.
