Evolve with AI

I am 63 years old, and as a professional engineer in civil engineering, I am rapidly seeing significant changes in my profession due to Al. The truth is most administrative assistants, office administrators, CAD designers, surveyors, and even civil engineers are fearful for their careers in this profession. As an owner of an engineering firm, I understand their point. Is Al coming to take our jobs? The real answer is for some, the answer is yes. If we as humans do not learn to use Al as a tool, then we will be replaced. At every level in my firm we use Al, but the individuals are learning to use Al to speed up their processing of tasks and are thus able to take on more tasks. In turn, the firm is able to increase revenues and even more profits. The firms that quickly evolve with Al will succeed. This book discusses how to make the change with Al. I recommend this book.

Your worth beyond the algorithm is basically a guidebook to find the stuff you do every day that a computer just cannot copy. The part that really hit me was when the author talked about her side business selling jams at farmers markets. The book explains how having a messy career path is actually a superpower. The story about deeply listening to a coworker instead of just tracking project tasks felt so real too. The 90 day plan given in the book at the end feels like a lot of homework though. I can barely plan what I am having for dinner tonight so a 3 month schedule is a bit much. Some of the news headlines are also super depressing. If you are constantly scrolling through social media feeling like you are falling behind, you should read this. It is for anyone who needs to remember they are more than just a resume.
