Loved this one
I think this is my favourite one so far in the series.
There was something compelling about the relationship between Bryce and Tom and I liked that his position in Washington with the shifter council brought a different vibe.
I did guess who the villain was fairly early on but I’m very much looking forward to seeing where that story goes next.

‘Shifting Sands’ is a very apt title for this story – it has more twits and turns, political shenanigans, and changes in perspectives and alliances than some books twice its size! The background story of a mythical Argent having been found alive and well, the one that has been brewing in the background ever since Jesse was recognized as a member of the royal wolf-shifter line, is coming into full bloom in this fourth volume. It features Bryce, the Elk Ridge pack beta, and one of the political aides from the National Wolf Council as main characters, and both of them are right in the middle of the explosive series of events that will change the future of all shifters.
Bryce is the Elk Ridge pack beta, loyal to a fault, and unwilling to even entertain the idea of commitment. I had to smile at his attempts to ignore and dismiss the growing intimacy between the three new couples, thinking “he doth protest too much” the whole time. He may give in to the physical attraction he feels toward Tom, but he is determined that is all it is. Bryce does not believe in mates, worse, he actively despises the idea of having a partner chosen by fate or genetics or whatever the heck it is that determines who his mate is. So when he realizes Tom is his mate? He denies it all, rejects Tom and hurts him deeply.
Tom has just come out of a long-term relationship with a partner who belittled him, and told him he is boring. It destroyed his self-confidence, so when he runs into Bryce, begins to fall for him, only to be cruelly rejected, Tom takes it harder than he might have otherwise. He still does the right thing to help protect Matt and Jesse’s pact, and even the deadly danger he faces cannot stop him. But when Bryce comes after him and the situation gets out of hand, both he and Bryce realize a few truths about their relationship that mean they may need to reconsider he whole “mate thing”.
If you like shifter stories with men who fall for each other despite their best efforts, if you want to read about pack politics and national shifter interests, and if you’re looking for a read that is deeply emotional as well as an action/adventure that will keep you in suspense, then you will probably like this novella. Personally, I cannot wait for the next installment.

We finally get to Bryce’s story. Bryce is Beta to Alpha Matt and also the sort of adoptive father of Tristan. He is loyal and cares about his pack, but has been outspokenly anti-relationship and has no interest in finding his mate. But, of course, that all changes when Tom shows up.
As the story picks up with Matt and Jesse’s decision to “go public” about Jesse being an Argent as the best plan of action to keep him safe, they turned to the Shapeshifter Council in Washington. They are basically the shifter representatives in the Government who oversee all things shifter related. As Jesse has refused to go to Washington to be paraded around as proof of his Argent-ness, they must come to the pack ranch to do so. In order for this to occur, it must be scouted and secured prior to the high-level ups showing up. This is where Tom comes in. He is one of the higher security team members sent to do recon on the security issues that may occur. Tom is also relationship-shy after a previous one left him a bit emotionally drained and scarred.
But, as you can imagine, what starts as a hook-up turns into more, but the relationship stances of both guys really gets in the way, even after they discover they are mates. This has a see-saw effect on both guys; one starts to accept, the other goes the other way, and vice versa. Circumstances eventually bring them back together to getting past that though, which brings us to the rest of the story.
I like what is going on here with the Argent storyline, although I do wish it would be a bit more detailed at times. There are a number of twists and turns and danger and excitement. We do get some answers about the ones behind the slaughter of Colby’s old pack and who was behind the scheme to buy the Argent, but there are a number of questions remaining. Looks like Christian and Dave are up next which looks to be interesting in a whole other direction with them being a sort of existing partnership. This is a solid series with really likable characters to explore. It can be a bit smutty at times, but the overall story arch is interesting and keeps you on your toes. I’m looking forward to seeing how it all plays out.

The last book in this series left off with Matt's pack of misfits telling the shifter council about Jesse, and this is exactly where this book picked up at. One thing that I have really enjoyed about this series is how one book smoothly flows into the next one. Its almost seamless, almost as if the author had these as one big book but then separated them into individual stories based on certain couples, which I find kinda cool!
Bryce was someone I knew was going to have a tricky time if he ever found a mate. He likes playing the field after all, but most importantly he prioritizes his pack, Matt, and Tristan, who is his son in every way aside from being blood related, not necessarily in that order either. And I was right, when he found out Tom was his mate he rebelled against it, hard. But! He thankfully had a wake up call and he figured it out. Yay for having tough conversations!
Tom and Bryce had such a dynamic relationship from the moment they met each other, you could feel the chemistry they had through the page. I liked how they exchanged flirty banter while simultaneously staying professional and while getting to know each other better. This book is a slow burn, which I really liked, there's also some angst, and a bit of some 'will they, won't they' mixed in.
In this book we also get to learn more about who made the orders to murd3r two packs and who wanted to buy Jesse. But that being said, that's not the end for this pack, they still have more to solve. Is there any other Agents out there besides Jesse? Are they going to be under attack from other wolves now that they know who, and what, Jesse is? I'm looking forward to finding out!

This is book 4 in the recently updated series Strength of the Pack by Joy Lynn Fielding. This is definitely in the top two in the series for me. I loved everything about this book.
The two books I've been most interested in reading are Bryce and Karl's books. Both guys appear to be die-hard bachelors and are both deserving of their own hard won HEAs.
Bryce the Beta and caregiver of the pack and the town's deputy sheriff. This is the same guy that raised a stranger's son when the boy's Mom realized that she couldn't take care of him herself. So much love and so much caring he deserves someone who can in turn give him back the same.
Fate finds a way even if you aren't accepting of her methods and aren't looking for a mate.
Coming to the realization that the love that you've held for so long in your heart is not really true love.
Protecting the Alpha mate who is now a political pawn, political intrigue, discovering you have a fated mate, rejected by a live-in boyfriend, finding out the hard way that you're expendable when you thought you were a valued asset, nothing is as it seems, nothing is ever easy

4.5/5 I’ve been waiting since book 1 for Bryce to find his mate. Especially once he gives Tristan a hard time about Colby, I was all ready for him to get his just deserts. I wasn’t expecting quite so much of an emotional rollercoaster, and it tugged at my heartstrings so much!
The slow burn between Tom and Bryce was perfect. I loved the flirting, the second glances, and the way they slowly got to know and trust one another. Both of them are such loyal and upright people (though they don’t express it in quite the same way).
The underlying threat to Jesse and the messy politics underpinned everything, and I enjoyed seeing the pack rally to protect their own just like they always do. Tom and Bryce do some dumb things, of course. (I have *feelings* but don’t want to spoil anything.) It was so very satisfying to see them get their HEA and figure out how to be together.

I'm not sure how I want to rate this one. I *really* liked Tom's character, but I've never been as disappointed in a well-established series character as I was with Bryce. Just... UGH. I can't hate the book because, as I said, Tom 😍 - but also because the ongoing series plot and excellent worldbuilding are keeping me hooked as I binge my way through the books - but and the way that was just glossed over and accepted so quickly as the author gave them what I'd call an entirely unearned HEA really took something out of the story for me. So... 3.5 stars, I guess 🫤

what I really love in this series
is that each pack member gets his own story and each story is unique
I was a bit disappointed in Bryce in the middle of the story but he redeemed himself

More Twists
There is even more going on in this story of the series. There are more twists and turns in the political agendas in addition to the developing connections between Bryce and Tom. A connection that Bryce tries very hard to deny. It all made for another interesting read.

Shifter politics and more fated mates
I was not happy with Bryce in Red Moon Rising because of his attitude towards Colby and his problem with Tristan and Colby being mates. I understood it was just him being a papa bear but he hurt Tristan and riled me up. Here, he didn't behave very well when it really mattered, stupid boy, and wound me up again. He came to his senses and manned up, but it was touch and go whether he deserved a cuff round the head.
Tom was a very sympathetic character and I warmed to him from the beginning. A representative of the Shifter National Council on a recce to the Pack, checking out everything in advance of a visit from several Councilors, Tom was open, honest and intelligent. Bryce and Tom felt an instant attraction and drew close quickly.
The ongoing story arc regarding Jesse and everything to do with him being an Argent took centre stage this time. After the last book and what they'd discovered, the Pack didn't know who to trust, and the Council held its own secrets. The action centred around Bryce and Tom, and the meeting with the Council too.
I liked the dual threads of the romance and the action, and ornery Jesse and exuberant Tristan made me laugh again. Tom was a sweetheart and I'm glad he found his HEA.
Karl still remains the one who catches my attention and a couple of lines in this book whetted my appetite even more.

After it’s verified that an Argent lives at the Elk Ridge pack, Tom Barrington is sent there by one of the council members to smooth the way for the upcoming council meeting. There he meets Bryce, the pack’s beta. Where Tom is polished and professional, Bryce is flirty and charming. It isn’t long before their work relationship turns into more and after a few hot bouts of sex, they discover they’re mates. Unfortunately, Bryce doesn’t do relationships and he sure doesn’t want to be tied down with a mate, which breaks Tom’s heart. But Tom still has a job to do and when Matt tells Tom of what happened to Cale’s pack it unknowingly puts him in a dangerous situation that proves deadly.
Okay, I’m going to admit it. Up until now, Bryce wasn’t exactly my favorite character. I just found his sluttiness and flirting a little off-putting even though he’s the heart of the Elk Ridge pack. He’s easy going and likeable but I just never felt a connection with him in the previous books. This book, however, changed that opinion. Even though he’s sworn never to have a mate, he’s depressed that all his pack members are pairing up and feels lonely. I felt bad for him because he kept associating the word ‘mate’ with blind love. Yes, this book is insta-love but, IMO, you can have a mate and not actually love them.
When Bryce meets Tom, he’s immediately attracted to not only Tom’s body but his intelligence and confidence. Unfortunately, that confidence is only skin deep after Tom recently broke up with his ex and learned that he’s boring and pretty much a waste of space. Still, I loved that Tom had a mix of strength and vulnerability. He falls for Bryce’s charms and sex appeal but when it came down to putting up with Bryce’s behavior or walking away, he chose his dignity over begging for attention from a mate that didn’t want him and I LOVED that.
As with the other books in this series, my biggest issue was that there was a little too much smut for my tastes. A completely personal preference and even with that I still enjoyed the story. Beyond that, there were a few questions that were never answered. They were thought about and I guess, depending on your perception, the answers would be ‘implied’ but I found I didn’t exactly feel as satisfied with some implied answers such as who actually ordered the massacre of Jesse’s old pack.
In the end, I still really enjoyed this one. I’m adoring this series and I love that each member is getting their own story. With each book, more of the problems about how to handle the Argent situation is addressed and I’m really liking the way this arc is unfolding. I can’t wait to read what’s next!

REVIEW: I absolutely love the Strength of the Pack series by Joy Lynn Fielding. Shifting Sands is book four and my interest in this world and its characters is still going strong. Ms. Fielding has mastered the art of enticing the reader and stringing them along until they just cannot help but want more.
I have been waiting for Bryce’s story for a while. He has been the one character that has intrigued me the most. While every one of the characters has a past, Bryce’s situation has not been as obvious. The rest of the shifters are brooding or quiet or easy to anger. Bryce on the other had appears to be the carefree playboy beta wolf. Each book so far has hinted that there is more to his story and after reading Shifting Sands, I was not disappointed. His tale is full of self discovery and angst. I finally got a glimpse into his past and what motivated him to only want meaningless sex. Knowing his struggles made his HEA that much sweeter.
I really liked that Ms. Fielding presented the idea of fated mates a little differently that I am used to. Yes, mates are destined to be together, but the MCs didn’t instantly recognize or accept their mated status. Bryce fought hard against giving in to some higher power that deemed he and Tom were meant to be together. He wanted nothing more than for their love to be based on true desire rather than something in their genes. It was refreshing to see a shifter tale that did not involve instant love. Yes, the mate status helped the love along, but the MCs wanted more. I really liked that Ms. Fielding broke away from the mainstream shifter mentality of simple acceptance of destiny no matter what and didn’t rush into a HEA. The men had to work for it a bit.
Shifting Sands easily picked up exactly where the previous book left off. From the very first page, the argent story line is in full swing without missing a beat. Ms. Fielding effortlessly stays true to the previous plot elements and character personas, making sure all her details are accurate from one title to the next. It really makes for easy reading when I don’t have to go back and retrace my steps to understand what is happening. I loved that the plot keeps moving forward. Shifting Sands answered many questions left from previous books and left me wondering what will happen next? Who will be the next shifter to find his HEA? Is the struggle to control the Argent over or will someone else take the bait and try to use the argent to further his/her attempts to control power?
This is my second review of Ms. Fielding’s Strength of the Pack series and I still have only good things to say. Her world is very well developed and well executed. She captured me from book one and I cannot wait for what will happen next. I recommend this for all shifter fans.

REVIEW: I absolutely love the Strength of the Pack series by Joy Lynn Fielding. Shifting Sands is book four and my interest in this world and its characters is still going strong. Ms. Fielding has mastered the art of enticing the reader and stringing them along until they just cannot help but want more.

Though I've not read the previous books in this series it was easy to become immersed in this story as the characters are engaging and the action scenes fast-paced and heart-pounding. The Elk Ridge pack is in danger with a mystical Argent shifter among them and doing everything they can to stay safe....even if that means inviting the enemy into their safe haven. It's not only a mystery on a political level but a mystery of the heart for pack beta Bryce and the kindhearted political aide Tom who's reeling from being dumped for being boring. Theirs is a battle to put past hurts behind them, and stay one step ahead of those sent to kill them for the secrets they know, in order to reach their HEA.
Tom is a truly good guy in the cesspool of Washington. He believes the best of everyone until it's too late in his work life and love life. He's then left with not only a broken heart but a target on his back that only Bryce can save him from. Tom is immediately drawn to Bryce's carefree nature and after being called boring by his ex he's ready to jump at the opportunity for fun Bryce offers him. Their casual relationship soon becomes something more that he's willing to embrace wholeheartedly but Bryce balks which puts their HEA in doubt. It's not until Tom's life is in danger that Bryce realizes how lucky he is by what fate gave him, but by then it might be too late.
Bryce is the fun-loving one of the pack, the one that keeps them whole. He enjoys his casual hook-ups and doesn't want anything more, but fate has other plans. He's still has feelings for his best friend, and pack leader, as he was his first and their connection is still as strong though he's moved on to another. Bryce doesn't think he's capable of loving someone else but finds himself consumed by thoughts of Tom that have him putting his life on the line to save what he's thrown away.
Bryce and Tom are cute together with their lingering glances and playful interactions. Sexual tension constantly surrounds them from the moment they meet which leads to some very steamy and sensual scenes. Though their love seems to evolve quickly it felt believable as their connection is richly depicted. The connection between them is fun and heartwarming and seeing the other members of the pack make for an even more endearing read as they're each protective of the other and don't hesitate to bring Tom into their fold. Though the importance of the Argent isn't quite clear and many of the pack are still a mystery this was still an entertaining read. This book can be read on its own but the connections between the pack members will be much clearer, and the overall storyline more rewarding, if the other installments are read first. Fans of the paranormal, and steamy man-lovin', will find this a satisfying read that leaves you wanting to know what comes next.

I’ve really enjoyed reading the Strength of the Pack books, and Bryce and Tom's story is another wonderful addition to the series.
Shifting Sands is very emotionally charged; loaded with suspense, sensuality, some humour and camaraderie, as well as a perfect HEA. The characters are well established and the dialogue between them flows so beautifully.
This time, Tom takes our focus. He is a successful aid to the most powerful person in the National Council of Shapeshifters. On the surface, Tom seems nearly perfect; he’s well dressed, eloquent, and thoughtful. But deep down, he’s haunted by a failed relationship. His story really touched my heart. I was in tears at one stage when Tom heard something he was not meant to hear.
Those who’ve been reading along with this series know Bryce has been strong, playful, and protective. Being shown his issues was a surprise to me, as he, like Tom, always seemed put-together; this other side of Bryce that made me sad for him and Tom.
But never fear, friends, because the Ms Fielding does not leave readers devastated; she concludes their story so beautifully. I am really hoping this is not the end of the series. [Note: It seems there is a fifth book scheduled for release in mid-July.]

I was pleasantly surprised by Shifting Sands. I have never read this author before but find that most Siren novels are fun, fluffy, and filled with lots of hot sex, sometimes more sex than plot. While I truly like those types of books, it is also nice to read something with a little more substance.
I liked that in this story we have fated mates, but what differs is that it isn’t an instant “OMG what’s that smell? MINE” type of recognition. The realization is more subtle, and I appreciated that. It gave Tom and Bryce, our MCs, time to be attracted and get to know and like each other before being mates became an issue. And boy, does it become an issue!
I really adored both characters; they were stand up, good guys, hot, sexy and equally matched. The sex was steamy but not overpowering. The conflict between them didn’t feel contrived, though it wasn’t totally apparent as to why it happened at the time, it was cleared up satisfactorily in the end.
However, while Shifting Sands is book 4 in the series, I was told it could be read as a stand-alone. I would not recommend it. There are things missing about the back story and secondary characters that I feel would have made it a much more enjoyable read if I had known or understood them better. That being said, I was able to put enough together to get the plot surrounding the romance and was able to really enjoy it. It had intrigue and action and a “big screen” feel to some of the chapters that kept me interested.
Having read this book, I want to go back and read the first three to find out what I missed, and read the next in the series to see how it plays out. Always a good sign!

Shifting Sands is the forth book in the Strength of the Pack series by author Joy Lynn Fielding. This book is not a stand alone. It heavily relies on the previous books. I liked this one for many reasons. One being the pack politics we are really getting to see how the pack order works and who answers to who. I like that we are getting to know different packs too. The main love story between Tom and Bryce is the focus but I liked the secondary stories as well.
Bryce is the beta of the pack. He is used to protecting the pack from everyone and everything. So when the council starts bringing people in to poke around, of course he is protective. I liked his nature he is not so protective that he is unlikeable. He has a heart and it shines through in all he does.
Tom I think he goes through the most changes in this book. He is more laid back. He doesn’t want to judge anything too soon. Slow and cautious though gets thrown out the window when dealing with Bryce. Sometimes mixing business with pleasure is a lot of fun.
Over all this is a must read in the Strength of the Pack series. Lots of changes for the pack are coming and this book does a great job of paving the way for them. There is a ton of great story inside the pages of this love story. I liked that the most. Really is a series I can sink into and enjoy.

Intrigue, action, sex, a bit of romance...
The biggest glitch for me was when Bryce went to save Tom..seems like Tom did most of the saving AND he overpowered Bryce. For being a beta even without training I still feel like he should have a better grip on a fighting stance.
As for closing some loose ends... interesting.. even if from the beginning it didn't seem like a mystery to me. Getting a peak into Karl's background a little more was cool. Can't wait to see him in action and who claims his attention.
Oh that reminded me... Why didn't Tom or Bryce know they were mates sooner? Like, I'd have to go back and research the other books but wasn't smell part of it? Otherwise how are you supposed to know for sure if someone actually IS your mate??

The Pack decides to go public with the news of an alive Argent. They will get a visit from all the hot shot shifters in Washington. Tom goes to the Pack to see if everything is in order for the meeting. Than he meets Bryce. His mate. Who does not want him as a mate. Bryce just wants fuck. Tom gets hurt because of this. In the end they work it out though. There is more excitement going on in this book, because of the political intrigue. We get to find out who killed the enemy Pack from the previous book. And it is quite refreshing to read about a Pack where not everybody likes each other and everything is covered in Disney-sweetness sprinkled with rainbows. Bryce still has difficulties with Colby and Tristan mating.

Well, color me surprised... I've enjoyed all the books in this series so far. The insta-love sometimes grates but, hell, it's a shifter series so I can't really complain, especially when it's written so well. Will definitely be waiting impatiently for book 5.
