Stasia Black

92 books2,115 followers
Stasia was born in Georgia, grew up in Texas, recently spent a freezing five-year stint in Minnesota, and now is happily planted in sunny California, which she will never, ever leave.

She loves writing, reading, listening to podcasts, and has recently taken up biking after a twenty-year sabbatical (and has the bumps and bruises to prove it). She lives with her own personal cheerleader, aka, her handsome husband, and their teenage son. Wow. Typing that makes her feel old. And writing about herself in the third person makes her feel a little like a nutjob, but ahem! Where were we?

Stasia’s drawn to romantic stories that don’t take the easy way out. She wants to see beneath people’s veneer and poke into their dark places, their twisted motives, and their deepest desires. Basically, she wants to create characters that make readers alternately laugh, cry ugly tears, want to toss their kindles across the room, and then declare they have a new FBB (forever book boyfriend).

This is the entire boxset of 4 books in one.

I’ll give my thoughts, without giving away any spoilers:

Stasia Black’s writing style is unique, fluent and she has put the right dynamics in it.

The story is unique, with historical characters as the four horsemen.

I liked it to be so character driven. The interactions are beautifully worked out, with depth!

It was a pleasure to read all four books, I can’t say I like one more than the other, they form a perfect collection together!

Dark “ monster” romance is what you can expect.

This great box set, featuring four previously published novels, had me hooked from the very beginning. I’m not usually a fan of monster romance novels, but since I admire the author, I decided to give it a try. The book tells the story of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse —five immortal brothers—who were created by a malevolent fallen angel as weapons of destruction and suffered at the hands of their creator-father, who tortured, manipulated, and pitted them against one another for millennia to terrorize the world, until they finally freed themselves from him and now, for the first time, each of them longs for a consort. The plot is fast-paced, deeply emotional, and packed with action, humorous moments, suspense, danger, twists, steamy love scenes, and unique characters who draw you into their stories. The brothers are morally gray heroes yearning for love and redemption; their female counterparts are strong, kickass heroines who complement them perfectly. I thoroughly enjoyed every single story and the sizzling chemistry between the couples, and I fell in love with every character, but my favorite was Raven—the delightful, lively toddler daughter of Abaddon and Hannah—and her shenanigans, which added a lighthearted touch to the stories.

If you like dark, intense romance novels with great storylines, vivid imagery, plenty of twists, emotion, action, and spice, this book is perfect for you

I received a free ARC of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own and left voluntarily.

About the individual stories:

MONSTER‘S BRIDE

A gripping retelling of “Beauty and the Beast” featuring Abaddon “Pestilence”—the destroyer but also the healer, the oldest and most dominant of the brothers but also the most socially awkward one—and Hannah, a no-nonsense heroine who brings him to his knees. At first, I didn’t like her because she didn’t stick to her agreements, but she grew on me more and more as the series went on.

Disabled Hannah wants to be cured before she dies of her illness and seeks out a monster in the caves of Alaska who agrees to help her, but in return she must remain with him forever as his consort.
Abaddon is the failed creation of his creator-father, who abused and punished him. He is a monster condemned to solitude until he meets Hannah, who brings him hope and joy...

DEATH‘ TOY

This is the captivating story of Thing/Kharon “Death” and Ksenia. It’s a n opposites attract romance with added close proximity tropes. Kharon won my heart right from the first moment he appeared in the previous installment, and I felt his pain alongside him. He’s a gentle giant and a teddy bear—sensitive and vulnerable. Ksenia is strong and determined, and I loved how she boosted his confidence and gave him a name. It was heartwarming to see how their relationship developed.

Bratva princess and assassin Ksenia Volkov is determined to take revenge on her uncle, who tried to eliminate her and her father. Injured, she gets lost in the snow and is rescued by Thing, who takes her to his family’s hidden castle.
Thing—the angel of death—was chained and imprisoned in the cellar by Abaddon for centuries and loves the solitude he experiences in the realm of the dead, yet he is immediately drawn to Ksenia and decides to help her hunt down her uncle and search for her father…

WAR

The third part of the book is about the conjoined twins Remus and Romulus, who together embody “War.” They couldn’t be more different and hate each other, just as their despicable creator-father intended. While Remus is a born rebel who loves chaos and excitement, Romulus is the level-headed, self-controlled brother who craves stability and order and always has to clean up after Remus. I liked Romulus a lot from the start, while I didn’t like Remus at first, but he grew on me as I came to understand his—or rather, their—inner conflicts and the manipulations they were subjected to. Lauren is insecure but curious and intelligent, and she’s a perfect match for the two rival brothers who have to share a body. This story is a love triangle MFM romance, and faster-paced and more action-packed than the previous two.

Now that two of his brothers have found happiness with their consorts, Remus wants one for himself too. With the help of his youngest brother, Layden, he manages to subdue his hated conjoined twin, Romulus, and flies off to the humans to find a consort for himself.
Lauren Martínez is unhappy with her life. She is single, unemployed, and curvy, lives with her toxic mother, and wants to break free from her mundane daily life and boring existence. She craves excitement and adventure, so she is immediately ready to accompany the exciting angel when he sweeps her away and carries her to a magical castle in the middle of nowhere.
Lauren is drawn to the chaos-loving Remus, but his controlled conjoined twin Romulus also stirs feelings in her, and the three of them must now find a way to navigate their relationships with one another while the castle is under attack by an unknown force and the entire world is suddenly in danger…

HUNGER

The fourth volume tells the story of Layden and Phoenix. It is a “friends-to-lovers” romance with added arranged marriage and second chance tropes, and is packed with emotion, action, danger, secrets, surprising twists, steamy love scenes, and a heartwarming conclusion to the series. There is more to these two likable, complex protagonists then you’d expect. I loved slow-burning love story, their connection and the chemistry between them.
The book tells their story across two timelines —when they first meet and when they see each other again.

Centuries ago, the youngest of the four horsemen—Layden—was the only brother who stood up to their tyrannical father. In the process, his father cut off his wings and tried to kill him. His brothers, believing him to be dead, buried him alive. There in the forest, Layden spent centuries in self-imposed exile until Phoenix—while fleeing her home and her devious grandfather, the vampire Vlad Dracul —stumbled upon him by chance and brought him back to life. Phoenix, who is bound to her grandfather by blood and harbors dark secrets of her own, returns home with Layden and teaches him magic and modern life, but must send him away before he comes to harm at her hands or Vlad’s.
Years later, when the brothers’ castle is attacked and the world is threatened by an angelic AI, Layden and his brothers ask Phoenix and her powerful vampire grandfather for magical help and refuge. In return, Layden and Phoenix must marry at the behest of her manipulative grandfather and produce supernatural offspring…

If monster romance is your catnip, dive into Stasia Black’s Horsemen of the Apocalypse Consorts, now bundled into one gloriously dark, decadent box set. Four full-length novels. Four fearsome Horsemen. Four resilient women. And enough morally gray tension and monster-sized devotion to make your toes curl. But readers beware – this series has a smorgasbord of triggers. It’s dark. It’s messy. It pushes boundaries. So, check the content warnings and read responsibly.
Monster’s Bride
We begin with Abaddon. Abaddon is the first Horseman of the Apocalypse, better known as Pestilence. Once the scourge he and his brothers were created to be, they were feared by the world, but now he’s alone. Until she appears and Abaddon decides he will no longer be alone. Hannah shows up seeking a cure for her debilitating illness. But at what cost and is she willing to accept his offer of her health in exchange for becoming his consort. Forever. This book opens with heavy dub-con energy. Abaddon’s dominance is overwhelming, even uncomfortable at times. It’s almost as if Abaddon does care what Hannah wants or thinks. You’ll likely find yourself asking the same question Hannah does: am I a consort or a slave? But here’s where the story shines. What starts as coercion slowly evolves into transformation. Abaddon learns that control without care is hollow, and Hannah, far stronger than she first appears, pushes back in ways that force him to grow. Their dynamic shifts from imbalance to something far more layered. Dark? Absolutely. But there’s emotional evolution beneath the brutality.
Death’s Toy
Kharon, known as “Thing” (a name I firmly refuse to use) is Death incarnate, six-armed and shrouded in isolation. He has convinced himself he deserves to be alone… until Ksenia runs into him, covered in blood and terrified. Yes. Six arms. Let your imagination do the rest. Despite his fearsome title, Kharon is surprisingly gentle. Haunted by guilt and the only brother who seems to carry true remorse, he’s tender in a way that sneaks up on you. Ksenia, meanwhile, is a lethal assassin fueled by vengeance after witnessing her uncle’s coup and presumably kill her father. She’s fierce, focused and quietly lost. Their pairing feels inevitable, but their story isn’t all doom and decay. There’s sweetness woven into the heat, vulnerability tucked inside the action. Kharon doesn’t just claim Ksenia, he helps her rediscover her purpose. And the spice? Plentiful. Balanced by heart.
War
Now things get truly wild. Romulus and Remus are conjoined twins who share a body, and they are War. Literally two-faced, with Romulus residing at the back of Remus’s head, taking control at the worst possible moments. Remus is wild, volatile, and impulsive. Romulus is calculating, strategic, and controlled. They want a consort like their brothers… but can’t even communicate directly with each other. Enter Lauren. Bruised by a lifetime of emotional abuse from her mother and freshly betrayed by her cheating boyfriend, Lauren’s self-worth is hanging by a thread. So, when an angel descends from the sky asking for a volunteer consort, she steps forward. And this is where the story flips expectations. Lauren sees past the madness and the monstrous reputation. She sees hurt. She sees loneliness. She sees two fractured beings desperate for acceptance. In turn, they see her—really see her—in a way no one else ever has. There are bold new world-building elements introduced here that can feel a little sudden, and at times it’s a lot to process. But the emotional core—this awkward, brazen, chaotic courtship—makes it worthwhile. Watching this unconventional trio learn how to function as a unit is surprisingly tender and certainly unique.
Hunger
Layden (Famine), presumed dead, was secretly saved by Phoenix—a vampire… or something far more complex. They fell in love once a decade ago, only to be torn apart by her grandfather. Now fate—and manipulation—forces them back together in a second-chance, forced-marriage scenario brimming with unresolved pain. This installment weaves between past and present, giving us their origin through Phoenix’s perspective and their unexpected reunion through Layden’s. The structure works beautifully, layering heartbreak and longing in a way that makes their reconnection ache in the best way, though it doesn’t get off to the easiest start. Like War, this book introduces more new elements, and the finale feels slightly rushed although it does tie everything together. But the emotional payoff is well worth it. The twists, betrayals, and long-awaited answers keep the momentum high right down to the jaw-dropping finale.
Overall
Dark, daring, and unapologetically monster-forward, this series delivers high heat, emotional growth, and heroines who refuse to stay small. Each woman changes her Horseman, not by softening herself, but by demanding to be seen and valued. It’s raw. It’s intense. It’s sometimes uncomfortable. But it’s also deeply romantic in its own feral way. If you like your love stories with claws, moral ambiguity, and redemption arcs big enough to match the apocalypse, this box set absolutely deserves a spot on your shelf.

Stasia Black has blown my world apart and put the shattered pieces back together. I never know what to expect when I read her books and this one was no different. I knew it was going to be naughty fantasy but beyond that I had no clue how much edge of my seat riding I was going to be doing.

This is the complete box set of Angels & Monsters featuring the 4 Horseman of the Apocalypse.

Book 1 is Monster’s Bride.

Abaddon is a beast who was created by his Father. He is one of the 4 Horseman of the Apocolypse also know as Pestilence. He is the keeper of his remaining two brothers and lives a lonely life sometimes away from his home so as to not be buried under the responsibility of dealing with Death and War.

Hannah is a mortal women in search of healing from something beyond her own world. She finds Abaddon in a cave on a mountain and agrees to become his consort in exchange for healing her disability.

This story has Beauty and The Beast vibes, but with supernatural sexy scenes that will knock your socks off. I love how Hannah gets Abaddon to realize his thinking and his ways need to change and she challenges him at every turn. They are so well suited for each other but both are hard headed.

Book 2 is Deaths Toy.

Thing also known Death is a realm jumper. But he has only ever jumped to the shadow realm as it’s where he feels most comfortable. His life has been spent fighting for his father’s wars or until recently chained in the dungeon of the family home by his brother, Abaddon.

Ksenia somehow ended up on the run and ran right into the castle garden after her Uncle took out her father, in an unexpected attack. Now she seeks vengeance but has no idea where she is and trusts no one. But after her initial shock of seeing Thing she feels a pull she can’t explain.

These two were fun to get to know. Again a strong heroine and Thing is so big hearted under the stone facade. He doesn’t believe anyone could possibly love him because of what he has done and who he believes himself to be. It was a change to see the man struggling to feel worthy of affection.

Book 3 is War

Remus and Romulus are literally two sides of the same head who share a body, also known as War. Remus is the one who lives for the battle, he loves the bloodshed and the adrenaline rush he gets from the kill. Romulus is the tactician, the thinker, the planner and the level headed brother. Even though they share a body they cannot communicate with each not have they even wanted to.

Lauren is struggling with everything in her life. Her mother wants her out of her house, her boyfriend found someone younger, thinner and more of everything Lauren isn’t. So when this angel flew down into the town square and asked for a volunteer consort she raised her hand. Now she doesn’t know what she signed up for since Remus only gives half truths. But she is drawn to him like a moth to a flame.

These three were so much fun to learn about. Lauren is exactly what the brothers needed and the way she brought the brothers together was amazing. My favorite and least favorite part was when Remus started to cut Romulus away from his mind, body and spirit only to realize he wouldn’t be who he is if he did so. I wanted to rant and scream at him but in the end he made the right decision.

Book 4 is Hunger

Layden also know as Famine was thought to have died. His father cut off his wings and then poured hellmetal over the numbs so they would never grow back then drove a sword through his heart. His brothers stood by shell shocked and watched while their father destroyed their brother. Abaddon finally lost it and killed their father and then buried Layden, only they buried him alive.

Phoenix is a spirit from another realm who fought her way out of the dark and cold to walk in the light and warmth of the human realm. She uses the vampires to help keep her healthy and at full strength as blood is her lifeline, although indirectly. She finds Layden in the forest looking like death and nurses him back to health. But she can’t afford attachments and doesn’t think she deserves happiness.

This was the final book and it wrapped up all the drama with all the families so nicely. It was a wide ride and I enjoyed every minute of this collection.

Stasia has a way with her writing that pulls you in and holds you captive. You feel like you’re part of the story and you can vividly see the characters and wants to rant and scream, and love and lust with each of them. I have never been one for fantasy monsters but this book did all sorts of things for me.

If you love romantasy with otherworldly beings, epic battles, dragons, monsters, touch her and die vibes this series has it all

So, first off, I'm not fond of Abaddon. Even after he learns not to be such a controlling, aggressive dick, he's still a pretty controlling, aggressive dick. Also, let's be honest, no matter how much he and Hannah say/think that she "wants it" (usually because she's "so wet for him" [which is problematic justification, btw]) doesn't negate the fact their whole sexual relationship started out noncon. The fact he refused to let Hannah wear clothes, even when he knew/suspected she was probably uncomfortable in their frozen wasteland castle for, like, 80% of their book, made her eat on the floor for most of their book, and, generally, didn't seem to care what she thought, wanted, had to say, or how she felt until he found out she was pregnant was gross. Of all the Stasia Black books I've read, I think Abaddon was probably my least favorite, an his relationship with Hannah makes a strong argument for Stockholm syndrome, even though that's been largely dismissed by the psychological and psychiatric fields. Speaking of Hannah, she felt like a very boring FMC to me. I understand that she had/has trauma from her illness, her mother, and her garbage ex, (and I'm making a conscious effort here not to go into how she went from one controlling relationship to another) but the way so much of her plot was really just came down to "I love him, no, I hate him" or "oh yeah, I'm healed now, but I'm gonna keep using my illness to justify my bad decisions" was, at best, dull, and frequently frustrating

Kharon, though. Oh, my heart. I loved him. The way he was so patient with Ksenia, and tried so hard to give her the time and space she needed? Truly appreciated that. Also, while I know the first book in the series had the heavy work of introducing and establishing the characters and world, (even though it's basically our own) this book felt like it moved faster, developed the characters more, and fleshed out the over-arcing plotline of the series more than the first book did. Also, I loved Ksenia and her clearly autism-coded characteristics. Oh, and that was still better than Pavel deserved

So far, Remus is a better side character than MMC. So obnoxious, childish, and arrogant. His traits that were amusing as a side character are just annoying when the story's about him. I mean, congrats on giving the MMCs all their own distinct personalities, but, ugh, this one. Wow, sixteen chapters in, and everyone is just the worst in this one, aren't they?

Questions and observation:
Is it ever explained how Creator-Father knew Ksenia was Kharon's consort/mate/whatever, or was it just lucky/coincidence that he happened to pick her for him?
Do all the women have to lose any way to communicate with the outside world as soon as they meet their MMC? Is that just a coincidental plot point, or is that intentional to help the "bonding" process?
All the FMCs seem to have some deep, unresolved trauma and/or major self-esteem issues. Again, coincidence or intentional? Because it's starting to feel like a pattern, and that makes it less romantic and more red-flag. Especially when these women are ending up pregnant in a frozen wasteland castle with only their partners, their partner's brothers, the brothers' consorts, and some children as company
For being away from humans for 200 years, the older brothers sure adapted to current vernacular quickly. Is that a shared ability of theirs?
Lauren makes several references to Romulus/family drama before finding out about Remus' brothers. Was a previous conversation about them cut in editing?
A lot of parts contradict other parts. For example, Lauren refers to herself as a 28-year-old virgin on the first page, then goes on to talk about sex with Michael several times

I'll add more as I work through the other two books in this set.

Unique yet interconnected

Monster’s Bride
Accepting one’s situation and moving forward to live your best life is the path to true happiness. I really liked the backstory of both Hannah and Abaddon… so twisted and dark! Although different situations, each has similar personal insecurities around trust, love and self worth in general. It was satisfying to see the personal connections and acknowledgment of true feelings of several characters. A HFN with a hint of a hidden future threat made this a great story.

Death’s Toy ( previously “Thing”)
Ksenia enters this story running for her life through the snow. When Thing encounters her, intentions on both sides are unclear. I found that some of the backstory pieces for both Thing and Ksenia revealed so many similar feelings. The notion of revenge while bracing for possible threats from other sources kept this story moving along. Emerging romance/suspense blended with anti-hero themes made this a very satisfying read.

War (previously “Between Brothers”).
Unique Threesome:
I was quite curious how Remus and Romulus would ever “date” while sharing a body. Watching their story unfold with Lauren was as quite personal and heartfelt in a genuinely-getting-to-know-the-real-you way. It is so true that psychological harms through repeat hurtful or degrading messages can have such deep negative effects. The action in the story also triggers taking the entire family to a “safer location”was great. More mythical creatures with runes, magic and other “special abilities” made for new connections and unique things to happen. Power, making the “right decisions “ while remaining truthful brought a wonderful end to this story for this trio.

Hunger
Satisfying conclusion.
As book four in the series, I was very curious as to how Layden and Phoenix’s story would be portrayed. I really enjoyed the flashback presentation of their connection from 10 years ago as it really helped to give context to who Layden was and some of his actions. This was just a fabulous suspense otherworldly magical monster story with just so many details and possibilities presented. The big reveal at the end was certainly unexpected and also satisfying in a way to have closure.

Angels and Monsters is the complete Dark Horsemen's Brides series by Stasia Black.

As with all Stasia Black books, you can expect sassy heroines, super alpha heroes (or "monsters" in this case) and gripping storylines with a smattering of sexual chemistry and falling in love.

Based loosely on the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, Angels and Monsters is a series of books where the "monster" has to take a look at himself and decide whether he will continue to be who he was told he was or choose to be something different. The heroines are smart, strong and sassy. All is not what it seems. Each couple battles hidden and seen foes - from an evil father, uncle and grandfather to the voices within to struggling with a world you don't understand to conquering old hurts and disabling emotions to choosing to forgive (even when you have reasons not to) to seeing the value in themselves and the ones chosen to be their "consort." These are stories of personal growth while battling extreme circumstances (saving the world) and healing from mental, emotional and physical abuse. These characters have choices to make: to walk in goodness versus darkness, choosing love over hate/revenge, and choosing to be a better person - in spite of what you used to do or who you used to be. The heroines choose to love these "monsters" as they see the man underneath. The heroines are courageous, spunky and sassy.

These are all great books but my favorites were Monster's Bride (Abaddon and Hannah) and Thing ("Thing" and Ksenia). I struggled a little with Between Brothers as we are introduced to a whole 'nother level of crazy and characters (Remus was great!). Layden's story was different and I was so hoping he'd get his happily ever after (a consort to love him along with new wings).

All in all this is a good series. Well worth the time to read. Trigger warnings (TWs) - as with all Stasia Black books, check the TWs before reading.

Beast: This was an interesting read. It took a bit to get into but was worth it. Abaddon is a very wounded beast. His scares are so deep due to having only experienced violence from his creation. His upbringing was horrible. It will take time and love to overcome even some of it. Hannah is looking for her body to match herself on the inside. She has had enough of her life as it is. She wants a change. She wants to be healed so she can have a life. So a deal with the devil is what she will do. Not knowing how close she really is to one. But she comes to find that he may be a beast but he is the first person to let her be herself. Beast/Abaddon helps her come out of her shell and even shows her how her old life was so empty. Add in family drama and you have a great book.

Thing: This was a great second book in the series. Thing as he is known is a very interesting character. He is a very intelligent and caring person with the people he finds worth it. He will hold them close with his six arms. Yep six of them so let’s just say sexy time is off the charts handsy. Offering to help Ksenia and in doing so get his name from her Kharon. She gives him reason and purpose with just asking for him to help her. She is in their territory and they don’t know why. She doesn’t trust. She doesn’t like anyone. But she asks Kharon to accompany her out of their world and back to hers. They have a journey to take but it’s more than just the physical one. It’s an emotional and eye opening one too. For the first time Kharon opens up and he loves with his whole being. And Ksenia not only loves back she accepts him for himself too.

Hunger:
This is about Hunger or Layden. He is suffering in the woods even Phoenix finds him. This is a great telling of a tale of this mixed matched couple. He is filled with desire but is also available for something to happen. Phoenix is closed off to everyone but is so strong.
This story made my heart arch just reading the words on the pages. Their story will hunt me for a while.

Stasia Black's book Angels and Monsters, is the complete Horsemen of the Apocalypse series, four books based on the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. However, these aren't the typical Horsemen of the Apocalypse as they are also loosely based on Mary Shelley's Frankenstein.

Four brothers are created by a Fallen Angel in hopes of becoming the most powerful deity in existence. They're created as a means to wipe out humanity but when the youngest brother is removed by their Creator for not being good enough, the oldest quickly dispatches their creator to protect his other brothers and humanity, though it takes them a while to realize that is what they did due to the abuse they suffered from their Creator.

Each Horseman slowly learns what it means to grow, love, and become a family as they each find the person meant for them. Together, they learn compassion, grow a conscience, and what it means to be human (even when they technically they aren't).

The way Ms. Black draws the readers in, the way she keeps such a fierce hold on the readers emotions as they desperately struggle to stay awake just to read "one more chapter", the descriptions she uses to hold the readers interest, she should be listed as one of Amazon's best Paranormal authors.

For readers new to Stasia Black, reading Angels and Monsters is a great way to be introduced to her work. Not only will this anthology allow readers to read the entire series from start to finish, but readers get the added bonus of feeling like they're in an alternate fairytale the entire time they're reading. Angels and Monsters truly is one of Ms. Black's best books, and the Horsemen of the Apocalypse will make readers fall in love with the Beast all over again.

Horsemen of the Apocalypse is a paranormal monster romance collection that truly stands out within the dark romance genre. Each story centers around monstrous figures inspired by the concept of the Horsemen, and while the premise might sound familiar, the execution feels anything but predictable.
What impressed me most is how unique the plots are. None of the stories feel recycled or formulaic. Each one brings its own tone, emotional arc, and dynamic between the characters. The worldbuilding is especially rich—detailed, immersive, and layered in a way that makes the setting feel fully realized rather than just a backdrop for the romance.
The characters are well developed, with depth that goes beyond simple dark romance tropes. Some stories lean darker than others, but all firmly belong within the dark monster romance genre. The emotional stakes are high, and the relationships are intense, sometimes brutal, but always compelling.
Another strength is the length of each installment. They’re not rushed novellas—they have the substance and development of well-written full romances, allowing the connections and conflicts to unfold properly.
Overall, I genuinely enjoyed every story in this collection. It’s a strong addition for readers who love dark paranormal monster romance with solid worldbuilding and layered characters. That said, the trigger warnings should absolutely be taken seriously. These stories don’t shy away from darker themes.
If you’re comfortable with that and enjoy intense, atmospheric monster romances, this collection is definitely worth reading.

The full and complete series of the Monster's Consort stories.

Monster's Bride - Trust, like hope, is a tenuous thing. It only takes one moment to either break the fragile chain, or to solder it tight. Hannah and Abbadon have torments that have prevented their future from being bright. Whether it's from family or other's actions, they have only seen the darkness. Together they become stronger.

Thing - Thing may be a monster, but he is a monster with a heart of gold. Falling for Ksenia, despite her brassiness and her offputting nature, creating a home and a safety net as well as a bond just shows that beauty is only important to those who seek physical perfection on the outside.

Between Brothers - I really like the two-faced cover of the story (not currently showing on GR) and the premise of the story... two gods in the body of one. Remus and Romulus are tied together but with very distinct personalities and desires. Their anger towards one another is palpable. And Lauren's entry into their world is not a choice made by both. This is the third story of the Monster's Consorts series and focuses on not just the sibling rivalry, but also the possible destruction of the world.

Hunger - I have a vivid imagination and never laughed so hard at the first chapter shenanigans. A 'pretend' make out session just so that those who were listening would believe that the marriage was consummated...bwahahaha. I loved that it only took a little bit of confusion before Layton caught on that that was what Phoenix was doing.

What a ride.

What do you get when the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse seek love? A whole lot of adventure.

When you need a miracle, when you're desperate, you do the impossible. No mountain high enough and all that. So begins the story of Abaddon and Hannah, a woman who is desperate to be cured as she's quickly heading towards death. Who better than Pestilence to help a gal out?

Then we get to meet Death aka Kharon. He sees a woman running, covered in blood, screaming in fear. She bursts into his life at a time when he's struggling with his new reality. These two, one is Death, the other an assassin. What could go wrong?

Not to be left out, conjoined twins Remus and Romulus (War) want love, too. Well, Remus does, so he goes out and hunts down a woman. Lauren, a disgruntled with her life woman, volunteers as tribute and finds him charming. She finds Romulus annoying. So begins their story.

We finally meet with the baby brother, Famine, aka Layden, who falls for the granddaughter of Vlad Dracul. Though all is not as it would seem.

Each story compliments the other. The four brothers lives intersect throughout all four books. I loved having the complete saga together in one continuous book. It's four love stories wrapped around a central mission.

Bravo, Stasia Black.

**My review is just based on the first book because I just couldn't push myself to finish the series.**

This is not my first "The Four Horsemen of The Apocalypse" series that I've read, so I was interested in reading how other authors would write their stories. Unfortunately, this one wasn't the one for me. Monster's Bride started off good, but the story went downhill for me. There was a lot of back-and-forth anger and forgiveness between Hannah and Beast. Understandably, Beast was never really around humans and was only doing what he was taught by his Father-Creator, however, it became too much. I liked the kindness and "family" aspect that Hannah tried to show the brothers, but things always went wrong. The Four Horsemen was a bunch of monsters with anger issues and throwing tantrums. Either they were working together or fighting, and it was too much. Throw in Hannah always running, even to people who treated her terrible was ridiculous. The story had action, steamy scenes, forgiveness, anger, tantrums, fighting, pregnancy and more but unfortunately for me this was unfinished because this wasn't the one for me. I would still recommend readers giving this series a try. Just because this series wasn't the one for me doesn't mean it won't be for others.

What starts as a dark, monster-heavy fantasy quickly turns into something surprisingly emotional, with each story digging into themes of loneliness, identity and choice. The Horsemen are terrifying, ruthless figures on the surface, yet what kept me hooked was watching those sharp edges slowly crack as they’re forced to confront what they’ve become and what they still might be capable of.

The heroines are a real highlight throughout. They’re not passive prizes or wide-eyed victims, but women who push back, question everything, and refuse to be diminished by the power imbalance. Each relationship feels distinct, shaped by the particular wounds and histories of both characters, and the romances balance darkness with genuine connection. Some stories resonated with me more than others, but even the ones I struggled with still added depth to the overall arc of the saga. By the end, it felt like a complete, cohesive journey about monsters choosing love over destruction and women strong enough to demand more from them. A bold, intense series that rewards sticking with it.

Angels and Monsters — the complete Dark Horsemen’s Brides series by Stasia Black — is dark, addictive, redemptive romance at its best.
Sassy, fearless heroines. Dangerous, broken “monster” heroes. Scorching chemistry. High-stakes emotion.
Inspired by the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, each book forces a powerful, villain-coded man to confront his past and choose: stay the monster he was made to be… or fight to become something more.
The heroines? Smart, bold, and unapologetically spicy. They see the man beneath the darkness and love him anyway—while facing evil families, inner demons, trauma, and world-ending threats.
These are stories of healing, forgiveness, choosing love over revenge, and becoming better—together.
Between Brothers threw a lot of chaos at me (Remus stole the show), and I was dying for Layden to get his HEA with new wings and real love.
If you crave intense, emotional, monster romance with strong heroines and serious redemption arcs—this series hits hard. Highly addictive! 4.5 stars from me.

Stasia Black’s boxset takes the Four Horsemen and turns them into a high-stakes trauma convention where everyone needs a therapist more than a consort. We start with Abaddon, who thinks kidnapping is a valid form of courtship and that making a woman eat off the floor is "romantic" dominance. Hannah’s quick transition from "he's a monster" to "he's my world" smells heavily of Stockholm syndrome, especially since he didn't care about her feelings until she was carrying his heir. Kharon was a much-needed palate cleanser with his six arms and actual patience, though Ksenia's "assassin" skills seemed to vanish the moment she hit the snow. The conjoined twin situation with Remus and Romulus was a logistical headache that made the "will they, won't they" dynamic feel more like a crowded elevator ride. By the time we get to Layden and his vampire-adjacent drama, the plot introduces so many new magical rules that the ending feels like it was written on a deadline that expired an hour prior. It is a gritty, messy collection that tries to polish some very dark themes with "happily ever after" glitter.

Angels and Monsters gives you Black’s wonderful Monsters’ Consorts series about the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse all in one volume. She’s also made some adjustments to the stories based on reader feedback. I think that was a smart move to make, as the overall arc of the series is complex, and working to balance out that arc with the primary love stories was challenging on my initial reads of these.

I love Black’s take on the horsemen, particularly that they really are monsters and not just human-looking embodiments of terrifying aspects of life. I especially admired how she handled Romulus and Remus as conjoined twins, which is something I’d never read in romance before. She manages to incorporate a lot of classic romance tropes in this series as well.

If you like fantasy romance and monster romance, you simply can’t lose with this series. It’s a unique romance read, and that’s saying a lot these days. It was one of my favorites over the last few years, and now that you can get it all in one volume, you can see how it builds and interconnects. So read it and enjoy!

This was honestly such a fun and spicy read. It's long - 4 complete stories. There's one for each of the 4 Horsemen: War, pestilence, famine, death.
We first meet Hannah - who voluntarily agrees to be Consort to the Beast in exchange for getting her health back. Their struggle to understand each other is tangled up in their physical relationship (which is intense to say the least). The other 3 horsemen are his brothers, and they each find their own consort or mates in their own ways. My favorite was Romulus and Remus. The banter and wit in their story was so much fun to read. Each of the Horsemen becomes better than they were - and the women are strong and independent. The relationships are each different, but are true relationships of equals where the parties make each other better.
The spice in here is HOT, but part of the stories.
This is LONG because it truly is 4 books. But so much fun to read. You will not regret it!.

This 4 book series is an interesting and steamy paranormal romance. Formally Released as Monsters'Consorts series.
Monster's Bride-Woman searches the world for a medical miracle and comes across a Chimera who makes her a deal.
Death's Toy- A Woman gets lost in the forest covered in blood and runs into a blue man with 6 arms.
War- A man has two faces, one takes control while the other sleeps. When the unhinged one takes control he goes to steal a consort but one volunteers.
Hunger-The angel who was thought dead after having his wings cut is forced into a wedding with the woman who saved his life years ago.
These are all great, page turning stories with unique lore and lots of spice. I thought these were fun and unexpected. I would recommend these to anyone who loves paranormal romance.

The Monsters’ Consorts series about the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse all in one volume!
I couldn't resist!
Especially since I had only read Monster's Bride!

Monster's Bride: LOL…I loved it!!! "Gulp!" Don't get me wrong, this is not a RomCom, but the blurb, it just hit me! So, yes gulp when you are to be the consort to a monster for FOREVER!!! But, maybe, just maybe that's not such a bad thing! I enjoyed this monster romance!

Death's Toy: Ksenia was such a strong heroine! I absolutely loved how Ms. Black portrayed her. This story kept me on my toes!

War: Lauren, Remus and Romulus! If you're like me...you won't be able to put this down!

Hunger: This story was CRAZY! What Layden's father did to him! Just OMG! Phoenix, I loved her!

This reader was thrilled to be able to read the full series in one go! Wonderful!

Ooh wow...

If you didn't know, the Horseman of the Apocalypse are real, and they're in this series.

I don't usually read a lot of paranormal books (a few about werewolf and alpha/omegas from particular author's aside) but after wrapping my head around the universe/time this series is set in, I really enjoyed reading it. This wasn't a light read as I felt I needed to concentrate whilst reading to get the images right in my head as the story progressed. All of our characters go through personal growth and change throughout their story and future ones (especially Hannah and Abaddon), both the monsters and their humans. As always for Stasia, this is one beautifully dark, spicy, steamy and sexy read.

4 books in 1!

I love Stasia Black's writing it's easy-to-read and entertaining. If you're looking for a fun dark twist to the Four Horsemen this monster romance was the dark fantasy collection that will have you flying through the pages. Yes, the villains get the girls and will make you swoon. Each story is unique and had me on the edge of my seat with excitement. The characters were interesting, the plot was fun, and the spice was on point.

This collection of books was wildly entertaining and I feel like I flew through reading each book. There's such a great mix of supernatural/paranormal/fantasy, action, spice, romance, amazing FMCs, and the best part the monster men that will melt your heart and make you hot all over with their touch her and ☠️ vibes, and the way they fall for their matches.

Angels & Monsters is the complete saga of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. Included in this collection are Monster's Bride, Death's Toy, War, and Hunger. I recommend this series to everyone who loves to read dark paranormal romance. Below is my review of one of the books in the series.
Monster's Bride:
Monster's Bride is a dark and steamy fairy tale romance with a Beauty and the Beast twist. Hannah just wants to be normal but when she finds the beast who can help, she gets more than she bargained for. I don't want to give anything away but I will say if you love dark, twisted, and raw monster romance then you will love this book. I love Stasia Black's writing and I always look forward to reading whatever she writes. This book is one of her best.

Angels & Monsters is the complete collection of the books in this series that follows the horseman of the apocalypse and the women who bring them to heel!
I read and reviewed the books when they originally released individually but can never pass up a boxset.
The writing is excellent, world building imaginative, and characters well crafted.
I love fantasy romances and the dark steamy ones that tantalize and tease are what keeps those pages turning the most and these interconnected stories most assuredly meets the requirements, especially when the villain gets that girl!

Monster’s Bride
Death’s Toy
War
Hunger- part one Romulus/part two Layden.

Angels and Monsters by Stasia black is a collection of four dark romance stories based on the Monsters’ Consorts series about the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. Each book is an interesting take on one of the Horsemen with them finding love.

The conjoined twin aspect with Romulus and Remus was so intriguing and unique, especially for a romance book. I've never read anything like it. It was absolutely superb!

I can honestly say this is one series that, outside its uniqueness, which is something special on its own, is written so unbelievably well, it will lure you like a moth to a flame. To date, it's one of my fave series I've read this year. I can not state enough how special this series is and how much everyone needs to read it!

Angels & Monsters is the complete set of the Dark Horsemen's Brides Series.

Monster's Bride - wishes granted, BDSM, healing
Death's Toy - my favourite of the set, bratva themes, revenge, Thing was my favourite softy monster
War - twin brothers in the same body, forced to share, god like thinking, internal fighting between brothers
Hunger - a long lost brother back from the dead, second chance romance, an alliance bringing two groups together to fight a common enemy

I loved this series and this is a good set to get as it contains all four. I would suggest reading them in order as there are broader topics discussed as well as couples developing as the series progresses.

This quartet of stories are interconnected standalones following the lives and romances of four brothers escaping the dominion of their despotic creator god father. All stories are levels of dark, with characters who are struggling with different historical trauma or stressors. There is significant character building in all stories, as well as explicit boundary/consent establishment, and erotic intimate scenes. I enjoyed the way the story unfolded and particularly enjoyed the way reading consecutively allowed for immersion and understanding of character development between stories.

Angels and Monsters is the complete Dark Horsemen's Brides series by Stasia Black. Books include: Monster's Bride; Thing; Between Brothers; and Hunger. Based loosely on the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, these books while unique are interconnected. Each book contains characters/monsters that must battle their own foes. Beautifully well written and completely captivating with all the dark and desire you would want and so, so much more! I absolutely loved this series, and it's made all the better with it brought together in this collection.

Mythological Creature

When a collection of stories blends the four horsemen of the apocalypse with monsters of mythology the result is unprecedented. Each brother was created to be warriors but their devastation upon the world consisted of pestilence, death, war and famine. Finding their consorts was a much-needed opportunity for them to be tamed and it was absolutely intriguing. Every story had their pair, but they interconnect as a series. I found these stories to be steamy as well as profound as the character development progressed nicely. It was entertaining to read.
