Boots and Buckingham

POPPY

I came to Texas to escape my grandfather's shadow at the Royal Mews and prove I'm more than a legacy name. What I got was Colton Truett-six feet of brooding cowboy who looks at me like I'm a problem he didn't ask for.

He thinks I'm just a privileged city girl playing at ranch life. That these designer boots mean I can't handle real work.

He has no idea how wrong he is. Or how much I notice the way his jaw clenches when I'm near. How his hands linger just a second too long when he hands me the reins of the lesson horse.

We fight like fire and gasoline. But lately? I'm wondering what it would feel like to burn.

COLTON

Poppy Penrose showed up on my ranch in thousand-dollar boots and a Cambridge accent, treating my life's work like some kind of academic field trip. She's sunshine and sarcasm and completely out of place in my world.

She's also brilliant. Stubborn. And dangerously beautiful when she's covered in dust and sweat, proving she can handle everything I throw at her.

I don't have time for distractions. Not when I'm barely holding my family's ranch together, watching my own dreams slip away while I honor my father's.

But when she looks at me like that-all challenge and heat-I forget every reason I should keep my distance.

Set under the endless Texas sky, Boots & Buckingham is a passionate romance of clashing worlds, stubborn hearts, and love that refuses to be tamed. The Willington series continues.
-------------------------
A forced proximity, opposites attract, Texas cowboy hero / British city-girl heroine, romance set on Texas ranch with steamy nights and family drama. Interconnected, standalone, and HEA guaranteed!

This book strutted up in thousand‑dollar boots, tossed its Cambridge accent in my face, and said “welcome to Texas, sweetheart — try not to trip.”

Boots and Buckingham is what happens when you drop a British legacy girl with designer footwear onto a Texas ranch and pair her with a cowboy who has the emotional availability of a locked barn door. Its opposites attract, forced proximity, and “I hate you but also please breathe near me again” energy from page one.

Poppy Penrose arrives in Texas determined to prove she’s more than her Royal Mews pedigree. She wants grit. She wants independence. She wants to escape her grandfather’s shadow.
What she gets is Colton Truett — six feet of brooding cowboy who looks at her like she’s a walking inconvenience wrapped in expensive leather.

He sees her boots and assumes she’s soft.
She sees his jaw clench and assumes he’s judging her.
They’re both right.
They’re both wrong.
And they’re both one argument away from kissing or committing arson.

Their dynamic is pure chaos:
• sniping
• tension
• accidental softness
• lingering touches that last a beat too long
• “I don’t like you” lies told with trembling hands

Poppy is sunshine with a backbone.
Colton is storm clouds with a secret heart.
Together? Fire and gasoline.

BUT — and here’s where your 3–3.5-star rating shines — sometimes the book leans a little too hard into the trope soup. The pacing wobbles. The drama spikes and dips. And occasionally you want to shake both of them and say, “Communicate, you beautiful idiots.”

Still, the Texas ranch setting is gorgeous, the family tension adds depth, and the chemistry?
Oh babe, the chemistry is chef’s kiss.

3–3.5 stars because:

• The banter is fun but sometimes repetitive
• The angst hits but occasionally drags
• The romance is satisfying but not earth‑shattering
• And Colton’s brooding sometimes crosses into “sir, please calm down” territory

A stubborn‑hearts, clashing‑worlds romance with heat, humour, and enough cowboy tension to lasso you in — even if it doesn’t quite hit the top tier.

Colton has always had the dream of one day running the family ranch; it's in his blood. But his father has always had other plans for him, wanting him to pursue a football career. When his father has an accident, Colton rushes home, only to find that someone else has been helping run the ranch. Her name is Poppy; she's British, and she infuriates him to no end, stepping on his toes and taking away his birthright. If also doesn't help that she is beautiful.

So this was a pretty solid romantic read, and I think the way Marcee writes really brings the characters and the world to life. I adored the scene she set with life and the ranch; it sounded idyllic, and I had a hankering to go there myself. I thought that there were aspects of the story that were handled in a really realistic way, and I thought that it did a lot of justice to the story as a whole.
However, I did not like Colton, like at all. From the get-go, I thought he was jumped-up and self-important and unbelievably rude. I also thought that, even though he was called on his behaviour a little, a lot more could have been said to him about the way he treated Poppy and in a much sterner way. He blew hot and cold all the time, with very little explanation and most of the time I thought his apologies sucked. I did like Poppy; however, I did think that she needed a bit more of a backbone, as Colton took advantage of her kindness so many times, and he did not deserve the amount of chances she gave him. Also, Colt's mom became frustrating towards the end, but I won't give anything away.
Mostly I thought this was an okay romance, about learning from mistakes and trying to be a better person. I think I might have enjoyed it more if there was a main overarching issue that they were all trying to deal with; instead, there seemed to be lots of low-stakes issues they were working through, against the backdrop of learning to recover from and work through grief. It's not to say that this approach to a story is bad; I just usually prefer an overarching theme or issue that drives the story along.
I would recommend this to anyone who is looking for a spicy cowboy romance, with an unpredictable male lead, and an enemies-to-lovers vibe. It's pretty good, and I think it makes for a solid summer read.

Boots and Buckingham (The Willington Series #2) by Fran Marcee

This isn’t the first book I’ve read by the author. Boots and Buckingham is the second book in The Willington Series, but can be read as a standalone. I absolutely adore this series so far and can’t wait for more. I honestly felt like I was a background character in this book. It’ll have you hooked from beginning to end. Colton and Poppy have to be my favorite characters so far.

Colton is off playing football when all he wants is to be home on the ranch he’ll run one day when his father can’t. After winning their last game Colt gets a call from home saying he needed to come home right away. When he gets there he learns that alot has changed since he was home last. Now he’s got to deal with someone who has been helping run the ranch while he was at school. The quote I chose for him is this: “Don’t worry about it. But let’s get something straight. I’m in charge here while Dad’s in the hospital. Got it?”

Poppy has been helping out on the ranch for a while now. Now with Colton being home she feels like she’s stepping on toes. She doesn’t want to be a bother, but she can’t let Colt use her as a doormat. She takes his lead and does what she is told. The quote I chose for her is this because it shows that she can stand up for herself: “Listen, COL-TON—I studied Equine Science and Business Management at the Royal Veterinary College in London. Do you even know what that means, Colton? I spent years studying breeding, nutrition, stable management, and business strategy from the best professionals in the world. And before that? I grew up handling some of the finest horses in existence— the Queen’s horses, right there in Buckingham Palace. And just so we’re clear? I won the Junior Division of the Windsor Gate World Dressage Competition two years ago. So no, I’m not here to play horsey— I know exactly what I’m doing.”

This book is so good that I finished it in less than 48 hours because i just didn't want to put it down. This book is part of The Willington Series, but can absolutely be read as a stand-alone, which I did because I was unaware of the others at the time. Colt Truett is a college football player whose entire life goes from carefree fun on campus to stress and worry when his dad has an accident on the family horse ranch and he suddenly must return home to help. Colt's dad is older and already has issues with his memory, but Colt is deeply loyal to his family above all else, and has always viewed the ranch as his future and his birthright. When he returns home and finds that his parents have brought on a stranger -- and a British stranger at that-- to help with the running and management of the ranch, Colt takes out his stress and temper on poor Poppy. Poppy is only on the ranch to help with the management while she is finishing her schooling with an internship. Poppy's family has plenty of experience with horses, which she tries to explain to Colt, it's just too bad he won't listen.

This book had me laughing out loud, then in tears within pages. I didn't want it to end, nor did I want to leave Colt and Poppy's world.

Fran Marcee is a brand new author for me and I'm so glad I picked up Boots and Buckingham! While this book is a part of The Willington Series it can definitely be read as a standalone. I didn't read the first book, but had no problem understanding or connecting the characters. This small-town, enemies-to-lovers romance is so beautifully written that I couldn't help but get lost in the story. The world-building transports you to the hill country of Texas; I could see the open land of the Tumbleweed Ranch, see and smell the horses in the corrals, and feel the sadness, anger, and hurt of the characters. The characters were realistically flawed and heartbreakingly believable. I found myself wanting to visit the Tumbleweed and become friends with Colton, Poppy, and the rest of the characters. Colton with his larger-than-life cowboy demeanor, and Poppy with her British upbringing have an undeniable opposites attract connection that is raw and real and had me invested from the start. This book had me in all the feels; I laughed, I cried, I yelled, I gasped. I cannot wait to read more by Fran Marcee!

Y'all know I have a soft spot for a good cowboy romance, and Boots and Buckingham by Fran Marcee did not disappoint!

Levi is the kind of man every romance reader hopes to find between the pages. Strong, loyal, patient, and willing to fight for the people he loves. Harper is no damsel in distress either. She's independent, a little stubborn, and trying to figure out life on her own terms, which made me cheer for her even more.

What I loved most was that this story isn't just about romance. It's about healing, trust, and finding the courage to open your heart again after life has knocked you around a bit. As someone who believes our hearts can mend in the most unexpected ways, that part really spoke to me.

The small-town Texas setting felt like home, the supporting characters added so much warmth, and there was enough mystery and drama to keep me saying, "Just one more chapter"... which, of course, turned into several more!

If you love cowboy boots, strong women, good men, and stories full of heart and second chances, put this one on your reading list. Fran Marcee gave me all the feels, and I enjoyed every minute of it.

This is the 2nd book in the Willington Series. This can be read as a standalone. It was a captivating romance where 2 opposites attract. Poppy and Colton couldn’t be any different if they tried.
Poppy is a city girl from a privileged background. She turns up onto Colton’s ranch in designer boots and a need to prove people wrong. But what she didn’t anticipate was Colton.

Colton isn’t impressed when he meets Poppy. All he sees is a woman who wants to play at being a ranch hand. He doesn’t expect to start having feelings for her and he can’t afford the distraction as he is trying to save his families ranch.

What follows is a story about two people who fight against their connection but the fight is unless as the more they fight and challenge each other the closer they become.

This was a beautiful written story. The author creates characters and a world that you just want to jump into. I was fully invested in the characters story and at times I felt like banging their heads together. I look forward to reading more from this author.

Boots and Buckingham (The Willington Series) by Fran Marcee. I loved this book so much that I read it in a day. It is part of a series but can be read as a standalone. I always recommend reading them in order though but that is just me. This is the story of Poppy who is trying to make a name for herself and get out of her grandfather's reputation. Even though she looks designer and like a city girl she can hold her own. Colton is a good looking cowboy but he is a pain in her butt and he doesn't believe she can do anything. Colton looks at Poppy as a pain in his butt. He doesn't have time to deal with her especially since his dad's accident on the ranch. He is having to pick up a lot of the slack and with a stupid British city slicker underfoot he doesn't have time to coddle her. The only problem is even with her driving him crazy she is getting to him. He feels the chemistry and she feels it as well but can they get past each other to find out what's there. I loved this book, its probably one of my favorites!

Boots and Buckingham (The Willington Series) by Fran Marcee.
4 of 5 Stars.

This is an enjoyable and entertaining opposites attract romance, between a Texas cowboy and a British city-girl. Poppy was in her grandfather’s shadow at the Royal Mews, and so takes a job on a Texas ranch to escape. Poppy isn’t afraid of hard work or getting her hands dirty. However, Colton, who is trying to keep his family’s ranch going, thinks she’s just a privileged city girl, playing at ranch life when they first meet. Having to work together every day both their opinions of one another start to change, and their relationship becomes passionate. But can it last long term when they come from two very different and clashing worlds. This forced proximity romance has a great mix of family drama, steamy scenes, and of course love. The Texas ranch life is brought vividly to life which made me feel fully immersed in the story. Whilst the chemistry between Poppy and Colton sizzles off the page. Although part of an interconnected series it can be read as a standalone story, and it has a guaranteed HEA!

I have read a couple of books from this author and she always surprises me. I love a good cowboy romance but she always exceeds my expectations. This is the second book from The Willington series. It could be read as a stand alone but there are previous characters in this story as well. You will fall in love with these characters right from the start. It only took me a few hours to devour this amazing story. I can’t wait to see who she will write about next.

Poppy Penrose wants a fresh start and to get out of her grandpa's shadow. She finds herself in the small town that she is ready for. When she meets Colton Truett and she knows he feels about her. She is just another city girl playing with a ranch. Poppy has done some hard work in her life and now she has to prove herself again. Poppy and Colton start to get to know each other and sparks start to fly. Will Poppy find the new start that she wants or she still be in her grandpa’s shadow?

Of course I read this book! As if the cover didn’t pull me in already, but I’m a born and raised Texan, so I grabbed this one immediately. While it is part of The Willington Series, it does perfectly as a standalone which is good because I picked it up before I even realized. I am definitely going back to read the first one because this author has made it easy to say yes to their work! I’m not sure if they have lived in or visited Texas often, but they certainly paint a beautifully accurate picture. If you haven’t wanted to see Texas for yourself yet, you will after this book for sure. I’ll warn you now that Levi is the absolute perfect book boyfriend, so prepare yourself for some major swooning. This book is all in my emotions with the second chances that heal your heart, strong women, and of course, the perfect cowboy. I couldn’t put it down and finished very quickly. I highly recommend picking this one up if you want to lose yourself in a heartfelt romance for the next couple days!

Colton is away from the family ranch at school and chasing his fathers dreams of him being a football star. But Colton can’t shake the small ways his aging father is different and when he comes home for the holidays, it’s all too clear he’s deteriorating faster than his mother is letting on. Rushing home after a shocking call that his father was in a horsing accident and not doing well, he finds that the family has hid a lot more from him to not burden him in school. Enter Poppy, the British woman doing her internship at the ranch. Colton feels betrayed and angry that the ranch, his ranch, is seemly run by a Brit that everyone seems to love but him. Determined to push her away and show everyone that he can run the ranch on his own, Colton takes charge and shows (and tells) everyone who the real boss is.
Forced proximity, HEA and a super fun read even though you wanted to hate Colton multiple times

Boots and Buckingham (The Willington Series)

I loved Colton almost enough to overlook his one big flaw. But my Burnt Orange heart couldn't quite look past it.

But seriously, I ended up loving Colton closer to the end and he didn't make that easy for me. He was just horrible to Poppy from the moment they met. He was lashing out at her for things she had no control of and was really a giant jerk.

Poppy became part of the Truett family when she started working on the ranch doing an internship while he was away at school. She was deeply ingrained in the day to day operations by the time he came home.

There was a little too much back and forth with their feelings for me but I still couldn't put it down.

I am looking forward to the next book in the series, curious to see who falls. Also I would be happy if Rain gets a book.

Poppy is determined to make a name for herself and not live in the shadows of a legacy created by her grandfather , leaving her British roots behind she heads for a ranch in Texas ….

Now Poppy is no fall flower and when Colton has attitude towards her , she gives as good as she gets and she surprises him at every corner and whatever challenge he he throws her way she faces head on 😉

Colton has his own dreams but puts them on hold to honour his father , dad had an accident so he left college and football dreams behind to run and save the ranch ( I’m already in love 🥹) so his patience is already thin but he’s going to eat a portion of humble pie 😜

I laughed hard , shed a few a tears and got dusty and dirty with poppy and Colton and it was time well spent 🙂 we experienced grief , healing , patience and forgiveness 🥰

This is the first book I have read in this series and may go back and read the first book in this series then come back and read this one again. Colton just wants to help his family run the ranch already but his dad Frank convinces him to go to college and play football and hopefully play in the NFL one day. Colton's family brings in Poppy to help with the ranch while Colton is in college. Until one day there is an accident and Colton is called home. He then meets Poppy and they bump heads at first, then later on in the book it softens and they start to work together to keep the ranch going. Love the characters and the storyline, parts of this book hits you in your feelings. I love this style of western books reminds of something I would see on Yellowstone. I can't wait to see what the next book in this series may bring.

Fran Marcee This book had me in my feelings the ENTIRE time! Poppy at the ranch on an internship from London. She's absolutely loving the experience she's gaining and the people she's around until he returns. Colt has been in college playing football and living life. When he's called back the "farm" after the accident He has to find his footing among everything life is throwing at him. The wild attraction to Poppy isn't helping the matter, but he isn't sure what to do or how to handle these situations coming up.

This was a fantastic intro to the series and I can't wait to see more of the Willington boys! I will say, while this is part of a series, it could easily be read as a standalone.

Colton is trying to adjust to his Dad showing signs of dementia. Then his Dad has an accident and ends up in the hospital in a medically induced coma. Then he passes away from his injuries. Now Colton has to decide between staying home and running the ranch or going back to school and trying for a football career.

He meets Poppy who is a british girl who is at the ranch on an internship and when she is finished her internship will be going back to London to work with her family for the Royal Mews. Colton is upset with her because she is running the ranch that should be his and he doesn't like the fact that she is doing a good job..

This is a very good book and I think you will enjoy it as much as I did. Check it out and see.

This book was an easy, quick, and fun read. While it was a good read, the author could add some depth of character to at least the main characters to make it a great book. I feel like there were pieces missing for me that I would have loved to have seen. I just think there could be more personality and fluidity to the characters that could send this book over the top.

Overall, I would read more by this author. I just hope to see the author blossom and develop the characters a tad more. The plot was fantastic and the scene was well laid out. I could never write a novel so I know I am judging a book by its cover, but from the numerous books I've read, a little personality could go a long way.

I loved this! It's a brilliant read! It follows Colton and Poppy as they must muddle along together running his ranch while Colton's father is in hospital and later dies. Colton thinks Poppy is trying to take over his ranch at first and he's not very nice to her at all. He just thinks she's a British air head who knows nothing about horses so Poppy goes on a mission to prove to him she is fully qualified for the role she is in. Will she be able to prove herself? And will Colton finally accept the help he sorely needs? I loved this; so sweet in places, funny and quite steamy as well and each chapter told by somebody else's PoV which I love.

Boots and Buckingham By Fran Marcee

Boots and Buckingham is a Contemporary Romance that I enjoyed reading. This is a new author to me so I wasn’t real sure what to expect going in. But I love a good Cowboy Romance and this definitely checked all the boxes. The characters are developed, relatable and complex, they bring the story to life. These two are worlds apart yet the chemistry between them tells a different story. She’s glam and he’s trying to keep it together. Can these two make it work and save one another from there worries. I highly recommend reading this book to find out what happens next. Im looking forward to reading more from this Author.

Boots and Buckingham is the second book in The Willington Series by Fran Marcee. This is a contemporary romance with enemies to lovers, forced proximity, a Texan country boy vs a British city girl, a Texan ranch setting, banter drama, adventure, family, opposites attract, and finding love unexpectedly.
The story follows Colton, a grounded, no-nonsense rancher, and Poppy Penrose, a Cambridge-educated outsider whose designer boots and sharp wit make her both fascinating and frustrating.
The story isn’t just about chemistry and romance, it’s about two people challenging each other’s worldviews and discovering love comes in unexpected ways.
Happy Reading…

Boots and Buckingham was a fun, charming romance that had me hooked from the very beginning. The chemistry between Poppy and Colton is fantastic, with plenty of witty banter, sparks, and heartfelt moments that make their relationship a joy to follow. I loved the contrast between Poppy's polished background and the rugged ranch setting, and watching her prove herself added so much depth to the story. The Texas backdrop feels vivid and inviting, bringing extra warmth and charm to the romance. With loveable characters, emotional growth, and a perfect blend of tension and heart, this is an entertaining and satisfying read that romance fans will thoroughly enjoy.

Although this is the second book in The Willington Series, it works perfectly as a standalone. Set against the vivid backdrop of a Texas hill country ranch, this captivating enemies-to-lovers romance follows Colton, a proud country cowboy, and Poppy, a resilient British city girl forced to work together to run his family's estate. While the story delivers plenty of banter, steam, and dual-perspective chemistry, it ultimately goes much deeper, exploring themes of healing, trust, and second chances. With its richly developed, relatable characters and a comforting small-town atmosphere, this heartfelt and emotional novel is an absolute must-read for fans of cowboy romance.

This book is a great small town, enemies-to-lovers romance that will pull you in from the word go. Although it is part of a series, the book can be read as a standalone without detracting from the enjoyment. I really enjoyed getting to know Poppy and Colt. Their chemistry was brilliant, as much as they each wished otherwise at first. Watching them grow together over the course of the book was really interesting.
I thought the story as well written and fit the characters so well. It was a great small town romance that makes you want to know more and is the right kind of book for that lazy weekend reading. This was an enjoyable book from start to finish.

This is a cute story about grief, healing, love, and following your dreams. Colton is a farmer and that's all he truly wants in life but his dad sees something greater in him and sets him up to have a bright and fulfilling future as a Football player. Poppy is an intern from England, working on learning more about her family's business and how she can be the best assistance to the Truett family. When tragedy strikes, Colton has to learn to manage his grief and not take it out on those who are only trying to help. This story does have a hard fought happy ending and it is one that I would read again.

While this story is part of the Willington Series, this book can be read as a standalone. In these pages, you meet Poppy and Colt; and these two are the very opposite of each other. You have Colt, who is a hardcore cowboy who lives and breathes the ranch; it's all he's wanted. Then, you meet Poppy, with her fancy upbringing and fancier clothes. Poppy leaves home to get out of her grandfather's shadow and Colt comes back to the ranch after his dad has an accident and these two clash. I laughed, I was mad a few times, and I yelled as well. I loved the snark, the stubbornness, and the realness of the story as these two find themselves. An all around great book!

While the second book in this series it can absolutely be read as a standalone story.
We meet Poppy and Colton.
Poppy wants to get out of her grandfather's shadow. She's designer clothes on the outside but hard working when the times call for it.
Colton just wants to run the ranch but gets a surprise when he's off playing football that he's needed home right now.
These two were like oil and water and honestly I liked them but I felt a little was missing for me but not enough to take me a way from the story I just didn't connect with Colton as much as I did to Poppy.
You get all the emotions with this story and it's work to the very end for these two and their happy ever after.

This book is part of the Willington series and can be read as a standalone and not feel lost in any way. I haven't read the first book but I am definitely going to go read it now. I found this book to be full of an array of emotions. There is grief, love, family, friends, and great characters. Poppy and Colt are very different from each other and both have to figure out what their future looks like. As they get to know each other their attraction grows. This was a quick, cute read mixed with some heavy emotions and a lot of love. This is the first book I have read by this author and I look forward to reading more.

I could not put this book down; I finished it within a day. It had me laughing for one minute and crying the next. This part of a series but it can be read as a standalone, I never read the first one and had no problem following, however with how much I enjoyed this book it makes me want to go backwards and read the first, which I never do! I thought the author was a great author that made you connect with the characters and feel their feelings which sometimes can be hard to do. I highly recommend it.
