Seven years ago, Jesse Kovac sent the text that ended everything. One cowardly message that made the love of his life sound like nothing more than a college hookup.
Now, a midseason trade has put Jesse on the same NHL team as Garrett Sullivan—the man he's never stopped loving, and the one person who has every right to hate him.
Garrett's spent seven years trying to forget Jesse. He's built a career, a reputation, a carefully crafted life. But the moment Jesse walks into that locker room, all those walls come crashing down. Because the chemistry that made them magic on the ice in college? It's still there. Undeniable. Incendiary. Impossible to ignore.
What starts as "just physical" becomes something neither of them can control. Late-night hookups turn into morning coffee. Stolen glances become heated touches. And pretending they don't care becomes the biggest lie they've ever told.
But Jesse's still terrified of what loving Garrett means for his career. And Garrett's done being someone's secret.
One of them broke it. Both of them have to fix it. And falling in love is the easy part—being brave enough to keep it might cost them everything.
A second-chance MM sports romance featuring professional hockey players, friends-with-benefits that fools absolutely no one, and enough steam to melt the ice. Featuring on-page heat, emotional angst, a supportive found family, and a hard-won HEA.
Low angst despite the second chance romance of it all, Jesse and Garrett's tale is one of easy forgiveness and an abiding love. If you prefer fewer descriptors in your lgbtq+ sex scenes, the spice was kept "behind closed doors", even as we readers sat quietly waiting elsewhere and, I, at least, was hoping for a window to see a bit more of the naked stuff lol, 😂. Secondary characters were only briefly mentioned, but, those that were, were considerate, and accepting, and supported the love between their incredible teammates. I can't imagine how hard it would be to be uncertain about which of the people in your life would support your truth. Or how dark and deep the closet would feel when you can't find your way out. I'm grateful for these novels for reaching new readers and, with luck, helping them to see that love IS, in fact, love. And finding your person; building a life, a family, a future, looks just the same as it does for any other couple. A love story is a love story, no matter the details, and this one is a quick, refreshing read.
It was low angst and semi slow burn. Too short to actually be a slow burn. The timeline at the end doesn’t make sense much on the hockey side. 6 months later would mean it was happening at the beginning of the season not the end. So a bit confusing there. Overall easy read low angst.
Great story but I would love it if this author revisited it, made it far more descriptive and doubled the length of it. Why don’t we find out how the season ended she a start?
