Can faith move mountains? The Youngbloods are about to find out. Henry Youngblood is determined to plant a new church in Buffalo Creek, despite seemingly insurmountable obstacles. Meanwhile, his pregnant wife worries about paying the bills. One daughter has her heart set on a college education she cannot afford, and the other wants nothing more than popularity. It will take a miracle for the Youngblood family’s dreams to come true.
Carlene Havel writes Christian-themed romances and historical novels set in Biblical times. She’s lived in Turkey, Republic of the Philippines, and all over the United States. Carlene worked for a banana importer, a software development company, and everything in between. She attended several colleges and universities, including one that—surprisingly--granted her a diploma.
Reverend Henry Youngblood believes he’s being called to Buffalo Creek to plant a church. With little money and a strong dose of hope, he obtains a small slice of property and begins to build the church himself.
Henry doesn’t give up. His offer to help an unassuming gentleman secures the loan needed to continue. Materials and equipment are bought at salvage yards and the air conditioning and heating system is amazingly put together without instructions.
Unfortunately, all is not well with the Youngblood household. His wife is disappointed at the additional expenses and their two teenage daughters are unhappy at being uprooted to attend a new high school. While his oldest, Pauline, yearns for college, the youngest, Susan, only seeks popularity. Her actions land both girls in trouble.
With a new baby on the way and finances growing thin Henry confronts a city official who challenges the easements rights of the building. A miracle is needed to save the church and the Youngblood family.
Ms. Havel is an accomplished writer who delves into the emotional background of her characters. While Henry is the force of hope in this novel, his wife and daughter’s personalities and back stories are well thought out and delivered. Baxter Road Miracle will warm your heart. I highly recommend it.
I really got into this book and couldn't put it down. Loved it! A nice Christian book!!!! I love reading books where the characters are believing God for a miracle!!
Reverend Henry Youngblood has a vision for Buffalo Creek…a church. He squeezes what he can out of money earned as an insurance salesman and works hard to turn his dream into reality—much to the frustration of his pregnant wife and the local city inspector. While he and his wife debate the priorities of life and family, his daughters search to fulfill their own dreams. One looks for acceptance, and the other fights the never-ending battle for higher education. When all else fails and their hopes need to become reality. What do they really need? A miracle.
Havel weaves real-life emotion and challenge as a life of service conflicts with the survival of a family. Answering God’s call’s not always an easy task. Baxter Road Miracle offers a glimpse within the shepherd’s den, and the toll such a position takes on a family. We partake of the vision, but only He knows the price.
Baxter Road Miracle‘s written with a delicate and expert hand. I hold my five star in reserve for excellent books, and this one deserves it. Five stars.
Baxter Road Miracle took me back to my high school years in the 1960's. The author got the details so perfectly. The contrast between the two sisters described many a preacher's families. The story is not complex, but is totally enjoyable.
Rev. Youngblood was a man of great faith. He looked to God for guidance in all he did. He moved his family to another town because God told him to build a church there. Rev. Youngblood built this church with a small loan from the bank. The city manger gave him a hard time at every step. The manager sent a letter telling him he was going to tear down the building because it was too close to the city easement. How can Rev Youngblood stop him?
This story drew me right in to my own childhood. You get to see the perspective from not only the father, but also from the girl's point of view, too. I especially enjoyed how the author took seemingly unhelpful events and transformed them into God's over-the-top blessings, which is so much like real life if we only allow ourselves to see them. The ending put everything together, reminding us how our "good works," are never useless. Very charming tale, that kept me reading to the end.
Baxter Road Miracle is one of those nice light reading books that makes you feel good reading. Its the kind of book you read when you need to read about happiness and don't feel like getting into something heavy. Sometimes in life we need to escape the bad and sad thing happening in our world and be reminded of the behind the scenes miracles that our God is responsible for. I would call it a "feel good" book and would definitely recommend it.
A delightful and inspiring story, a fun read that touches the heart. I fell in love with the characters, rooted for their success, and was thrilled with the miracle.
